  1. There’s no doubt in my mind that Nichols is being elevated by the players around him. So sick and tired of the constant checkdowns, fear of getting hit and inability to put the ball in the right spot. His accuracy has been absolutely pitiful this year and we’ve paid pretty dearly for it when you think about it - he got Matthews destroyed on a long bomb he hung up for way too long, he’s had Whitehead, Wolitarsky and Lawler contorting their bodies to make what should be easy catches and taking some good abuse for their troubles, he’s almost gotten Lawler killed across the middle on two separate occasions ... he’s making the easy throws look tough and the tough throws look impossible. I honestly think the last time he dropped one right in the basket was to Demski against Ottawa. That doesn’t absolve LaPolice either though. Call a play that allows for a slant route once in a while, good grief. Open up the playbook and call a game like you brought your nuts to the stadium for once. Absolutely gutless football and it doesn’t make me sick because it means we’re 5-2 today, it makes me sick because it’s the exact attitude that never gets you a ring.

  2. Willy Jefferson gave Nichols a chance to win the game. Yes we had issues throughout the the game but inside 2 minutes our defence stepped up and got the ball back by forcing a turnover. 2 first downs would have sealed it, 1 would have come close, and Nichols engineered another two and out. Good QB's find a way.

  3. I have to imagine that O’Shea is sick and tired of Lapo going into kill the clock mode after halftime. It’s like clockwork at this point. You have to wonder what’s being said in the room at half. And if the uneducated fans know it, you damn well better believe that the coaches in the league have figured out you can be aggressive and take chances against this team in the second half and they aren’t going to fight back. A lot of that is Nichols too. The guy is not a leader. Perhaps the INTs against Hamilton and the public beatings he took last season have made him petrified to make a big mistake but he can’t have it both ways. Being known as a game manager clearly rattles him and hurts his feelings, he’s made that clear countless times. But at this point, a game manager would be a massive upgrade. This team can win with a game manager who owns what he is and makes the plays that are available in front of him. Even game managers don’t throw for sub-170 yards against the worst defence in the league or an almost unbelievably bad 261 on 48(!) attempts. Yards can be meaningless in certain situations but here they tell the whole story.

  5. I doubt Lapo is calling those check-downs. That's Nichols unable to get through his reads and then ditching on the play.

  6. You know the thing is his mechanics are a little off and you can tell he’s un comfortable in the pocket, similar to what happened to drew willy but not as severe as a case. I think partially some of it is mental. It’s too bad. I’ve been a Matt Nichols supporter ever since he got here but I think it’s nearly time for a change.

  7. It’s gutless - but at the same time we have receivers getting punished because of it. Something has got to give, at some point.

  9. Harris got 3 or 4 on first down. Nichols on 2nd and manageable throws a 4 or 5 yard incomplete pass. He has his happy feet back. Hes afraid to get hit. I find the Streveler thing interesting cuz he can throw to his checkdowns also but.. He can also run. So 170 passing plus 70 80 plus on the ground is better. This team has talent..lots.. They just need avg QB play.. They aren't getting it.

  13. I swear I seen the team last year get an extra jump in their game when Big Chris came in.

  14. but when you're a game manager, you point at completion percentage (67.7%) and turnovers (0). Oh, but wait.... he doesn't want the game manager label! In his mind, he played fine and it was the receivers who weren't getting open. He mentioned in the post gamer on CJOB that receivers were all covered. Sounds a lot like the blame game that went on in Calgary last year when he was really struggling a lot. I wonder myself if the receivers and even Harris to a certain extent are giving up on him. There was zero spark whatsoever in the 2nd half yesterday!

  16. It’s intetesting because Matt Nichols was excellent in 2017 in close games/game winning drives. I had no confidence that if Toronto took a lead we’d be able to pull out a win. I don’t want to write off Nichols after two underwhelming performances, however it’s clear he can’t stretch the field on a constant basis anymore. Thursday will be a big test to see where we stand.

