  1. The Diversity Is Strength campaign is one of the best things the CFL has ever done!!! Players and fans all loved it. By far the highlight of Ambrosie's reign.

  2. Like they politicize the NFL at anthem time? I love this campaign and know others who do as well. Nice contrast to the hate and vitriol and phoney patriotism we see down South.

  3. It's already by far the best in the league, with Neufeld in there. He was outstanding in 2018, AND stayed healthy, to boot....... The "Neufeld Sucks" line is old, tired and no longer relevant.

  4. It's not even about politics. It's about being a decent f*cking human being! Diversity is what makes our country so amazing and our league is a reflection of the country as a whole. Let's celebrate what makes us awesome!

  6. Any negativity toward the DIS program stems completely from a cynicism that is at least SOMEWHAT a byproduct of not wanting new immigrants into Canada. I'm not going to straight up use the R word to describe anyone on this board, but Canada is better for our multiculturalism. It's part of what makes us a desirable nation to live and work in.

This is a good example of why 'wins' is a team stat. In the first game of the year, it was defensive mistakes that lost us the game. They put almost 500 yards of offense up against us. In the last game of the season, we didn't start Adams, Dressler, or Chungh. Harris lasted 3 plays before he was pulled. Lankford was our kicker. To blame the QB for that loss is ridiculous. A conspiracy theorist would say that they wanted Streveler to lose so their'd be no QB controversy. I say we just rested our best players for the playoffs. I'll give you that Nichols is a halfway decent QB. I'd have no problem keeping him if he wasn't due $450K next year. That's too much money for halfway decent IMO. This isn't the Kevin Glenn situation. The coaches and fans have a pretty good idea of what they have in Streveler. His biggest knock is his lack of experience and the only way to get around that is to give him playing time. Short of injury, that isn't going to happen with Nichols around.

If you don't think Trump is racist, then what do you have to to say about his refusal to rent apartments to people of colour back in the 70s? What about his insistence that the group of black and brown men accused of raping and murdering that white women were guilty all these years later, even after they were exonerated by DNA? Anyone who claims he is not racist is lying or willfully blind.

Think Nichols gets back to his 2017 level. Really believe he can throw for 5000 yards 30 TDs if he is healthy for the full season.

Manafort lied to Congress to protect Trump. And Trump values loyalty above all else. Remember that nauseating "staff meeting" where Trump had everyone go around the table in full view of the press showering him with all sorts of compliments rather than doing any work? Trump craves adulation and will praise those that stand by him. I read an opinion piece on CNN (take that for what it is worth) that although Manafort lying appears on first blush to hurt Mueller and protect Trump, the fact that Mueller knows he lied and will read in the scope of those lies at his sentencing tells us that Mueller already has the dirt on Trump, and doesn't actually need Manafort to make the case, but basically caught Manafort in a lie based on the solid evidence he already has. I am waiting to see if the Democrat-led House subpoenas Trump's tax returns now that they have the power to do so. Forget Russian collusion, I think that this is the way to expose Trump's dirty business, showing how he has profited personally off of the Presidency/. But why do I feel like the Dems once again will not go to the places the GOP goes to in politics because of some outdated notion of "compromise" and "fairness" and moral superiority, when winning is all that matters in Washington.

  17. I think he has an opportunity to go to the NFL though. But, if he's not starting here, there is no way the NFL is coming for him. I believe his time down south is done.

  19. Trump is so transparently terrified. There isnt a single person of any note, minus Trump, who thinks Mueller or the investigation is anything but above board. If Trump was innocent, he'd be praising the investigation because the assumption would be, it would clear him. Imagine trying to destroy the credibility of the people investigating you while knowing you did nothing wrong? How would that even look, if they cleared you? He KNOWS he's going to be screwed. Its slightly surprising he's so obvious because it IS so obvious. He's panicking.

