Saw what a beautiful day it was going to be and took a vacation day. Took in Bomber training camp this morning. Bringing a 2 year old (some might have seen him wanting to get onto the football field) and a 3 week old there, I wasn't able to watch a ton...and let's be honest, we're all there to watch the 1 on 1s. You can definitely see the polish and level that the new guys (Thompkins and Reuben) bring to camp. Guys like Coney and Dye, who may have been the front runners to try to get a spot on the roster (or at least be the "next guy up") didn't impress me too much, and I couldn't see them being there in the end. That said, Myles White is the real deal. Looked uncoverable in the one on ones. He might not have been drawing Randle in coverage, but he was making the guy he was lining up against look silly pretty routinely. Was also lining up to return kicks. He's my pick to make the team. Canadian receivers: Daniel Petermann. What can you say. He is looking like a training camp superstar. Demski wasn't taking too many reps this practice and Petermann made play after play after play. Couple deep balls, some catches in the middle. Super excited about him. Simonise looked real good and even Henry is looking much better this year. Don't know how many reps Wolitarsky had. Pierre was helping with the receivers (off crutches I guess) along with Corey Washington (imp). Overall the receivers are looking darn good. After the receivers, the player that really stood out to me in special teams drills was Jacob Firlotte. He was getting down the field pretty quick and has an intriguing size to him. Dark horse? Quarterbacks...I think they all had their moments. In Skele I think you'd give the edge to Ross for processing the field much quicker than Streveler. Not unexpected. Streveler made some nice throws as well. Mention to Faith Ekakite who took the time to walk over to my 2 year old and give him a fist bump. By the end of practice, my little guy was way overtired but I think he had fun.

It must be preseason. Everyone is already cutting vets to keep the shiny new toys. Love this time of year.

This is a better rule change... CFL coaches won’t be allowed to challenge illegal contact calls this season. The CFL eliminated illegal contact as a challengeable call Wednesday, and the change will be in place when the regular season kicks off next month.

The NFL got rid of the forceout rule a decade ago and they're better off without it IMO. I've never been a fan of the rule. You either land in bounds or you don't. Who's to say that someone would have landed in bounds if they weren't contacted? It's a judgment call and the less of those the better.

Or they're just exploring every option they can and making sure they have the best possible team on the field every week. The day you stop trying to get better is the day you instantly get worse.

We gotta show him we aren’t the rough riders organization. Plus, he’s still a good player. When he’s healthy he is still a 1000 yards per 18 guys and a great leader. Hopefully he doesn’t have to take as many hits this year with Bowman and Demski on the team.

The Bighill signing is absolutely outstanding! What better way to move on from the Douchebag Doubles fiasco than to pick up an elite, experienced MLB and all-around class act in Adam Bighill. Hands down the biggest acquisition of the off-season.

On the surface It seems like a poor change. (the reversion of the force out rule) If a wr is goes up, gets the ball, is going to come down in bounds and the db pushes him out that doesnt seem fair. But at the same time, the dbs can do soo little with out getting a flag. And the field is soo wide, the offense should be able to operate well with in that range. Now just let the wrs and dbs hand fight, but not push off and im happy. if 65 yards isnt wide enough the offense is doing it wrong. Plus the throw to the side line is not exactly a lethal offensive weapon.

Depth is good! I seem to recall having both Adams and Dressler out at the same time last year and our receiving corps was basically a joke. Now, hopefully, we can withstand that a little better.

Never underestimate the importance of a Jake Thomas type player for our BB on and off the field .

Maybe they intended to bring him in for camp but he was waiting on another opportunity first..or just wasn't able to commit right away but now is..could be anything and wouldn't read to much into it in regards to not being happy with other qbs

Why? Maybe they're planning on dumping Mahoney. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how Ross and Streveler are performing.

It will be interesting to see How Randle and Thompkins do. Randle has something like 64 NFL games under his belt with some nice production.

Manziel's arrival in the CFL might be the cue for some guys who are in the same boat: tired of waiting for the NFL to call and hoping to hit re-start in Canada.

I hate seeing players get injured in preseason but I can't say I'm too terribly upset with the Riders NI talent pool taking a hit.

Darren Bauming has reported that the bombers signed Bighill to a 1 year deal paying him 175k. A very good price for such a talent and 4 CFL teams had been vying for his services.

A couple of people have suggested this thread should be closed / die. There is absolutely zero reason to lock this thread. If you are done with the conversation, don't read it anymore. It is as simple as that. When the community is done discussing a topic it will shuffle down the list to die with all of the other threads that have run their course. Mods don't direct what topics are discussed. They enforce the rules of the board to try to keep the discussion civil. A thread is usually only locked when it has gone way off the rails or someone has resurrected a really old thread. I would never be part of a forum where the mods dictated when a topic can be discussed and not ... just because a few think it shouldn't be discussed anymore.

Proven that he can't be an effective starter. I understand that people want to see experience, but just because a guy has been around the CFL doesn't mean he's good enough. If Nichols goes down for any length of time then yeah, it's trouble, but that would be the case if they had Vernon Adams too. It's why I liked the signing of Durant, but he's a dickhead so here we are. I'll hope one of the newbies can show some promise and then I'll pray for Nichols.

Kenbrell Thompkins is a cousin of Antonio Brown of the Steelers. Arrested 7 times between ages of 15 - 18. Seems he finally got his life on the right track, after getting sent to a military-like bootcamp. Then got a scholarship at U of Tennessee. Dude didn't start football until 19 and has caught a (real) TD pass from Tom Brady. How many of those 6 dl games where when we were refusing to use our best line up and forcing thomas in, not starting jeffcoat etc though. We struggled against the run vs every team that wanted to run, for idk 3 years? Any time a team has decided to focus on the run theyve had their way with our D for far too long. The hurl effect. May be right, but we all know mos loves to roll with a crazy amount of Lbers. I think we will see a lot less rotation of the front 7 this year, and smaller numbers of players at both positions.

No chance. They will go all American. I know ppl love Thomas for some reason but the fact they signed him because Marouf went down with likely a serious injury and he takes Maroufs spot tells me bombers arent as high on Thomas as a couple of posters are. Thomas isnt good.. Hes ok for depth i suppose but no other team signefld him when they all could have. Hes not a starter. Why weaken the DL by playing an inferior CDN.

Florida got bent over... Gave them March so they would take smith. Minny got bent over... Gave them Tuch so they would take Haula and not one of their top 4 D men. Who they later traded for 2 underachieving forwards. Karlsson had like 1 goal last year.. His career high was 9 prior to this season. Chevy? Vegas took Thorburn and switched picks with us... We took Vesa with that pick. Chevy did good.

Ridefans was just in love with Nick James too...figured he was just this monster presence...they must be up in arms now

William Karlsson had 6 goals and 25 points with Columbus.... then has 43 goals with Vegas. Smith went from 37 to 60 points.... Perron went from 46 to 66 points.... Haula went from 26 to 55 points.... Marchessault went from 50 to 75 points... This is a team that over achieved... no one would of predicted that they would of all done this well.
