  1. Mike

    Training Camp 2018

Thought I did, to be honest. Had the mobile window open and apparently didn’t hit post reply. Don’t visit either forum much anymore unfortunately so didn’t notice until just now. PS I don’t run this site at all and I’d say it’s unfair to Rich and the moderation team to suggest I participate in the day-to-day operations of this place whatsoever. Here are my camp thoughts so far based on the odd times I've stopped in at practice:Chris Streveler plays a lot like Mike Reilly without the polish of the veteran experience. Threat to run, threat to beat you over the top with a good deep ball and he is slowly picking up on the timing routes in the middle parts of the field. I haven't watched him a ton but I have noticed he's improved day by day that I've been there. I think he's our number 2 by September, if not out of camp.Myles White might be the best receiver in camp ... think Weston Dressler with a bit more size. His moves in the middle of the field and ability to make guys miss is something that this roster could really benefit from. I don't know if there's a day one spot for him at this point, but his return abilities and an ongoing performance in camp/pre-season games could push one of our three out the door or put him on the roster some other way.Kembrell (I think?) Thompkins wears really short shorts. He looks like the kind of deep threat that I would liken to a guy like Brandon Banks, but a little bigger ... he's never going to catch 90 passes, but I could see him grabbing 50 for 800-1000 yards in the right offence. I just don't know if that's here. They've had him on the neg list for a while so he's going to get a chance, but he's not the future (already older than Darvin) and so I really can't say for sure that the timing is right with him. Rueben Randle is another one ... I just don't know how these NFL guys crack the roster. Could be something to watch though.Forgotten about has been the linebacker battle now that we signed Bighill, but honestly I'm putting JSK on my roster over Wild at this point. Do they both make it? Who knows but if you're looking for cap savings, Wild could be a candidate ... then again, so could Drake Nevis because Brandin Bryant looks like a force at DT and compliments Poop Johnson well in terms of skill set.Marcus Sayles ... we always go out and scout all these big bodied defensive backs and then of course it's a little fella who lights up the camp. His nose for the ball is incredible, but I want to see how he plays with the lights on. So far, going against the same guys with the same playbook and the same tendencies every day has served him very very well but let's see how he does with a different opponent. Also been impressed by Seisay (until he got nicked) and I've seen flashes from Humes (who is built like a mack truck)Rashaun Simonise and Daniel Petermann ... jesus christ... these two guys are solid. Simonise is going to be a day one starter for us, he's left Wolitarsky behind if you ask me - even if DW is healthy. All three will be on the roster though.Week One Roster Prediction?QB - Nichols, Streveler, RossRB - Harris*, LaFranceFB - Rush, MillerOL - Bryant, Neufeld*, Goossen*, Chungh*, Hardrick, CoutureREC - Bowman, Adams, Dressler, Simonise*, Demski*, Petermann, Wolitarsky, White (DI)DL - Jeffcoat, Okpalaugo, B. Bryant, Poop, Roh (DI), Corney, EkakitieLB - Santos-Knox, Bighill, Fenner, Wild (DI), Miles, Briggs, GauthierDB - Randle, Leggett, Loffler*, Gaitor, Alexander, Jones, FirlotteK - Medlock (DI)LS - RempelAs much as I like Flanders, I just don't see him on the squad even if they part ways with a guy like Ian Wild and use Wilson/Gause instead. What do we need him for? He played a hybrid slot/tailback combo and Demski looks like he can very clearly fill a very similar role in our offence. There's only one football and I'd rather they look at ways to integrate a guy like Myles White into the offence instead so that when we go deeper into the season and have some injuries, he's not going to go all deer-in-the-headlights on us. Bowman/Adams/Dressler/Harris/Demski/White/Simonise/LaFrance is a ridiculous amount of weapons on offence and Flanders just loses the numbers game in my opinion. I also see them getting creative on defense with the ratio ... we'll "start" two there since I expect we'll have rotations that put two Canadians on the field all the time anyways - makes it easier to get Myles White on the field in certain packages if we want to give Harris a breather, throw Demski in the backfield and roll 4 imports on offence at times

