  2. you know that Hurl signed a new deal and likely isn't getting that same premium anymore right?

  3. So before the current drug policy was introduced people were bitching and complaining about the lack of one and now when someone is penalized under it people are bitching and complaining about it. SMH And no, it doesn't surprise me.

  6. “It’s a wonderful turn of events and pretty good fortune to go from being released to now signing with the team that I’ve wanted to play for since I started playing football,” began Miles in an interview with bluebombers.com. “I was a little later in getting into the game and as soon as I gave up the dream of playing in the NHL, the Bombers and playing in the CFL became my goal. My entire family has Bomber season tickets and my grandma held them for over 40-50 years before she passed away five years ago. The rest of the family has tickets but they are up in the nosebleeds. They may be looking at upgrades now.” “So I can say Bomber blood runs in our family. It’s perfect, really, to be coming home.” http://www.bluebombers.com/2017/03/04/thomas-miles-back-home/

  7. Length of a contract when the player can be cut at any time doesn't mean that much. If his play goes down, you cut him. If his play remains stable you keep him. If he gets better, you extend him with more money.

  11. I think it's good they finally have a drug policy but disagree on how it's being implemented. Funny how nuance works. Eyes wide open, teams should still be able to draft Simonise but he shouldn't be able to play until a four game suspension has been served. EDIT: I'm not sure how a four game NFL suspension equates to an 18-game plus playoffs in the CFL?

  14. The Miles signing means more homegrown Canadian talent. He won't make any big splashes in terms of a typical "big" free agency signing...but every team needs a core of dependable, hard-nosed players willing to run through walls for their team. I really like the methodology we're currently using for upgrading our roster this year.

  19. Saturday stuff... Kyle Walters, #Bombers GM, on Mike Miller: “He’s our kind of guy; hard-nosed, tough kid." CFL Headlines Riders add former top rookie NFL receiver Mike Williams to neg list. .Just what they need, right? http://3downnation.com/2017/03/03/riders-add-former-top-rookie-nfl-receiver-mike-williams-neg-list/? http://yegboneyard.blogspot.ca/2017/03/edmonton-eskimos-mining-for-diamonds.html Of note - Paul Jones, executive director of player personnel, is in his 18th year with the Edmonton Eskimos. He has a strong track-record of finding high quality players south of the border. His methods have led to the Esks signing players such as Elfrid Payton, Shannon Garrett, Aaron Grymes, John Ojo, Jason Tucker, Dexter McCoil, Ed Hervey, Derel Walker and Fred Stamps to name a few. Jones has continued with his success by rebuilding a scouting network in 2014 that includes former Eskies Torey Hunter and Malvin Hunter along with Jeff Hoffman and Mitch Matuska. Hunter had recommended J.C. Sherritt, Aaron Grymes and Matt Nichols to the Esks, during his coaching career in the pacific northwest, prior becoming an official Esks scout. It was also Hunter who recommended the Esks attempt to acquire Mike Reilly making him a trusted eye for secondary talent and quarterbacks a like. Matuska was responsible for scouting the likes Brandon Zylstra and James Franklin. The latter coming recommended by Mizzou teammate Kendail Lawerence before being placed on the Eskies negotiation list based on Matuska’s recommendation. And the Bombers once employed him... Who's talking about top three pick... That's basically locked down by Vegas, Coyotes and Avs. Top 8 is fine with me. Accidentally winning the draft lottery and being 'stuck' with Nolan Patrick or Hischier is not actually a bad thing either. Drafting 14th and picking the last 'best' defenceman available... that's not so good.

I'm hoping the problem of keeping his cat off his keyboard while posting is moving up the list. There are about 4 people here who think the Riders signing whatshisface - the QB who was on our PR last season - is a huge issue that must be addressed. For some reason ignoring that if the Bombers wanted to, they could have offered him a real contract at any point in time. They could have given him a two year deal and hid him on the 1 game IR all year if they wanted to. And changing the date these players become free agents by two months does...I don't know what in his mind. Apparently letting them come to practise and eat at the buffet afterwards is an investment we can't afford to just let walk out the door, and we're doing a crazy amount of development with them from Dec 1 to Feb 14?? We have re-signed a few players who finished the year on the PR, so the Bombers obviously are able to get around this massive problem somehow.

Players on the practise roster are often treated as disposable and make only $750 per week in a sport that already doesn't have guaranteed contracts for the best players, but you think it's necessary to block their opportunity to try and get a job with another team while they are getting paid nothing for that privilege?

  29. Dumb dumb rule on the doping and draft. Players should stand in the draft with a penalty determined by the league. They could even just enforce the NFL suspension.

  38. Simpson shed a few pounds later in his career as he didn't have the speed he used to. He got there quicker but usually got dragged for extra yards. Most CFL MLB are between 225 - 245 with Bear Woods being at the top of that scale.

    Mystery Miller

Further to what Rich said, Miller is very customer-focused, and he is instilling that culture throughout the Bomber office. I received 3 calls directly from the Bomber office this season as a season-ticket holder. Two of the calls were initiated by the Bombers, one from Miller directly, asking about the quality of my game-day experiences and asking for feedback. The third was because I had complained to a staff member about not being able to see the game feed while in line for concessions (the screen facing our line was showing the twitter feed). The staff member had noted my seat number and I got a call back the next week. In almost 20 years as a season ticket holder, I have had exactly 0 calls prior to this past season from any of the previous regimes.
