  3. Except that Strevler's TD to Lankford was essentially a trick play on short yardage. Any QB could make that throw. Not hard to find the receiver with one DB out there.

It's been happening for awhile. My brother was squeezed out of dairy 20 years ago. He'd received an award for having the top 5 milk quality in the province the previous year, but since he only had a 40 cow herd that was pretty far from the next nearest farm they pressured him to get out of the business. Told him he needed to build a new barn (at least a million dollars back then) or he was out. I am very much in favour of the idea of supply management, but I fear that the capitalists have taken over the industry.

  6. Wash your mouth out with soap. Wild is not comparable to Hurl at all. Wild is and was a damned good player. Only reason he isn't a starter is cause Santos knox took his opportunity and ran with it. He is great depth cause he took a discount to stay here.

    Hey, Bombers

Not worried about the D, only worried about the offense going full Lapo. You never go full Lapo.

  8. Kulikov/Dano/Lemieux pressboxing it. 1st Period 1-0 Jets pretty strong but STL came on at the end. 2nd Period No scoring. Either Helle is playing good or STL shooting badly. 3rd Period Lowry shorthanded breakaway 2-0 KConn out of the box to Wheels Trouba shoots and KConn tips 4-0. 3 goals in 3 minute. Not too shabby. My fave player Tanev makes it 5-0! Moments after I said STL could not put the puck into an empty net and its 5-1.

QUICK SLANTS - CFL staff Blue Bombers: Drew Wolitarsky has 501 yards this season. The last Winnipeg rookie receiver to go over 500 yards was Chris Matthews in 2012. Weston Dressler’s reception streak is now at 122 games and last week he moved up to 704 catches. He needs three more to pass Rocky DiPietro (706) for 12th all-time. After securing sacks in nine of his first 10 games, Charleston Hughes cooled down from his torrid start, not recording a sack in three consecutive games. He recorded his first sack since Week 12 on Sunday versus Montreal. Johnny Manziel last week threw the ball just 16 times, the fewest by any CFL QB to play a complete game in 2018. Of his 16 passes, 10 were thrown deep downfield including his first two TD passes (20 yards to Ernest Jackson and 47 yards to Adarius Bowman). Roughriders quarterback Zach Collaros passed for 394 yards against Montreal. It marked the first time Collaros has passed for over 300 yards in Rider green and the first time he reached the benchmark since Week 4 last season. Winnipeg won a big game in Edmonton last week. Mike Reilly passed for only 164 yards in the game, marking the first time Reilly did not reach 200 yards since Week 10 last season versus Saskatchewan. Reilly was held without a touchdown (passing or rushing) last week and has a total of 39 (27 passing, 12 Rushing). Reilly is still on pace for 50 touchdowns and is seven rushing TDs short of tying the record for the most in a season with Mike Pringle (19). Reilly is four touchdowns short of surpassing his career-high (30) in a season. Argonauts quarterback James Franklin has rushed for 12 TDs this season and is currently tied with Reilly. New Brunswick native Mike Miller leads the league with 16 special teams tackles and now has 154 in his career (No. 12 all-time). He has at least one special teams tackle in 88 of his 136 games (65% of his appearances). In his last four games Alouettes veteran linebacker Chip Cox has 34 tackles, which moves him up to number four all-time with 961 tackles. Note: CFL tackles were counted officially starting in 1987. Ottawa’s William Powell has six games where he has rushed for 100+ yards this season, the most by any player since Jon Cornish had six in 2014 and nine in 2013. Justin Medlock has now made 53 converts in a row from 32 yards out. He has also made 135 of 136 convert attempts. Brad Sinopoli reached 1,000 yards for a fourth straight year, tying Ottawa’s record set by Tony Gabriel from 1975-1978. In their last three games, SJ Green and Armanti Edwards have 38 catches for 482 yards and two TDs combined. In the three games before that they had just 14 receptions for 268 yards and 1 TD collectively.

Marchand is repeat offender and should have got 10 games. His feelings were hurt so he can sucker punch someone? Wilson shouldn't be on the league but is. The guy should keep his head up but that doesn't give you a green-light to headhunt him. Things are changing because we know more about the effects of concussions. Don't know why we would want it any other way. Domi should have gotten more for sucker punching Ekblad. Why on earth would you want some scrub sucker punching a star in this league?

I met Bill Frank when I was a teenager (many many years ago). He lived on Scotia St and my family lived on Smithfield Ave in West K. I think he worked at one of the marine dealerships in Winnipeg as he always had the best boat on the river. My best friend lived a few doors down from him and we always hung out on the river. Bill came by one day and gave us a ride on his boat. That thing was fast and he created a wake that probably took out a few of the old docks along the river. I also went to school with his son. I think it was Edmund Partridge but for the life of me I can't remember his son's name.

  16. If the Bombers are down at halftime, and the offence stagnant, do we see Streveler? Or is O'Shea going to act like the rest of the season hasn't had major issues and just lean on the fact that we've won the last 2? im hoping Matt has a breakout game and shows some major improvement, but I think we can all agree that we've been waiting for that to happen all season, and it hasn't.

