  1. So, with the right players, a coach can have success. And in other news, rain is wet.

  2. If Scott Milanovich gets fired in Toronto and they offer O'Shea the job, but he chooses to stay in Winnipeg because he wants to be here and because Kyle Walters wants him here, would J5V's head explode?

  3. He is a passionate man...pretty cool to see. That guy wants to bring a GC to Winnipeg so badly...it's awesome.

Okay we get it, you're not an O'Shea fan. This is when discussion reaches the point of uselessness. You've made up your mind and nothing anyone says is going to change it, so what are we even *discussing* at this point?

  6. My final thoughts and what I would like to see from 2016: A fix for CFL reviews An end, to end the DEnd search we've been on A true MLB Edmonton to lose, because, well, they're Edmonton, and because Reilly insists on wearing that stupid hat...in a pre-game presser..in football... I guess Calgary should win it all because they've done the best...but, ....I'm rooting for BC A new DC or a distinct improved vision of how to better use the players we have. New careers for Wiecek, Bender, Friesen and Wazney - constant potshots on the Bombers is getting old and unimaginative. A slicing of overpaid utility players or some cutbacks to suit their roles... ...with subsequent renewals to the up-and-comers... A step-up receiver, and I don't care if he's an import or a National. Loffler - to have a hitting clinic for tackling.. A don't break but don't break defence. Lost in all the hoopla about 'that call' was the great play of the opposing QB -Jonathan Jennings. BC doesn't come close to winning without his above par efforts... QB situation - I'd like Nichols to return, but what I'd really like is another blindside signing ala James Franklin. Hervey may be more inclined to deal with us rather than Jones..so lose Edmonton, lose. The WFC is getting together to access the QB situation, including Bethel-Thompson whom we took a peek at earlier. Fine. Let's get this settled in regards to Bennett, Davis, Glenn, Nichols etc. And finally, O'Shea to shave his beard next year, to better see his smirk.

  8. If O'Shea leaves then Walters will deal with it. Why worry about it? Mike is an adult & he can come & go as he chooses as his contract is expiring in the next few weeks. We know the Bombers want him back so it's not something the Bombers have done to slight him. If he chooses to go elsewhere it's his choice. I fail to see the angst you show about trying to somehow read between some blurred lines. I assume that if The Coach does leave then you'll be very happy. Then you look at a guy like Lawless. He hasn't tweeted a single thing that O'Shea is rumoured to be looking elsewhere or that a team wants him. He'd have heard something. I'd be absolutely shocked if he didn't come back.

You can tell that he thought the question was asinine that is all. He said flat out he trusts his coach and supports him making in game decisions. Walters said straight up he wants oshea back so he obviously believes in the man as head coach

  17. Well i'm a new member! Just signed up after the season. Ya its late but want to find a forum to discuss blue bomber football. i have been a reader for quite some time. It was an exciting time for the Blue Bombers this season after a rough start we became a contender. My thoughts moving forward on/off the field include - we need a new DC - richie hall just isn't what we need right now. - LaPolice might leave for a HC but if he returns that will be big. He really did change for the better since his last stint. - Stadium atmosphere aside from 2 games was terrible. Poor attendance. Whats the deal with this? maybe its time to lower prices. That stadium should be full more times than not including home opener and like at least 3 other games, and labour day rematch. - CFL TV #'s were impressive. - I want the CFL to maintain its stars. Jonathon Jennings is a stud. No doubt. And the CFL needs to do a better job getting these stars noticed around town. The lions are popular in vancouver. yet they lack the starpower say sedins. i would say the lions head coach is more known that the canucks head coach. CFL needs to do a better job overall. we have been saying this for 20 yrs. lol.- - TV deal is not big enough. TSN is underpaying. period. Higher salary cap = better salaries for coachs/players and most of them will stay in the league. Business side of the league needs to improve. - Blue Bombers have finally come around listening to fans with jersey brand. I see heritage jets logo everywhere in the city and the blue bombers royal blue colors can be seen around town. Its great Winnipeg is getting back to its roots. And now we fans need to get these teams over this hurdle they face. All in all. Its been a fun season. Yes. It sucks off-season football is here. Its never fun as the wait is way too long. good thing we have the NHL Jets to keep up busy until spring. well lets hope late spring early summer.

  19. I thought Walters was quite forthright, the only thing I read into his presentation was an open disdain for the media held by many in the sporting community. I would categorize a few of his comments as nothing less than unnecessary cheap shots towards a media that has been quite supportive of his tenure. Kyle's mother should have told him, "if you don't want to be scrutinized, don't sign up to sing Ethel Merman show tunes."

  20. The length of the commitment was based on where your seats were located. Only the prime locations were 5 years. I do know that for ticket group I am in (our seats are upper deck centre ice), the renewal came last year or the year before. I believe the majority of renewals have already come and people either renewed or people from the waiting list stepped in. I think the biggest reason for the Jets selling out like they have was the scarcity of tickets from their initial return and groups splitting season tickets. No way I'm making the time and financial commitment to go to all home games. But with groups of people splitting the tickets, which to my knowledge wasn't as prevalent or never happened in Jets 1.0, it is more affordable for people and those people end up going to more games than if they were buying single seats.

