No it was NOT. This is WRONG and people need to stop saying it. Since the NFL instituted modified overtime rules, there have been 73 overtime games, including postseason and Monday Night Football. Three have been ties. In the other 70, the team that receives the ball first has won 38 of those, or 54.2 percent. (stats accurate as of Dec 29, 2015) Only in NARNIA is a 54.2 percent chance an automatic win. So you need to go back to NARNIA with all the other dreamers who do not understand PROBABILITY!! THREAD OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!5 points

What about the number of great catches by both teams that highlighted what football can be all about? Notably, the sideline catch by Julio Jones and the "keep your eye on the ball" laid out catch by Julian Edelman. "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard"4 points -

More than a decade ago after another Bomber pounding, my son looked me in the eye and said "Dad, you got to get a new team" (he saw how depressed I was getting over the Bombers performance). So I picked the Patriots and I have been rewarded ever since. They have a most unusual way of aquiring new players ( they go after talent and raw potential not nationally rated scouting reports), they avoid big salaries even for the best of players, and they have all-for-one and one-for-all sense of team. I don't see pride, smugness or arrogance there at all (relatively speaking). Brady who wasn't even a starting QB in college has proved himself to be the best QB of all time. Belichick has proven himself the best strategist and coach perhaps of all time. Thats proof not claim or brag. When the commissioner of football decided to go after Brady and the team (maybe he thought they were smug) they handled the affair with dignity and humility, "like a man". So I could not have been more delighted with their victory in the Super Bowl. They have built a dynasty by doing so many of the right things. Aside from Brady they have no individual stars. They just work at geting better and keep replacing fallen players like Gronk. They are a team like I have never seen before.4 points -

NFL has the best format. It's actual football. I don't get how Canadians dislike it. Are people bellyaching that the losing team in a sudden death hockey OT didn't get another shot on goal to try to score? Pretty similar. Two teams on the field playing ball. Stop them from scoring a TD and your offence gets a shot to.3 points -

The damage was done in the first half for the Falcons D. Even though they were down a pile the Pats had the ball for 20 minutes. By the time 4th quarter came around they were gassed. It ended up being 40 min to 23 min by the end of the game.3 points -

I said to a friend who is a huge Falcons fan: If they're playing anyone else in the league aside from Brady and Belichek, the Falcons win that game. I don't know what dark ritual Belichek performs every year, but the Old Gods love that man with a slavering sort of obedience Faust would envy. I'm not a huge NFL fan (love me the Packers, but after that, I'm pretty meh), but this was the best superbowl I've ever seen. I don't like their OT format, but it is what it is. Seeing Brady win his 5th ring is something I'm glad to have witnessed.3 points -

It's not the flip of the coin, it's letting NE score a TD on their first set of downs that cost Atlanta the game. Well that and some dumb play calling that resulted in a penalty and a sack that took them out of FG range. Still it was a Super Bowl for the ages and I thought it was over at the half.3 points -

What a stinking overtime format the so called best football league in the world has. Because of a flip of a coin, and the dumb format, Atlanta doesn't even get a chance to answer. It truly downplays how well Atlanta had played...and to not get a chance - bush.3 points -
I liked Maurice's quote about how he'll know when his team has turned the corner... 'its consistency in their play'... so what does that mean...? If his 2001-02 Hurricanes were in the west, his Stanley Cup final team wouldn't have made the playoffs... if his Division wasn't garbage, he would have squeaked into a wildcard spot. His career coaching record is .503 and career win % is .472 He had Vezina winning Cam Ward in 2010-11 and finished with a .555 coaching record. Before the 2014 Jets, his teams had never finished higher than 91 points... He's actually never coached a team that has turned the corner... yet he keeps getting chances... ... Fluery and Bishop have NMC / NTC so it is very unlikely they would agree to come to a non playoff team. Plus Bishop is a UFA after this year, so why trade for him even if you could? Halak has one year after this year with a 4.5M cap hit. He might be an interesting veteran goalie to have behind Hellebuyck, but I'm not sure I'd give up a whole lot for him prior to the expansion draft. Vegas has to draft at least 3 goalies from the expansion draft, and pickings out there will be slim.2 points

Plus the fact that arrogant Kyle Shannahan went away from the running game once they had a big lead. The play call that led to Ryan's sack/fumble was curious to say the least. If you're going to pass, short quick routes would have been far safer. Leaving him in the pocket for an extended period of time (with the Pats clearly blitzing because they trailed), was just dumb.2 points -

