  1. I think he mostly gives the team a similar opportunity to win as Nichols. He needs to learn from his mistakes and and think he will. He was playing against two of the top pass rushes in the league and I'm not convinced that our offensive line is good enough in a pass blocking capacity right now. We are awfully young at the two guard positions. He has shown in both starts that when the game is on the line he's capable of putting the team on his shoulders and willing a touchdown drive. He put Edmonton away with one last week and he put the team up on the scoreboard on his last drive this week. I think that his accuracy is something that can be worked with and his ability to read defenses will improve with time. He's just really lacking experience. I mean.. A guy like Cody Fajardo spent 4 years in the CFL/NFL learning before being thrust into action. Streveler is still just one year out of college. Some of the accuracy issues I think are more related to the lack of decisiveness on a certain read rather than a lack of accuracy. His biggest strength is his running ability which is beyond anything i've seen in this league. But that also holds him back a bit because he just doesn't get the passing reps that a guy like Dane Evans would get each game. Probably will take him twice as long to make all the mistakes and see all the things that they are going to throw at you and learn from them. But we gotta keep in mind that Nichols was't passing for 300 yards a game in this offense either. If Streveler passes for 175 and provides his running ability that's pretty much equaling what Nichols was providing IMO. He's be more aware of when we get into field goal range we don't throw a pick and we don't take a huge intentional grounding call. Those small details are where Nichols excels and wins games.

  2. HEe needs reps and experience....he actually sits in pocket way better than last year already...and once he gets used to coverages..and reads...he will get even better...he gets antsy at times, but thats because he is seeing things a lot of times for first time...so isn't processing right away and is still thinking...he gets more time under center..the thinking will dissappear, and it will be reaction and instructive execution taking over..it takes time , and it's not as advanced as we would have liked to date, but it's also because he hasn't been allowed to do this until....now All his appearances up to last week he has been in on stupid gimmickey stuff, and limited play selection...what would you expect about his pocket awareness having no real work in the pocket to go through reads?

  3. Nichols wins game cuz the D or Special Teams score TDs also. Surprise surprise they didn't yesterday and we lost. I feel im watching diff games then some ppl this year... Nichols O leads league in 2 n outs.. Lowest passing yards per game.. No receiver on pace for 1000 yards. Why ppl pretending the O is winning games?

  4. Thing is you don't need a model...maybe early Reilly but with that skillset...you utilize it...having him static in the pocket is a waste...you move him around...have him do things on the run, and in diffeent launch points....his run threat will open open the passing for him...as of right now, we aren't allowing that..we basically have him working between the tackles and the runs he does get, or when he has to take off, he is doing it through traffic...getting yards...but tough ones. If he's play actioning and getting outside he holds the guys in the box for that crucial split second or two...and has room to navigate...and it' becomes a pick your poison for the DB's and or sam..stay back...he runs...close in..tosses over their heads...and as Geebr said...following this script at first...and varying i the pocket..out of the pocket will eventually transform him into a guy with pocket presence...

  6. Honestly I'm getting tired of this "Tell it like it is" T Burg. It's never ending shitt on the team.

  7. Right off the bat I recognized what LaPo was doing. Without so much as a fake handoff, he thinks “so, they’re expecting us to use our strength and run the ball eh? Well , I’ll show them” And they didn’t run. No up tempo. No smash them one, two, with both Streveler and Augustine. Just play right into Saskatchewan’s hands and our weakness. I was not impressed.

  8. lay blame where it belongs...right at Lapo's feet...the game was lost in first quarter with his "i'm smarter than all and will trick everyone" schtick and pound Streveler (round peg) into a square hole (pocket passer) What that was all about was mind boggling...first 2 series...not even a hint of run..allow SASK to get momentum and pin ears back and stifle us...total crap You allow Strev to do what he does, and gradually massage in new wrinkles and do things from the pocket...thats when you outsmart people and catch them off guard..