  21. Here are some stats.. Winnipeg's population has grown by 100,000 since 1996. That's quite significant as it's almost the City of Regina. http://www.winnipeg.ca/cao/pdfs/population.pdf

  22. As someone from the "millennial" generation I can testify to the fact that in terms of financial aptitude, my generation is a bunch of idiots. The majority of people in my age bracket don't bat an eyelash at the thought of putting Jets, Bombers or any other "fun" expense on a low interest loan, credit card or whatever other financial instrument they have access to. "Buy now pay later" isn't an advertising gimmick, it's a way of life for some people. As mentioned by others, the Jets are still selling out. I remember when they came back talks of how you had to commit for 3 years of season tickets, I've also heard 5 years, does anyone know how that works? If it is 5 years, one would expect some Jets fans to possibly convert to the Bombers after the 2016-2017 Jets season - since that would be 5 years since the original 2011 signup. I also think at the end of the day, there is only so much disposable income for people, and obviously as of late people have chosen the Jets over the Bombers. Based on the past few years, I can't blame them, but hopefully a few more +.500 seasons and the Bombers will see their attendance bounce back. Final note regarding interest rates - I can't wait until they actually rise again, reward the savers for once!

  24. No he wouldn't, but as it looked to me, he simply wasn't going to respond because the decision was O'Shea's alone to make and Walters' feelings, one way or the other would be irrelevant and he wasn't going to take the bait. In other words, "the stupid question receives the appropriate answer".

  25. I was angry with the FG call as I believe it wasn't the right one. Some people agree & some don't saying that was the only call he could have made. I think had we gone on 3rd & 4 & made it we'd have won that game. That's my opinion for what it's worth. What's done is done. However you don't pile on him or fire him for that unless he had a long list of gaffes that cost us wins. He won 5 more games this year than in 2015 & we got into the semi final. You reward success. You don't punish it. He'll be back if he wants to be back. It'll be his choice.

Does anyone really know if NAFTA & these other international trade deals have made our lives better or worse? I just see jobs going to Mexico or China & the Phiullipines. Meanwhile you can't ship beer from one province to another among other things. I wish we'd take care of our own country first before trying to be wunderkinds on the world stage all the time & have everybody like us.

  27. Jon Stewarts take on things. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jon-stewart-the-daily-show-former-host-election-2016-donald-trump-republicans/ “I thought Donald Trump disqualified himself at numerous points. But there is now this idea that anyone who voted for him is -- has to be defined by the worst of his rhetoric,” Stewart said. “Like, there are guys in my neighborhood that I love, that I respect, that I think have incredible qualities who are not afraid of Mexicans, and not afraid of Muslims, and not afraid of blacks. They’re afraid of their insurance premiums. In the liberal community, you hate this idea of creating people as a monolith. Don’t look as Muslims as a monolith. They are the individuals and it would be ignorance. But everybody who voted for Trump is a monolith, is a racist. That hypocrisy is also real in our country.” Again, the people who voted Trump in are not all Rednecks, or terrible people or any one thing. They are 60 million people who voted for Trump for good and bad reasons. If the left continues to denigrate 60 million people without learning why they voted the way they did, the US will get the full 8 years of Trump. Just like Canada is going to get multiple terms of Trudeau.

  33. we had several chances to win the game out right on plays. 2 floated deep passes that should have been tds but the wr had to stop and come back, 1 which led to a fg. More times then can be counted where the D had a chance to make a tackle and prevent a long @$$ run that wouldve swung the tide. Especially the late first half score for bc. With out that, we have all the momentum going in the 2nd. we could have nailed that Fg to end the game, it was like 2-3 yards off medlocks longest of the year. Our adjustments at the half were solid, the play calling was on par with the rest of the year, better on offense. The D could have adjusted much better in the first half to not give up a stupid amount of Yards on the ground, but over all we were out executed. Not out coached. For the whole game, id say we still out played bc over all.

  34. In the video, do the Bombers go for it on third and four? I've come to the conclusion that our players are just as good as the Lions. Not surprising, given the relative experience, but I think we were probably outcoached by Wally and friends.

  39. J5V, I've been reading your posts about Mike O'Shea. The simple truth of the matter is that you just don't fire a head coach who took a team from 6-12 to 11-7 in a single season & the WDSF then toss him. It just isn't done. The Bombers organization would look like a Ship Of Fools if they did that. Certainly it'd be sending out a lot of negative vibes to all the other coaches in the CFL about the state of the team, the people who run it & the kind of business they'd be doing. It would make no sense. Who'd want to come here knowing that being 2 games over .500 & making the playoffs isn't good enough to keep their job? O'Shea deserves a new contract. The guy's earned it. Other than Marc Trestman who would you want as head coach? Start naming names instead of using vague terms like, "Bring in an experienced coach". Who? Experience doesn't mean anything. Don Matthews went 0-9 in Toronto when he was given the Argos HC job in the middle of the season. George Cortez was a very good OC & turned out to be a very bad head coach. Both had plenty of experience but it didn't matter. Matthews is the second winningest head coach in the CFL all time with over 200 wins behind Wally Buono. The Bombers won't fire O'Shea & they'd be crazy to do it. He deserves to be here.

  40. One of these days JV5, you're just going to have to let it go..about the FG thing. How about today? Here's what an anonymous Coach or GM said..."I would've had my offence go for it, but that being said I wouldn't have been surprised if (Justin) Medlock made it. All the fans and media criticizing the decision to kick it would be saying he should have kicked it with the best kicker in the league if they went for it and didn't convert." I didn't agree with the call either, but I've accepted it. It's a HC's decision. A tough one, whether you accept it or not. Every coach has his thought process. O'Shea followed his. He trotted out his best player. And that 57 yard thing? I wonder about that. Would you be less upset if we didn't win because they threw a short pass..and it failed? Or a pass over the middle, and it was deflected? I've read a dozen different suggestions on what O'Shea should have done. For better results? Who knows. Its the thought that we failed that haunts everybody...and there's no more season for us. It pisses me off to no extent. But that's where we are. But I got to go now...to the bathroom.
