  1. Unless someone were to hire Lapolice, in which case he automatically was too good for Winnipeg and we were fools to let him get away.

  2. You have to understand TBurg logic. Lapo is a Bombers staffer therefore he sucks and no other team would seriously consider him for a position. They don't call Wpg "The Ol Resume Stain" for nothin, you see........ /TBurg

  4. Pretending that Demond Washington wasn't a good player? Fogg is what he is, he's a versatile guy that can wear a lot of hats. He may not be the absolute best cover guy out there, but he is OK and has a knack for turning the ball over as well as the ability to be a returner.

If you ask me, it's both. People who think replacing Nichols with Streveler (which i am very in favour of, just not for this year) is going to mean a huge uptick in production are probably going to be disappointed. That being said, people who think Nichols doesn't hamper us a little bit are also wrong, in my opinion. I feel like Nichols has some weaknesses that don't really lend themselves well to being hidden in a Paul LaPolice offence. Streveler's ability to introduce an extra level of motion into our offence, along with his legs that are a weapon unlike anything Nichols has to offer, could be exactly what we need on offence. That being said, we also have no hope in hell if we go into next year with DA as our number 1 receiver. If it were up to me, I would go after two American receivers - one to replace Dressler's role and one to bump Darvin down the pecking order. Darvin is an awesome receiver, he's just not the #1 guy on a team that asks their #1 guy to essentially do it all himself. Pair him up with a Chris Matthews, Bryant Mitchell or a Greg Ellingson? Absolutely. Dream scenario for me next year (and let's keep in mind I don't claim to believe we could come even remotely close to affording this under the cap without either a huge boost in the CBA or a deep cut somewhere else) would be to see us trot out Harris, Adams, Wolitarsky, Mitchell, Jalen Saunders and Simonise. Throw Adams and Simonise out wide, use Woli/Bryant/Saunders in the slot and you'd have the potential to be the most prolific offence in the league. I think our best case scenario is signing one of Saunders/Mitchell. Sub out Diontae Spencer and Chris Matthews/Greg Ellingson if you want. TL;DR we need some new ****ing receivers

  9. As we settle in for the long off-season, and add another year to the futility chart for no Grey Cup championship, I thought a little winter project may keep things interesting. So I propose to create "the definitive" list of the all-time greatest Blue Bombers by position, as voted on by MBB members, covering all 89 years of this team's existence. Each week from now through April, we will focus on one position and decide who are the best all-time Bombers at that spot, completing the whole team as we enter training camp for 2019. The team will be position-specific, so rather than, for example, picking 3 middle linebackers in the "linebacker" spot, I will focus one week on middle/inside linebackers and one week on outside linebackers. Same will go for slotback/wide receiver rather than just "receiver", safety/halfback/cornerback vs. "defensive back", and fullback and tailback vs. "running back". Also, where a player may have excelled in 2 areas, you are only to judge their merit for the position that they are nominated for that week (ex. Charlie Roberts could show up both as a running back or special teams returner, but when voting for him as a returner, do NOT consider his contributions as a running back in your overall estimation of him, and vice versa. Same would go for Rod Hill - ignore his special teams ability to block punts when considering his abilities as a defensive back, and if a kicker did both punting and placekicking, analyze each facet separately rather than their overall impact). Because of changing offensive and defensive philosophies, I am going to expand the team in a couple of ways. On defence, rather than deciding between a 3-4 or a 4-3 defence, I will pick 2 inside/middle linebackers and two outside linebackers, and also two rush end/linemen and two interior linemen/nose tackles. To balance this on offence, there will be a tailback, fullback, slotback and wide receiver position, but also a #5 receiver position to account for the newer 5-1 offensive set. The defence will be chosen first, then special teams, then offence, and finally coach and GM. I will try to dig into the archives so as not to omit any candidates, but I may miss a few, so send in a nomination either as a response to this message or as a PM to me, and I will include that person on the list and try to highlight their accomplishments for your consideration .Then everybody votes and the top vote getter (or two in some cases) will be on the team. We will start with the cornerback position. You can nominate any cornerback from any era from today up until this Friday, and I will compile the list. On this Friday (December 7) I will post the nominees for people to vote on, and the following Friday (December 14th) the voting will close, with the top 2 vote getters being selected. Also this Friday (the 7th) I will open the nominations for defensive halfback, and that list of candidates will be open for voting on the 14th, and so on. The order will be: Cornerbacks (2), Defensive Halfbacks (2), Safety (1), Outside Linebackers (2), Middle/Inside Linebackers (2), Defensive Ends (2), Defensive Tackles (2) Place kicker (1), Punter (1), Returner (both punt and kick) (1), Special Teamer (includes long snapper, special teams tackler, or punt block specialist) (1) Centre (1), Offensive Guards (2), Offensive Tackles (2), Wide Receivers (2), Slotbacks (2), 5th receiver (#3 vote getter in Wide Receiver vs. #3 vote getter at Slotback in a special head-to-head runoff vote), Fullback (1), Tailback/Running Back (1), Quarterback (1) Coach (1), GM (1) Hopefully this piques people's interest, and gets us through the snowy season. So off the top of my head for Cornerback nominees, I would suggest, in alpahabetical order: Roy Bennett, Juran Bolden, Less Browne, Rod Hill, Jovon Johnson, Reggie Pierson, David Shaw (believe he played corner), **** Thornton. Not on this list because I THINK they played halfback were Ken Hailey, James Jefferson and Ken Ploen, but I stand to be corrected. I cannot think of anyone else who jumps out at me, but I am certain that I have forgotten someone (and please be mindful of the distinction of cornerback vs. halfback - if I have made an error let me know!). Keep sending in suggestions for nominations and I will create the voting list on Friday. I promise future postings on this thread will be shorter.