  9. You are wilfully ignoring half the rule. The rule states that you cannot hit the long snapper while his head is down and he is in a vulnerable position. His head was slightly coming up but he was DEFINITELY still in a vulnerable position. Therefore, this was a text book dirty hit.

  10. For my money they can get rid of live mic games and replace them with mics in the command centre so we can hear the process they go through when reviewing calls or deciding whether to make use of the "eye in the sky"

  12. I honestly felt like we could have, should have had more than the 5 sacks they already got. That line gets away with all kinds of holding.

  13. Funny how just about everyone with an iota of football knowledge that has commented on the play disagrees with you. I guess you know better than the coaches/players and football experts who all unanimously agree this hit should have been called. You are interpreting the rule incorrectly. The rule is that he must have his head up AND no longer be in a vulnerable position, it is not a combination of both. Either or.

  14. Streveler is fine, Lapo is the problem here. That game plan to start the game was abysmal. That's the knd of stuff you give to Nichols not Streveler. Lapo wasting the first quarter before starting to call proper plays and Ritchie Hall and his give up D at the end are what caused the loss. That Sask team is as garbage as I thought they were, but our idiot coordinators gave it away.

  15. EXACTLY. You simply don't have the time to brace for impact when you are expected to : 1) Snap the ball with your head down 2) Lift your head 3) Get your feet set 4) And brace for impact. In a professional football game, CFL or NFL, this has to happen in 1-2 seconds. In the NFL it might even be faster. There's also a reason the long snapper is a designated position since it requires a unique skill set. There's a reason the CFL put this rule in place to protect the long snappers. Delusional Rider Fans will never see the logic in this unless it happened to one of their players. While we complain about the TSN panel, and their commentary... they are all filled with former CFL stars, who played the game and know the rules and understand the pace the game is played at. If they agree the hit was dirty, Bob Irving agrees the hit was dirty , MOS (another former player and well respected person) thinks the hit was dirty... guess what it's likely a dirty play. I understand that they are sometimes way off base, but that doesn't happen very often. They know what they are talking about... they are the subject matter experts. My .02

  17. khari. He was handed the rains as the season started without having any say over his assitants and turned that team around on his own.

  18. Just catching up on all the discussion here... Wow sounds like the Bombers were royally screwed on this game. I hope we absolutely demolish them on Saturday. When Bob Irving complains about officiating you know something is up.

  19. Anybody watch any of the other games. FFS Torontos O is more creative than ours and moves the ball more. Receivers are actually open. Balls are thrown to spots. Lapo is so overrated

  20. the guy throws pretty well on the run, what's the harm in rolling him out and cutting the field down and letting him throw on the move until the game slows down for him. Bottom line Lapo needs to learn how to draw up screen passes better and stop pretending like dumping off and hoping the back or receiver can turn it upfield for a big gain is a legitimate game plan.

  21. I feel like what Khari is doing with Adams Jr or what Hamilton does with Masoli is the model for what to do with Streveler.

  24. A vulnerable position is a vulnerable position. Why are you acting so dense? It could be no steps it could be 10 steps. Vulnerable isn't on a step count. Not sure why you are so hell bent on defending a dirty play, especially one against your own team? Terrible how far you will go to defend the other teams against us. Does a BlueBomber come and poop on your step every morning or something?

  25. You must be watching a different play because those 2-3 steps with his head up is because he's getting trucked. Dirty hit by dirty player coached by a dirty coach from a team full of dirty POS. You keep on twisting your logic and facts in defending everyone but "your team". Seriously, just drop the pretence already, it just seems like you're trolling at this point.

  30. What I do believe, is without Harris and the way our OC calls games, Nichols would have had to be scraped off the field yesterday. The rebound from the hit that Streveler took in the backfield was very impressive.

  31. 15 yard UR penalty at that time would have turned a punt into an easy FG from the Rider 35 as well. I can understand if the play is not challengeable but it should have been flagged by the Command Center.

