  1. That's ridiculous. We all love to criticize the coaches at times (including me) because we are all passionate about our team, but we don't appreciate all the work and all the family pressures that such a schedule brings about. They don't get enough credit for all the hard work they put it.

  2. As a "Season Ticket Holder For Life", we were invited to attend a Chalk Talk session with Mike O'Shea last night (anyone else here go?). He went over how the coaches prepare for a game, went through the post game film and teaching they would do with players, went through examples of the post game film and plays they would review, all with the most recent Ottawa game. For preparation against Calgary, he also gave some examples of formations and plays Calgary would do in other games, then show film from practice on how they prepare and practice for those things. Didn't hide from any questions from the crowd, was pretty open in his answers. Went out of his way to talk and engage the kids in the audience. Really got the feeling that once he starts talking about football, he could go on and on for hours. Was a fun time, and as a fan of the game who has never played at an organized level, great to see some of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Would be very illuminating to sit on these sessions regularly to get a better appreciation of the finer points of the game. Thanks to the Bombers, Wade Miller, and Coach O'Shea for setting this up, was a fun night. Edit: Moved my post over here since JCon started a thread for it.

  3. Things like this is what I commented on before here...as someone who has been in these meetings and you actually know what the design for certain things are..scheme...responsibilities etc...you get to review the how and why things broke down. A lot of times on a forum people sqwuak and moan about things...The Qb has a crap deep ball...Why did the DB leave that guy open...etc..etc..they just don't know the what and why. Football has plays set up where guys are supposed to be in a certain spot...and if 11 guys follow script and one guy deviates..doesn't know where he should be..or plain messes up...and play goes to him well then it fails and sometimes fingers get pointed in wrong direction

    Chalk Talk with Coach O'Shea

Last night, as part of being a Bomber For Life, I was invited to Chalk Talk with Coach O'Shea. Coach spent over an hour going through video from the previous game, showing penalties that were called (legit and not) and described the process for coached and players between the end of the game on Friday, until the first practice yesterday (Tuesday). It was very interesting, and, as you probably know, Coach O'Shea is very engaging. As someone who has never sat down and watched video, the way high level players and coaches do, I found it quite revealing. Among the most interesting things was a pass from Nichols to Adams, where it appeared, live, that Nichols overthrew Adams, but it was Adams that faded off the route. Very revealing. He showed some penalties, where it appeared live as though there was no infraction but that the refs were correct. (Sorry refs, I may have used some negative language in your direction) He also showed some where they blew the call and the process for sending them in to the league for review. All in all, it was a lot of fun. I took my son and he enjoyed it too. I look forward to it next year. If you're a Bomber For Life and didn't go, you should try next year. I also won a door prize. A gift card to the Canadian Brew House. Nice.

Guy is human...took it personally. To me it means he cares and wants to be his best. So what? I agree this was blown out of proportion cause most fans were booing cause they wanted to see more of Streveler and were disappointed in MOS decision when the game was out of hand. We all know Nichols is our No.1 .The backup Qb is always the favourite when the game is a blowout. Nothing new here.

You have to be a Riders fan... Three games against the Riders is probably 2-1 for bombers... Bombers won't lose to Montreal so that's 3-1 Then Esks (x2), Calgary and RBs - let's say 2-2 or even 1-3... still end up 9-9 and that's playoffs

  8. I Think it is BS that they do not try to improve the team. They brought in Bighill, they brought in Andrew Harris, they brought in Chris Streveler and got rid of Dom Davis, they brought in Weston Dressler, They brought Justin Medlock and convinced him to stay this year, They brought in Nic Demski, they brought in Drew Wolitarsky, they brought in Kienan LaFrance....and it goes on and on. This is not Walters fault at all, nor Miller. The roster that goes on the field is controlled by O'Shea, and as many have said, and I agree, he is one stubborn dude, as can be said when he put Nichols back on the field at the end of last game, which caused the booing...but he won't admit it...and defends his actions with some lame excuse, about always trying to win. He is loyal to a fault, which is the reason we still have an average defensive coordinator at best. Having said that...the players respect O'Shea and some of them are here because he is here. I hate watching him get interviewed because he is so damn defensive about everything. Guess it goes with the position he used to play.

  9. Lankford had a near TD in his hands, great throw by Nichols, right on the money... and as Lankford was going down, he took his right hand off the ball to break his fall rather than hang on to it with both hands.... hit the ground, and the ball popped loose at the 1. If his priority is saving himself a little pain from the fall over securing the ball with both hands and making the catch, he's just not a good receiver.

Pffttt...Nichols comments are the reason the booing got blown out of proportion to begin with, before he publicly sulked the only other person talking about it was Suitor, attempting to whip up a QB controversy.

  11. The Riders just beat Calgary with Sam Hurl playing on the team..... I like to blame Lankford but he really was a tiny reason for the games we lost this season. Richie Hall has much more of a responsibility then Lankford losing us games this year....

  12. Hall was fired as Eskimos head coach & run out of Saskatchewan twice as a coordinator. Yes, we should be "criticizing a man of his credentials" if he can't get the job done as DC. Have the Bombers become a damned country club where loyalty is rewarded over winning? Where deserving players can't get on the field because the coaches like other guys better or have their favourites so an air of politics pervade? Have (management & coaches) become complacent with just being a playoff team over a legit GC contender or winner? Are they willing to make tough choices & make changes when they have to? Has this team lost its will or it's belief that it can still win? Despite what our HC says about his belief that they can absolutely win games down 23 points with just 3 minutes left in last week's game? Is it all talk? I'm beginning to wonder.

