  1. BLM down after a late hit at the knees. IMO that kind of hit should be an ejection.

  2. Been extremely impressed with Lapo's play calling this year and that highlight thread was fun to watch. Streveler reminds me quite alot of Dunigan.

  3. Here's a real nice Twitter thread from the Cats' play-by-play guy about the concepts that Lapo is running with Streveller. He shows his work with tons of video examples. Great work, wish there was more of this kind of thing in the CFL media. You'll see lots of misdirection, lots of similar looks with different guys carrying the ball. Love the play where they have Andrew Harris be the lead blocker for Streveller out of a shovel pass look. Really showcases the dude as a change-of-pace QB. (click thru to Twitter or use the link above to read the whole thread. man twitter threading sucks)

CFL GAME NOTES - Confirmed - Travis Lulay starts! - it will be the 70th of his career but only his 5th in the last 48 BC Lions games since Sep 3/15. He last started on Sep 8/17 but was injured on the 2nd play from scrimmage. - Chance to Sweep: Winnipeg has an opportunity to sweep the BC Lions and accomplish what they have done only 4 times since 1996 (with the return of Montreal & the All-Canadian CFL). Their last sweep against BC on Oct 14/16. - Andrew Harris v BC: Ran for a season-high 109 yards last week, his 17th career 100+ yard game and first-ever against his former club. In 6 games vs BC, Harris has averaged 6.0 yards per carry (66 for 393) and has added 38 catches for 276 yards in those contests. - BC v WPG since 2011: Winnipeg won the first game of the 2018 season series last week at Investors Group Field and this game will be the second of a back-to-back set. The last 5 meetings have alternated between Bombers and Lions wins and no team has won twice in a row since October 2016. Since 2011, 11 of the 17 matchups have been decided in the last 3:00 - Winnipeg leads 9-8. - 4 straight TD drives: The Blue Bombers scored a TD on all four of their possessions from midway through the first Quarter until late in the opening half in last week's victory. It is the ONLY time that Winnipeg has scored on 4 straight drives in the entire period where the CFL has detailed drive-possession data (1995 to 2018). - Ty Long: Has a CFL-best 51.8 yard punting average, well ahead of the CFL record of 50.6 yards set by Jon Ryan in 2005. - Rainey: Leads the CFL in combined yards at 212 per game, on pace (3816) for the #2 mark all-time, just behind Chad Owens (3863). __________________________________________________________________________________

Has there been a decent game this year? I can't recall another season that started off this badly, winner is already determined before the half.

