  1. Game Day Notes - CFL.ca BC @ Calgary - How Dominant is Calgary? Up by 14+ Pts: One way of measuring a team's sustained level of dominance is how often they take big leads. The Stamps have led in EVERY contest this season by 14 or more points and this it is now 6 games in a row. In CFL history only two teams have EVER led by 14+ points in more than 6 consecutive games: Bombers - 1982 - 7 games Lions - 2011 - 7 games - Calgary Field Position #1: The Stamps lead the CFL in starting point for their drives - they begin on average at their own 40-yard line compared to the other 8 clubs whose average is just the 35-yd line. That increment of 5 yards per possession by season's end would equate to an extra 1,300 yards of Offence - or stated differently other clubs would have to gain 1,300 more yards to have the same shorter field to cover. Calgary opponents have to gain 15% more Net Offence yards just to make up for this differential. Calgary's Rank in starting FP by year - 2012: #2, 2013: #2, 2014: #1, 2015: #1, 2016: #2, 2017: #2, 2018: #1. - 6-0 CFL Teams since 1998: The Stampeders have started 6-0, an accomplishment matched by only FIVE CFL teams in the last 20 years prior to 2018 (Montreal in 2002, 2004 & 2006 plus Saskatchewan in 2008 and Edmonton in 2017). Calgary was last 6-0 in 1995 when they had a 7-0 start. They have reached 7-0 FOUR times in their history (1948, 1949, 1993 & 1995). - Jordan Herdman: Recorded 12 defensive tackles in BC's last game stepping in for Solomon Elimimian. His 12 stops were the most by any first-time starter in CFL history covering the 1987 to 2018 seasons when Defensive Tackles first became an official stat. - Stampeders vs Lions: Calgary has won 4 in row and 8 of the last 9 meetings with BC. The Lions' last victory at McMahon Stadium came on August 1, 2014 with Kevin Glenn at QB. Glenn is the only BC Quarterback to lead them to a win at McMahon since July 2012 and Calgary is 7-1 vs BC at home since then. - 6-game win streaks as a starter: Bo Levi Mitchell has led Calgary to FIVE different win streaks of at least 6 games in his career. Only two other QBs have engineered more of these 6+ game winning runs for their club. QB Winning Streaks of 6 or more Games (In Same Season) Player - Anthony Calvillo 6 - Bo Levi Mitchell 5 - Doug Flutie 5 - Ken Ploen 4 - 11.3 / 10.2 Pts Allowed: Calgary is challenging a long-held CFL record having allowed only 11.3 total points per game thus far. In the entire CFL Era (1958 to today), the fewest TOTAL points allowed record is held by the 1964 BC Lions at 10.5 per game and followed by Hamilton (1965) at 10.9 ppg against. The second take on this record is DEFENSIVE POINTS ONLY ... For Points Allowed by their DEFENCE only, at 10.2 per game Calgary ranks #3 historically. 2018 10.17 4 (Calgary is on pace to allow the fewest Opponent offensive TDs in CFL history) 1958 10.63 22 - Travis Lulay 300+ / 4-2 W-L: Travis Lulay will be making his 3rd straight start and he comes in with back-to-back 300+ yard games. The only time in his CFL career that he has reached 300+ in 3 consecutive games was in July 2012 (Jul 14-28/12: 3405, 360 & 315). Since the start of 2017, the Lions are 4-2 when Lulay starts and 5-12 with Jonathon Jennings at QB. - Sacks in 23 straight games: Only Calgary, Winnipeg and Edmonton have registered at least one Sack in every game this season. Calgary has the longest active streak with at least one sack at 23 games dating back to the 2017 season opener. Calgary has recorded at least one Sack in 32 of their last 33 games. - Alex Singleton: Through Week #7 no player had a higher % of his team's defensive tackles. Singleton has made 35 of the 222 Calgary defensive tackles for a 15.8% share. Next: J.C. Sherritt at 14.4%, Adam Bighill at 14.3%. - Calgary at home: The Stampeders are 47-6 in their last 53 regular season home games back to September 2012. Their last 9 home victories have all been by double digit margins. - Kamar Jorden: Is one of only 4 CFL players with at least 4 receptions in every game this year (D.Walker, D.Williams, B.Sinopoli). - Emanuel Davis: Was blanked for interceptions last year after making 5 in 2016 & 2017. He has two this year already for Calgary. - Leads of 14+ points: Calgary has led in every game this season by at least 14 points. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Once upon a time there was a wonderful place called Canad Inns Stadium. We must be careful not to speak about this time too loudly, but the memories of such a place warm us in this cold and horrible place and time we find ourselves in now. There was parking for 33,000 vehicles within 20 steps of any entrance into the stadium. Hundreds of invisible doves flew constantly around the stadium and would sweep down and take anyone who could not walk these 20 steps easily and they would carry them right up to their seat. Every fan was treated with an incredible 7 course meal for the sum of $1, or pocket lint if they did not have a loonie. It was such an incredible experience and everyone in the land was happy. Then a dark cloud covered the land. An evil presence was felt by all in the great land of Winnipeg. A booming voice was heard by all and the ground trembled. It was the evil Asper! The evil Asper tore down this beloved treasure, the Canad Inns Stadium. There was much weeping. The evil Asper banished the invisible doves to the island of Hecla where they were forced to play golf on a deserted course day and night. There was much weeping - though they were also confused about the island of Hecla. The evil Asper constructed a dungeon on a desolate and dark precipice of land that could only be reached by Sherpas riding mountain goats. The evil Asper then taxed the good people of the land of Winnipeg until they were all paupers in order to pay for his new dungeon that he named IGF. 10 times per year, the evil Asper and his evil henchmen would round up thousands of the now homeless people of Winnipeg and force them using pointed sticks and hobnail boots to walk the entire 100 mile stretch without the aid of mountain goats to reach his dungeon. While in this dungeon, the evil Asper forced the poor wretches to eat cold hotdogs and held them there until their families could find a way to scrape together the tonne of gold bricks that was needed to this sustenance. When the weather would get cold, he would even tell them that he had no hot chocolate! When the wailing was at its peak, they could hear the violin playing from the distant tower where the evil Asper would cackle and contemplate new indignities for his minions to endure while being held in his dungeon called the IGF. And there was much weeping throughout the land. Could there be a hero somewhere who could free the people of Winnipeg of their misery?

