Still think the biggest losers of deadline day were the Riders

I was so young and naive when I posted this.

There were reports they hated to lose him. Felt his leadership was significant. they gave up virtually nothing. If he's a good cheerleader, if he takes some pressure off Wheeler etc, then its an easy deal.

Last time they got a Grey Cup game awarded to them I got roasted on pretty much every forum for standing up to the Pollyannas who proclaimed how Regina "deserves" it. Wrong, wronger, wrongest. You only "deserve" it if you can host both the event and the people who go to it in the manner in which it deserves. A GC in a small-time setting is a small-time GC. And the last one held there was like a local event and nothing like a celebration of Canada and Canadian Football.

That above tweet doesn’t make sense. You would think Robert Vanech should be paying the league for not having his name associated with this undertaking. At the very least...wait to see what happens with the AAF before pulling out the ‘sue’ card.

We have a young locker room he seems to be playing way below the level that they should, his veteran presence may kick some guys in the ass enough for them to take a step up. Well worth the price IMO.

Prior to today, we were very young, much younger than last year (Stastny, Hendricks, Enstrom, Mason all replaced by younger players) Now with Hendricks back and the addition of Hayes, we have more mature team. I think overall we had a decent day, and we are a better hockey club than we were yesterday. Last year I was speaking with some business associates in Edmonton, and they were saying how much losing Hendricks hurt their team, as they lost a "go to" guy in the locker room. They went on to explain that while McDavid is a phenom on the ice, they also needed that locker room guy who's been through it all to talk to. The NHL is full of guys in their mid-twenties with the pressures of that age, compounded by the travel, fame, and public recognition. I don't know how a 28 year old, expecting his first child, could go to a 20 year old captain for off-ice advice. It can be tough to go to a coach as it is a bit of an admission that you aren't handling things well. A seasoned vet, who isn't the captain or star player, can provide some sage advice for real life problems. I think the Hendricks add, given it's low cost, was a good one.

Yes, Muzzin would have been very good. Didnt get him. Lemiuex is cost-certainty for years. But the Jets have other players like that. If (big if) Hayes signs with Jets, then this deal was an absolute no-brainer. If they make it to Cup final and hayes leaves, it's still an easy trade to make. This happens every year. You dont trade valuable pieces when you're a contender just because they're UFA's. if Myers played for someone else and the Jets traded for him as a rental, we'd all think it was a great move. if they lose him for nothing in the off-season, its like losing a rental that cost nothing. The plan today is to make the team better, not worse.

Exactly my thoughts too. Like Lemieux's fire but the more I read about Hayes the more I like the sound of this deal. Let's just hope he can develop some chemistery with the guys real fast.