  2. BRIAN HELBERG..on the BC Lions Remember? - Solomon Elimimian broke his own record for defensive tackles in a season by recording 144 defensive stops. Chris Greaves (N)- signed as a free agent on February 13th. Greaves has 112 CFL games under his belt, split between Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal. 141- the number of ‘quarterback pressures’ allowed by the offence in 2017, the highest total in the CFL. By comparison, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers allowed a league-low 71. Fun fact - The average height of the 16 defensive backs in Kamloops is 6’ 0” and the average weight is 192 pounds. The average age of the Lions secondary is 26 and the average BC defensive back has played in the CFL for three seasons. The Leos were aggressive this winter, landing Garry Peters, Dominique Termansen, A.J. Jefferson, Otha Foster III, Cauchy Muamba and Mike Dubuisson all in the first week of free agency. Winston Rose and Marcell Young were signed shortly thereafter. Of the 16 defensive backs on the roster, 10 of them are six feet or taller. The CFL.CA Staff made a list of 20 position battles to watch throughout training camp. They mentioned the Bombers in 3 position battles. 9. WILL linebacker, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Jovan Santos-Knox, Ian Wild The Favourite: Jovan Santos-Knox All off-season, when reporters asked if the Bombers would bring in Henoc Muamba, Kyle Walters and Mike O’Shea maintained their trust in Jovan Santos-Knox. The signing of Adam Bighill shores up the middle linebacker spot in Winnipeg, but Santos-Knox is still in the running for a job at WILL linebacker. The pressure is on for both Santos-Knox and the veteran Ian Wild, who appear to be in competition for the WILL linebacker position. 12. Backup quarterback, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Alex Ross, Chris Streveler, Zack Mahoney The Favourite: Alex Ross Even with just one year next to his name, Alex Ross may be the Bombers’ second-string quarterback by default following the departure of Darian Durant. He was supposed to compete to be the team’s developmental third-stringer, but now he’s the most sensible backup due to his experience. Chris Streveler has talent but is just 23 and too raw to be thrown into the fire, while Canadian Zack Mahoney is likely fighting for a chance just to stay on the roster after going undrafted. 18. Field wideout, Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Participants: Drew Wolitarsky, Tylor Henry, Daniel Petermann, Tyrone Pierre, Rashaun Simonise, Brendon Thera-Plamondon The Favourite: Drew Wolitarsky It’s no secret that the Bombers plan to start two Canadian receivers on offence, with one of those spots occupied by newcomer Nic Demski. Former supplemental draft pick Drew Wolitarsky seems to have the inside track on the job, but a talented crop of rookies could make for a difficult decision from the coaching staff. Rashaun Simonise is the big name here. The former University of Calgary receiver is considered a bit raw after being out of football for the last year, but he’s been in an NFL camp with the Cincinnati Bengals and has the highest upside of any Canadian receiver on the roster aside from perhaps Demski. The rest of the list is here: https://www.cfl.ca/2018/05/22/position-battles-20-watch-training-camp/ 👁‍🗨 Well, they closed the MOS sleeper loophole today.. A loophole in the “sleeper” play rule is closed by making it illegal for a player who enters the game and remains outside the numbers to receive the ball in any manner, including a kick or lateral. Every player from the 2018 CFL Draft is now under contract – with the exception of those who signed in the NFL or are going back to school – 1st ro7nd choice Chapman remains the lone unsigned selection. First overall CFL draft pick Mark Chapman and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are “light years” apart in contract negotiations, per league sources. Multiple sources say Chapman wants a deal in line with what Rutherford and Ekakitie received while Hamilton is trying to get a below-market contract. It was unanimous among scouts that Chapman was the most pro-ready player in the 2018 class. - Justin Dunk CFL News - U.S. fans with cable will have to pay $5/month more to watch the 68 #CFL games on ESPN+ awfulannouncing.com/espn/u-s-fans-… via @awfulannouncing 👁‍🗨 I mean, who doesn’t want to have 2 players on the team named Chinedu Oparaku and, of course, Tristan Okpalaugo? An updated depth chart from John Hodge: 👁‍🗨 MOS on Adam Bighill: “There was a point in the interview where (Bighill) talked about the competitive spirit he has and his statement was ‘I’m going to beat you.’ That’s all you need to write. That’s who he is." ow.ly/lxUw30kaCgz Love it! 👁‍🗨 I disagree with the NFL’s ‘stance’ on must stand for the National anthem and the heavy-handed approach they’re taking. I tell you...once he is in the game flow and back to where he was, he is going to seem like an Import receiver. I hear that if not for his PED screw up when in Cincy he would have probably stuck on their PR

At least guys like Climie and Sanchez have the capacity to put some thought into what they are saying, Burris and Schultz are just idiots saying the most superficial thing as if it was hard hitting in depth stuff. This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm not the biggest fan of Doug Brown on the radio either. Guy is a smart and knows what's going on but I find he simply talks too much and tries to use too many big words when it's not needed. If he'd keep things short and to the point he'd be really good but he rambles too much.

