Hecht gasses tackle at the hash mark, huge gain for Stamps Arbuckle finds receiver wide open at Blue 15.... Then he gets middle pressure, but breaks contain round the end.... .....all the way to the endzone. 10-7 Bombers D not looking good on that drive...poor tackling and coverage.... Lawler grabs ball behind him up the middle, despite getting helicoptered. Ar Buckle sees blitz (Hecht) coming and beats it easily into the flat for 15 ...followed by mid range completion on the sideline...and a FD swing pass.. Sayles jostling with Rogers in the end zone...draws PI call. Ball on 1. OB sneak for the TD.....10 point lead evaporated......14-10 Stamps Nichols hits Matthews up the middle for 20...then Wolt for another FD. Matt appears to drop ball right into corner of endzone for Woltman... But ruled incomplete.....Harris gets first down on swing pass... ....another screen to Harris snuffed out on 2nd down. Medlock FG. Jefferson flushes AB out....Roh with the tackle.... Mr. J. Grant has nice punt return up the middle and gets Blue out of hole... Harris hit in backfield on 2nd and 2.....poor Medlock punt and no yards call Bighill blitzs and forces incomplete on 2nd down.. Lord Janarion takes the punt, starts right, reverses to the left..... .... turns the corner again....down the sideline, 75 yards for the touchdown. Going out on a limb.....this guy will be doing the returns, next week... Sayles makes tackle on crossing route....to force punt... Grant fumbles the kick...ball bounces down to the Bomber 22. Stamps ball. Arbuckle has wide open guy in endzone behind Hecht...but hits the upright... NA then lofts sideline pass to Rogers...down to the 5, with halftime looming... Sayles plays jump ball with Rogers in the endzone...comes down with huge INT. Nichols starts 2nd half, with his longest completion of the day, 30 to Lawler.. Bryant holding penalty kills drive, takes away the field goal.... MOS has other thoughts, and sends Medlock to try from 56.... ...and he nails it! 23-14 for the Bombers..... Nevis having good game against the run (as usual) Some of Hecht's physical limitations beginning to show, lately.... Sayles comes in blindside and sacks Mr. Arbuckle.... Lucky takes reverse sweep...bobs and weaves for 20... Streveler on 3nd and a couple of feet...strings it outside and is stopped... At least a 3 point turnover...this O has no finish, tonight. Sayles another nice tackle, Maston knocks down pass... Bomber D has tightened up, since that 2nd quarter... Grant, who looks like a weapon...has a good punt return wiped out by holding... Bombers ahead....but still too many "mental errors" tonight on both sides of the ball... Harris gets clobbered on a hitch pass....Demski close to the marker Streveler pounds 3rd and 1, right up the middle...this time.... Harris catches another dump pass....Nichols pressured and throws up.... ...yes, another dump to Harris. 3rd and 1.5 Streveler in..... ....who goes up the middle again, like a good boy and converts... 2nd and 3 delay pitch to Harris - stuffed. Too cute by half. Bombers eating up clock...but struggling to maintain drives... Williams breaks 2 tackles for a first down, Ambles avoids 2 more for another Bighill still does not look quite right out there..... D. Jones blitz forces 2nd down incomplete......Stamp 47 yd FG. 23-17 Harris run and check down for FD. Matthews open down sideline, can't hold on.. Nichols pressured and dumps ball off again (rumbling from stands) short of marker Stamps punt returner runs into his own guy, then Hallett....fumble - Hallett recovers 2 Harris runs for a first down, then wiggles down to the 3 yard line. Nichols runs QB draw, but runs it like a sundial and is tackled on the 2. ....the lack of finish by this O tonight is glaring... Medlock puts it through. Bombers 26-17. Arbuckle hit by 4 Bombers on 2nd down. 3rd down pass overthrown! ...but Sayles gets call for IC. Some real stinger penalties tonight.... Williams takes screen down to Blue 23 with 3:10 left AB reads blitz (again) Williams wide open in flat to the 11. Rogers wins jump ball with Gaitor, avoids another tackler...dives into endzone. Extra point makes it 26-24. Game starting to look like an Argo replay.... Bombers desperately need to get some first downs on O. Harris runs for 2 (boos from the stands) Nichols throws pass behind Woltman (quite a few more boos) Stamps return kick to their 45. Just need FG to win. 2nd down pass bounces off receiver hands, right up into the air..... Who else? Rose is waiting underneath it, to collect another INT. Harris runs for 7.... Streveler pounds up the gut for huge first down... Harris busts off tackle close to marker, and over 100.... Andrew and the Calgary bench then discuss the weather, I think... Streveler dives over for the clinching FD. Time for victory formation. Bombers break losing streak, have series edge on Stamps and Moes Not an artistic triumph...but alone in first place eases the pain Not a fancy glass.....but the contents do likewise..

