  2. 3rd and 1. You need to read this and understand that this board is not about your favourite team. Your disingenuous with your comments about only wanting to talk about football. Most of your posts are about SK related opinions. Most folks here don’t care about that squad. This is a Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan forum.

  3. Matt Nichols is the best QB we’ve had since Khari Jones and we had our two best seasons in nearly 20 years with him under the helm. Obviously he must be hurt right now and he needs to play better but my god. Fickle fans. After all the junk we’ve had at the QB position over the years I’m not ready to write him off just yet, however yes he needs to be better.

I think Nichols is hurt, not healthy. I think that, along with the being injured through training camp and the first few games of the year explains some of his issues this year. That, and he threw to Lankford too much. Don't throw to Lankford... he's open for a reason.

  6. and so it appears to be occurring again..teams are constanlty evolving their line-ups..bringing in new guys at expense of current ones to better their squad...as we stand pat with the same old "we like our guys"...and "he has worked hard in practice"..."we aren't interested in him (Mathews) This is the reason that I don't think this management group has the stones to get over the hump...blind loyalty and "liking" a guy only goes so far...and I agree with what Leggett said last year...we need a couple grade A assbags on the team who play to win and don't give a flying @##$ what people think on how they do it...we have a more than capable locker room to manage and maintain it...time for coaches and management to stop being a bunch of ******* and be old school football men...infuriates me to no end

  7. Don’t be that guy.. on one leg Nichols completed 72 percent of his passes, for 371 yards and 3 td’s and zero INT, also Nichols had 390 yards passing, 2 tds and completed 65 percent of his passes, and zero INT back in the 2016 WSF against BC. Kevin Glenn WISHES he was ever as clutch when it mattered as Nichols. How can you blame those loses on Nichols when our defence was historically bad when it mattered?
    3 points
  8. unless Nichols wins us a playoff game, I don't put him ahead of Kevin Glenn.

  9. We would have had to sell the farm for him based on what Montreal gave up. Also, he hasn't proved anything in this league yet.

I do not think that you will hear anything of substance on OB tonight or any other coaches' show. It is 90% commercials with a few cliches and generalities sprinkled in.

The only way the GOP impeaches is if they fear for their own lives. They're self-serving DBs, who never put "country" before power. Manafort is still facing state charges for tax evasion. Given these convictions, he'll likely lose those too. Trump can't pardon those. But Cohen implicated POTUS. Incredible.

  18. What do you want the D to do when the O goes 2 and out 8 times a game?
    2 points
  19. Apparently for some, many, Mike does escape blame. For a lot of people on this forum, it's simply "a stubborn streak", nothing to do with his ability as a head coach. All the ire aimed at Hall, when last season's end, O'Shea said he would be more involved in the D. He's been given a good chance to succeed (success being a Grey cup appearance at least). We have a good quarterback, some CFL superstars on offence, and defence, arguably the best O line in the league, some other very good offensive and defensive players. Roadblock, Calgary, just beaten by the maligned Riders. So Stamps are not invincible. Time to make it happen.

  20. Defense took a few terrible penalties after 2nd down stops, and it seemed to open the floodgates. I think they ended up scoring every time we did that.

so if he is in fact still injured, and he is important to have healthy as our team's starter... why don't we sit him back down for a few games and let him get healthy again? after all, isn't the old saying, the CFL season doesn't truly start until after Labour Day? with our record we're already in a playoff position, and the possibility of a crossover is very much there.

Same thread as every year... we debate and doubt a player's talent and then at season's end find out that he's been playing injured... Just really seems apparent that he was pulled of six game too early

  23. Okay matt is the best since Khari, and we had our best two seasons with Matt in twenty years. I agree. But how does looking backwards help get to a cup ?

  24. I don't hold with your optimism about Hall. If O'Shea wouldn't fire him last season then he won't this season. I also don't like the way our Canadian receivers are treated on this team. Lankford, an International plays while Petermann, a Canadian sits. Wolitarsky plays & he never gets thrown to. He's shown if given a chance that he too can make plays. He can't when he is ignored. A great game for him now is 2 catches for 25 yards. He is of no consequence at all.

    Some observations

Petermann is an excellent choice to replace Dressler. Imagine if O'Shea was Joe Poplawski's HC back in 1978, he'd never have seen the field & been CFLROTY, a CFL western Conference All Star & All Canadian. He may never have developed into a HOF receiver. O'Shea's misguided trust in Lankford while stifling Petermann's growth is absolutely mind boggling.

  26. Oh really, I beg to differ. Besides your recent baiting thread last week, you've posted twice in 2018... and one of those was another baiting attempt regarding the Darian Durant signing. Can you once, just once talk about something from outside your own borders? Maybe about what makes the Stamps so consistently good, how the other teams in the West will fare, or *gasp* that maybe, just maybe, there are other fans in this league?

