CFL.ca 2018 CFL GAME NOTES WEEK #11 • TORONTO AT MONTRÉAL Game #49 MACBETH 2-0: 👁🗨Ha! McLeod Bethel-Thompson has started and won the last two Toronto games; he is one of only THREE Argos QBs to win their first two starts for the club in the last 30 years. The only others were Trevor Harris 2014-15 and Kerwin Bell in 1998. Only Trevor Harris and Gilbert Renfroe have won their first 3 starts for Toronto since 1972. Before 1988, you have to go back to Gilbert Renfroe in 1987, Mark Jackson 1980, Matthew Reed 1976, Chuck Ealey 1975 & Joe Theismann in 1971, and Tobin Rote in 1960 for consecutive victories off the top for the club. -327 QBs who have ever started at least 2 CFL games, only 119 have made it to 18 starts or the equivalent of a full season, 1 QB in 3. 👁🗨And no, these stats do not mean that these are only Bomber stats.. QB Starter Change From Previous Week: Overall teams are 49-69 .415 in those games where they were forced or decided to make a change from the previous week: - Consecutive 10+ point Toronto comeback wins: The Argos have won their last two games by overcoming double-digit deficits. In the last 26 years, they have accomplished that feat only 3 times: 2018, 2013 and 2010. The 2013 set was extraordinary as they overcame 10+ point deficits in 4 straight games to win each time. -1-19 in the last 20 games / 9 in a row at home: The Alouettes have won just once in their last 20 games. This 1-19 record in a 20-game span is the worst by any CFL team since Ottawa went 1-21 across 1988-89. Montreal comes into this week having lost their last 9 home games - the longest home losing streak in Montreal history and back to 1958 matches the 3rd-longest ever CFL home losing streak (Ottawa 1987-88: 14, Toronto 2009-10: 10, Hamilton 2002-03: 9). The current Montreal run is the only time in CFL history that a team has lost 8 consecutive home games by 10 or more points. - 1st half vs 2nd: The Argos have been outscored by a margin of -85 points in the first half this year; they are +3 in 2nd halves. - Stat to Watch - 1st Down Runs: The Argos trail most of the CFL averaging under 5 yards (4.96) per 1st down rush. Montreal is at the other end averaging a CFL-best 6.26 yards per attempt on 1st down. - Four in a row 500+ yards allowed: The Als have allowed 500+ net yards in each of their last 4 games. This is unprecedented in CFL history as NO team had ever gone 4 straight games before at that 500+ allowed level. Only three clubs before 2018 ever allowed even 3 games in a row at 500+ net yards (OTT 1990, BC 1992 & SSK 2000). - Recent Toronto Red Zone: The Argos have been amazingly efficient lately in the Red Zone. They went 7-of-8 over the last two games (88%) compared to just 3-of-7 in the previous 3 games (43%) - 44.5 points per game at home: The Als have allowed 178 points at Molson Stadium in their first 4 home games for an average of 44.5 per game. That is CFL record pace and ranked with the following all-time: Across the CFL, there have been 18 different QB starters in just 38 games to date. The A/T single-season record is 28 set in 2015.5 points -
Oh please the "whining" by Nichols is nothing. That's just frustration from a losing effort coming through. Guy isn't like that, just a heat of the moment lapse in his usual attitude.4 points