throwing for 4136 yards his senior year at a 65.7% completion rate with 32 TD's to 8 Int's tells me he has no issues hitting receivers...also 11 TD passes in as a raw rookie vs what...5 INT's...tells me he can hit a receiver if open...no? Also his running..or threat to will open up the pass for him big time if plays constantly....a guy who can throw, and was 13th in the league in rushing in limited time this year is a very tantalizing thought..I'm not saying he should be deemed the starter as of now...but he should be given every opportunity this spring to show he is "not" the starter yet... What I see out of him is Tracey Ham like stats in the late 80's and early 90's...30+ TD's...4000+ yards and 800 to 1000 yards on the ground...numbers with a solid to upper level defese equates to a lot of wins

  21. Nichols missed a wide open Adams on a designed and practiced play in the same game, when it mattered most. He's got 6 years more experience, was warmed up, wasn't throwing his first pass of the day or his first pass in a playoff game. Gotta hold the vet to a higher standard than the rookie.

  25. The concern for me is precedent.....it's a slippery slope once we start becoming less focused on Canada and OUR league. I didn't like it when we started focusing on America in the 90s and I don't like focusing on Mexico now. The idea of mandating a Mexican player on each roster makes my stomach turn. Not because I have anything against Mexico, but because I want this to remain OUR league, and the sole focus be about Canada and OUR game. I've long been a proponent of increasing mandatory Canadians when most would prefer to see more Americans. I personally watch CFL because of the CanCon...I want to see us put a greater focus on our country and our players.

Connecting with the next generation is really important, as the average sports fan is aging, and there's fewer people coming up behind them to take their place. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-sports-with-the-oldest-and-youngest-tv-audiences-2017-06-30

  27. Let's not forget, an area that the CFL knows that it struggles with in terms of marketing and ticket sales, is with first and second generation Canadians. Highlighting the diverse background of the CFL players is part of an overall marketing campaign to grow the brand. But as @Jpan85 said, the timing was changed due to outside factors.

if we're looking at numbers... the one I'd like to point out is, when the cards were on the table, and it counted most: 46.9% & 156. 80+ of which we're in the last couple drives when they finally tried to go downfield. Nichols has been playing the dink & dunk since 2016, and his stats have largely been propped up on the shoulders of Andrew Harris. No other QB in the league relies so heavily on their RB as a receiver, and once the league adjusted and started spying Harris, Nichols passing production tanked. The fact that people want to point at the winning record of the team and say keep Nichols because of it, to me, aren't really seeing the big picture. Nichols has operated a dumbed down offence that's built around Harris. A more mobile QB with a stronger arm opens up what LaPo can scheme, and I think that's what needs to happen next year. If Nichols can't operate a more wide open offence, then he's not the guy.

  30. It was a reaction to what was going on at the States at the time. The murder in Charlotte & the riot as well as the NFL players kneeling. To me it was an Eff You to the NFL. And to Trump. It wasn't done for any other reason than that. I wouldn't put the CFL on a pedestal saying we're better than they are. The situation with Canadian qbs who are constantly discriminated against. There's still bias in the CFL. And I would argue that it wasn't the CFL that allowed guys like Bernie Custus to play qb up here. It was Canadian society. It allowed the open door policy of the CFL at the time. As far as racism against blacks here in Canada it still exists. Just ask anyone who has grown up in Halifax with the history of said racism in Nova Scotia. And there is still systemic racism against aboriginal groups in Canada. It has existed since white settlers first settled in Upper Canada in the 17th Century. Anyone who thinks we're better than the States is naïve. I'm just saying that we act so damned superior about racism in this country comparing our selves to the US when we aren't much better ourselves. The Diversity Is Strength is a great attempt at self aggrandizement by the CFL. Fine, it sold a lot of tee shirts. Congrats, Randy. Now fix the Canadian qb situation.

  31. The good ones cost the same. Someone like Stanley Bryant wouldn’t cost any more at his peak if he’s Canadian, he’d just have a longer career because he’s Canadian and harder to replace. The mediocre Canadian guys who can stick on rosters are the guys who are overpaid.

