  1. He hasn't really done it in a long time. We get pretty excited about average QBing after last season.

  2. The infuriating thing about Nichols is that he has shown that he can do it. But will he? He is like a strip-tease performer- shows you enough to get excited but not enough to satisfy.

  3. All of the pro Nichols crowd groupies have turned Houdini. Speedflex has just been pragmatic about it the entire time.

  5. I think its the way theyve lost the games that most people are panicking about. No one would be complaining if they lost a 31-30 hard fought game against Hamilton with Masoli and Nichols trading punches. Its the fact that happy-feet hot garbage Nichols is back and the once stout defense is giving up huge yards to clowns like MBT.

  7. Is this about finding talent for the Riders, or the fact that they couldn't go a whole season with someone named Chris Jones on their team?

  8. Calgary has a tonne of injuries. They are playing a backup quarterback. They are on the road. They will be coming off only 4 days rest. Bombers have relatively few injuries. They are playing their starting QB. They are at home and have a full week of rest. There are no excuses to expect anything other than a Bomber victory.

  9. Its not just the US scouting which is as others have said is the best in the CFL, its how they prepare their players. Flat out they just get them reps and opportunities that other teams don't. Marshall Ferguson was on 1290 earlier this year and discussed his team in Calgary's camp under the whole send a CIS QB to a CFL training camp program. He mentioned how he got reps in camp and was quizzed in meetings just like everybody else, experiences that he said other CIS QBs never get with this program. You think about that and then it makes sense that their QBs always look good, they've been able to start a number of backs the past few years that have had success and on and on down the line.

  10. At the end of last season, it was obvious that Nichols was injured but was still putting out. I cannot speak for others, but I assumed that he would come back this spring, healed and as good as he was in 2017. My bad.

  11. It’s far less drafting than them having the best U.S. scouting and personnel department in the league by far.

  12. In the past issues with Nichols have been around production consistency. He'd disappear for half's at a time. But played his best ball late in games and post season. Now while thats still an issue, his biggest issue is lack of poise when pressured. That problem is much more worry some. He's gone from a sub elite qb that would flash being better here n there to playing at or below replacement level. Baring injury it would take some thing extreme for the Canadian mafia to make a change this season. And while I like streveler I haven't seen the step forward from him this year as a passer he needs to take.

  13. It happens all the time. Teams go in overconfident & get their asses handed to them. In every sport. Nothing is guaranteed. That's why the game is played. No teams wins a championship "on paper". It's won on the field, the ice or the pitch.
    2 points
  14. Step #1 is to install a game plan with a set of plays for Streveler and give him reps in practice so this is possible. Lapo will not do this, and if Streveler gets into the game he's running that jumbo package or the plays installed for Nichols, straight drop backs that most QB's in this era really struggle with.

  15. I think inaccurate. We're Top Tier. We lost 2 games & the sky is falling.

  16. Nah. I think Nichols biggest problem is his vision. He doesn't "see the field" as some of the great QBs like BLM, Calvillo, and Clements did. It's weird to say it but having Andrew Harris has been both a blessing and a curse for Nichols. A blessing because he's such a great check-down guy, but a curse in the sense that Nichols has never really learned to find his receivers as much as he should - he relies on Harris to be there for him.

Yeah im kinda down we **** the bed the last two weeks but the regime has brought this franchise back to respectability. Blowing it up is not im my cards.

  21. But they play for other teams so why get all tied up in a knot over that? BLM lost 2 Grey Cups in a row he should have won. The GC loss to Hank was bad enough but to lose to a **** team like the Argos even with Ricky Ray was inexcusable. He has lost to Ottawa in Ottawa in the past in the season opener. Reilly's best days are behind him. He doesn't even look like a leader on the field anymore. No use wishing for something we don't have & the price to pay to get one of those qbs is way too much.

  22. Lotta talk about the quality of our OL but I'm not convinced they've been very good during the last couple games. I think that interior and Hardrick playing injured has caused some issues for our offense...

