  1. Can you show us on this doll, where the bad defensive coordinator touched you?

  2. YEAH HE IS...AND IS 4-1 as a starter this year even though he has played below his usual standards...point being???...I can say too..we are probably better off with Strevler behind center if Nichols gets hurt than anything you guys trot out there...especially based on the support all around )coaching/rb/O-line/receiver) and proof is in the pudding from whats transpired this year so far. Heck...Streveler has produce more TD's this year in his 3 starts and spot play all by himself than your offense has in total all year...can't deny that can you?

    Ottawa @ Winnipeg

Game Notes - CFL.ca 👁‍🗨 1-2 combo: 9/21: The Bombers have allowed just nine sacks, fewest in the CFL, and have 21 quarterback sacks – most in the league. Bombers vs REDBLACKS: Ottawa has won once in Winnipeg since joining the CFL in 2014 but overall are 4-4 vs the Bombers despite losses in their last three meetings. Matt Nichols has started the last 6 games for Winnipeg vs Ottawa and is 3-3. A key statistic from last year's season series was the Bombers' 5-1 advantage in the Turnover battle which aided their sweep. 👁‍🗨An amazing stat - +16 point leads in 5 games in a row: The Bombers have built at least a 16-point lead in each of their last 5 games - that is just one short of the club record of 6 straight set in 1981 (Sep 27/81-Nov 1/81: leads of +36, +24, +31, +32, +20, +38). The CFL record is games in a row with a lead of 16 points Trevor Harris: Last week, Harris completed 44-of-54 passes and was just one completion short of the CFL record of 45 set by Henry Burris on Oct 1/15 (45/53). Harris' 54 attempts were the most ever thrown in Ottawa history, and in the 4th Quarter alone last week, Harris went 12-of-15 for 128 yards in leading his 11th career Q4 Game-winning drive. - Fastest to 60 Receptions: This year Brad Sinopoli has a CFL-leading 60 catches in his first 8 games. - 40 wins for O'Shea: Last week's win over Hamilton was the 40th of his regular season career. Mike can move up to #5 all-time in Blue Bombers history with a win this week and move ahead of Mike Riley - he can be as high as #4 by season's end with a 5-5 finish. 1st Down Rushing Avg: Despite having the CFL's #2 rusher in William Powell, the REDBLACKS have averaged the lowest number of yards on 1st down rushing plays. They have gained just 4.8 yards per 1st down rush and that ranks #9 overall. By contrast, Winnipeg is tied with Montreal for #1 in the CFL at 6.2 yards per 1st down rush. Since 2015, Ottawa has the most wins vs Western clubs of any East Division team with 15. - Lewis Ward 96%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a kick of any kind. Ward is now 25-for-26 96.2% with a streak of 22 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player. 👁‍🗨Not too bad for an undrafted player.. - Greg Ellingson: Had a huge bounce-back game last week with 11 catches for 110 yards, his first 100-yard game since Game #1. His 11-catch total compared to just 12 in his previous 4 games, the lowest 4-game total he had had since m id-2016. - Ottawa's 4th Q Game-winning drive: The REDBLACKS' 4th Quarter GW drive last week was their 5th across the 2017-18 seasons. That ranks #3 in the CFL over this two-year span: #1 Edmonton 8, #2 Toronto 7, #3 Ottawa 5. Their game-winning TD last week came with 0:15 to play after a 7-play, 69 yard march in 2:06. - Ottawa’s Brad Sinopoli already has 60 receptions through eight games. He is one of only three players in CFL history to have accomplished that feat, joining Derrell Mitchell (64 catches in seven games in 1998, en route to a league-record 160) and Allen Pitts (62 catches in eight games, finishing with 118). CFL Game #44 Team Trends – Ottawa at Winnipeg: - Andrew Harris 6,988: Needs the following rushing yard totals this week to