    Nichols out for the year

I'd just like to thank Matt for his contributions this year and in the past as a Bomber. I hope his surgery is a full success and he is back playing better than ever next season. He's definitely the best QB we've had for quite some time. Now we need to go out and finish the job and bring him a Grey Cup Ring. Go Bombers!

    Nichols out for the year

ffs man, I invite you to lie down on your stomach, prop yourself up with just your right arm, elbow on the floor, and then get Shawn Lemon to bellyflop on your shoulders. After that you can make judgments on who's brittle and who's not. Soon as I saw how Nichols went down and then how he left the field pointing at his shoulder, I figured he was Lulay'd or Khari'd. I suspect the dude isn't just losing a season over this. I'm sad for him tonight, he was a warrior who turned around the Bombers' program after a lot of years in the wilderness. His win-loss record with us is absurdly good. I'll always be a fan of his. If I remember right, he's doing sports management courses at Gonzaga, so he's positioning himself for the next act.

  3. Women can be so picky. Once when I was dating, a gal struck up a conversation via email and asked for my measurements as she didn't like short guys. I told her "6 '3" and she was impressed until I told her those were two separate measurements.

  9. To suggest someone is a coward, or has done something in a cowardly manner, is to speak to their character as a person in some of the harshest terms possible. Unless you know Nichols personally, or have been in the same position as him (ie: a profession football player) then the comment that you made speaks far more to your character than it does his, and what it says is not flattering to you in any way. You embarrass yourself, sir and you should stop.

  17. Guaranteed he's going to take a cheap shot at Harris or Streveler and try to break something. He's a dirty, dirty player and coward. Hardrick might find himself with some Simoni stuck to the bottom of his cleats.

  18. Third option: streveler is such a weapon with his running that him taking off becomes the check down.
    4 points
  19. Cowardly checkdowns…? What kind of childish comment is that?

  20. Until Strev wins like Matty has, I will remain on the fence. Im not blinded by how fast he runs or how many guys he runs over. Or how he looks in his inform. Can he protect the ball? Complete passes throughout the tree? Can he win? The only metric that really matters is wins. Right now hes just the shinny new sports car thats fast, whats under the hood remains to be seen...

  21. It’s almost as if there are far more factors than just QB when it comes to wins and losses. Especially in a tiny four game sample.

  23. It matters because he entertained us for many years playing a brutally rugged sport that ravaged his body, especially his right shoulder, and caused him to suffer long after his career was over and the medical benefits stopped. Unfortunately, the medical benefit money only flowed during the brief period he was eligible to collect it. It was not enough. I'm not making excuses for him but I'm willing to bet Mr. Hefney was using cocaine as a pain killer to sooth the many aches and pains that arose as a result of playing professional football and enduring the painful surgeries that he suffered. He may have been selling it as a means to supplement the cost as well as the expense of physiotherapy and other medical bills for which he was not being compensated. He wasn't just some "dude". He was a great football player with a strong work ethic, strong character, and was once a very talented CFL AllStar and a one-time Winnipeg Blue Bomber. Yes he got caught and will do his time. No one argues with this. What is outrageous though is that he was sentenced to nine years in the American prison system for selling a few grams of cocaine. That's insane! In the U.S. the same crime is a slap on the wrist for a white person. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Cocaine is one of the most popular recreational drugs out there and yes, some people can develop an addiction to it, just like they can with alcohol, nicotene, caffeine and a host of other perfectly legal and far more dangerous drugs in the U.S.A. Can you say hypocrisy? No matter what lead Mr. Hefney to make the decision to sell a few grams of cocaine, locking him up for 9 years will not do him, or anyone else not profiting from the American penal system, any good. Taking his few grams of cocaine away will not make even the smallest of dents in the cocaine supply as there are literally TONS of the stuff available for consumption across the USA and there is evidence that most of it was likely brought into that country by the American Government itself.

  28. I really don't think the Bombers are trading for an "experienced" QB at this point. They're going to roll with what they've got, for better or for worse...

  29. They could probably pull these out for you: I'm sure there are still lots at the Bomber store available.

  30. Not enough people talk about how smart streveler is.

  31. Why does it matter how much money he made or didn't make? Dude chose to sell drugs. Got caught. Will do his time. Similar story daily in the US. The only reason we're hearing about it is because he played football in the CFL.

  33. This is the best news I've heard in a long time, it will force the hands of the coach to finally move on. Clearly Nichols wasn't the same after his last injury and hopefully Streveler will keep improving and be the guy moving forward.

  34. Man, I remember when we were 5-0 and people were complaining about Nichols... this is why we can't have nice things. If they manage to win it all without him, I will gladly eat my hat.

  36. I'd take Nichols experience over Streveler in the playoffs all day... Not saying Strev CAN'T do it, but if I was a betting guy, I'd take Nichols for sure.

  37. I just don't think a Matt Nichols led team can win in the playoffs against a team like Calgary. I do believe that a Chris Streveler led team can. Nichols did a lot of good things for us and helped take us out of the dumpster, but I don't think he's the QB to take us over the hump.

  41. Said it before and will say it again: I feel awful for Matt Nichols both on a professional and personal level. This is an absolutely terrible break for the guy. As it relates to the Bombers though, I think the bigger loss is Nichols as a backup. I would have loved to have him backup Strev the rest of the way. It sucks being one Strev injury away from going to our third stringer. Even before the injury, I thought Streveler gave us the best chance to win each week. Ultimately I think its best for the Bombers to continue to build the offense around him, hope LaPolice doesn't make him a glorified running back, and see where it leads us. I think we are still very much a Grey Cup contender.

  42. My only comment would be hopefully the bombers continue to groom mcguire into a legitimate back up. I liked what we saw in the preseason with him so now they have to get him a lot more reps at practice...just in case

  47. when you're wondering about the severity of Hefney's sentence, the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution may be instructive: Follow the money. Prison labour in the USA is a ******* disgrace. All those people mad about competing for work with immigrants, when they also have to compete for work with millions of incarcerated people...

  48. I went back and listened to it again. I don't disagree with your interpretation. When I first listened to it, Coach made it sound like a passive, "we're going to try to score more" versus "we're going to run up the score on them". But, that's splitting hairs and may not be that different. I'm wrong.

  49. thats why I loved Cal Murphy and he had success...you had a team down...you keep kicking and pile on...and he took heat for it around the league for showing teams up...but he didn't give a rats arse....and if he seen a player ease up and coast....he wouldn't think twice to remove from game day roster next game...or flat out release you the following week... I too am sickened by the mr nice guy image they want to promote....time to start being a bit of a prick...and trust me...a team feeds off that and never lets up and have the late game issues we do You can't just turn it on and off in the course of a game when you feel the need...its pedal down...for 60 minutes...nothing more..nothing less