Darvin looked like he will be beast during the regular season. During one on ones him and Bowman put on a show. Dye also made a nice catch in the back of the end zone. AJ Coney reminds me a lot of Denmark. I agree with Simonise if you did not know it you would think he was a import.

We need to cut the linebacker who won't give his number to Bighill. Bighill deserves whatever number he wants for signing here.

  11. According to Darrin Bauming: Well, we do know it will be a tight battle in the West this year, but to rank the Bombers so haphazardly shows that those media types have not been paying attention.

  12. https://www.cfl.ca/2018/05/24/cfl-unveils-results-inaugural-media-poll/ LMFAO. Well according to this verbal diarrhea were gonna be junk this year. Weve gained maybe the premier MLB in the league, picked up a perennial all star receiver, signed a young steady DE, and added a couple of solid veteran DB's. What have we lost?? A single overrated DB?? How in sweet **** do these "pundits" think were going to be wallowing in the west basement?? Did 75% of these pundits poled live in Sask?? Did Rod Petersen put on various moustaches and hats and vote 23 times?? So the Riders gained a 34 year old DE and a shell shocked QB that has been utter junk for 2 years and all of a sudden they are challenging for the west? LMFAO. What a joke.

  24. It just goes to show how little research many media members do and frankly how lazy many of them are. Riders are auditioning left tackles and have a weak RT and C, will be starting a NI like Hurl at LB and Edem at safety and have terrible NI depth but are apparently world beaters.

I like when Dunigan is doing games with two subpar teams and where lots of mistakes are being made and the outcome really doesn't make a difference. This is when he shines and does all sorts of funny sound effects and jokes around about pass drops and anything funny that happens on the field.

  30. There’s no doubt we’ve failed miserably in recruiting QBs..for whatever reason. I wouldn’t single out Walters exclusively though, he’s simply following what seems to be a tradition. Develop? I don’t really care if we trade for one or find one when we spend $.75 and pay for it with a loonie. The veteran back up plan seemed to be a good idea however, in theory anyways. Kevin Glenn is a good example. LeFevour, not so much. Durant? ‘Nough said. Its perplexing, but maybe, just maybe that tradition is coming to an end.

  36. Sigh... we're still on about this "We haven't developed our own QB" crap? Again I'll ask the question, in the standings, is it 2 points for a win but 3 points if you win with a QB you developed? No? Then who bloody well cares how they get here as long as they do.

Personally, I was bloody terrified and disappointed because I thought that Wade had gone the quick and easy route in hiring the guy that worked down the hall, and when that rookie GM hired a rookie HC, I thought "Two rookies in critical jobs, what could possibly go wrong?". Well, I was wrong. Right people, right place, right time. Go Bombers!

Very interesting. And exactly the reason why many of us find value in the man, the Coach, and his importance to the team. Adam Bighill says it himself. It’s the culture of the team nowadays. When Wade Miller, Kyle Walters, and Mike O’Shea were trotted out as our team, to lead the team, we were all excited but anxious because they were new and inexperienced. Now we know. This organization is light years ahead of the dead planet atmosphere that prevailed in the years before. We’re still anxious, but for much different reasons. It’s the ‘when’ now, not so much the ‘if’. We’re getting closer. That’s the culture we revel in now. And many more players, like Adam Bighill, realize it too.

  44. The Bighill signing is absolutely outstanding! What better way to move on from the Douchebag Doubles fiasco than to pick up an elite, experienced MLB and all-around class act in Adam Bighill. Hands down the biggest acquisition of the off-season.

  45. On the surface It seems like a poor change. (the reversion of the force out rule) If a wr is goes up, gets the ball, is going to come down in bounds and the db pushes him out that doesnt seem fair. But at the same time, the dbs can do soo little with out getting a flag. And the field is soo wide, the offense should be able to operate well with in that range. Now just let the wrs and dbs hand fight, but not push off and im happy. if 65 yards isnt wide enough the offense is doing it wrong. Plus the throw to the side line is not exactly a lethal offensive weapon.