  32. Goalie is not talking about that. He's talking about the lack of passing game that every team seems to have but us. We can't throw the damned ball.
    2 points
  33. Lapo needs to just keep giving Strev the chance to move. He isn't Nichols. Using his feet calms him down in the passing game.

  34. If the D plays like it did yesterday and the offense plays like it did after Q1 the entire game, we win the Banjo Bowl. If we do that and the refs call holding like they should on the Riders and they get penalties for their cheap shots (see Rempel, see the hit on Lawler when he was out of bounds by Edem) we win in a rout.

  35. First they might want to introduce Streveler to Darvin, I don't think they've ever met.

  36. My opinion of him has actually risen a bit. When he had the chance to drive us for the go-ahead points, he drove us for the go-ahead points. Can't teach clutch. The mistakes were unfortunate and cost us a couple field goals and ultimately the game but you gotta hope that a bright young guy like him can clean up his game.

  37. "If we can get one more impact receiver"... to do what? Waste salary cap money? This is LaPo's craptacular offense. Even Derrell Walker wouldn't be a thousand yard receiver with our garbage passing game.

  39. I thought he took a beating, some of his runs were running a gauntlet. There's no way to tell how well he can play till they 1. Run some plays that suit him. 2. Get him more than one second to throw. O line was not very good in this game. He certainly showed real leadership, gutting out enough offence to win the game, pretty much on his own.

  40. If you take out the first quarter, he actually had a pretty decent game all things being considered. That being said he still threw two pretty costly interceptions, and took points off the board that likely cost us the game. I guess the question is do we think he will get better and be worth slogging through some growing pains for? If you look at the 2nd half performance it's hard to answer the question. The fact of the matter is that we're going to have a lot of game film to see and we don't have to make a decision just yet. We're going to have at least another month come look at this guy and see how he does. I'm very interested to see him again next week at the Banjo Bowl.

  41. Watching teams like Hamilton and Calgary just move the ball at will no matter who is on the field at receiver, running back, OL, QB....but Lapo is a genius? Damn near every game we go on an extended run of 2 and outs, even the bad teams in the league don't do that. We've done that consistently over the last 3 seasons.

  42. I can't imagine Walters is very happy with our offensive output through 11 games, and I know people are going to quote PPG, but our D and teams have both scored and dominated field position most of the season. If they don't we don't score. They don't really have any excuse, we have all the players, even our backups are adequate. Don't need spectacular QBing, just a facilitator.

  43. I think his accuracy is actually a strength. His mechanics on the deep ball are poor but his mid-range stuff (10-20 yards) is the best we've seen from a Bomber QB since Glenn. The deep ball is something that can improve. Our pass protection in Sask was terrible, Augustine has no idea who to take, our interior OL is struggling with Desjarlais and Hardrick is really struggling. Streveler hung in there despite that and came back from an awful first quarter. Streveler is pretty good on the move and good on the scramble. Our receivers need to work on the scrambles because we missed a few big opportunities there yesterday when Streveler extended plays for 7-8 seconds. Our protection scheme needs some work, need more max protect with 7 blockers and 2-3 guys in a route on one side of the field, get Streveler on the roll, if pass is there take it, if run is there take it. We ran very little RPO kind of looks and the ones we did were huge plays, the Lawler pass, the Augustine run. The thing about those option passing looks is that the D has to defend the back getting the ball, Streveler taking the ball and the pass, all you need is a slight hesitation and we have a ton of space opened up. The misdirection causes the D to cover the entire width of the field. When we use it we move the ball, when we don't use it, we suck. This is with any of our QB's. Lapo's insistence on straight dropbacks with 5-6 blockers is not going to work. And that's not on Streveler, you won't see BLM or Harris or Reilly or f-ing MBT running as many dropbacks as we had Streveler run. It's a scheme that doesn't work.

  44. 161 yards passing on 67% passing is close to what Nichols gave us most weeks. Like the 65 yards rushing. Lapo needs to design an offense to fit him.

  45. Gotta give some props to Kenny Lawler, 4/4 for 67 yards, and our leading receiver in a losing effort.