CFL.ca GAME NOTES - Consecutive ties: In all of CFL history and going back 111 years to 1907, two teams have played to a tie at the same site in consecutive seasons only three times. The current 2016-17 Ottawa vs Calgary situation is even more unique in two other ways: 1) That this has occurred in the OT era which makes ties even rarer (14 times in exactly 2,500 games or .6% of the time) 2) And that for the first time it involves CONSECUTIVE GAMES at the same site  Trevor Harris 300+: Last week, Harris threw for 342 yards and 3 TDs, his second 300+ game of the year and #21 of his career. That means he has gone over 300 yards in 47% of his career starts (21 of 45)  Ottawa Rushing Record/ CFL Pace: William Powell leads the CFL in rushing with 355 yards averaging 118.3 yards per game.  Greg Ellingson #1: Greg Ellingson has been the CFL's reception & receiving yardage leader since the start of the 2015 season  Fastest to 60 QB wins: Bo Levi Mitchell's career winning % is now 59-10-2 .845 with a 3-0 .900 mark in 2018 (first time at 3-0 off the top since 2014). This week Mitchell faces Ottawa who are 1-6-2 against Calgary when he starts.  Calgary 16-0 Off a Bye (10-0 Road): Calgary's record coming off a bye is remarkable and they are 16-0 since 2005. Their last loss after a bye came on Jul 1/05 vs TOR and that was in Wk #2 when they had yet to play that season. Calgary is 10-0 in those post-bye games on the road.  Recent OTT v CGY matchups: Calgary has won the last 2 meetings including a 24-14 win in Wk #3. Since 2014 the REDBLACKS have defeated Calgary once though they have earned two OT ties at TD Place. These ties occurred in the most recent meetings in Ottawa. Ottawa's last win over Calgary was on Jul 24/15 - Calgary in four visits to TD Place are just 1-1-2. - Brad Sinopoli: Posted career-highs of 11 receptions and 15 targets in gaining 148 yards last week in the win over Montreal. His 148 yard total was the 2nd-highest of his career (156 on Jul 22/16 v SSK). 20K / 89.7 Rating BLM: Bo Levi Mitchell (20,221) has surpassed the 20000-yard mark becoming the CFL's 34th QB to do so. He trails #33 David Archer (20,671) who is next up the list 450 yards ahead. He leads the CFL with a 103.9 pass efficiency mark and is #2 with an overall 89.7 CFL Quarterback Rating (right behind Mike Reilly at 89.8). His 13.9 yard average throw depth is #1 in the CFL. - 35/11.7 Pts Allowed: The last time that Calgary allowed fewer than 35 pts in their first 3 games was 47 years ago (9 PA in 1971). Their pace of 11.7 per game is the lowest by any CFL team since the 1964 BC Lions at 10.5. Calgary's club record is 18.5 in 1970. - Field Position Last Meeting: In their game two weeks ago, Calgary started 3 drives deep in Ottawa territory and cashed them all into TDs. The Stamps began drives at the Ottawa 17, 37 and 23 yard lines for 21 of their 24 points. - Sacks Allowed: The Stampeders rank #1 in the CFL allowing just 3 Sacks in 3 games and have a current streak of 17 straight possessions without allowing any at all. They have ranked #1 in the CFL in 4 of the last 5 seasons in Fewest Sacks Allowed. - Leading After Q1: If Calgary gets up after 15:00 they usually win. They are 1-0 in 2018, and 65-12 since 2011 when up after Q1. - 2nd Dn Conversion: Something will have to give in this game as Ottawa is #2 in allowing Opponents to convert at just 40% on 2nd down plays vs Calgary at #2 on Offence (54%). Ottawa also ranks high on Offence at #4 (53%) vs CGY whose defence is #3 (41%). - Combined FG kicking - 16 in a row: Rene Paredes and Lewis Ward are a combined 14-of-15 this year - Paredes has now made 16 straight and 34 of his last 35 tries dating back to Sep 4/17. - Don Jackson 80+: Jackson has at least 80 rushing yds in each game - the last Calgary RB to do that? Jon Cornish Sep 1-13/14. - Michael Wakefield: Recorded two Sacks last week and is one of only three players with at least three Sacks thus far. - Leading After Q1: If Calgary gets up after 15:00 they usually win. They are 1-0 in 2018, and 65-12 since 2011 when up after Q1. - Eric Rogers: Leads the CFL with 3 TD receptions - all of them in the last 2 games in which he has 10 of his 11 catches. - Greg Ellingson 30 straight: Last week extended his consecutive game streak with a reception to 30 games in a row. - Leone & Maver: Have combined for 5 punts where the opposition was forced to start inside their own 10-yard line. CFL Record Performances & Trends in Brief:  Jeremiah Masoli 300+: Has tied the CFL record with 9 consecutive 300-yard passing games matching Sam Etcheverry (1956) and Kent Austin (1991) who each made it to 9 games in a row 62 and 27 years ago.  Long FGs?: In 2018, there have been just 4 field goals attempted from beyond the 50-yard line. Sean Whyte, Lirim Hajrullahu have made from 50+ while Justin Medlock missed from a season-high 59 yards. The tendency to go for 50+ kicks has been falling steadily since 2016 when there were 44 tries from 50+ yards, and only 33 in 2017. The 2018 pace? Just 20 tries from 50+.  Long kick returns?: In 2018, there has been just 14, a pace for only 71 big plays all year. In 2016 there were 107 long returns.  2-&-Outs Up?: In 2018, there have been 9.9 per game compared to just 8.7 last season. Net Offence overall is down by 2%.  Converts at 93%: In 2018, there have been just 4 misses for a 93% mark. The highest % since the distance moved out to 32 yds._____________________________________________________________________________________________