  13. Anyone who wants to throw out Matt Nichols now must have a very short memory... Let me tell you about the story of a man named Kevin Glenn... hhe once patrolled the line of scrimmage for the Blue and Gold... while not the most prolific passer in the league, he produced wins and gave the team a chance... Then one day an intrepid young traveler by the name of Michael Kelly rolled into town and proclaimed "I possess the next great CFL QB and I will toss aside this productive, yet underwhelming, QB in his favour"... and then the Bombers proceeded to toil the deserted island of misfit QBs for the next 10 years... meanwhile this former "not good enough" QB continued to have success at every stop along the way... Moral of the story... while I agree that Nichols may not be a superstar.... he is the best option we have had since Mr. Glenn and we should absolutely not get rid of him until we know, unequivocally, that we have a better QB ready to go...

  14. or you know you could look at all the other times I also said that he's not a #1 and things of that nature. Fact is that Adams sometimes dogs it. He coulda had a touchdown in the west final in Calgary if he hadn't stopped running. Fact is he's a great guy to have as your #3 receiver, probably OK as your #2 behind a real star, but if he's your best guy you ain't gonna be successful enough.

  15. I don't think it matters. He didn't have a realistic chance of getting an offer anyway.

  19. I mean, he did get some pretty nice production out of a young Jennings in 2015 and 2016. He's a better OC than some give him credit for, IMO. That doesn't necessarily mean I think he'd fit with the current personnel on offense here, though.

but a team with 3 Darvin Adams' would be very successful in a receiving corp..hard to gauge value and production when you don't know what the scheme or calls are...he is a nice #1 but not a true game altering receiver, but pair him with one, and I bet you see his numbers really balloon...as he was a guy who was second in receipting touchdowns with 10...on a team that had a weak deep game, and sub par passing scheme...and also I believe led the league this year in 30+ yard plays believe it or not..so he isn't chopped liver by any means...just needs a stud running mate to open things up for him and Woli

  24. Yeah, pretty sure the Argos wouldn't bring him in if he had to chance. It's incredible how much knowledge and football expertise there is toiling away on this site, not earning a paycheque in the CFL. A real untapped resource.

  25. Clinton was definitely charismatic and had a unique charm and ability to relate to the common man. He could take difficult concepts and explain them in simple terms. And he was likeable. Hard to compete with that. I still remember after the Gulf War SNL had a skit called "Democrats try to decide who will lose to Bush in 1992" or something like that and it featured all of the front-runner Democrat candidates explaining why they shouldn't be nominated, as it was so obvious they were going to lose, badly. Boy did that not work out. https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/democratic-debate/2859836 if you can get around the Geographic blocker...I think that this is the skit...

  26. In Khari's defence, in BC he had a brittle quarterback and a porous O-line, and in Montreal, he had even less to work with. No guarantees anywhere, though.

No he said he was lazy and did not give enough effort which could be further from the truth. If he had had gotten 30-40 more balls thrown his way to match Williams targets he would of been only a few yards behind him.

I have felt that way for a while too... my biggest reason is that he absolutely cannot win contested balls... they call them 50/50 shots.... Derel Walker wins them at a 90% rate... Darvin wins them at a 5% rate (that might be generous)...

To be honest, I've never been convinced there will be a gotcha moment for Trump. I think Mueller is respected enough that he will go after whatever wrong-doing he can prove but if he doesnt have it, he doesnt have it. And he wont nickel & dime Trump. Its possible Trump will be insulated enough or the worst things will be "we know it happened but we cant reasonably prove it beyond doubt". But...we shall see.

  31. Well it's unlikely we're going to find a super experienced offensive coordinator if Lapo goes anywhere so names like Pierce or Dinwiddie would obviously be options. I still think Khari is fine as an OC, he's just never been in a really good situation. I'd give him a shot but I may be biased.

  32. I can tell you from living in Calgary that the Stamps were devastated they lost both years. I think even more in 2017. They definitely saw it as failure.

  33. Both Calgary and Hamilton had to deal with their receiving corps being decimated.....Calgary still managed to win the GC....Hamilton should benefit with a HC with a greater understanding of the Canadian game and an OC that can focus on offence.

  36. Unlike Harris, Collaros, Manziel, Franklin, Jennings... and to some extent Reilly and Nichols...? Masoli is as legit as you can ever hope for - BLM doesn't show up everyday June Jones literally lost games that Masoli had won... they're a good OC/QB team though

  37. now that the Stamps have released Mathews to pursue NFL interest, Walters should be in his ear letting it be known that if it doesn't pan out...he has a pail of cash waiting for him and the opportunity to be "the guy" in the offence....he more than showed he still has it, and would be a huge difference maker

  40. In a game of that importance, your quarterback ought to be at least one of the stars, and Nichols was not. That is not good.

  41. In a defense designed to generate turnovers Fogg year after year is among the best at generating turnovers. Fogg would be a great replacement for Loffler. To me Alexander, Fogg, Gaitor, Sayles are a pretty good core of a secondary. The way those four play you can slot them in anywhere. Randle is declining but if he takes a paycut I'd keep him around.

  42. That's Nichols level praise right there.

  43. For anyone to suggest that we couldn't have beat the Riders in that game with even Bennett behind centre is nonsense. Nichols did not "win the game". He threw for just over 150 yards and handed the ball off. Gotta wonder how Harris feels about Nichols potentially making twice his salary next season when all Matt does is ride his coat tails!
