Bomber News: 2019 Off Season
Eternal optimist and 9 others reacted to wbbfan for a topic
Yep. Its a cruel cruel world. not long ago mo and randle were two of our best, and the leagues best defenders and dbs. Today they are both out of work and could be out of football. Randle was such a monster for us, and he came here at a time that FA vets didnt come to winnipeg. He was here through some awful days. He is a big part of what we have today, both in terms of class and quality. It doesnt last forever, and it never lasts long enough. I wish the best for him in football and in life.10 points -

Bummed to hear about Randle being cut loose. Him coming over from a perennial contender was big when our franchise was still in shambles. I’m a big fan of his and sorry to see him go... was so sure he’d be a part of the next Blue Bomber championship roster 😢. Wish him nothing but happiness and success.6 points -

He was an amazing Bombers rep for a long time (by pro football standards) and I am so glad we were able to see him play for our team, but he'd definitely dropped off. This is a real Wally-esque move, cutting a guy just as he's starting to fall off. Also, if there's one thing Walters and co can recruit, it's DBs. I have full faith in them to have several candidates in camp...6 points -
Unfortunate but not overly surprising as id imagine hes making good coin... And if we are being honest.. Has likely lost a step. Randle Island was visited quite frequently last season.6 points

YEAH...totally agree..I think he re-signed for like 80..or 90k..pretty good value for a guy who kills it on teams...can long snap...and start and be very effective..also...a ultimate team guy and leader in the club house and a longer tenured veteran here...if he wants to come back on same type of deal...you take him back...Christ he is only 29 for the upcoming season so not like he an old fart...and probably one of the better conditioned guys in the league4 points -

Yeah I dunno if it's one guy repeating the Wild needs to go to save money schtick or if there are multiple people who keep saying it, but Wild at the restructured deal he took is absolutely 100% worth having around. Guy is good on teams and a very capable backup (hell I still believe he's a quality starter) so why in gods name wouldn't we keep him since he wants to play here so much he is taking a cheap deal.4 points -
Yeah Randle will catch on with another squad undoubtedly. Really sucks about Mo, however. Dude was an absolute game changer4 points

SUCKS to see character gys and true pro's as well as great ballers have to be released, but so is the business and game that top teams need to do this, and once the worth is less than the value you are getting, decisions have to be made. He will definitely catch on somewhere and kudos to the Bombers for allowing him more time to do this before free agency. Hopefully this is the evolution of our management team as well in being more Wallyesque and making the decisions as a players best before has started to show, as opposed to before where we held on far too long..wasting valuable SMS money that could be re-allocated elsewhere. Cornerback is the easiest of the linebacking/defensive back spots to fill in the CFL with American talent as the learning curve is pretty much nil, so not too worried about us covering that position with a cheaper option and using the extra money we would have payed to Randle toward a JSK/Biggie/Jeffcoat3 points -

Democratic House can subpoena the report. They can also have Mueller testify under oath up on the Hill. Also, in this particular administration.....the odds of somebody leaking the report to the Post or the Times is pretty high2 points

Speaking of doubling down on stupid, how will Fox spin this: Trump says he ‘never said’ Mexico would pay for the wall. But he did – a lot https://globalnews.ca/news/4833557/trump-mexico-border-wall-write-a-cheque/ ... “I said they were going to pay for it — and they are. They are paying for it with the incredible deal we made called the USMCA.” In fact, in October 2016, during the height of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump released a document called “Donald Trump’s Contract with the American Voter,” in which he said Mexico would “reimburse” the U.S. for the “full cost of the wall.” In a separate plan presented to the Washington Post during the campaign, he suggested he would cut off access for Mexican immigrants who send money home to their families until Mexico made a “one-time payment” of billions of dollars for the wall. (The plan was regarded as likely illegal, the Washington Post reported.) ...2 points -

Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming Randle made $135k in 2018, including bonuses, and was set to make more in 2019. For reference Fenner, who only got 3 starts, was at $130K according to 3DownNation, Still one of the top guys statistically. Ted Wyman @Ted_Wyman #Bombers have released veteran cornerback Chris Randle, one of their best defensive players for the last few years. Lions coach Devone Claybrooks told me he thinks Randle is the best boundary corner in the #CFL Maybe he's gonna be a Lion next year.2 points

The senate will get their heads outta their asses before Trump backs down and they'll get funding without needing the president. They're just playing stupid games with people's lives right now, but you take away people's paycheques and they get angry and angry people vote assholes out of office pretty quick, they won't want to risk that. Can you imagine if in 2020 the Democrats won the senate and the presidency to go along with congress all because Donny Shithead wanted to build a wall? Republicans everywhere would lose their ******* minds.2 points -

John Hodge reports that Randle was making ~$150k/year. https://3downnation.com/2019/01/09/what-chris-randles-release-means-for-the-bombers/ I guess it makes sense to free up cap space and try to find someone for less. But it still sucks. A sad day in Bomberland.2 points -

Love this logic: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cnns-jim-acosta-mocked-for-accidently-proving-that-border-walls-work “Jim Acosta just posted one of the biggest self owns ever,” social media strategist Caleb Hull responded. ‘He's walking along the border where there's a wall in place talking about how there's nothing that ‘resembles a national emergency situation’ and ‘there's no migrants trying to rush.’ That's because there's a wall, Jim.” Reminds me of: and fox news be all like:1 point -

This particular law with DUIs is at the federal level, though. Canning the city's police chief wouldn't solve or change anything. This waste of resources is happening across the entire country. I'm all for improving the state of local law enforcement but I think this has to be addressed at the national level for it to improve. Well, that's a bit of an oversimplification. Recruits are also required to take rigorous training and pass said training before actually being given a badge. I don't think a post-secondary education would make a difference. I do agree on the OT being overly exorbitant, though. It's not at all a sustainable system.1 point -

This one stings a bit for sure, but I'm not all that surprised. I suspect he still has a few all star seasons a head of him though. Solid player his entire career here even after a bad injury. This is the crappy part of the business. Saying that, if they're making moves like this, they better ******* pay off!1 point -

They can override the veto if they get 2/3 support in both Chambers. No way the GOP does that. Reference: override of a veto - The process by which each chamber of Congress votes on a bill vetoed by the President. To pass a bill over the president's objections requires a two-thirds vote in each Chamber. Historically, Congress has overridden fewer than ten percent of all presidential vetoes. https://www.senate.gov/reference/glossary_term/override_of_a_veto.htm1 point -

But did he play $150k well? I'm not so sure that he can attain the 2017 level again. We'll miss his presence in the dressing room, I believe, but I think we have some new leaders emerging. Bighill would go a long way to improving our leadership.1 point -
