Exactly what he tweets every day. Economy great, historic lows on unemployment, all-time high number of people working, great trade deals, America first. But dangerous times, fake news, media unfair coverage, caravan crisis, border security including a barrier, need to come together to open government with a sensible plan to reduce crime, secure our borders, keep out drugs, and protect Americans without playing politics. There'd be no chanting "Build the wall" or "lock her up:" from his rally cronies, but the sycophant Republicans would jump up every few sentences to offer a standing ovation. Don't imagine Democrats would stoop to heckling and badgering the Commander in Chief in that venue during his speech, for fear of looking petty. Base would be energized, opponents would be unimpressed, media talking heads on both sides would offer their partisan takes in round table opinion forums, actual news would not be reported. Shutdown would continue, 800,000 would still go without paychecks. Lather, rinse, repeat.

  5. I assume LaPo is making close to $300,000 as the highest paid coordinator in the league, under the new coaches salary cap how much more could the Riders afford to pay him, $400,000? For that pay increase it does not seem wise to step into a fevered hornet's nest where the end result will most likely lead to an eventual firing to add to his resume. I can understand but question if his desire to be a H.C. is more important than anything else in his life and he has unfailing confidence in his ability to perform miracles without a solid QB. As it stands he gets to continue his work with the highest scoring offence in the league, push for a legitimate shot at a G.C. and go home every night to his 3 young kids and wife. You won Paul, you won.

  6. I actually believe Lapo really did want that job. He owns a home in Regina, and (for some reason) really enjoys working there. I truly believe he was really angry, but I also believe he's a true pro and is back to being excited about the upcoming season. He was posting some really nice stuff on Twitter yesterday about how great it was to have Mike Couture back in the fold this year...

  7. If the Bombers are smart, and Streveler shows more improvement and progression this year, and that he can run the offence then Walter's should be in his ear late in season saying that they will extend him for 2020 as the starter, and once season ends at some point move Nichols for whatever we can get, or outright release him if he doesn't agree to restructure as a veteran back-up

  9. Lapo doesn't own Streveler nor does he handle Bomber contracts, and I am sure when Walter's talks to Strev about an extension, and if (from what it sounds like) he wants to make the CFL his career for the foreseeable future then he will be extended/locked up prior to the end of the 2019 season. No way..shape or form does lapo leaving in the winter of 2019/2020 signify that we will lose Streveler...also as stated...the Riders will not hire a place holder in hopes of landing "their guy" next year..it would be a detriment to anything they want to build in 2019

  10. About the only thing that Jones did very well was being a brilliant DC. He was an average HC, and below average GM. Without him their that defence falls to middle of the pack in the league. Without HUGE offensive improvement they are not a playoff team this year. They all know it too, Rider fans won't admit that they look to be basement dwellers if they don't hit a home run in HC and QB recruitment, but their angst over the whole Lapo things proves they are hiding a huge amount of worry over the coming season.

  13. Halfback Mack Herron running behind Offensive Guard Larry Slagle during the 1972 CFL season in a game in Calgary. Herron at 5'5 could literally disappear from the view of defenders charging into the LOS. However, don't let his diminutive size fool you. At 185 lbs he had legs that looked like tree trunks & was surprisingly powerful. With a low center of gravity he was difficult to bring down. In 1972, he was the leading rusher in the CFL with 1,527 yards & 11 touchdowns. He was runner up to Hamilton's Garney Henley for the CFL Most Outstanding Player.

  15. Well, I hear that Lapo is steaming mad. He plans to sulk and deep six the Bomber O, this season, out of spite. . He is also going to forgo personal grooming and wear Green and White on the sidelines in protest. Paul plans to frequent Lyle E. Style's bookstore, and post regularly on RF, to get out his side of the story. I know all this...because unlike Rider fan information....my sources are impeccable.

  19. Football is a game of angles and trajectories. You don't have to be huge to excel. A combo of good wheels, anticipation and good vision can make up for a lack of size.

  20. You assume that the reference was to the Rider O-line. We could have been referring to disgruntled fans when their quarterback fails to win every game. Or they might dump a load of Regina gold on his lawn.

  22. Decent article. Has some valid points regarding set dates coaches need to abide by. I think the irony in all of this is that this ALL started with Jones bolting from EDM to Sask which caused the league to take action. Now he volts again and Sask cant get what they want. https://www.tsn.ca/cfl-s-policy-on-coaching-hires-needs-a-tweak-1.1246634

  28. If they sign their new HC to a one year, dead duck, contract they can kiss any chance of retaining/ recruiting FA's or a QB this year. Might as well hang the forfeit sign on the window, refund the season ticket holders, and tell the league we'll be back in 2020. You don't throw the season away because you couldn't get permission to interview a guy.

Trump can still deliver the State of Union as he is required to do. He does not need to make a speech, he can deliver a written document. But, that would deny Trump the opportunity to stand up front and repeat his lies and hate speech.

