The question I have is this:  Is the Fever really that good at short yardage or is it the improved O line making Fever look like he's really good at short yardage?

I think it was both. Our O Line was extremely good coupled with DL actually being good at that particular skill, i.e., having a signature move that was hard to stop  mixed with the ability to call an audible on that move if he saw the need. I do agree though he also needs to be able to QB which he seemed to struggle with last season when he was given the opportunity.

Absolutely....just to be the vet #2 guy......no question. Teach your #3 guy to run sneaks/Wildcat....

Yes, for the short term if Nichols was out with injury  Glenn would be able to play at a high level until Matt came back. Too bad LeFevour can't throw. But I'd give up LeFevour no matter how good he ran short yardage to have a veteran #2 qb who would play well backing up Nichols. Then, as you say, use the #3 position to develop a legit future starter. We need to shake up  both  backup qb positions as we got very little out of them when Matt was hurt. Davis couldn't even keep his backup spot (which says a lot about Davis after 3 years here in Wpg) & LeFevour won the game in Calgary when the Stamps were struggling with Buckley.

With all this talk about Glenn as a quality backup, I have to ask, didn't anyone here actually watch his play last year?  Because I did and I don't think that he offers very much.  His patented quick pass to the corner back for 6 will lose just as many games (if not more) that he'll win.  His days as a quality starter are long over and now, so are his days as a quality backup.

Glenn had his ups & downs but so what? The guy would give us the best chance to win if Nichols went down. He'd never start over Nichols but would be a great insurance policy if Nichols was injured.  Right now, we don't have the guys to win with if Matt was hurt. Same with Darian Durant. If the Als ever released or traded him for a lower draft pick, I'd be happy he'd be here. As a backup to Nichols.

I'd be worried about Glenn running sneaks just 'cause he's approximately 137 years old and brittle as glass...

when was the last time a guy actually got hurt running a sneak? I wouldn't worry about anyone getting hurt doing that. More likely to get hurt standing in the pocket than doing the short yardage stuff.

The best chance?  Again, did you not see him play last year.  He is well past his "best before date" and he is a year farther from that now.  Every single team in the league knows Glenn and knows how to beat him.   I'm not convinced that he would be "the best chance" of anything beyond heart break.  If he was our backup and Nichols went down, we'd be hooped, especially in games that really count.   No thanks.  Let him be Edmonton's "quality backup".

And the alternative is Davis??? No thanks.

So the choices are: A young guy who might get better vs an old guy who will only get worse.   Tough call.   I guess if they keep playing Glenn long enough he'll be able to fend off a pass rusher with his walker.  Even then, there will be people saying "ya, but he has experience."

Or third option: they could always bring in someone else.

We need to turn over the backups, bring in a veteran as #2 & start the process all over again for a developmental qb at #3. The thing about experienced veteran backups no matter who they are is that some fans will always find a reason to complain while others will find a reason to be happy. If we brought in Durant, there'd be fans saying it's a great move & others saying it's a mistake. That's the nature of things, I guess.

I strongly disliked the decision the Bombers made with Davis after Nichols got injured.

Davis came in and was mostly ineffective.  7 out of 12 for 82 yards.  No TDs.  No ints.  He had a few good throws, a few bad throws, and a few terrible drops from his receivers (Dressler and Coates going purely off memory).  He looked hesitant in his reads and didn't trust what he was seeing.  I'd give his performance a D.

Then LeFevour comes in and puts up a F--.  Completely shits the bed.  5 out of 12 for 42 yards, no drops that I can recall, and two ugly interceptions.  There were 3 different points in that game where he deserved to be taken out and have Davis put back in, but the douchey fans who chanted for LeFevour when Davis was in weren't ready to acknowledge they were morons and chant for Davis to get his job back.

Okay, fine.  That was a suspect in-game decision that didn't pay off.  The young QB came off the bench cold and couldn't get any kind of rhythm going, so you went to the vet who has had success improvising and going off-script.  It completely backfired.  Now you have a full week to prepare for the next game.

Instead of giving Davis first team reps in practise, the thing that could have helped him familiarize himself with the both the first team receivers and his reads, they doubled down on the bed-shitter.  Why?  I don't know.  He **** the bed again, thankfully our defence brought a big enough mop and bucket to salvage a win.

Maybe Davis does no better in Calgary than LeFevour.  We'll never know.  But that should have been his make or break opportunity, and it was a terrible decision to not give him that.  Why even bother having him on the roster all season?  Give him one lousy week of starter reps to work with and judge his performance based on that.  Justin Goltz got a significantly better opportunity than Davis.

I don't know if he'll be back this season, but Davis losing his backup job last season to LeFevour based on what both QB's did in the BC game makes about as much sense as Giselle Brady losing a swimsuit modeling cover to me because she has a pimple.

As for LeFevour and QB sneaks, while a QB sneak "should be automatic", it isn't.  LeFevour is the best at it I've ever seen.  He wasn't close to being stopped last year, and on several occasions looked like he could break those into TD runs.  Credit where credit is due, he is fantastic at those.  If we had a NFL size gameday roster, tagging him as a RB and keeping him as a short yardage specialist might be justifiable.  Probably not in the CFL though.
