Streveler as our starter in 2019

they are both under contract next year and if Streveler is handed the keys to the offence...or wins it outright in TC we are still paying the same amount for our QB's regardless what order they are on the depth chart...so cutting Nichols would be crazy dumb and still has great value off the bench or as the back-up if Strev faulters...or gets hurt as he plays a physical game....it's 2020 when you have to make the hard SMS decision...not next year It would be in the teams best interest next year to say the position of the #1 QB is up for grabs...whoever performs best in TC...You go with until they faulter...5 points -

Let me get this straight.. You're blaming the loss on a 23 year old QB who came in cold and threw a single pass, not on the expensive vet QB who hadn't even thrown for 100 yards before the last 4 minutes of the game? SMH!5 points -

Realistically if Nichols is going to be a productive QB moving forward with limited mobility he needs to work on speeding up his reads, relying more on pre-snap and speeding up his release, preparing to beat a blitz/solid pass rush. Lapo did not help this problem either. We run the slowest developing plays.4 points -
he would be the perfect 6th guy if we can replace him on the corner..can play corner..half...has played sam...returns punts and FG's and on cover teams..pretty versatile and valuable guy to back up..4 points

bonafide number one receiver and as been said...keep Adams..he would thrive as a number 2 and not have all deep focus on him... agreed on a corner...though not necessarily at expense of Randle...but he has to earn his spot next year..he is signed for 2019 correct? and we need an explosive returner who can play on offence..not some one trick pony DI ...4 points

Getting rid of Nicholls without knowing what you have in Streveler. Is like quitting your job before you have another one. You may have grand illusions that you'll find your perfect job right away but if you can't you usually end up taking jobs that don't necessarily like until the perfect one comes around.4 points -
Bering present in the stands maybe I saw it differently than on tv... - Medlock scored us points but that one punt in the 2nd quarter that went almost straight up, and bounced back towards us didn't help (and the next drive cgy scored 7)... completely changed momentum. - our secondary couldn't stop a wet noodle in a paper bag. BLM was able to get 20+ yard plays all night long - our O-line wasn't giving matt as much protection as he needed - CGY's Secondary and DB's had their game of the season IMHO. We have lots of positives to build off of. Some great talent on our team, but the main diff is CGY has experience and it showed. Our first time in the "2nd" big game in years. Maybe the curse of the visiting team? No massive rebuild next year. Fill some gaps and give Streveler a bit more experience but otherwise keep on trucking. Keep it up and we will be fighting for 2nd/1st for the next few years.4 points

Who cost us the game, a young QB that missed one throw or the QB that couldn't generate any offense to speak of whatsoever?4 points -
Let’s get real. Bombers had no business being in the western final. Prior to playoffs, Riders lost their starting QB to a no-call dirty hit. Bombers got fined for no-call rough play, and a headshot on back-up QB in quarter final versus Riders. During the Semi-final versus Stamps numerous missed calls by the refs gave Bombers an uneven playing field. Otherwise, it would have been a rout. Riders, in spite of being only three years into a rebuild, continue to outperform the Bombers. Two teams going in two opposite directions....just the fact. Kindest regards.4 points

Why do I come here after a loss?4 points -
The controversy is that people will continue to defend Nichols regardless of how many embarrassing performances he puts up. This Bomber team was really good at almost every position but Nichols was routinely below average and frequently abysmal. It’s the attitude of blaming the rest of the team and not holding Nichols accountable that keeps us in perennial mediocrity. You cannot win it all with a QB like Nichols unless literally everything else goes right. This isn’t how you win with regularity in the CFL.4 points

If we got the Matt Nichols of 2017 we’d easily win the Grey Cup this year. We as a team were good enough to win it all and stood up well against Calgary but Nichols didnt play well enough. Simply put.3 points -
The quote I heard on the radio from Nichols was "That wasn't championship caliber quarterbacking"... which implies to me that he is taking some level of responsibility for it.3 points