What we are seeing in Montreal is a nauseating replay of the Gliberguys regime during those dark days in Ottawa. Incompetent owners hiring incompetent people on a whim or by personal like and that is filtering down all the way to the field. There is no easy or quick fix for this and the well has been poisoned for any GM or coach who comes next.

  7. Resorting to fat jokes? You know how I know I hit a nerve? It's ok to be a casual fan, not everyone has what it takes to be a die hard. If you have that much trouble being a fan in Winnipeg you better not ever move because it's a hell of a lot harder to be an out of province fan. Takes much more dedication.

This is such bullshit.. I actually feel bad for Manziel and the genuine als fans. Throwing him to the wolves without throwing a regular season cfl pass. 4 practices to learn the offence. kavis reed is honestly a selfish piece of **** and I will be glad when he is done in this league. Humiliating. Johnny’s agent was absolutely right. It was insane There was so many things wrong with this plan that only a FOOL would have thought this could have turned out remotely well

  9. Oh we were bad no question about it, but we didn't go handing over years worth's of draft picks to buy a QB who had never played a down of CFL football. A total display of mental illness by all management people in MTL.

The agent was right. Beyond the picks, what might concern people, is that his mechanics from the pocket looked lousy....and too many passes just floating up there....

  13. Dear lord, what a mess in Montreal, and the way Kavis "Clueless" Reed has mortgaged their future, i have no idea how they are going to crawl out of this abyss. Even when we were garbage in the Jim Daley, Mike Kelly, Tim Burke era's, we were never THIS level of excrement. Its truly a shame. They are going to be bad for a long time and the fickle fans in Montreal are going to go bye bye.