Here’s the reality with Nichols ... he had a better than average (for him) night and tossed up three balls that were good looking - one to Lawler for a nice little gain, one to Woli that was just not executed and one to Matthews that the CGY DB made a good play on. Rest of the game? Safe garbage. So predictable. Not scaring anyone. Not stomp on your throat, smash mouth, prove you can stop us, not nothing. Equal parts LaPolice and Nichols go into the conversation of why our O is so inept, but no matter what blame you wanna place where, the reality is our offense sucks. Matthews didn’t forget how to play wideout, Lucky Whitehead hasn’t suddenly just forgotten how to be a weapon ... etc, etc, etc. We don’t use our weapons. If Grant doesn’t put two in the end zone tonight, we lose handily. Our O has been **** for a minimum of three games and the combo of play calling / QB play is showing absolutely zero signs of improvement. We may finish 13-5 but this year is not going to be a Grey Cup year. as an aside, I always find it funny that people will crap on Willie Jefferson and justify it by singling out the odd notable play here and there when he isn’t elite but they’ll turn a blind eye to how atrociously mediocre Nichols is.

and, just for the record, I'm not absolving Nichols of anything or saying he's the second coming of Tom Brady, but Jesus.....some of you are so far out too lunch and just CONSUMED by negativity. I've seen enough 3-15's to last a lifetime.....I'm gonna enjoy 6-2, thanks.

Tho not happy with the lack of vertical push, we took what arguably the best defense in league right now gave us and it worked...the check downs aren't sexy but kept drives alive and ate up a lot of clock. The Stamps have been shutting teams down lately and have won some games without much offense themselves so we played a smart safe game..we won..we are in first for now...why complain. You can say luck played into it due to the returns, but it's not always luck...a return takes a lot of things to go right to be successful...even moderately successful as well as and if your guys mess up assignments...it's ugly....it goes both ways. Nobody has a crystal ball either so who's to say if we didn't take the rock to the house we wouldn't have scored anyway...you will never know, so why dwell on it. I did see a concerted effort to throw downfield, so thats a start...Matthews ball was not really a drop...Nichols put it in wrong spot and the DB got his hands inside of Matthews and helped in dislodging it...if that ball is over the left shoulder Matthews makes the catch....continuing with Matthews he needs more than 4 targets a game...he should be fed 7-9 times minimum like other teams do their top guy, and not the 7-9 yard routes they run him..I think 2 of his 4 catches were routes inside the first down marker...stupid Defense though having a small blip after first 2 drives made the adjustments needed and shut things down nicely..thats even with an early injury in the secondary...and even without Jeffcoat the dline had lotsa pressure...caused Arbuckle to throw early on may instances resulting in bad throws...and some drops....the pick at the end..sure receiver had his mitts on it but pass was high and behind him and he had to contort back to get it, hence the tip drill...and that was due to pressure Also I think it's time for Hecht to have a seat and we use Jones...or Wright...I'd even like to see Exume there as he closes fast..hits hard and has a motor that doesn't stop. Hecht has wiffed too many tackles lately and is a step too slow for the blitz packages they use him in...he is good rotating in and in certain sets, but I think his majority of reps at safety now is hurting us somewhat. All in all...things still to fix, but what team doesn't have tings to fix, and we are still in first, and as long as we don't pull another T.O game should stay there after next week too...7-2 at the midway point isn't that bad...warts and all

Must be demoralizing for the five teams we beat that know exactly whats coming and still can't win.

Happy we won. Got darn nervous near the end. Our O is basically a running O. If we're not handing it off on a run, we're dinking it off for what amounts to a run. That's too bad because we have some seriously skilled guys who can make plays downfield. Although, when the ball is thrown to them, they have to make plays. Tarsky and Matthews blew two big plays. The reffing was god awful. Horrid. Embarrassing. In life, find someone who will hold you like the Stamps hold the Bombers and you'll never be lonely.

I counted only 41 defensive miscues tonight, so at least there is improvement on that front

2 Of 3 facets are usually needed to win a game...and we accomplished that..and won were pretty much even in total yards on offence..Calgary had 19 more yards but we dominated time of possession...so why don't we deserve the win?? And looking back on years past this was a game we would inevitably lose 9 times out of 10 and it would be noted that good teams find a way to win...so perhaps maybe warts and all...we are now that "good" team...hmmmm

I’m wondering to myself - if the Bombers are in first place, won more games than any other team, but there is such pointed anger to not playing the way a fan envisions, is it the Bombers fault? If it’s so hard to like and appreciate the current standings, why not pick a team that suits a fans expectations better....