Living here in Calgary, I can honestly say that in the past two years the Stamps have lost thousands of fans because of what happened vs Ottawa & Toronto. The local sports media here seems a lot less interested in the team as well. If the Stamps get back to the Grey Cup with a 16-2 record (say) & lose to a clearly inferior team, the results would be disastrous on their eroding fanbase. I don't know how they come back from that. The fanbase would demand blood. Which would be the beginning of the end, I'd say. I know it may sound strange but 15-3 or 16-2 regular season records mean nothing to football fans here. Winning the very last game of the year does.

Lulay>Jennings But Lulay hasn't played any meaningful games in almost a year. Gotta think it'll take him at least a half to get back into the rhythm. I would rather play him now instead of 3 weeks from now And that left side of their OL is going to get blown up. I think this is the perfect scenario for us honestly.

Foucault is a liability at guard. The guy will be out of the league before he even has a chance to play tackle. Lulay is a thousand times better than Jennings but with that o-line I can’t imgaine this change makes much difference.

  22. Lulay is a smart QB who can read a defense. He’ll find the open guy. I expect him to give us more problems then Jennings but that being said I think we’ll still take this one. Our offence is just that good and we should get enough help on both sides of the line to give us that edge.
    1 point
  23. Why is everyone so chicken of Lulay? 🐔 Guys played 25 games in the last 4 years, missed TC, hasn't had a chance to get familiar with the first team and is coming off an injury that will certainly hinder his mobility. I must be in the minority but I would be way more nervous about Jennings having a bounce back game against us

  24. What’s wrong with Corney? They need to keep that guy out of the weight room so his body lasts. 2 imports have to sit, interesting the number of Canadian receivers on the chart, almost makes you wonder if there will be a surprise healthy scratch. Hard to believe Lulay is starting after seeing the brace he was wearing during the game last week.

The Stamps have the best-balanced, best-staffed team they have had in years, and do look to be the team to measure others against. However in one game, anything can happen- and sometimes does. That's what makes the playoff so riveting.

yup, this has been the least entertaining CFL season I can remember. All the games are either two shitty teams volleying punts or complete asswhuppings. So many teams have QB issues -- Harris and Jennings have both regressed badly, Saskatchewan and Montreal don't have legit starters, Franklin is promising but no one in Toronto cares, Masoli has a magical Kevin Glenn-like power to undo wins... This is the CFL that CFL haters see.

Buckley was never that good. I don't know what Dickenson & Hufnagel saw in him. He had 1good game last year in the Stamps 60-1 shellacking of the Ti Cats at McMahon Stadium. A high school team could have beaten the Cats that day.

Of course they will be better with a better quarterback, no one would suggest otherwise. The issue is, with that o-line and defence it almost certainly won’t be enough.

Calgary's offense looks different this year. BLM is throwing deep a lot and it's not just to one receiver. It's their defense that sets them apart tho. DB's are in tight coverage. LB's are hitting a ton and staying in tight coverage. Their DL is creating lots of pressure. The only thing that could set them back is their depth doesn't look to be as good as it has been in the past.

You can cover it with a safety that doesn't get caught flat footed. Ottawa's offense is terrible and they refuse to use the run.

  43. The craziest thing to me is the lack of DB depth in Sask. Isn't that the one position you can audition guys with little practice time on man coverage. If you can stick to your man you don't have to have the whole defensive playbook in your pocket. To keep playing Carter to wreck both sides of the ball is mind blowing. Someone mentioned Mike Kelly and his QB under centre fascination. Jones' stubbornness totally reminds me of Kelly that way.