When I weighed 315 lbs & lost 120 lbs after & got down to 195 lbs . I know what shaming & teasing is all about. I lost the weight over a 1 1/2 year period from 2010 thru 2011. I kept the weight off for 4 years & thought I had my weight problems licked until I had to have foot surgery in July of 2015 & developed a serious post op infection with the titanium hardware that was inserted to reconstruct & fuse the bones in my right foot that had deformed because of arthritis. Without going into sordid details, a four month recovery turned into a painful 18 month ordeal of which 10 months was spent absolutely bedridden unable to walk. As well as 3 extended trips to the hospital when my foot infection raged out of control & I needed treatment badly. It took me another 8 months to be able to walk again so I could return to work. I gained a ton of weight back during those 18 months when I was bedridden & sedentary as now I'm disabled . For the first 6 weeks or so after surgery I went on a low cal diet to keep my weight down. But as time went on & the infection set in & being confined to bed then I became depressed & started to eat again. The weight came back. I now use a cane but can't walk very far, stand for more than a couple of minutes or do any physical activity anymore. It's a struggle to get back to where I was before my surgery at 215 lbs when I was active & could move. I weigh 273 lbs now. I am planning on getting on a healthier diet & head back to the gym in the next couple of weeks & start out lightly on the cardio equipment to see what I can & can't do. I am self conscious as all the guys I lifted with haven't seen me in 3 years & I know the reaction I'll get from some of them will be, "WTF happened to you???" I made some of the same mistakes Bob Wylie did & over the years my weight just kept creeping up. It took 25 years to get to that point. I went from 185 lbs at age 30 in 1985 to where I was 315 in 2010 & took action. It's a huge disappointment that I have to start over again but my comfort is I did it once so I can do it again. People were always making comments about my weight before I lost it. Some were trying to be funny while others were assholes. I know what it feels like to be shamed or laughed at & I never liked it. Trust me, when I say Bob Wylie has probably reached a point in his life where he thinks he can't change so it's a lost cause. We're about the same age. Been there. Felt that.4 points -
Regular Season Bomber News & Discussion
BigBlueFanatic and 2 others reacted to Firekid for a topic
There were roughly 6 second and long situations where the Bombers were called on a penalty which extended the drives. Over 20pts were scored as a result of it. Please don't give all that credit to Trevor Harris nor blame the scheme because I can guarantee the defense didn't scheme all those penalties. It was a complete disaster on the penalty side of the game....whether they were warranted or not.3 points -

Walls closing in on Don Trump.....everybody around him have no intention of going to jail for him, and they will flip away. The Cohen revelations this week, will be only a footnote, for what is coming down the pipe next. The money trail is going to be a particular problem for Trump, in terms of some of the real estate deals, (with Russians and others) and other financial maneuvering within his companies (and his phone-balony trust), that has been going on since the 70's Weisselberg currently runs all his companies, with Don Jr. and Kushner, on a daily basis, and has also done Trump's tax returns. He also manages the Trump Foundation. Between him and Donald's ole legal fixer, Cohen......a lot of sewage is going to rise to the top, in plain view.2 points -

CFL.ca CFL Game #48 Team Notes – Edmonton at Hamilton: - Coming off a Bye since 2011: Since 2011 Hamilton has had 12 games coming off a bye week but are just 3-9 .250 (including a 1- 6 .143 mark since 2015). Their .250 winning pct. in post-bye games is the lowest in the CFL in that time. Overall teams have played 107 times after a bye since 2011 and CFL-wide they have gone 61-46 .570 and thus have taken advantage of the extra rest. - Mike Reilly 300+: Reilly is tied for #10 all-time (with Sam Etcheverry) with 39 games of 300+ yds. He needs just 84 passing yards to go by Condredge Holloway (25,193) into #18 all-time and is just 25 completions away from 2,000. In 87 starts he is 51-36. - 1st half vs 2nd half: There has been a distinct difference in these two teams' results in the 1st half of games vs 2nd halves, especially in passing where 14 of Edmonton's 19 TD throws have been before half-time. Of Edmonton's 15 T/Os, 11 are in the 2nd half. - Hamilton Home vs Road: The Ti-Cats have relied on home field advantage more than any other club in the CFL recently. Since 2011 they have won 35 games at home vs just 24 on the road - almost 60% of their 59 victories. BC is next with 57% of their wins. Reilly TDs: He has 8 touchdowns thus far on pace for 16. The CFL record by a QB is 14 by Doug Flutie in 1991. Note: Jackie Parker had 17 TDs in 1957 but played only half of that season as a QB (8 starts at QB, 8 at receiver with 5 TD receptions). - Hamilton receiving I: Jalen Saunders left their last game in the 1st Quarter and did not return after picking up just one catch for 26 yards. Combined with Luke Tasker and making up their #1 & #2 receivers from 2017 (180 receptions in total), they accounted for just two catches last week. - Edmonton #1 & #2 receivers: The Esks can make it twice in 3 years with the CFL's Top Two receivers ('16, '18). That has occurred just 6 times since 1958. Winnipeg 1961 & 1971, Edmonton 1979, Calgary 1999, Edmonton 2001, & Edmonton in 2016. - Brandon Banks: Now has a 22-game receiving streak, 12 clutch 2nd down catches in his last 3 games, and 100+ yards in 11 of his last 14 games. Since Sep 4/17, he is the CFL's leading receiver with 1,677 yards over the 18 games since then: 1. Banks HAM 1,677 2. Saunders HAM 1,451 3. Walker EDM 1,450 4. Tasker HAM 1,074 5. Arceneaux BC 1,063 - Hamilton Offence #2: The Tiger-Cats come in with the #2 ranking for Net Offence at 403.5 yards per game in 2018. They have gone over the 500-yard mark twice already, something they did just once across all of the 2016-2017 seasons. The last time that Hamilton averaged over 400 yards per game was back in 2004 at 405 per game. - Sean Whyte up to #2 at 86.2%: With his current streak of 13 made FGs in a row, Whyte has passed Justin Medlock for the #2 ranked FG% of all-time. Whyte is now 288-of-334 in his career for an 86.2% success rate. Medlock sits at 316-of-367 86.1% and they both trail all-time leader Rene Paredes (327/375 87.2%). - Red Zone Defence: The Ti-Cats have stopped opponents 15 times out of 23 Red Zone chances, #1 in the CFL at just 35%. They have forced opponents into 6 Red Zone Turnovers, #1 in the CFL. - EDM last 4 games gap in Field Position: In the last 4 games, Edmonton opponents have started 12 drives inside the Eskimos' half of the field compared to just 4 by the Edmonton in the opponents' end. On average they have had to start at their 31-yard line vs the opposition's average start at the 42-yard line - a gap of 560 yards worth of field length. - Most penalized club: The Eskimos reached 1,000 penalty yards last week with their 6th game of 100+ yards or more this year. - 536 Net Yards: Last week Edmonton gained 536 yards of Net Offence, their most in almost 4 years since Nov 1/14 (550 vs BC). - J.C. Sherritt: Has a Sack in 3 of his last 4 games after getting none in the first 5 games. He now has 476 career Def. Tackles. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________1 point -