achieve a variety of accomplishments: - 7 yards to pass Earl Lunsford (6,994) for #14 all-time - 12 yards to become the 14th player to reach 7,000 for his career - 20 yards to pass **** Shatto (7,007 corrected career total) for #13 all-time - 73 yards to pass Jim Evenson (7,060) for #12 all-time - Bombers East & West: The Bombers are 1-2 vs Western rivals but a solid 4-1 vs the East. They are 16-5 vs the East since 2016. - 17-2, 23-4: Over the last 3 years (2016-18), Winnipeg is 17-2 when they lead after the 1st Quarter and 23-4 with a half-time lead. - Deep TD throws: The Bombers have given up a CFL-low 2 TD passes on 20+ yard throws; Ottawa has allowed a league-high of 8. - 2-Pt Convert comparison: The Bombers have attempted a CFL-low 1 two-point convert; Ottawa has tried a league-high of 9. - 1st Half vs 2nd Half: The Bombers have a +96 scoring margin in the 1st half thus far; but ... they are just +1 in 2nd halves. - 1st Half vs 2nd Half II: Ottawa also is 1st Half strong at +20 in the first 30:00 and ... are -5 in 2nd halves. Random CFL Notes and streaks: - Most QB Starters Single Season: Montreal has used 4 different QB starters this year and with Johnny Manziel questionable for Week #10 may lead to Antonio Pipkin or Matthew Shiltz being #5 for them. The CFL record is 6 different starters by Winnipeg in 1983 (Dieter Brock, Tom Clements, Norman Gibbs, Nickie Hall, John Hufnagel and Mark Jackson). - Calgary +17 T/O Ratio: The Stamps are at +17 for their 2018 Turnover advantage - that +17 mark after 7 games is on pace for +44 which would break the CFL record set by Edmonton in 1981 at +41. Calgary's club record is +27 set in 1996. - McLeod Bethel-Thompson: Led the Argos to a 42-41 victory over Ottawa. Here are a few superlatives from that game 1) From 24 down I: The Argo comeback matched the 8th-largest in CFL history, just 3 points short of the CFL record from 27 points. 2) From 24 down II: 2nd-largest in Argos' history, one point less than their 25-point recovery of Oct 2/94 (11-36 to HAM, won 39-36). 3) Half-time deficit: They trailed by 21 at half-time and won matching the 3rd-largest in CFL history after 30:00 of play. 4) 4 TD pass debut: One of six players with 4 TD passes in their 1st career start. CFL record: An incredible 8 TDs by Joe Zuger 1962) (Ricky Ray 2002, Matt Dunigan 1984, Condredge Holloway 1975, and Ron Reeves 1983 also had 4 TD debuts) 5) 2nd Half Passing: Bethel-Thompson passed for 233 yards and 4 TDs in the 2nd half alone. 6) Q4 game-winning drive: Drove 86 yards on 11 plays in 1:44 going 5-of-7 for 60 yards with completions to four different receivers. - Calgary +14: Stamps tied a CFL record at 7 games in a row with at least a 14-pt lead matching the 1982 Bombers and 2011 Lions. – Bombers safety Taylor Loffler on the evolving defence: We’re doing a lot of different things, changing the looks up, which is nice, from the previous years. Our defence is able to do that and it’s made a big👁‍🗨(hill) difference out there. It gives the offence we’re playng against different looks and they can’t know exactly what we’re going to do every time. We’ve definitely come a long ways and we definitely still have a long ways to go. But it’s really looking up right now and we just need to keep going from here. We had a little bit of a rocky path there to start… we’d have a good game and then have a bad game, but we’ve been a lot more consistent over the last month and just keep steadily improving. We can’t take a step back. We have to keep going on an upward path.”

  6. Streveler is good. Nichols is better. Right now. That's all the coaches can do. Is play for tomorrow. Putting any doubt about Matts spot on the team because of a rookie qb with a losing record would be Chris Jones stupid. Oshea is committed to the only winning qb the bombers have. Why anyone would question that is beyond me.

