  4. Excited about this Eli kid. I mean it sucks to lose Chungh and Goossen but to replace them with three seemingly high level prospect in Eli, Gray and Desjarlais is exciting.

  6. I dunno, I have never at any point been concerned about our OL going into this season. If Couture isn't ready to start, they never would have kept him around this long. I also think Cody Speller is a lot better than people realize. I think Geoff Gray is extremely talented and has the potential to start at RG right now, and if he's not ready, Manase Foketi definitely is. I have absolute 100% faith in Walters/Lapo ability to protect the QB because they haven't given me a reason not to trust them in at least 4 years...

  8. I don’t know why people keep bringing up Loffler. He gained his all stars by reputation. He was good in his first year but sub par in years two and three. Sure he’ll make you pay over the middle but he was slow and always a step behind in coverage. Jones is excellent in coverage and even if he isn’t 100 percent Hecht is more than adequate to start If he needs to.

  14. 100 percent. I remember when we had to over pay veterans to even consider signing with us. I’m loving the way this team looks. Lots of depth, good Canadian starters, and a ton of play makers on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately a good football team will lose good players. I get it, players have to make a living too but when they leave another team for more money rarely does the team get the value for what they’re paying for. I’m glad we’re on the other end of the spectrum like a team like Calgary instead of a team like Montreal.

  21. I think we keep developing Bennet. He’s experienced now and there are things that could happen this season which could lead to Streveler being the starter next year and if that happens I want a 2nd string qb who’s experienced.

  22. Lol I like in TBurg's world whenever we lose a player that guy was playing at his absolute peak and prime and that any new guy who replaces him cannot at all have a higher ceiling. Wild , Leggett and Fogg are easily replaceable and were all done. Nichols was crap last season and at least was looking better as the season went on. Apparently Streveler has no chance of taking the next step and is completely forgotten. Loffler was extremely mediocre for the last 2 seasons... is he a huge loss? The only spot that we really took a step back was at o-line and it's not like they don't have a plan to fill that void.

  24. I can see these 9 teams in groups of 3. The top 3, the middle 3, and the bottom 3. These teams as Zamperin has slotted seems about right, with only final positioning to be determined. Rick Zamperin: Stampeders and Alouettes at opposite ends of CFL power rankings The season’s first CFL power rankings. 👁‍🗨From here on in, it only gets more interesting. 1. Calgary Stampeders. The defending champions are not only No. 1 by default, they still are going to be a tough out in 2019. There are a lot of changes on defence but with QB Bo Levi Mitchell — a two-time Grey Cup champion and last year’s Most Outstanding Player — still chucking the ball, the Stamps remain the CFL’s top seed. 2. Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Head coach Mike O’Shea may employ the most balanced roster in the league, but at the end of the day the Bombers will need quarterback Matt Nichols to make the jump into elite level status to challenge for a championship. 3. Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Orlondo Steinauer is the new head coach in Steeltown and he inherits a talented team that may have the clearest path to a division title with Ottawa undergoing a facelift and Toronto and Montreal in full rebuild mode. 4. B.C. Lions. The addition of star quarterback Mike Reilly and receiver Duron Carter will greatly improve B.C. offensive fortunes. Now new head coach DeVone Claybrooks has to push all the right buttons. 5. Edmonton Eskimos. In what amounted to a nearly complete makeover, the Eskimos added QB Trevor Harris, receiver Greg Ellingson and linebacker Larry Dean this off-season. But we’ve seen many times in the past that making a lot of changes doesn’t guarantee success. 6. Saskatchewan Roughriders. Speaking of changes, the Riders have a tonne of talent, but with uber boss Chris Jones long gone, the responsibility of guiding Saskatchewan falls on rookie head coach Craig Dickenson. A healthy Zach Collaros would greatly improve the Roughriders’ chances in 2019. 7. Ottawa Redblacks. The Redblacks are seventh on the list primarily due to their trip to last year’s Grey Cup. Ottawa, along with Toronto and Montreal, have a gargantuan question mark at the most important position on the field, quarterback. 8. Toronto Argonauts. Ricky Ray retired just weeks ago, leaving the starting QB duties to James Franklin. If he doesn’t start to live up to hype that followed him from Edmonton, it’s going to be a long season in the big smoke. 9. Montreal Alouettes. Not only is the team’s ownership status in flux, the on-field product leaves a lot to be desired. It has been a revolving door at quarterback since Hall of Famer Anthony Calvillo retired after the 2013 season, but at least the Alouettes don’t have to deal with the Johnny Manziel circus this season. No surprise that the bottom 3 teams are in the East. The imbalance will be there again.

Yeah a good dose of the bull Harris and Oliviera the pounder will wear defences down..and the passing lanes will open right up...I'm not too concerned who our QB is...play smart and win...basically what Nichols has been doing save for that small stretch last year

  27. Ehhh it was never going to happen though. Chungh and Loffler were both gone. Rosters turn over based on the salary cap and you just have to be prepared to replace them with guys in your system. It's what Calgary has done for a long while and what we are now doing.