  31. Really not sure how this going to work if they bring in a outside guy to run the defence. They brought in so many guys that were more athletic freaks rather than more technical guys. Might be a rough transition for a guy like Bene.

  36. Lapo has been around long enough to know how this game is played. Especially given the coaching cap and the amount of damage his knowledge could provide, with him on another team, this year. Paul is a pro...... he is not going to cut off his nose to spite his face, in terms of his reputation (publicly sulking or anything that would prevent from putting the best O on the field).... no matter whatever Rider fan fantasies are out there.

  37. I stand by my speculation that Walters and O'Shea put themselves out there as the bad guys so that LaPolice would not be seen as refusing to go for a head coach interview in that steaming mess in Regina. That would be a class move by Bomber brass to save LaPolice's rep.

  39. I can't imagine they are going to let guys walk away, I'm sure the team has made offers to both Goose and Chungh and it's going to come down to another team offering them more cash then what we can afford. If the team is desperate for a receiver they could always sign Duron Carter lol

  40. You mean Canada's team is not allowed to do whatever it wants? How dare you.

  41. The league needs to create stability within the teams, they can't allow coaches to jump around like monkeys between trees just because that's the way it was done in the past and they despise wearing collars. If it needs to be reduced to one year contracts with no outs for all assistants, so be it, the league should seek stability and not allow teams with more pocket change to wreak havoc on teams that have been managed well. Turns out the Riders "plan" was in the possession of just one guy and he just walked out the door with it.

  43. What if they don't even bother to interview McAdoo? Seems to me that might create a bad vibe in house, he is the one Jones anointed Asst. Coach and of course Jones isn't responsible for any of the mess he's left behind. 1-2-3 BOLT!

  44. So the Bombers said no to the Riders on LaPolice, and according to RFs LaPo is pissed because the Bombers held him back. The Riders just interviewed Dickenson. What if they tell him no?

  45. I enjoyed it over-all. Thought it came across fully baked as opposed to last season's early episodes that were clearly hampered by the change in show runner. The one thing, the show will always be hurt by the lousy premise that Michael started the war when she really didnt. That was something they just were never able to make right last season. Better to move on and forget it. The negatives: - Portrayal of Sarek. I think the writers' reverence for the character hurts the portrayal. He was always portrayed as cold, emotionally distance and a bit of an *******. But we see none of that. What was good about TOS was the moments that showed us he was more than that (his obvious love for Amanda, his confronting Kirk over Spock's katra, his approval of Spock's friends etc) were special *because* of how cold he was. The JJ films made this same mistake. Its almost like they're trying to retcon Spock's issues with his father from Sarek to Michael. We really need to see some more coldness from him. - Humor. Dial it back just a bit. My advice to them is, ask yourself if a professional military would behave that way before airing a "goofy" scene. In particular Im talking about Tilly's first scene on the bridge where she compliments....was it communications? And then back and forth on the pods. At least on the pods, Pike interjected to tell them to knock it off and they did (similar to STID where Spock & Uhura were bickering during an important away missions but they ignored Kirk's order to knock it off). - Pods. Yeah....I know some fans are raving about it as an exciting sci fi scene. I sort of glazed over a bit. But Im not a fan of adding crazy elements to something for dramatic effect...like in STID when Kirk & Khan are hurtling themselves through space from one ship to another and have to hit a tiny little mark...thats not dramatic enough so add in asteroids. Same thing here. A bit too insane. But not bad...just, hard to care about for me personally. And you knew the blue shirt (ha!) was going to die. Positives: - Humor. Other then above, it was well done. Tilly is very charming. Dont force it. I didnt mind her interactions with Pike either but I would have liked a scene or line where she expresses admiration for him so that her super awkwardness was a bit more grounded. But the episode was long. She's an ensign on command track. He's a legendary Captain and who happens to be heroic, charming & handsome. Perfect foil for Tilly but I'd like to hear it. We KNOW he's a legend because of canon but Tilly would be the perfect character for us to see through her eyes. Almost have her say "everything is going to be okay. Captain Pike is here." - Cinematic feel. Amazing. It looks and feels like a movie. The SFX are top notch. The wide screen is great. How it's directed. Cinematography. Everything. Star Trek has never looked so good. Oh and more traditional sound effects were added too...the background ship sounds and the door swoosh on Enterprise etc. Also seems the space shots have been toned down as far as the overly blue, foggy look goes. Looks more like traditional Star Trek (rendered by modern SFX). - Acting. Pike has been a great addition. The rest are top notch as always. Even when given little to do (Stamets) they hint at a lot of depth. They just have to reconcile how the senior bridge crew have so far done little compared to the stars who mainly arent bridge crew. And it seems they will by giving the bridge officers more to do. Some good actors there too. They love love love Michelle so she's here to stay (especially with her own show coming).
