  1. IIIIT'S GAME DAY!!!! GAME 8 | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (3-4) at WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (4-3) Kickoff: 7:30 p.m., Friday; Investors Group Field TV: TSN, RDS, ESPN+ Radio: CJOB Vegas line: The Bombers are favoured by 5 points. Streaks: Hamilton: 1W: Winnipeg: 2W Home/Road: The Bombers are 2-1 at home; Hamilton is 2-2 on the road. Series (since 1961): The Bombers lead 63-55 and are 36-23 all-time vs. the Ticats in Winnipeg. Recent history: Winnipeg has lost two straight against the Tiger-Cats, falling 31-17 in Hamilton on June 29th and 30-13 last October 6th here. In that last game, Matt Nichols exited at halftime with the Bombers trailing 16-10 with a hand injury. (Thanks to Ed Tait)

  2. Game Day Notes - CFL.ca - Coach O'Shea: Mike O'Shea comes into this game with a career record of 39-40 and needs a win to reach the .500 mark in his 80th game leading the Bombers. The last time his career mark was .500 or better was on Sep 26/14 prior to a 16-11 loss to Hamilton. So it will be Hamilton again that is the opponent in this regard. O'Shea's coaching career can be divided by a very key date - July 28, 2016: the date Drew Willy was replaced.. W13-L28 until July 28 (.317) Jul 28/16 Jun 26/14 To Present -W26-L12 since (.684) - Coach Jones: A win in their last game snapped a 3-game losing streak and returned his career W-L above .500 at 9-8. Since taking over on September 4, 2017, Coach Jones has never been below .500 - last week's win in Montreal prevented that. What is remarkable is that both O'Shea's and Jones' W-L records are tied to #1 QB changes - O'Shea's in 2016 mid-season, and Jones on taking over and moving to Jeremiah Masoli as #1. - Hamilton up +28: The Ti-Cats' 28-0 lead last week at Montréal was the largest by any road team in all of CFL history and matched the all-time record set by three previous teams - Hamilton Offence: The Tiger-Cats come in with the #2 ranking for Net Offence at 411.3 yards per game in 2018. They have gone over the 500-yard mark twice already, something they did just once across all of the 2016-2017 seasons. - Bighill Tackle Rate: The last full CFL season for Adam Bighill was 2016 when he made 108 defensive tackles for BC on the way to his fifth consecutive all-star season. That equates to 6.0 tackles per game, precisely the same as he is in 2018 with 42 to date. He now has 551 for his CFL career good for #21 all-time. - Dressler 119: Weston Dressler's consecutive game reception streak is up to 119 in a row (last game w/o a catch: Aug 12/10). His 119-game streak is the 8th longest in CFL history (next ahead at #7 is Craig Ellis at 120 in a row). He is 200 yards away from becoming the CFL's 17th 10,000 yard receiver and is 3 catches short of becoming the CFL's 13th player to reach 700 career receptions. - Jeremiah Masoli 11 of 12 at 300+: Led Hamilton to 5 TD drives in 10 possessions last week before giving way. He had exactly 300 passing yards to make it 11 times in his last 12 games with 300+ passing yards. Only two players have ever achieved that kind of 300+ consistency: Sam Etcheverry in 1955-56 with 14 out of 15 games & Doug Flutie in 1991-92 with 12 out of 13 at 300+. On the down side, Masoli has thrown an INT in all seven games this year. - Matt Nichols: In his first two starts of the season, Nichols TD:INT Ratio was just 1 to 3 on 57 attempts. In his last two starts, he has turned that around completely with 4 TD passes and just one interception in 54 passes. - WPG Field Position #1: In 2018, the Bombers have started drives on average at their own 39-yard line, well above the 35-yard line CFL-wide average ... and tied with Calgary for #1 overall. Winnipeg opponents have started their drives at the 35-YL on average. - Bombers Off a Bye Week: Since 2014 and the return of the CFL to a nine-team league, the Blue Bombers have had 7 games coming off a bye week and are 3-4 under Coach O'Shea. However, after going 0-3 in post-bye games in 2014-15, they have since gone 3-1 in their last 4 outings. They were the last team to get a bye in the 2018 CFL schedule. - Bombers vs Tiger-Cats: Hamilton has won the last two meetings with Winnipeg including a 31-17 triumph at Tim Hortons Field on Jun 29/18. They will be trying to sweep the Blue Bombers for the first time since 2015. Since 2011, Hamilton is 10-9 .526 vs Winnipeg and over that period that mark is their highest winning pct. against any current West Division club. - Interceptions run: Jeremiah Masoli has thrown at least one interception in all seven games this year. - WPG Last 4 First Halves: Over their last 4 games the Bombers have started fast outscoring opponents 93-30 in the 1st half. - WPG Sack Free: The Bombers have not allowed a sack in their last 20 possessions and just one in their last 30 drives overall. - Converting 2nd-&-Long: Hamilton is #1 in the CFL in converting in 2nd-&-7+ yard situations at 44%. - Red Zone Defence: The Ti-Cats have stopped opponents 13 times out of 19 Red Zone chances, #1 in the CFL at just 32%. - Back-to-back 150's: Jalen Saunders comes in with receiving totals of 154 and 150 yards in his last two games. - Brandon Banks: Has gone over 100 yards in 5 of his last 6 games.

