  1. Streveler will produce the same amount of passing as Nichols (thinking actual game numbers, not the last 2 minutes when teams lay off, or the 20 minutes of prevent he saw vs Ottawa). About 220-250 passing, but Streveler adds the element of running, both by design and out of necessity when plays break down. This has to be defended and opens up passes to backs because the LB's have to wait for Streveler, they can't pay too much attention to Harris leaking out because if they run at him, Streveler runs up the seam for 20. This offense with Nichols is just too easy to defend when he has no midrange game. and no hope of hitting a deep ball consistently. Now Streveler is young so automatically you worry about turnovers, but in reality he's been better at protecting the ball than Nichols thus far in 2018. I don't see a huge downside in terms of production. The downside is Nichols losing his mind and never playing for us again, but seems to be heading that way regardless. The guy is out of sorts.

At least if MOS gets fired at the end of the season he'll have had 5 complete seasons to build a winner. No one can say he didn't get a chance & we need to keep him for consistency sake. That is no longer valid.

Plap? Folks are blaming PLAP? Adams was wide open, behind everyone. A great aggressive play call. Excellent execution by everyone except Nichols. 1 yard deeper pass and it's a big play. 2-10 yards deeper and it's a TD. A turning point in the game IMO. We went away from the run because Nichols and Demski got stuffed by a very good Calgary defense. Anyone want to guess what would have happened if we kept running the ball? My guess is more of the same. Receivers got open. Nichols either missed them or didn't throw to them. That's not on PLAP.

  5. 2 plays over 20 yards. One involved Nichols. Completed 3 passes that traveled 10 yards or more downfield before garbage time. No run game aside from Streveler. Max Hall would have been disappointed with that performance.

MOS is 3-7 versus Edmonton and 2-9 versus Calgary for a record of 5 and 16. However it will be ok, let's all hold hands around the campfire boys and sing kumbaya.

  11. Yeah, but Bob is pretty much an angry sounding broken record on this stuff who has always focused primarily on pandering to Blue brass. I mean, how many times can you say, no excuse me, yell (as Bob routinely does): "Well, who does that?" whenever someone has the temerity to suggest that it might be time to try something different than trotting out Nichols, again and again, until the game is out of reach. Yes, the D ended up giving up a lot of yards today. But only after the O s*** the bed again and again and again. The D held a very powerful offense to 12 points until well into the 3rd quarter. What was the time of possession? Yardage stats? It has to have hugely favoured the Stamps...you're only going to hold BLM and Dave D. in check for so long. Your bloody O has to do something. So, to Bob's question: who does that? Well, Wally Buono does that. Chris Jones does that. Rick Campbell does that. All have "done that" (i.e. pulled the starter) in the recent past and all have won Grey Cups. What's the definition of insanity, according to Einstein? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That's what we did with Nichols again today. Putting Streveler in would qualify as something different. I mean, what's Bob's solution? Answer: Just keep defending Blue brass' stubborn stupidity? Just keep endlessly repeating "who does that?" I mean, how's that philosophy working out for us?

  12. C'mon Goalie, if he doesn't get this ship turned around he may go down with it. Season 4 1/2 & counting. This team is about as far away from a Grey Cup as it was in 2016. I see no improvement. I don't see this team going on a late season tear. Coach is not managing the roster well at all. Team is in tatters. He is on the hot seat & if he isn't then something's wrong.

  13. They've worn Harris out this season, by depending on him more than is reasonable, or physically possible for a human being. Just beaten him down with the amount of their offence he was contributing.

    1A and 1B Quarterbacks

I'm normally a huge supporter of the starting QB until they've proven otherwise and I think Nichols might be on the cusp of accomplishing that for me. he looks either hurt or in a funk without any light at the tunnel. hes always been a game manager QB and needed to be on point to have success.. something has knocked that awry. Before the season becomes a write off, I think we would benefit big time.from a concept like this. it worked pretty good in a few previous instances in BC with Reilly and Lulay/Jennings and further back with Maas and Ray.. it has the potential to both spurn on Streveler to be better and to kick Nichols in the ass to be better or lose his job.. the season is getting to a very close breaking point and if our offense doesnt get back on track, we are sunk with how our defense has been.. Will the coaches go for it?? Doubtful as Oshea is stubborn and loyal but I really hope we see Nichols with a shortleash and Streveler off the bench if struggles continue at the clip that they have been.

There was nothing wrong with the pressure in the first half. But then Calgary schemed to add more protection, which put the onus on the secondary.