  17. Agreed, need to take care of things on our side before looking at how other teams help us. I am looking forward to see how our Defence steps up against a completely different animal in the ALLCAPS....

  18. and any receiver could have ran that route and made that play...I am a bit shocked that it was Lankford out for the pass as of the receivers on the roster for that game..he was by far the least reliable hands wise

  19. I will say too if we can pull this off, it'll make the Edm-Ssk game on Monday a win-win situation. If the Esks win (which I hope), we can still knock the melonheads out of 2nd place and take it. But if they win, it'll put us up a game on the Esks. But anyway, not to worry about that yet until we've taken care of business in TD Place.

  20. I'm not sure about that he pissed PoMo off. I think he suits that line. As the season goes on, I bet they get more and more time until they're rivaling Little's line.

  21. This game, at least to me is just too hard to predict. Which Trevor Harris will show up? Can our DB's handle the Ottawa wide outs and slots (they are very very good)? Can we stop Powell? Can they stop Harris? Just too many variables to think about. The one thing that does concern me is mistakes. If the game is close and comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes, there have been times in the past when we have played the goat and made the most mistakes etc. Too many penalties etc. I see it as a very close game with the team that makes the fewest mistakes coming out on top.

  23. I'm actually not bothered at all by our defense being the catalyst for winning in place of the offense because I've felt if they would have stepped up in the playoffs the last two years, we might have won or at least gone to the Grey Cup instead of finishing one and done. We gotta keep the brick wall in that side of the ball up and thwart the oncoming attacks. I'd like to see our DL continue to go on a tear and get pressure up in T Harris's face. Make sure he's errant in trying to get the ball to Sinopli, Ellingson and Spencer. On the offensive side of the ball, Lapolice needs to call more play action mixed with quick out passes on first down to get Matt in rhythm.

    Hey, Bombers

Definition of going full lapo. : any of a certain number of non-aggressive plays designed by a Canadian Football League Offensive Co-Ordinator Paul LaPolice. Generally considered to be a thorough play designer guru, the term indicates the unwillingness to use an entire playbook in favour of safer, more restricted play calling. Using this basis for game calling in the CFL has led to predictability by opposing teams and frustration for the team’s fan base. The offence shows signs of being divergent and effective but that is often only a tease and reverts to lapoism. Kind of like the “hit the gopher” game. Shows up - then disappears.. *There may have been liberties taken in this definition and it may be hard to find in any known dictionary.

Nah, Thorpe is the DC. You can see it on the sidelines with the enthusiasm he shows when his defense makes a big play. Nelson meanwhile coaches linebackers & is safely ensconced up in the coaches booth upstairs far away from the team below so he isn't a distraction.

  32. Agree on the stamps stuff. Best move for claybrooks is to hang out for a fist full of years and soak it in. For a guy like him it makes no sense to me to jump to a bottom feeder team rebuilding, or to a team like us that wont dedicate the time and resources like in a rebuild.
    1 point
  33. So would I based on experience. My problem with Claybrooks is that he is recently retired. Shorter than Steinhauer. Yeah, it's been about 5 years but I think a quality coach has to gain experience coaching not only with his own team he's with but with others as well as Steinhauer has done. Claybrooks is with a top rate team as a Stampeder DC with literally a genius running the show in Hufnagel. He's a born executive, knows how to build a winning organization & to be honest how good would Claybrooks still be once he leaves the confines of the Stampeders? I think it would be a hard adjustment for him going from the Stamps to even a team like the Bombers that have a lot of the building blocks in place. he's also been recently diagnosed with diabetes which is a life changer. can he handle the stress of being HC so soon after dscovering he had the disease?

Thompkins had a huge game against Ottawa if I am remembering correctly.... which is a big if... Okpalaugo/Nevis need to dominate against Gott/Lauzon-Seguin early - get Harris off his game Nichols needs to play clean football... Redblack have a lot of mobile DL - Nelson will drop them back early and then put some real pressure on in the second half

I remember that block distinctly and thought it was BS that it didn’t count. However, they have since changed that rule and now that attempt would be counted as a fail. It’s not finished yet.. As follows: CFL Rulebook ... After reaching 29 in a row in 2013, Rene Paredes had one BLOCKED on July 20, 2013 by Montreal's John Bowman. By the rules of the day however (and that had been in place since 1967), no FG attempt was charged to Calgary since the ball did not cross the line of scrimmage. Paredes went on to extend his streak to 39 straight. The CFL changed the rule to start 2014 whereby any FG attempt that is blocked results in an 0-for-1 since a legal FG attempt was clearly attempted and was NOT successful. This rule will be re-visited in the 2018 off-season by our Rules Committee however with the proposal being that only the TEAM be charged with an attempt and NOT the kicker himself in these cases.

  40. I'm not sure if mos is salvageable or not. I do not believe we are in a position to go back to a first time cfl/pro head coach though. The franchise cant afford that major step back. And I don't know what we could possibly do to get one of the few HCs that would be a clear upgrade.