You put a guy in at QB after 4 days of practice on a bad team and you expect what? Seriously.....what a stupid decision from the get go. That circus does nothing positive to promote the CFL .......and then that goes to ESPN......another bone head move.

How dare you imply that McMahon Stadium is not state of the art. You miss the point - McMahon is a vintage (1950's) Calgary landmark. I love my season tickets (business write off and I give them away) And Amen! I would love to see something new in Calgary but at my advanced age I doubt I will see it in my life time (after all I am 60 Now). I make it back to the Peg a couple of times a year and always time it to catch a game at IGF and what a treat it is to be there.

  18. Point Douglas is even more inaccessible than the U of M campus. That would have been the absolute worst location. I can still remember Asper's pitch about having people park downtown and jump on a barge down the river to get to the game.

  19. What they didnt say about St B, it would take almost 100 million to clean it up.. So much crap there.. Seriously the biggest reason why its empty is the cost just to clean it up. Point Douglas ideal but theres a group of 20 homeowners there who legit make it impossible to do anything. Theres a reason both those areas dont get much if any new developments.

I thought JM2 would be better too. Same style of QB as Vernon Adams so Khari would not need to tweak MTL schemes. Clearly it was a gross error to think Manziel could succeed after just a few days of practice. Even Adams, with 4 years in the CFL, couldn't do much behind that O-line. But that MTL team is just plain bad - from the coaching on down. Kavis Reed is being revealed as a joke, again. I feel sorry for the fans in Montreal. This is bad for whole league.

  26. For all the questions about Manziel and his personal conduct, considering the steaming pile of mess in Montreal, he did show some raw talent. He can scramble and has a pretty good arm but the question whether he can adapt to the CFL and thrive is still unresolved. No question the season is lost to the Larks, so they have to decide how to manage their quarterbacks' game time to their best advantage. And BTW, Willy is a dead man walking.

  38. Realistically anything central would either require tearing down a large number of houses (which for obvious reasons is a non-starter) or would have to be downtown. That's a lot of downtown real estate for a building that doesn't get a whole ton of use. They would have had to build a domed stadium/convention centre sort of deal to make that work. That would have cost a fortune. The U of M offers sort of blank slate considering the abandoned golf course. Unfortunately that land wasn't developed in conjunction with the stadium. They could easily stick some bars and restaurants on to that land, maybe a couple of parkades and the necessary roads. If you have those things, there's really not much of an issue. The bars and restaurants help draw some people early and keep some people late which obviously helps traffic. Rapid transit should have been completed before the stadium opened as well. Howsoever, here were are with none of those things around the stadium. There's always going to be some issues with getting in and out of there in it's current format but I think a lot of them are overblown. They only time it really sucks is if you drive and park in the value lots.

  40. I live an hour south of the city and was at the game last week. We parked 30 mins away from the stadium at the LC on Pembina (my lazy excuse to get a workout instead of going to the gym). Literally zero traffic heading southbound from there, just waited for red lights but other than that was off to the races. When I had season tickets at CanadInns, I would get stuck between St. James to Ness turning onto Kenaston for at least the length of my 30 minute walk. We used to run right after the final buzzer to get to the car to try to sneak out via Empress instead but that was hit and miss. TL;DR, everyone has had different experiences at both locations and it probably depends on which direction you are going after that determines your commuting experience to and from games.

  45. The location is never going to be perfect for everyone. We just need to accept that. The Polo Park location was farther for me. Giving myself extra time to and from the game was an accepted reality. IGF is much closer to me now, but I know many others whose drive/trip has now been extended. There are always going to be a ton of people unhappy with wherever you build it. There are a ton of options to get to and from the stadium as well. Also the game day experience has been improved immensely over the years, particularly since Wade Miller has been in charge IMO. They make better use of the JumboTrons (they provide stats now) and they are better at showing more replays. They seem to really focus on creating a fun experience too.