  7. thing is....we can send any receiver deep....it's just not s skill set exclusive to Lankford..I wish people would get off of this idea that we need a specific "guy" who can stretch a defense. If you send any one deep on a post..corner..fade..whatever...a team will have a guy in coverage on him every time. And at this level (pro) Lankford isn't some amazing speed talent where nobody can/will cover him. The thing thats negative in my opinion..and experience playing is that 9 times outta 10 Lankford going deep will not require...or have a team game plan to have over the top safety help on him and can focus it elsewhere as he is not a proven guy to make the tough catches...contested catches or win many 50/50 battles...whereas a Washington...Tompkins...even Simonese could/would I know that at times we would tell a corner that this "field stretcher" is all yours and leave him at that until he shows he is getting beat, or if the free safety has read the play correctly and jumped the play as it was the first read and play went there...I think it's a waste of a chance to roster someone else and give our offence a diffident dynamic for teams to worry about as the season progresses...

  8. When did “games we should have won”, become a statistic in the standings?
    2 points
  9. Since Nichols took over the only team that's done more winning than the Bombers are the Stampeders, and they don't have a lot of Cups to show for it either, so forget O'Sheas overall record, that is heavily influenced by taking over a team that wasn't very good. This team is built to be a contender long term because they are using their draft picks wisely and have built some pretty good depth at the NI positions. That is what leads to long term success in the CFL. The Grey Cup will come eventually, no need to panic. Forget 1990, fretting over that is what has led to a lot of stupid hiring and firing decisions since that time.

  10. so pure pig headedness. I believe this is Halls last season here but not as a firing, more of a riding off into the sunset kinda thing. Gotta admit though that the D is playimg pretty well so what's the problem?

  11. I thought Manziel ducked into it, so I think a penalty and suspension would be too much. The defender didn't lead with his helmet either, I think it was just one of those hard plays that sometimes happen rather than any sort of intention to injure. I could be wrong, but that's what I saw.
    2 points
  12. That injury wasn't the OL fault. However, I thought the hit on Manziel was a deliberate headshot. The Ottawa defender aimed for Manziel's head & gave him a shoulder shot. There should be a penalty & suspension.

  13. Your memory is short, 50 kick off returns last season, 1,223 total yds, 24.5 yd. avg. Please elaborate on the countless fumbles he's given up in the two years he's been with the team.

  19. I think people are over reacting on how bad Lankford is. He's a decent returner and as a receiver he isn't the worse we have seen in the O Shea era.

  23. Pretty much all QB's have flaws...but when you look on Nichols since he took over as a starter...he is what...29-12?...and thats playing in front of some porous defenses whee he had to consistently put up 30+ points just to get that win...so I'd say over the last 3 years he is a proven winner at this point now...not flashy and all bang...but just wins IF a Rider fan can't admit that they would be happy if they had him running the show the last few years..well then they have no real football I.Q..even behind the cheese cloth O-line you run out there game to game his quick reads and ability to make a play quickly he would do pretty good...though probably get pummeled to a pulp in doing so

  24. But isn’t every fumble crucial? It was a great return notwithstanding. It’s unfortunate about that fumble, it might have lead to at least 3 points..or not. The staff must see something in Lankford and he draws in over Washington..for some reason. We’re at the point where we must trust the Bombers’ staff for including certain players in their game plans. As long as we keep doing well and win, what do I really care?

  25. Personally, I have found Ripper to be a Rider fan that seems to be a decent enough sort of chap as Rider fans go. Sort of how dysentry is better than ebola. Possibly due to the his family tree having fewer loop backs than most! (j/k Ripper)

  34. Chris Jones basically comes out and announces that the Riders violated the CBA today with releasing Bagg. Can't release an injured veteran. Should have kept him on 1 game IR. Gonna be a lot deeper doo doo than a $25,000 fine if the CFLPA decides to grieve this. What a maroon, why even say this?