The new chat is up and running. It is called Babble and you can find the link to it up on the site header. With CFL Free Agency less than 10 days away, it will be an opportunity to try it out with a larger number of people in the room at the same time. The old chat is still around for now if anything goes wrong during free agency. It looks an awful lot like the old chat when you get in, but it is quite different under the hood. The primary difference being is I now host it, and although I have been assured it should handle the number of people we put in there, you just never really know until you try. Some other commands / new features you will see in there: Ignore -> I think this will probably be the most popular new feature, as it has been requested quite a bit .. but you can now put people on ignore in chat. This is a different list then the ignore list in the forum, so you need to put people on ignore in chat separately. Just click someones picture on the right hand side and pick ignore Editing -> If you click on your own posts you can now edit them (click on your name beside the post you want to edit). A little pencil will show up beside it to indicate you've edited it. Quotes -> Click on someone else's chat and you can quote it to respond to it just like you can when posting. Whispers -> You can have private conversations with other people. If you whisper someone their name will show up in the top bar of the chat box and you can click back and forth between your private conversations and main chat. Pictures -> There is little downarrow on the toolbar on top of the text area where you type your chat. You can pick the picture button here. Pictures will be hidden in a "spoiler" type wrapper so people can't spam chat with them. People need to click to open them. You can also use the buttons here to paste links and use quote boxes. For people who prefer typing to clicking icons, here are some text based commands. All text based commands start with a /. The / indicates to the chat program that it is a command and not text for chat /rules -> Will display the rules of the chat. This will display to you only, not everyone in the chat. Usage: /rules /me -> Shows an action or an emote in chat. Usage: /me is taking a break to get a beer /stats -> Displays the stats for the rooms. Usage: /stats /ignore -> Allows you to ignore another member. Usage: /ignore <Member Name> /unignore -> Allows you to remove a member from your ignore list. Usage: /uningnore <Member Name> /quote -> Will display text you type in a quote box, just like you can when posting. Usage: /quote This text will be in quotes. /img -> Will display an image in a wrapper. Usage: /img <URL to image> There are two buttons on the far right on the blue bar of the chat window: Settings -> Allows you to decide what events you see notifications for. (People entering / leaving the room, etc) You can decide how many new chat messages are required for your browser to notify you, and you can decide if new messages show up at the bottom of chat or top of chat (Reverse Order or Message Order) Open in Pop Out -> Will allow you to "pop out" the chat into its own window.1 point

I'm not going to argue this because I have zero emotional investment it the rules of the NFL, but if you think the normal play of hockey is the same as sports where teams take turns playing offence and defence as defined by the rules of the game then you are being deliberately obtuse. You don't like the CFL overtime format because there's no kickoffs or punts? Fine. They both suck for different reasons.1 point

It usually plays a part but in this case, that is misguided. If it were true then we'd see the same thing in all major sports but MLB, NHL, and NBA can all go on into eternity during the playoffs so there's no reason why the NFL couldn't be the same. Football is not like other sports, that's why they can only play once a week.1 point

Depends what the question really is here... the BiPole III project consists of many different smaller projects. Is a third line needed? Absolutely, yes. Bipole I and II are right next to each other so it's not unlikely that both could be brought down by one disaster... and that's basically all the power to Manitoba, gone, until they can fix whatever the issue is. Outside consultants hired to review the BP3 project commented that they've never seen a setup like this, where one event could potentially knock out power for 95% of the population. And depending on the event we could be talking weeks, months without power. Should it have been built on the west side? Unequivocally, no. This was a huge blunder forced on Manitoba Hydro by Gary Doer, Greg Selinger, and the NDP. With basically no logical or scientific reasons for doing so. Is the Keeyask generating station needed? Yes. What most people don't realize is that most stations in Manitoba were built around the same time period... and they're getting old. These things need maintenance... in some cases more than others. Some may need to be decommissioned. In short, you can't necessarily assume that the power we're generating now will always be available. Could Keeyask have been designed to be much smaller and cheaper? Sure. It didn't have to be built on such a grand scale but it would be disastrous financially to stop now. You can't just leave a half finished station up there doing nothing. Furthermore, you need to stay ahead of power demands. Demand is fairly close to supply at the moment (relatively). You can't just build a new station/line when power is required. This requires lead times in terms of years. Don't forget this is all based on waterflow as well. If Manitoba faces a multi-year drought, power generation goes down with it. Of course now you should understand that since power generation needs to stay ahead of consumption, there will always be a surplus of power generated. Naturally, this is sold to the U.S. and Ontario. What else would they do with it? The price depends on several factors. If the U.S. agrees to buy a certain amount of power for a certain amount of time, they get a discount because that's guaranteed money coming into Hydro. If it is "just-in-time" sales, the price isn't far from what would be paid by ratepayers here (in some cases the US pays more). And of course, Manitoba still has some of the lowest rates in North America, with the highest reliability, and the highest percentage of clean, renewable energy consumption in Canada. TL;DR? BiPole 3 was needed but the design and implementation were flawed from the start.1 point