  29. Love it! Question to Asotui Eli Does he have that football fire burning in his belly again? “It’s getting up, it’s getting higher and higher,” he said. “I’m getting little flashbacks on the field and getting back into the whole brotherhood mentality… your brothers’ got your back and stuff like that. It feels good. It’s definitely building up. I’m getting a little more excited, a little more energy and a little more passion. It feels good. “I’m not in the best shape in my life, but I’m getting better every day and I’m getting tips and there’s a lot of great resources with this program. I plan to utilize them to try and be the best I can be to help the team be the best they can be.” - https://www.bluebombers.com/2019/05/16/asotui-eli-rekindling-fire-football/

You have to understand tho as well that guys play a role that is key that doesnt translates to tackles..they do the things to allow the big guns to make the tackles. That being said his ST play shouldn't keep him around if a raw rookie is head and shoulders better..but again..its Nichols team for now..then Strev's so 3rd string developing now is kinda irrelevant and would never..ever see the light of the field..so I'd much rather keep a guy..Bennett who knows the system.. adds value on the team and knows our playbook very well in the odd chance he has to be bumped up to number 2..cause as it stands if our starter goes down..or the backup..we could be one play away from playing with a rookie..and we would be in a bad spot. As it stands we are developing a guy..streveler so no need developing a 3rd who would get zero development time anyway
    2 points
  31. But he doesn't 'excel' at them... Miller, Briggs, Miles, Gauthier, Fenner excel at ST He's decent but is biggest play of the year was kind of because he was the last man downfield... Just hope we can replace his 7 ST tackles if he gets cut...

  34. "It's been a great experience, these guys are good for the room... it's a good eye-opener that football is being played around the world." Coach O'Shea on the impact of CFL 2.0 ▶️ | bit.ly/2YyzQXH 👁‍🗨 Cruel business - If a bear is released in the woods, leave it be. (32 years old, played 1 full season in his 6 year #CFL career.) (246 tackles for LB Bear Woods the last three seasons with only 24 misses. Under 10% missed tackles makes him #1 among MLB, even better than Elimimian and Dean.) 👁‍🗨 As to Brian Bennett making the team...as soon as I saw those ST tackles last year..he has a job. Someone’s going to have to rival Streveler to get Bennett off the roster. 👁‍🗨 Boy do I see big name cuts all over the league..especially Calgary and B.C. 👁‍🗨 Tampering (previously known as Herveying) - for players and teams to talk 9 days prior to Free Agency is now legal....it makes sense and could stop furious bidding. Rasheed Bailey is another to keep an eye on, for sure. - Darrin Bauming TSN

Don't see how that outweighs the risk of injuring your potential QB of the future... blown ACL and you have just wasted 3 years of QB development

  41. So Streveler is our development qb... guy like Bennett is a great option at #3 because he has a bit of experience and if you need him he can bring a lot of things to the field. I got no problem with him hanging around as #3. Big arm, athletic, little experience... goes well with veteran #1, hotshot young #2.

  43. game verus Montreal he showed good mobility and moved chains with his legs, as well as a nice touch on the deep ball to Simonese...albeit a small sample size, but what 3rd stringer gets much to show anything other than as short yardage?? From my observations he seems to be the most athletic of the 3 (in an all around capacity) and seems to have the best arm strength

  44. 3downnation - 14 reported points (I see 13) three-year deal with a $50,000 increase in the salary cap each season. minimum salary stays the same in 2019 ($53,000) then jumps to $65,000 in 2020 and 2021. the three-year deal times up with the expiration of the league’s TV contract with TSN. some form of revenue sharing on any new TV deal and CFL 2.0. medical coverage for up to three years for injured players. Canadian quarterbacks will be part of the ratio. some protection for veteran American players, including three of the seven international starters must have played three years with their current team or four years in the CFL. the ratio will remain the same through the duration of the CBA. no more unpaid bonuses in the lead up to a new CBA. the addition of an extra roster spot for an international player. work permits for American players will be open, allowing them to seek other employment in Canada during the off-season. a rookie salary scale that’s said to start at $85,000 for the first overall pick. the deal went to CFLPA team reps on Wednesday and is to be given to the union membership later on. A ratification vote is expected to be held until sometime next week. https://3downnation.com/2019/05/15/what-we-know-about-the-new-cba/

  47. Today’s snips - mostly good news. 👁‍🗨Surprised to see Jalen Saunders released. 👁‍🗨Meaningful - 3 years of medical coverage for the CFLPA 👁‍🗨Canadian QBs - this could be helpful, especially in the future. 👁‍🗨Open work permits for internationals. That’s gotta help. 👁‍🗨👎Don’t like Streveler and Nichols not showing up today at rookie camp. 👁‍🗨Revenue sharing...good gain for the players 👁‍🗨I’d like to know who proposed getting rid of the Canadian Ratio.. 👁‍🗨Nice - the Desjarlais signing sooner than I expected. 👁‍🗨No more unpaid bonuses. Good news. 👁‍🗨3 year deal means the next negotiations will be heavily influenced by any negotiations with TSN, seeing as that’s when the current deal expires. Doesn’t matter now...we got football