  43. Alrighty then! Let's talk football, I love a friendly banter between our provincial neighbors. I agree that the Bombers and Riders are both proud, entertaining football teams that are the heartbeat of their respective communities. I set out to settle once and for all, in cold hard football facts, using math, that the Bombers are simply a flat out better team than the Riders. I began by comparing the overall records of the clubs since their inception by regular season, playoff totals and Grey Cup Wins: Saskatchewan Roughriders Regular season: 568-601-23 (47.65%) Playoff record: 70-60-2 (53.03%) Grey Cup record 4-15 (21.05%) How are you this bad. Overall record: 642-676-25 (47.80%) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Regular season: 641-603-15 (50.91%) Playoff record: 66-53-2 (54.54%) Grey Cup record: 10-14 (41.67%) Overall record: 717-670-17 (51.07%) Look at that, better winning percentage for the Bombers in every category! I know, I know, all you Rider fans are gonna say "Yeah, but the Bombers haven't won a Grey Cup since 1990". A valid and albeit sore point of contention for Bomber fans. So I looked at the most woefully embarrassing period of history for the Bombers - their overall record during their current Grey Cup drought. For the sake of mercy, I've excluded the 2018 season as it would only serve to further Chris Jones' greatness as our lord and savior. As you quite kindly pointed out, every game is purely for entertainment, and as such we'll be focusing on the overall record of the teams, as regular season games have as much weight as any Grey Cup match for entertainment. Any Rider or Bomber fan knows the importance of the Labour Day / Banjo Bowl matchup is just as important as capturing Le Coupe de Grey. Saskatchewan Roughriders (1990 to 2017 inclusive) Regular season: 217-267-2 (44.65%) Playoff record: 13-12 (52%) Grey Cup record: 2-3 (40%) Overall record: 232-282-2 (44.96%) Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1991 to 2017 inclusive) Regular season: 224-260-2 (46.09%) Playoff record: 10-11 (47.62%) Grey Cup record: 0-5 (0.00%) Overall record: 234-276-2 (45.70%) That's right, even in the Bombers most inept era consisting of famous QB greats like Alex Brink, Ryan Dinwiddie and Darian Durant, you guys still managed to eke out a worse overall record. Sure, you guys have a more recent Grey Cup wins, but you also took more than 50 years to win your first Grey Cup! At the current rate of a Rider Grey Cup win every 25 years, you guys would need to another (25 years * 6 Grey Cups) (don't forget to carry the 1) = 150 years to even match us! Are you even trying? Also, troll harder - your green is showing.

  45. I guess you and i approach life in different ways.. I approach people as they are telling the truth and are genuine until they show otherwise and genrally accepting. You know the whole, grow the community by being inclusive? You apparently assume the opposite which is kinda sad. if this is someone trolling, then go on the attack when they reveal them self or have the whole thread deleted. It funny how the same approach is taken with other bomber fans that are "trolls" because they have different opinions from up north. You keep being you bud.

  47. I would hardly say Ottawa is 'hot' right now - they barely won against the Als last night, and the week before imploded against Toronto. They are also only .500 on the road thus far. Edmonton and Calgary are still the teams to beat. That's not to say Friday will be a cake walk - it is the CFL and anything can happen, I just think we're a better team than Ottawa overall. As for Nichols - I think he just had an off game against the 'cats. He'll bounce back.

    Respect When Posting

I'm not sure if the winter has suddenly got a bunch of people in a pissy mood, but there is way too much caddy / sarcastic remarks and insults going back and forth between a number of posters over the last little while. As a rule, we really don't like over moderating this place and take a wait and see approach on a lot of the "on the line" questionable posts. Unfortunately this has led to things sliding too far in the wrong direction, and seems to be snowballing. It is popping up in more threads than not, and not the kind of discussion we want to be the norm here. Moderators are going to be taking a harder line on this kind of behaviour over the next little while. You will get a warning or PM on these questionable posts. Not going to immediately lead to a banning or suspension unless it become a recurring pattern. So if you get a warning, take a moment to consider what you are posting that led to the warning.