I don't think there's any way True North lets this happen. They need that food court as a catchment basin to keep the riffraff from migrating south to Cityplace and True North Square.

  8. THANK YOU for the history lesson. I loved it. Good to know. Please share more as this American (new to the Bombers and CFL) roots around as if he doesn't know much....because he is learning. I will tell you one thing, I haven't had a better reception than the one I've received on this forum. I thank everyone for taking me under their wing and bringing me into the Blue Bomber family. I checked ESPN+ and they show just a few of our Bomber games. However, I might use them for the playoffs and Grey Cup. In the meantime, it's YouTube for the game a few days after or I can listen to the games online via your local radio station. It works for me either way right now. And I came across this video today about some other Americans who became Blue Bomber fans. I picked the right team no doubt!!! https://globalnews.ca/video/3629111/father-and-son-from-california-become-winnipeg-blue-bombers-fans

Anyway, this Ingraham stuff is pretty ******* scary. I am a legal immigrant to the USA. I don't feel personally targeted by the current administration because I'm the whitest goddamn person on the planet (I'm mostly English + Danish) and my record is squeaky-clean here ... but every time I see a headline about targeting legal immigrants I get a little nervous. I need to get my ass naturalized soon, because this is my home, and I need to feel secure in it, and also being able to vote will be good. Just in case anyone is curious -- I don't resent "illegal" immigrants because I got to emigrate to the USA by choice, I was at the end of a bad relationship and needed a change, and hey, why not Seattle? But I could have moved anywhere in Canada, or a lot of other countries, and I would've been fine. I didn't come to the USA under duress, because my home country is a bomb-paved hellscape, or because there's no other way I can support my family, or because my government is killing people of my religion. A lot of those folks have faced enormous hardship that I simply can't imagine, and once they're here, they are paying taxes and working hard -- much, much harder than I do, with my super cushy office rocket programming job. And so I'm not going to condemn those folks on the basis of them being on the wrong side of a border as a survival strategy.

  15. I dont recall going to Eatons but the Bay was the go-to place when I was a kid. Excellent toy department and literally, they had everything. Every department was fully stocked as they had so much space. And great Christmas decorations. My grandparents would take me there shopping regularly and we'd go to the Buffet restaurant they had in there. I remember it was always dark, like walking into a cave but I loved it. And they had a huge talking parrot (a real one) outside the restaurant exit that intrigued me.

  16. I have heard that some people don't like such an early start with so many summer games as they're on holidays or at the lake so they can't be there. Families take vacation this time of year & are gone. I don't think starting & ending the season earlier will magically make attendance go up. In fact, it may go down. To me, ticket pricing is the biggest barrier. People won't pay for high priced tickets as walk ups.