Who's playing who? All that talk about Mueller boxing him self in, with Manifort So, Mueller lets Manifort toss his Hail Mary and feed info to Trump..... then lets Trump answer the written questions, based on what the Don and his lawyers, thought he had. He now has Cohen - the legal fixer, under lockdown plea agreement. Mueller had Cohen originally convicted under the State of New York so Cohen cannot be pardoned by Trump. Mueller also has the CEO of the Trump organization talking. Between those two, he will have the paper and electronic trails and tapes on a whole bunch of sewage, under the lid. Having already plead guilty to a slew of federal crimes in a separate case in the Southern District of New York in August, and also implicating Trump in the nondisclosure-payment schemes. Only way Cohen can avoid the ole 3 hots and a cot, for the rest of his natural days will be spilling his guts and making sure that Mueller gives the sentencing Judge the high sign. Cohen admitting to lying about Trump’s Moscow property plans, including his plans to travel to Russia and contacts with Russian officials in connection with the project and how long the property plans were discussed within the Trump Organization.....is just the very first tidbit, of a 100 LB "nothing burger" Lost In all the talk about Flynn, Manifort, and Cohen.....is the 30 hours of testimony to Mueller from Don McGahn, the ex-White House lawyer, that could become real problematic. He was in the rooms and involved in a lot of the conversations about firing Comey, the attempts to have McConnell backtrack his recusal, deep six Rosestein impede Mueller, and attempts to misuse the Justice Department for political purposes etc, etc. Muller is somewhat like an an Anaconda.....moves deliberately, but ends up squeezing the life out of you.

Streveler and Nichols are both iffy at the deep passes right now. I like Streveler and his tool set a hell of a lot, but until such time as he 100% surpasses Nichols on the depth chart you don't throw out your proven starter who has won more games here than anyone since who? Khari? That's just asking to go back to being a **** team.
    2 points
  36. Actually...the times he actually struggled and the offense bogged down a bit was when Streveler seemed reluctant to run, or was told to keep looking for the pass...not sure which it was but were many instances where he could and should have took off...but didn't....They just need to let him play his game...and let the plays develop as they may...stop harnessing his runs. Do this...and the pass opens right up as guys will cheat and drop off all the time because it is already known he is a beast to bring down, and also once..or if he gets to the second level he is gone for huge gains as he is very fast and hits top speed in an instant...check out some of his college runs...unreal
    2 points
  37. Huh??? I've never heard that before about Streveler...you're really going to hold one pass against him? (Dont worry about him hitting that play at least 2 other times this year....) A green as could be rookie playing in his first semi final?? Lol. Streveler needs more time. Nichols will give the team the luxury of allowing him to develop at the right pace. I'm still certain that Streveler will be the starting Qb instead of Nichols by week 5 or 6...and he will finish as the starter come November 2019. He doesnt need years. He needs reps. I remember when they signed him and he made the team, everyone was talking about his size and speed. Except Lapo and Oshea...they spoke about his mind. The kid is very smart. That's what has and what will speed up his progress.

Streveler was 1-3 as our starting qb as a counter point. GIven how long it took to find a halfway decent qb (nichols) why are you people so god damned dumb as to think it's just easy to find a new qb? Mike Kelly thought that way, look how that worked out. Until Nichols got here we were still trying to replace Kevin Glenn.

  43. Time to sell high on Neufeld. Sign Chung and Goosen and trade Neufeld for RJ Harris and picks. You have to create an opening for a guy like Gray. To me he was better the day he was drafted than Chung was the day he was drafted and also has a higher ceiling.

  46. I don't necessarily hate Lapolice, and certainly I would be concerned about getting stuck with another Crowton or Bellefeuille here if he was gone. I think he is a mostly good OC, but he seems to have trouble forming good plans for big games. This happened in the 2011 Grey Cup when his offense kept sputtering, and it seemed to rear its ugly head around again in Calgary. Stamps have a good defense, but Lapolice seemed to do very little to try and catch em off guard. Nichols may never be a great QB, but I feel like Lapo could have done more to give him big play throws out there.

In today's Freep, Doug Brown rated Matt Nichols and the bottom line is that Nichols rates somewhere between the 5th and 7th best in the league and, along with an upgrade at receiver, one of the two areas needing the most improvement for the Bombers to take the next step. I agree with this but we also need a kick returner that causes butt puckers in the opposing cover team.