  23. This forum is a becoming a ******* mess. Win 5 in july... grey cup bound, lose 2 in July, fire everyone and look forward to 2020. And of course... "Dont see the pro Nichols crowd out" while conveniently forgetting they were gone during the winning. Lol. Its Aug 5th, bombers are 5 and 2 tied for 1st with room for improvement. Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend!.

  24. I don't know each off season they speak about how Matt Nichols is in better condition (lost weight gained muscle) and how he has studied film and etc... etc... I think the issue with Matt is mostly mental and a close 2nd is his athletic ability. The whole game manager is a nice way of saying "White guy with limited mobility, limited arm, smart brain". It's the same BS when they call every black qb "True athlete" meaning "Strong arm, great mobility, dumb as a door knob" See Jonathan Jennings.... Everyone craps on Streveler running to much and crap on his throwing mechanics.... at least with Streveler the guy is a bull dozer and has good speed so late in the game when we need only one first down he's much more likely to roll out and bull doze his way for 10 yards then Nichols doing his patented panic and throw a ball into the turf for 5 yards.

  27. What separates average from great? It's the ability to make the two or three throws a game that separate winning from losing. Often this is just a matter of stringing together 2-3 first downs at a certain point in the game, regardless of earlier mistakes. Even when Nichols has been playing well he's often outdueled in this regard. Putting up a bunch of TD's in the first half is often not enough.

  28. Lapo is an overthinker. Almost every week we come out with a tactic that works in terms of misdirection, Harris, something that's working easy, and then he shifts away from it and never goes back.

  30. Can't help but notice the absence of some members in this thread over the last 2 and a half weeks... The cat got your tongue USABomberfan? I've been awaiting your insulting and demeaning commentary on how everyone is wrong... And Rod Black, no snide, witty comments to support your buddy? Lol, imagine that... at least SpeedFlex27 is big enough to come back and take the heat... One can at least respect that....

  33. Hall has one problem and that's scheming and calling blitzes. Most of them are predictable and shown pre-snap which basically renders them useless. He loves to blitz on passing downs and that usually entails blitzing 2 out of WIL/MLB/S which means the D has a level of pass rushers and a deep level of DB's on top of all routes but not attacking slants and crossers. That scheme is getting chewed up by YAC and giving up way too many 2nd down conversions the last two weeks.

  35. Step #1, stop killing your own momentum by getting ultra conservative with a lead. Momentum in sport matters, but our coordinators love to give the other teams momentum.
    1 point
  36. That game and the Hamilton game cemented my thoughts that it's time for new coordinators. The patented Ritchie Hall defense can't close out a game and the Lapo "don't **** up let the D win it for us" offense doesn't work with it either. Both are loser coordinators who need to do better because they are both great at sucking momentum from this team with the passive play calling.

    The RIP 2019 Thread

Twenty eight innocent people murdered in El Paso & Dayton. I won't count the heartless bastard the cops killed in Dayton. May his soul burn in Hell for eternity. And the politicians on both sides chant their empty mantra everytime it happens... "Our thoughts & prayers. Our thoughts & prayers. Our thoughts & prayers". I'm Conservative & maybe a Republican if I was American but I sure hope the American people wake up & vote that ******* racist who incites hatred on twitter & his rallies out of office.

  44. Team bonding is important. Sometimes a team that's close can find a way to win. Just look at that mess in BC. That's no team. It's a bunch of individuals collecting paycheques. They sure play like it. So, I get O'Shea's point.

  46. I doubt that MOS would have won a 3rd down ball placement challenge. I can't remember any coach winning one. Better to keep the challenge for something that's winnable. Bighill led the team in tackles with 10. He was much better this week than he was last week. I expect him to be back to his old self soon.

  48. Just curious as to why you think that is? I don't think being a CFL fan should preclude you from liking the NFL or vice versa. I've been a die-hard Bomber/CFL fan since I was a kid and feel the same way about the NFL despite the differences between the leagues. I understand having a preference between leagues but I don't see it as some form of treason to the CFL because I like the NFL.