I wouldn't call it "competing" without a win over the Stamps. Sitting at 5-5 (if the Bomber lose) with the following teams on the schedule - Riders (back to back), Montreal, Eskimos, RedBlacks, Riders, Stamps and finally the Eskimos again, a disaster is brewing. A disaster to me is missing the playoffs and joining the Alouettes and Lions on the couch watching the playoffs. I can hear Jim Mora describing the Bombers right now in their current state and it's scary.

    2 points
  16. Nope...it's not that...and at this point in season there is no rust to knock off for a player who has practiced all year..thats nonsense. And why is he the best for the role..do tell Can he consistently catch a ball without using body??..can he box out a defender to position his body to have best chance to catch ball...caan he out muscle a defender on a 50/50?...can he catch a ball in stride and then make people miss or not go down on first contact?...basically the things you want in that role...well any role for that matter You have to say a confident no to all those questions...but we have a guy in Washington who does all these things....only thing Lankford has on him is tenure and regular season experience and that is where Oshea fails in a coach in his loyalty to that..or his reluctance to roll the dice on a new guy

  17. We can second guess every decision a HC makes but at the end of the day he is just doing what he thinks gives them the best chance to win games, you can't fault a coach for that. And who are we to think that we know any different, we aren't around these guys on a daily basis like the coaches are.
    2 points
  18. my argument is that Streveler should have gone in well before Nichols got injured. He only had 156 yds passing after the 3rd quarter, while Harris was probably more than double that at that point.... why not change it up!? 6- 2 and outs, no rhythm at all.... give things a different look. If O'Shea is going to get better as a coach, he can't be scared to change things up once in a while!
    2 points
  19. Yeah I hope I am wrong as well....but history keeps repeating here and Oshea has shown at times to a fault he sticks with his guys too long before basically having to make a move to save his arse...or quench the raging fires surrounding the team....That's his one fault that bugs me the most....outside of that I like how he runs the team and goes about things...can he evolve as a coach and fix this...hopefully so...is it Walters playing scared as a G.M and not trying to continually upgrade positions...regardless of what cuts have to be made for it...who knows...but they need to tweek their mindset a bit if you ask me

  20. Pretty good news. Jets also tweeted out 44 days to camp and had Morrissey as the gif. Not concerned tho as lots of RFAs around the league remain unsigned... Nurse and Nylander among others.

  21. The real reason we lost was we had Ottawa second and long ALL night and Harris found the sweet spot in our zone every single time. I’ve never seen a team complete so many second and longs. This is 100 percent entirely scheme and even with the best MLB in the league and loads of talent on the defensive side we will struggle defensively all season unless there’s a change at the DC position.

  22. and so it appears to be occurring again..teams are constanlty evolving their line-ups..bringing in new guys at expense of current ones to better their squad...as we stand pat with the same old "we like our guys"...and "he has worked hard in practice"..."we aren't interested in him (Mathews) This is the reason that I don't think this management group has the stones to get over the hump...blind loyalty and "liking" a guy only goes so far...and I agree with what Leggett said last year...we need a couple grade A assbags on the team who play to win and don't give a flying @##$ what people think on how they do it...we have a more than capable locker room to manage and maintain it...time for coaches and management to stop being a bunch of ******* and be old school football men...infuriates me to no end

Name a team that doesn't question the coaching after a loss. The wailing and gnashing of teeth now reminds me of after the loss in Hamilton. They rebounded after that, why don't we see what the response is before we all jump off the ledge?

  25. Dressler has been removed from the 6-game list. I wonder if he plays this week or takes one more to make sure he's good to go for Labour Day. If he's back this week, at least all the Lankford angst can stop.

  27. Biggie makes 190k..Harris 195 k..Nichols is a wash as is making on par what all starters do..actually less than Reilly..Collaros and Harris in Ottawa..Prob was less than Rickey Ray too. Also Wild is on the cheap..as is Dressler and Adams relatively speaking compared to most teams #1 and #2 players and we have only 1 guy even remotely close to what youare paying 3 guys on your d-line in Opo..and he makes less than any of those 3...money isn't an issue here...it's the managements blind thinking to go with who you break camp with...never a recipe for success..Cal Murphy was forever bringing in guys and changing mid season...as was Riley...both of who are the only guys that have won a cup here that most if not all fans on this board would recognize name wise....a big reason why Winnipeg has been able to reach the peak a few times over the last 10 yrs..but never conquer it...

  30. You toss him into a game or two...and make him work hinself off the roster and cut bait...or he makes it impossible to remove him...thats how....Lankford should have been the last resort in this equation...and even then I would probably split reps with Simonese and Peterman in that spot and dressed Flanders in the import roster spot as a non DI or dressed another import for free use on defense

  35. Lol....yup...as much as Jones has shown he sucks as a g.m he does one thing right..constantly brings in guys to try and upgrade what he has..tho some of the guys he kicks tires on are head scratchers. But..they lose a receiver..they bring one in..but we stay pat and recycle a 3rd yr guy with no upside..and really...somewhat useless for the role he is filling in our offence

They have a comfy lounge and restaurant and the Chef is awesome. They also have great pizza. But should out to Underdogs from that list for this:

  46. Hard to judge the DB's harshly given the amount they have Bighill, JSK, Leggett and Loffler blitzing on passing downs. They literally have no support under or over most of the time. That's why the back shoulder stuff and double moves are killing them. I'd like to see Leggett and Fenner both starting, one at safety, one at SAM. Play with a more traditional look. Less blitzing Bighill and JSK too. Use them more in coverage.

  48. Boston Pizza is criminally overpriced for the Pizza... the last time I ordered from Pizza Hut on Springfield I ordered 2 pizzas one with stuffed cheese crust with two toppings and the other a Hawaiian and it ended up being 50 dollars. In comparison at Dominos I can get 2 xls and a 2litre for 25 dollars and the pizza taste better.....
