It shouldn't rest on a coach's decision to challenge. The refs represent the league. It's not that hard to have a ref watching for this. Have the eye in the sky key on this. This is an issue of brain damage, not first down ball spotting. The hit on Lulay was sickening. As are all of these head shots. Also.... the NFL ejected a player on the weekend for a head shot. Why can't the CFL figure out that's a good idea? The league is doing better with this, but needs to do more.

At some point we need to realize that officials work in real time, often in the line of fire. After having the opportunity to do the extensive review the opportunity to fine becomes more realistic and practical.

Do we need one though? Fogg is fine as a punt returner and I don't think we suffer too greatly on kick returns. A returner to me is a luxury item that isn't a high priority to acquire. receivers are much more important right now.

I think the situation in Calgary is very different from Winnipeg. Yes, we needed a new arena but the economics of the league and the soft dollar were really challenging the Jets, and all Canadian teams, at the time. Finding an owner who was willing to take on the financial risk and, likely, loss was impossible. Now that economics have been resolved, via the profit-sharing salary cap, this is about owners taking on minimal risk while getting a brand new arena (economic driver). It's about getting more for less. That being said, I don't think either team is at risk of being relocated. I could see an ownership change in Ottawa but then Melnyk would not get the attention he does now. The only way he sells is if he cannot keep the cash flow positive and the league pressures him. I can't speak to the economics of the Calgary situation but it would appear as though the owners have bad timing. When the economy in Alberta was booming, Calgary was expanding like crazy, building tons infrastructure (public and private). I'm not sure if it would have been more palatable for the City to pay a big portion of the a new arena or if the population would have always been as resistant as they seem now. Maybe some of the Calgarians on this board could provide insight.

I actually love it. And I liked it immediately. I know all the twitter people who think they're sports experts are tripping over each other to bury it but its a simple and sharp design. Its a third jersey, not a new primary jersey. The Heritage Classic is awesome. Using it for the third jersey, however, doesn't afford the Jets an extra design for marketing. You can see its inspired by the original WHA logo (they had the word mark with the swoosh underneath in a round coke like circle and a simple wordmark logo that had a Jet-like swoosh as the cross over the T). I find it really clean and sharp and I like the blue.

Classic Nichols game. When O'Shea talks about how he's won lots of games, I think of this one, and many others where Medlock kicked 7 field goals. Game manager Matt would have been okay over the last 4 weeks, but it's still the same stuff he's been doing for a year, and not enough to win us football games against good teams.

Quebec City is much more francophone / xenophobic / anti-English then Montreal. I think Montreal could hire a non French coach without everyone rioting... Nordiques on the other hand it would definitely sour the fans to a point where they would boycott.