  17. When I was a kid in the 1960's, my Mom used to take me shopping with her. I absolutely hated it. We'd hop on the Morley Bus & then transfer onto the Salter Bus on Osborne Street for the ride to Eaton's or The Bay. Sometimes we'd start at Eaton's & go to every. damned. floor... then we'd walk from Eatons' to The Bay & do the same thing. Very occasionally, we'd bus it over to Polo Park but that meant a day's worth of shopping which was a nightmare to me. I remember whining the entire time everytime we went. Finally at about age 11 she let me stay home by myself.... Felt like a grown up!!! I sure remember those days walking Portage Avenue on the south side.

  18. Ive only been to England (Im a citizen). Lots of very old buildings ofcourse. But the countryside is gorgeous. We stayed with relatives, cant remember where exactly, but it would equate to a small town near the big city and it was surrounded with rolling hills. You'll always get that. Although, New York is a good example of a city that carved out some significant green space!

I suspect Reilly is feeling the hurt from the hits he has taken already this year. It is a shame we got Edmonton in the first game when he was 100% or we might have had more success pressuring him.

  22. Lotsa space in front of the Richardson building too. Most people are leery of change, and that's ultimately what's going on here. Neither the best or worst-case scenarios will end up happening. Traffic won't come to a screeching halt, and it's not going to be the second coming of Times Square. What will happen when it's opened is that people will be able to walk across the street, period. Just like they do at every other intersection this and every other city, and the world won't end.

    Wrestling

    - ROH (with New Japan) is going to sell out MSG for their WrestleMania Weekend show (running head to head against NXT). They sold over 8000 pre-sale tickets and I believe its over 12000 and just opened to the public. This is really remarkable and exciting. They have not advertised any of their top stars (Omega, Bucks, Cody) because all have expiring contracts. This will be the first North American wrestling gate to top $1million that was not promoted by Vince. It will be the first MSG sell out since 2015 (WWE event with Brock) and before that, 2012. WWE's most recent MSG event with Ronda and Undertaker did not sell out. WWE has got to be pretty pissed off about this. - WWE quarterly numbers: $281,542,000 in revenue and ended with a $9,945,000 profit. That's $67 million more than last year's quarter though profits didnt jump as much due to executive compensation (stock grants). WWE is looking very, very good as far as revenue and profit is concerned. - The ALL IN event has some interesting broadcast partners. They will air the first hour on WGN America and then the main show will be on PPV, Fite TV and Honor Club. It will likely be on New Japan World as well, but only for Japan. The line up thus far: Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi vs Rey Misterio, Bandido & Ray Fenix Cody Rhodes vs Nick Aldis(c) - NWA World Heavyweight Championship (with the idea Cody is trying to win the title his dad won) Okada vs Marty Scurill Jay Lethal(c) vs Winner of WGN America Battle Royale - ROH World Heavyweight Championship Christopher Daniels vs Stephen Amell (of Arrow fame) Hangman Page vs Joey Janella Tessa Blanchard vs Chelsea Green (from Victoria, BC) vs Brit Baker vs Madison Rayne Rumoured: Kenny Omega(c) vs Pentagon Jr - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship WGN was interested in TNA but it would have meant TNA going dark for a few months before WGN has a slot for them. The popularity of non-WWE in the US is creating some interesting possibilities. If ROH or Impact or New Japan got a major national TV deal, it changes a lot of things for them. - New Japan is marketing a Bullet Club cologne with Kenny Omega as the face of the marketing. - Brian Pillman II has signed a multi-year deal with MLW (they have TV in the US). - Lots of speculation that Chris Jericho will end up in Impact even though he said he'd do nothing in North America to piss off Vince. He's apparently changed his mind. he also wanted $250,000 (if I recall correctly) to work Winnipeg vs Kenny lol - Some teasing for an nWo reunion. Hogan, Hall & Nash were filming nWo related stuff at Hogan's beach shop....and there are rumours they will all return to WWE Tv. - WWE is looking to scoop up key guys that work for these promotions that are gaining ground (ROH etc). They signed Matt Riddle after not wanting to because of his pot advocacy and Pentagon Jr & Fenix are on their radar. Of course, they'd snag Kenny and the Bucks in a heart beat if they could. And I imagine Cody too