You have to be crazy to think that “desire” is what sets Calgary apart from the rest of the league. What kind of crap to you keep spewing around here Every other team goes into the office every day thinking what can we do to just be good enough. If this is how you really feel people think, I feel sorry for you and the organizations you’ve worked for. Everyone doesn’t make the correct decisions or executions, but I can assure you desire is not lacking in this organization.

Watching the game again after the fact, the Illegal Contact call with about 4 minutes left was utter bulls#!t. Sayles was standing there and the receiver ran right into him. That has Dickenson written all over it. It was plays like that where he went fishing with his challenges that made the league change it to only allow 1 challenge. He won them almost every time, but it was the receivers causing the contact every time. The QB barely glanced in that direction and never had any intention of throwing there. That play pisses me off because if it was called properly, the D had the stop that they needed and the end of the game is far less stressful.

Grant......a fantastic start to his Bomber career Harris.....the heart and workhorse of this club...shines once again Sayles....he was all over the field making plays An honorable to Streve...he punished that Cal. D Line with his gutsy running

At this rate Rose will be our MODP. 6 Ints in 8 games played... a very very nice FA pickup.

I still think Nichols should start but I wish they would go to streveler for a series or two when Nichols isn't performing.it gives a defense something different to look at and gives Nichols a chance to see things from the sidelines and settle down.

Bottom line after that poor offensive showing is something has to change...We're going nowhere in the playoffs with that performance...I really think it's time for our illustrious OC to put in plays for a tandem....When Matt is going into wilt mode, throw in a change of pace...and on a regular basis...Keeps the opposition guessing ...This offence has too many weapons that are not being used properly....Time to do a little experimenting when the Leo's come to town...Good place to start

I din't think Nichols was terrible tonight, but he does check down too much. I think he gives up on plays too easily. It's also been three weeks in a row where we've needed him to make a play late in a game, and he's failed all three times.

I also want to add that the reffing was complete one sided horse crap tonight.

Nichols completion rate is because its all 3 yard passes to Harris who is going to be worn down shortly.

I have an immense respect for your football knowledge and posts. This doesn’t tell 1/10th of the story today and you know it.

Obviously we’ll never know for sure but pretty good chance we lose that game if Nichols plays that final drive. Good for O’Shea or Lapo or whoever it was. I’m shocked they did it. History suggested it wasn’t ever going to happen but good for them for making that call.

Nichols has to get over fear of failure and get over that fast. Going to make mistakes, just have to make more plays.

What is our O supposed to do when they have two less possessions thanks to two great punt return TDs, a fumbled punt return, and Calgary had a seven minute drive? Two of our, what, four maybe? possessions have resulted in field goals and one should’ve been a touchdown on a perfect pass if not for the idiot refs. They’ve moved the ball well, only two bad plays, neither of which were Nichols’ fault: the blindside sack untouched and the Harris untouched hit on second and two. Handing it to Harris on that play is what EVERYONE here would want, the lack of a block isn’t Nichols or Lapos fault. Calgary has given up ONE play over 30 yards this season, so yeah, throwing deep balls probably isn’t the smartest move. nichols hasn’t been good most of the year. Lapo has made some questionable calls this year. Our offence has struggled moving the ball at times this year. NONE of those things have been true today. Give your damn heads a shake people. Jesus Christ this place is volatile and idiotic sometimes.

At this point I'll take Streveler and his "potential" complete with the mistakes over Matt and his inability to play 4 solid quarters.

Correct. It was a good play by the Calgary defender, not a drop by Matthews. I don't agree with you about Streveler though, he just needs more game speed reps running the full offensive package to show what he can do. He's got a strong arm and can throw on the run.

Classic Bomber team win, whether it's Medlock kicking 5 FG's, the D causing multiple turnovers, ST returns, or Harris carrying the O on his back, it's all good for the W.

Everyone’s too busy roasting Nichols to remember that Jeff Hecht was who we thought he was tonight.

Grant - obviously Harris - tough 100 yard game Sayles - INT, sack, couple of BS penalty calls HH - Hallet with the fumble recovery, maybe could have scooped and scored but focused on just getting the ball.

I'm not a Nichols fan, but I'm not sure that Streveler is ready to take over the team this year, might have a different opinion if we had a losing record

Grant - Unreal returns outshine a fumble. Harris - The motor never stops purring. Held on to the ball and churned out the tough yards. Sayles - Sack, pick, 8 tackles outshine a PI in the endzone. Medlock - 55 yarder to put us up by two scores, changing the mentality of the game.

I’ve noticed terrible spots for Winnipeg at least three or four times, and favourable spots for Calgary on more than one occasion. This is brutal. Way to go Medlock for preserving the drive with points at least, but wow.