I think people are really underselling the Calgary D they are healthy again. They are the best group in the league on all three levels. They are back to early season form when through what was it the first six games they were giving up 8 points a game. Ottawa will be lucky to get 20 points.3 points

Unless we sign Mike Riley, Matt Nichols is going nowhere and will be the starter next year and people really need to get used to that. He didn't have a good game yesterday, but neither did anybody on offense really outside of Andrew Harris. Even the Run blocking, which was good most the time, also screwed us over on a couple second and shorts. Calgary had perhaps the best defensive game I've seen in the CFL in decades and unfortunately had to be against us. I'm as deeply disappointed as anybody as a fan, but there's a lot of positives to look forward to next year, and we beat the Riders in their own building in the playoffs. It's nothing to sneeze at.3 points

Streveler as our starter in 2019

I said after the game. Streveler will finish 2019 as the bombers Starter. I dont think he will be named starter out of TC, but probably 5 or 6 games into the season. Nichols has done admirable with his time here. And I thank him for helping turn this franchise around. The Bombers need to take the next step, and I dont think Nichols can get them there. To clarify, I don't think Nichols goes anywhere. He will be replaced, but still on the roster and maybe play. But I see Streveler taking a big step forward next year and getting more starts.3 points -
Streveler as our starter in 2019
ddanger and 2 others reacted to JuranBoldenRules for a topic
The best thing I can say about Nichols playoffs is that he didn’t turn the ball over. We don’t win in Regina without Streveler and we had no offense in Calgary. Nichols did very little to affect the outcome positively in either game. All season our offense was hugely reliant on the defense turning the ball over and creating great field position for them to score touchdowns. They had a terrible time putting together drives. I’d offer Nichols an incentive-laden contract mostly based on number of starts. If he refuses, cut him. Nichols will not get any better, he’s lost a lot of mobility and doesn’t have the poise or arm to make up for it.3 points -
If Nichols thinks he played fine today......then he is delusional. Not a lot of poise in the pocket at all, today. But in case, anyone thinks I am picking on him alone.......receivers had problems getting open, our OL certainly did not dominate, LAPO came up with one of the most tentative game plans, I have seen from him......and the GM never addressed our holes on KR and receiver opposite Adams, all year.... Guess I about covered it. Disappointing on a lot of levels....3 points

Medlock - pretty much the only reason we were on the score board Harris - I hope he's got more in the tank for next season. Deserved better play calls Jeffcoat - a big sack early set the tone for a strong defensive effort. Pressure on BLM kept us in the game longer than maybe we should have been, HH - Simonise for picking up our biggest offensive play of the game, and the Bomber fans in the stands for repping our team in hostile territory.3 points -
There is no way I want O'Shea going anywhere. They haven't won a Grey Cup, but they have been consistent winners and you would think eventually they'll break through for one. The Bombers (recent historical) problem has usually been that any coach with some success gets dumped pretty quickly when he fails (Berry, LaPo) and then we realize that the replacements aren't nearly as good as we thought (Kelly, Burke). O'Shea has led the Bombers to three straight winning seasons, which makes him the most consistent head coach since Dave Ritchie. Richie Hall should stay too, assuming he still wants to work. The fans who hate on Hall haven't updated their views from last year. This defense was really, really good for most of the year. They played such a good game today and deserved a better fate. In comparison to last year, they pulled the offense along for wins this season. I could go either way on LaPolice but I'd prefer to move on. The CFL is so slanted towards offensive success that if you're not putting up a decent amount of points and passing yardage each week it should really concern you. Nichols falls into that same boat. If we had even a decent quarterback today, we win the game. The fact he was throwing balls into the dirt even when Calgary was playing prevent defense should eliminate any lingering doubts about him.3 points

Nichols misses Adams in the endzone. Nichols misses Harris in the flats with no one around him. 1st and 10 and no one around for a mile and Nichols hops around on his toes then doesn't take off until its too late even though he had a lane you could drive a bus through Mitchell had pressure in his face and got the ball out into the hands of his playmakers. Nichols didn't even give anyone a chance. The onus falls on him3 points