  24. I have not watched todays game yet, but when I went to the game against Ottawa he had wide open guys and the time to make the throws to those guys. He was not seeing the field at all. His mobility wasn't very important.. it was him not seeing a guy wide open on his 2nd or 3rd read on the passing plays. When Streveler came in late in that game he made way quicker decisions and tossed balls to guys who were open or to guys hitting their route with the defender unable to make a play. I'm not saying bench Nichols, but next game if he's struggling why not put Streveler in a series or two to see if he can jump start the offense. If he does then leave the guy in the game, if not then at least you made an effort to shake things.

  26. I’m not going to freak out and join the “fire everyone” bandwagon but O’Shea and Walters need to have a long hard talk about whether Nichols is the future of this club. Their final determination will decide for me one way or another whether I have faith in them.

  27. The first one was a horrible throw he made a great effort to make it close. Not a drop at all. The third was also way behind and to the wrong shoulder into the defense.

Man, I have to say Lapolice was the goat today. I know fans are going to be merciless on Nichols again with some of the sacks and the pick he threw, but I blame some of this on Lapo. Good lord what is this predictable run on first down and leave Nichols in 2nd and long all the time crap? Why do you wait until late in the game to call a tempo offense and in between then squeeze the play calling down instead of open it up? Lapo, you can do better than that I seen you do so, but today .... Sorry you're in the dog house.

  32. Matt "Not my fault" Nichols tried to throw his receivers under the bus in his post game interview, but was short, so they'll all forgive him. Mike "I have to look at the film" O'Shea is really happy that he kept Richie "Scapegoat" Hall in the off season, cuz now he has someone to blame at the end of the year. The best play of the game was when Streveler threw to Ryan "How do you like me now" Lankford for the big TD.

  34. I don't if anyone else has noticed but where the hell has our return game gone....Special teams were supposed to be a spark that ignited this club....that part of our game has dried up...along with a few other facets...Every other team possesses a game breaker on returns while we struggle along with whatever O'Shea throws in...The more I think about this coach the more I think he should be gone...The luv in with the players can only take you so far but you need to have some grey matter to go along with that...It seems like everything has worn thin with Mike and if we miss the playoffs it'll be sayonara

  36. Oh, the TSN panel roasts Nichols for saying on CJOB that no one was getting open during the game. Especially Milt who said if he was a receiver should he go to the media if he was always open & Nichols wasn't throwing to him? Dunigan just said Nichols needs to keep his mouth shut. Looks like there are fractures in the locker room. Coach em up. Mike. Good luck with that.

  37. We were playing better football during the first three games of the year. I remember when Willy was replaced, the fans were making it clear they had enough. When a coach refuses to correct the play calling of his assistants he could also find himself sitting with the fans

I still maintain that a lot of the continued weaknesses come down to roster management and less so recruitment. How many guys are rotting on the practice roster (Flanders, C.Washington) while Lankford and Wild are on the field. I mean how is Wild on the field defending 2nd and long when you’ve got Fenner playing only special teams?!

  41. We've seen how we stack up against the best in the East and West the last 2 weeks (both blowouts losses). It's pretty clear that we can't compete against the best. I don't know what the answers are but I know that doing nothing shouldn't even be an option.

  44. I really appreciate all Nichols has done for the club but he has not been good this year and seems to be getting worse. Not sure if its physical or mental. As for my comments on MOS, just frustrated by much of what he does and his tendency to be arrogant at times, when to me he's done nothing to justify it. I'm not saying fire him now but if the season goes south, something to consider.
    2 points
  45. I don't think he's had the team ready to play the last two weeks, I don't think he made the right call at DC to start the season, he didn't make adjustments during this game, something that is very common, he left Harris in and he potentially got injured, all on Mike O'Shea. Don't throw the blame entirely on the team, when you are a part of the problem.
    2 points
  46. Agreed but what's Bob's solution...You also can't sit on your hands after that disgraceful effort
    2 points
  47. O-line is not as good and Nichols has zero escapability. The poor passes are mostly on Nichols, not Lapo....never had a great long ball but it is worse this year. Nichols has options on every play...it's not a set play to throw the ball 5 or 6 yards when the team needs 9. He has options out there beyond the first down marker, but he either doesn't want to make those passes or he is incapable of it.
    2 points
  48. Disagree, two went right through his hands and the other (long bomb) though under-thrown, went through his arms, all 3 very catch-able and what you would expect your #1 guy to come up with in a big game.

  49. Funny reading that article a few days ago in which Hall said the defense was heading in the right direction. Anytime the Bombers face a good QB it seems like an automatic 350+ passing yards given up by the defense. Mitchell just set a personal record with over 450 passing yards. Sure doesn't seem like it's heading in the right direction.