Ya think? LOL. Derrell Walker & Duke Williams would make Drew Willy look good. I like Mike Reilly but put him on a team with average to below average receivers & he'd be nothing special. The Esks have made sure to always surround him with big & talented pass catchers. I do wish we never gave up so fast on Kenny Stafford.

  25. Good for them. I like that we aren't peaking too early this year. We're an elite team in this league and we're going to kick the Ticats ass tonight.

  26. And.....this is another reason I picked the Bombers. If I ever make it up for a game (and believe me I am checking flights or looking at driving, etc) I want to be in the stands with passionate fans like these folks. GO BOMBERS!

  27. I don't want to brag but, I used my New Mexico USA mojo last night to help the Lions bring down the Eskimos in the standings. It was a combination of a huge bonfire in my backyard, a small farm animal for a sacrifice and a lot of beer. Oh and some chanting. You would understand if you lived in New Mexico. (ha ha) All the Bombers have to do is win tonight!!! And yes, I did figure out that I had my weeks screwed up. We're playing Hamilton tonight, right? GO BOMBERS!

  28. I decided to follow the CFL for the first time from start to finish. I have known about the Bombers and have watched them before. I love their uniforms. I love the stadium (looking at it online). I like what I've read about the fans. And frankly, this far into the season I know I made the right choice. I am not some flighty kind of fan. I pick a team and ride with them through bad and good seasons. About the how I watch the games. My wife and I cut our cable a few years ago. So, now I actually check the news and scores online. Then a day or two after the game, the full broadcast has been showing up on YouTube. So, I watch the game that way. I will probably try to go to a local sports bar when the playoffs arrive and of course when the Bombers go to the Grey Cup this year. 😉

That's where I also go, always get at least a 720p stream to work EDIT: run a good ad blocker too, makes all the linked sites run so much smoother. I'm using uBlock origin with a bunch of custom filters/white lists and related extensions to block virtually everything and automatically close any popups, redirects, everything. Otherwise I guess streaming is kind of terrible sometimes, I've kinda forgotten what the raw internet is like.

  44. This is the true litmus test. can we show better after getting a chance to play the offense that kicked us around so badly? we've made great strides in stats and in the eyeball tests against weaker opponents... let's see what happens against Hamilton again before passing judgement..

  45. Average attendance thus far is 26,380. This is right in line with many past seasons. As a point of comparison, we were 14-4 in 2001 with an exciting team. Average attendance was 27,033 and they blacked out home games back then. 2002 we were 12-6 and we averaged 27,559. Blackouts for home games that year too. 2003 we were 11-7 and average attendance was 27,225 and still home games blacked out. I don't think blacking out home games would make an impact on attendance.

This this this. The sky is not falling friends. CFL is having a bit of a rough patch in all cities. Look at Calgary, it is the best team by far for years and yet empty seats. All live sports are having dips in attendance. In the end live sports is one of the things that will keep cable companies alive so there will be a will to succeed beyond just the leagues themselves. South Winnipeg is growing. Big housing growth on both sides of the river. Sure there are a lot of immigrants but the second generation will be more open to "Canadian" experiences. The experience will continue to get better too. That golf course is not going to be groomed grass forever. There will be lots of housing and businesses including bars and restaurants close by. The rapid transit system south will be finished soon and the east west rapid transit will make the "horrible travel" easier still. A Grey Cup or two will shore up the "losing" mentality. Source: living in South Winnipeg with immigrant family and friends and riding transit regularly. Also be positive you wimps.