  17. You are not alone in your assessment. I am not trying to absolve LaPolice but it seems to me that he can draw up all the plays he wants, but Nichols likely has a couple-three options on almost every play but if he goes into panic mode, nothing is going to work well.

  18. I think the Esk at Calgary game today will make the next week game very interesting. If the Esk beat the Stamps - the Stamps will be looking for get even in the Peg. Now the same could be said about the Bombers losing two in a row out east and coming home. However I think the Bombers will be so up tight that they will be in self destruct mode if they fall behind. I actually hope for a Stamps win over Edmonton and maybe they will come in a little over confident etc. If the game comes down to a last minute drive for a win - we are toast - not in MN or POP's playbook.

  19. I actually think we beat Calgary at home. This is a moment of adversity. 5-2 and losing two games we could have/should have won. Hopefully we open the playbook up a little bit and Nichols brings his A game.

  20. When is the last time we have hit a seem route? Anything over the middle over 12yards? Whats a corner route?

  21. Anybody else feel like it could be an ugly night at IG Field Thursday. I mean if Nichols plays like he has and we lose to Calgary, I suspect the boo birds are going to be out in force. Yeah, so basically I feel like we are where we were last year.

  22. With the O - line Willy had, it was at least a lot more understandable. The current O is loaded with weapons, plus good young Canadians and the best American OTs in the league on the OL. And Harris makes some outstanding blocks every game.

That was an entertaining game. Adams, Pipkin, Davis - not perfection by a long shot but it's fun to watch some athleticism at the QB position. Other than AH rippin' it, watching the Bombers constantly go 2-out, 2-out is incredibly boring in comparison.

Compare Jones on the sidelines to Claybrooks. Looks like a guy in charge with a plan while Claybrooks mouth hangs open & eyes are glossed over. Like he has no idea what the hell is going on.

  31. 1 harris. Beast mode running. Shouldn't have gone away from him. 2 WJ. Knock downs sack pressure tackles for loss. Best game so far in blue. 3 bighill. Side line to side line tackles. HH Kongbo with the early pass knock down

  33. Watching that 2nd half....was really struck by the lack of adjustment from this coaching staff. Argo QB kept dropping those dinks and dumps... and scrambling up the middle. while we vacated some zones, to run useless blitz packages......lousy tackling didn't help matters No attempt to stretch the field on O, no Streveler, no Hybrid packages.....less than 30 yds passing in that half. Top to bottom fail

  35. I doubt that MOS would have won a 3rd down ball placement challenge. I can't remember any coach winning one. Better to keep the challenge for something that's winnable. Bighill led the team in tackles with 10. He was much better this week than he was last week. I expect him to be back to his old self soon.

  37. Holy hell. Adam Bighill these last few games...not good.

  38. Possible, but entirely without basis. And you are devaluing what Nichols brings to the table. Yes, the team is good, but Nichols is the leader out there and fully understands our system. The system would have to change for Streveler to succeed and he still is not experienced enough.

  39. No you are wrong. There are very few people that pump Nichols up as being one of the elite qbs in the game. The arguments come from people like you falsely arguing that Nichols didn't play well based on whatever subjective statistics you come up with and praise other quarterbacks because of whatever statistics you come up with when they didn't play that well either. See the problem for people like you, is that you have no consistency. You view the Bombers with a hyper critical eye which you don't turn on other teams as well. You are much more lax in your judgement of other teams than the Bombers. Which is why you always find yourself in these arguments.

  40. I don't think it's a case of "I Love Nichols" fans... It's a case of not letting people **** on him for unreasonable things. Honestly I think given time Streveler has higher potential than Nichols, but some people bag on Nichols for ridiculous reasons and need to be corrected about it.

  48. I think Matt Nichols should play on special teams and do a really shity job of blocking so that he can have a longer field to work with and rack up more yards. Lame that he isn't.