  27. This is exactly the issue. Matt Nichols is not a gunslinger. He is the anti-Mike Reilly. The CFL version of Trent Dilfer, except he doesnt have Jamal Lewis running the ball 30 times a game(even though i love me some Andrew Harris), and he doesnt have the 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense behind him. Farrrrrrrrrrrrrr from it. Based on Nichols' skill set Lapo has designed a run heavy, methodical, ball control offense thats predicated on not turning the ball over and eating the clock. When the game gets 2 or 3 scores away from us, its over. Even if Lapo made in-game adjustments(it sure doesnt appear that he does), Nichols aint gonna drop a 450 yard 4 TD line to rally us from a 31-10 deficit. Its not his game. And with a rusty, slumping Matt Nichols the margin for error is that much smaller. Our only hope is that Nichols wakes the F up and the defense gets their s*** together. Im not holding my breath on that last one.

  28. O'Shea has a stubborn streak a mile wide & I think he's not the kind of guy who can adjust to changes on the fly. I don't think he's a bad coach but I also don't think he's a great head coach either. I've never heard O'Shea ever say once he made a mistake & own up to it . He's too loyal at times with his coaches & his players. Failing to address the liabilities of Ritchie Hall is frustrating. He should've been fired after our playoff loss but it didn't happen. I think we'll keep winning with him during the regular season as that's proven but win a Grey Cup? Not sure he can do it.

Thompkins has 11 receptions for 180 yards which is a pace of just under 1100 yards for a full year. I'm fine with him. However if people aren't please share why?

I'd have left Streveler in only to save the wear and tear on Nichols, but he's still the guy for this team. I don't even think he was that bad, lots of penalties took plays off the board for them, he dealt with a lot of dropped passes and he dealt with a team that was taking away the Bombers running attack which screwed up the entire game plan. Just one of those games that happens where the other team executes their planned defense and you can't find the answers for it.

  32. Not but a few days ago the sun was shining on the Bombers and Bomber fans alike. The green team was dealing with the dismissal of a very good Receiver. Bomber fans felt it was a disaster, a tire fire, a train wreck was happening in SK. The world was a wonderful place in Capital of Manitoba. Then week 10 happened and the world came crashing down. The Bombers didn’t look anything like the team that won the previous games. Then the dreaded Riders looked like Giant Killers. Handing Calgary their 1st loss of the season and giving Bo a few bruises along the way. Plus Collaros looked like he was finding the form he had not so long ago. What a difference a week makes!

We don't need a gunslinger. Our qb is fine as he is. The other members of the team have to pick it up. Everybody has to do their jobs. Coaches & players. Nichols included.

Even though JFG is not a deep threat, he broke a hell of a lot of tackles catching short balls which I liked. But the other two yeah I'll give you that. I think PE is just reading a little too much into the change at WRs we got and assuming it's causing Nichols problems. I don't believe that's what it is. I think our OL while still fairly good isn't nearly as solid without Bond. I'm a bit concerned now with the Hardrick injury I saw last game. I do think Nichols did face a little more duress than he had usually this last game. I also blame our softass defense and it's awful DC for some of Nichols problems too. Every time he led a TD drive to try and cut the lead they couldn't get a stop to save their lives, and if that's what we gotta deal with the rest of the year against good offenses, we're ****ed. Defense has to do its job and step up and make plays.

  38. It hasnt been 6 years of futility. We saw consistent increases in performance. From cellar dweller to home play off game and expected grey cup contender. We went from an offense that relied on medlock kicking a record number of FGs to win games to an offense that can roll average 30 points and roll 50+ at any time. We went from no pressure on the QB to one of the better teams at getting to the qb. so on and so forth.

The knee is more worrisome to me. Legs are where you generate all your power. You dont need to be able to run like streveler in the cfl, but you do need to be able to buy time and throw on the roll. Any thing in the throwing chain foot to hand is bad for a throwing sport. Multiple in the chain is really really bad.

I chose to leave my seat "I give my all and play my heart out" or whatever he said... that's fine. Our publicly owned football team pays you over $400K a year, and what I see out there doesn't warrant half that pay at this point. but when the offence can't even move the ball into FG range, we don't even give Medlock the chance. last year, he had 5, 6, 7 FG performances because at least Nichols got the offence that far. Way too many 2 and outs this season, and that's what I see. Also, last year (at least for the first half) he was very efficient, went through his reads and found an open guy, or dumped off to Harris and let him make a play. I paid a lot of attention to Nichols head when he was in the pocket, and it really seemed as though he just locked in to one side of the field Friday. Didn't really see him go through the reads to all receivers, and the Oline was giving him time to do so.

Said this several years ago, LaPo is not a great coordinator. He cannot or at least doesn't seem to adjust as the game goes on and certainly not at half time. He has had the luxury of having Harris in the second half of most games and as was mentioned last night, they appear to be a front running team or at least one that can play when they are close at the half. If they are behind any amount his running game goes down the tubes and he doesn't have a QB who can throw like Harris and for that matte the QB doesn't have the game plan that Ottawa did. In a nutshell we got out coached in all phases of our game. Our defense was terrible and Fogg had probably the worst game of his career. Saylers (not sure how to spell it) did not play well either. The game plan was terrible. Our offense ditto the defense, not prepared and far to heavily weighted on Harris. Our HC, wrong personnel decision: Langford, get rid of him you have at least three others either on the PR or on the sideline that can play better than him. His kick off returns east west instead of north south. Flanders far superior to him in every regard regardless of position. Challenging a play in the first quarter just another dumb coaching move. Too early in the game. The reality is we are a talented team with mediocre stubborn coaching.