Reilly is not a mobile qb as he has had knee & leg injuries. He can evade the rush or roll out but he seldom takes off for a lot of yards downfield. He throws from the pocket. And you can't compare their receivers to ours. The Esks are light years ahead.1 point -

2014 was Mitchell's third year with the team. He had a very good handle on the play book before he ever got to play. The Stamps were 15-3 that year with a hell of a defense. They didn't need the young qb to have to out gun the opposition in the same way you need to this year1 point
-
There is the whole reading the defense thingy to consider. Coming in and running few plays on a limited playbook works good in the short term. Sooner or later you have to be able to stand in there and run the offense. Sandlot will not get it done once all the teams have film on you. I think this is a great young qb and I think he will be pushing for a starting spot by next years training camp. Right now, no way I would start him. Its still Nichols team. I wouldn't however let Nichols play all the downs, especially when he is sucking. Good way to light a fire under Matt's ass is sit him down when he is not performing to the level the team expects.1 point

We need additional OL help right now... if Hardrick is done for the season, I'd take Rice over Foketi talent wise If he's not, Rice is still a better option that Couture as a 6th OL and I really like Couture. Plus Rice is a max protect specialist1 point

How to beat Calgary Saturday
Fred C Dobbs reacted to Mr Dee for a topic
Offensively, I want to see us confuse Calgary’s D a little bit. I want to see more mixture in the packages that we show their D. I’m not suggesting we lose track of using Harris, but I don’t want them to know when he’s getting the ball. Guessing, I want to see them guessing when he gets it. I want us to come out early and use all our receivers when it is appropriate. Yes, all our receivers, including Harris. Make it an issue. This will open up the running game for Harris, and even Demski, and that fly route they love so much. LaPolice has got all the tricks in his bag, but he shouldn’t limit himself to a certain set of plays when, I think, this offence can be more dynamic. And that includes using guys like Wolitarsky, Petermann, and, if we have to..Lankford. Go from side to side, open up the middle, make Singleton go where you want him to go and exploit that. We’d be an even better team on offence if we’d be able to use a more versatile package. Mr. LaPolice, it’s your move...1 point -

If we are discrediting Nichols wins because of who he beat then how can you make Streveler seem better when the only team he beat is that sad sack Montreal team? He also lost to the same Hamilton team that Nichols beat. Listen I am a huge Streveler fan, I think the kid has all kinds of potential, but he's not a better player than Matt Nichols at this stage of their respective careers and the facts back that up.1 point -
