Ah, the annual 'our short yardage QB is the best in the league' thread...  then he'll be replace in a year or two with another great short yardage QB...

LeFevour is 30 and a proven backup who, unlike Nichols when we signed him, has never proven he can lead a winning team...  team won't even blink if he's not here

yea I don't think you fully grasp how good it is to have a QB like LeFevour tho.   we used to get stuffed on 3rd and 1 and goal line stuff on the regular.   hasn't happened that I can recall since Lefevour and the o-line resurgence.

I get it, its a "jobber" position but one that is still very important.. especially to a squad like ours that nichols and dimes our way down the field..

First of all... 'nichols and dimes'... seriously?

Second of all, I'd much rather see Davis running short yardage and getting field experience instead of getting ZERO reps...  I like that he's here, but if we're developing him, he needs game time.

Anyone is delusional to think LeFevour is not the real backup - at least he's been on the field this year

So we have a guy who is excellent at short yardage, best in the league by far, but he needs to be replaced by someone who probably isn't as good at it, because "development"?

And anyone who thinks that the guy who comes in to play the rest of the game if Nichols gets injured is the backup, rather than the guy who comes in for short yardage downs, is "delusional"?

Hmm, when I write it out like that, it just doesn't sound like something I'd vote for in the next election.

that pun.. with all the other ridiculousness that goes on here, is the one that bugs you? lol.

Davis may not be very good at the short yardage stuff and we also don't want to risk our backup on said plays, higher risk of injury from those smash mouth plays.    you aint really developing in those spots unless you are developing to become a 3rd string, short yardage specialist.

The game time Davis needs is actual reps running the complete offense, which only happens in the event the Bombers are up significantly over an opponent.

What would be accomplished with regard to his development by running short yardage plays? Reps in the jumbo package on 3rd & inches help that along how...?

Just game time, being comfortable reading a D (even if its short yardage) and just getting used to the speed of the game... assuming that once in a while, he's not just surging forward

All I know is Lefevour went to the Argos and within the first month of joining the team he put up 300 yards in his first game and nearly the same in the 2nd against the Blue...  with 4 td passes.

The guy may not be a world beater but he's light years better then the crap like Boltus, Brohm ,   Brink,  and Goltz.....

On the heels of the Chambers trade, news today that Mike Jones is suspended for 2 games cuz drugs n stuff.

So apparently teams get a fair bit of notice on these things, long enough to orchestrate trades to prepare.

Jones was god awful in his last game.... dropped some really really easy passes in the open.

In other words, basically nothing would be accomplished by having Davis run the jumbo package on 3rd & short.

And then he lost his job to Drew Willy...

More than having him watch it from the sidelines...

To be clear, our 'backup' and future starter has run one play (short yardage) on the field in the last two years - he's now 28 years old

I'm glad we're developing a QB but I don't really understand the methodolgy

Nah, not necessarily. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the coaching staff knows what's best for player development.

Me too... its just too bad we've been proven wrong so many times as bomber fans having faith in management's player development strategies...

JUSTIN_GOLTZ_STARTS_-_P_TOR11RB0_640x360

because we have seen it at the QB level with these guys so many times already... oh, wait.

If Nichols goes down on Friday night... I'd have full confidence in LeFevor or Davis to finish the job... if Nichols goes out for any length of time... then my concern level goes way up!

Completely off topic here... but I was at a friend's wedding a few weeks ago... the bride is originally from Tampa, now lives in MB (long story)... so some of her friends from Tampa were at the wedding... I was talking to one girl at some point in the night and I only thing I remember from the conversation is she told me she had a friend that played in the CFL.... when she said James Wilder, I knew she was legit b/c who else would know the 3rd string (at the time) RB for the Argos...

turns out he might be a good one...

Where was the wedding... Miami?

Speaking of redundant sports coverage...

OSh post-bye week interview...

- what do you think about no pads? its fine, not a huge adjustment

- was hall of fame fun? yes.

- Jesse Briggs?  Jesse Briggs is awesome - all of our linebackers are awesome

- Taylor Loffler scratch - good question - that he answered himself while asking it ha...  answer is Derek Jones is awesome

- is Mike Miller awesome?  yes he is.

What's the point anymore...

Edit:  My bad - they did ask about Westerman/Corney and Flanders in the next video edit... still no answers but at least they asked
