No better way to prove you're a massive unbearable loser who's a burden to your family, the people you think are your friends, community and world as a whole, than by going onto another team's fan forum in the late hours of a Saturday night, reading back at least two weeks to find a point you can mildly contend with, dusting off the Cheetos grit from your fat sausage-like fingers and pounding away on your filthy semen encrusted keyboard, hoping your autocorrect can somehow translate the mishmash of half-thoughts and basic low IQ into English coherent enough to make you relevant for a moment. You're relevant now, champ, for about as long as it takes to read this and laugh at you for thinking Hughes is worth half that contract.12 points -

There has been speculation in this forum for some time that O'Shea's stubbornness/blind loyalty to "his" people would be his undoing and it appears we are pretty much there. His supporters will point to the quarterback problems and those game or parts of games when the team looked unstoppable, but he has had ample time to fix whatever the hell is wrong with the team and/or subordinate coaches. This is not a personal attack on O'Shea's personality or work ethic. I have little doubt that he has given this his best shot but the results are just not there to support his continued tenure as head coach. We are looking at the classic definition of insanity here if he stays.3 points

I can’t wait to hear the words “we’re going in a different direction” in regards to the release of their defensive coordinator. Hall’s philosophy is not working for us. As to the offensive coordinator, I’m assuming (ok, hoping) that he will be hired away from us. There will be no standing in his way this time. When LaPo is on his game, there is nobody better. But, his game only covers 30 minutes or so. Why he doesn’t see the same things as us common fans see, is a mystery to me. As to O’Shea, I believe he is still protected, but the uncomfortable feeling he must be feeling comes from the rope being tightened, on each side, from his coordinators. Now is the time for O’Shea to snap that whip he holds because his Coaches aren’t getting it done, and ultimately, that means him. He’s got to realize that, as it stands, this is possibly a one shot opportunity, and the team has to be at its best. The preparation for that last game shows we weren’t. He owns that. All is not lost, but geebus, now is the time to step up. Don’t give me that “we made too many mistakes” line, because we don’t want to hear that anymore. O’Shea, you’re the leader. Lead.3 points

You must be the last person here to get it ..... I do NOT hate Nichols. I just know he ain't winning anybody a grey cup, so next man up. My comments towards him as a player are no different than what anybody else does here when they feel a player is not pulling his weight. Thanks again for the wife comment. She is home healing as best she can and hopefully the future still holds some fun for us. I do not want to post about her anymore here as the board has been gracious enough all ready letting me vent a bit. Thanks.3 points -

Even though I post a lot here I'm not the passionate fan I used to be but I still enjoy talking football with you guys. I can honestly say that being a poster here has kept me engaged as a Bomber fan. Without the discussions here I doubt I'd still be the Bomber fan that I am. I don't get upset much anymore or as excited as I once did although those 2 game losses vs the Argos & Als did piss me off which doesn't happen very often. The game yesterday just made me feel numb. I wasn't angry & it didn't bother me they lost. I used to get so excited going to Bomber games when I resided in Winnipeg & I lived & died with every victory or loss but now my excitement just seem muted. The decades of disappointment since 1990 has taken it's toll on me as a fan. Now, I kind of expect the team to suck in huge games & sadly they usually do. I thought this may have been the year we finally break the 29 year drought but I now realize this team isn't going anywhere. I still cheer for the Bombers but I see so much incompetencty with our coaches & the Bombers seeming unwillingness to change that it's hard not to have a low bar regarding expectations. I'll still watch every game wanting the Bombers to win but I have zero expectations now. I just don't know what the Bombers expect their fans to feel anymore. They seem to be happy just being a winning team instead of a championship team. For me, I just can't accept that so I've just kinda tuned out emotionally as a Bomber fan. If I do then I'm not as invested in the team as a fan & the losses don't hurt as much. I guess it's like having a security blanket so the losses don't hurt anymore. It's sad that I've lost that passion I used to have.3 points -

Yep. Getting pretty tired of the "guys love playing for Mike" line. Some of my favourite teachers were the ones that asked the least of me...that pressed me the least...that held me the least accountable. It's human nature to choose the path of least resistance whether it's in our best interests or not. Being liked doesn't make someone the best choice for a given task.2 points -
And they have a team capable of doing exactly that. They need to get guys like Hecht to play within their limitations, not play OL who are too badly hurt, and maybe sit one or two players who are obviously mailing it in. The talent is there - the coaches need to step up.2 points

The above gets at the very heart of my post yesterday. The one where I rhetorically queried why the head coach gets a free pass (from some) while his coordinators wear it. This led somebody to ask "who you would have hired" in the off season etc etc. My point was actually not so much about the need to fire the coordinators but rather the need for the head coach to own his decisions over 6 seasons. There has been ample evidence for a long time that the defense (esp) has not been good enough and - for me - the fact that O'Shea has stubbornly (there's that word again) stuck with Hall for this long is evidence that he lacks the wisdom and/or whatever quality it is that allows more successful head coaches to make timely changes. I'm also 100% with the posters who suggested: a) the current regime is WAAAAAAAAY too much 'we're just one big happy Blue family' here (i.e. they are too tight with one another to wield the accountability that goes with pro sports everywhere else) and b) that it is certainly not the job of fans to figure out who should replace O'Shea or Hall or Lapo or all three. This feels like the equivalent of my sister-in-law who likes to ask my brother - when he critiques the Jets or Bombers - "do you think you could do better?" If a surgeon continually botches their surgeries, do you ask the suffering patients to perform surgery on themselves if they think they're so hot? Mike O'Shea is the reputed football doctor in the house. But his team seems to get sick most years about this time; right when they need to be in peak condition. Now I'm no doctor but I can certainly tell when somebody appears ill and it's only responsible to, at some point, ask: "Hey, maybe you should get a second opinion? Maybe you need to see a different doctor?" For what it's worth, my view is that we've seen the Ritchie Hall **** show enough times now that he should have been gone at least 2 years ago. Lapo (though many here will disagree vehemently) gets a longer leash from me because - overall - the Bombers have scored more points during his tenure here than most other franchises and I think he has consistently been working with a QB (Nichols) with a lower ceiling and considerably less athleticism than the "biggest dogs" we gotta compete with (i.e. Calgary, Hamilton, Edmonton, and now Montreal and Sask). So for me it comes back to O'Shea. He hired Hall and has stuck with him. He (unlike the other most successful coaches in the CFL - e.g. Buono, Dickenson - who have had success and won championships with different coordinators) has been unwilling to pull the trigger on a switch when needed. I think he is a very likeable and fiercely loyal guy whose players love him and that's great and all...BUT I don't think he's nearly as sharp as the other guys I just mentioned and I have certainly come to doubt whether he will ever get us the holy grail. So for me - like Blue and Gold said - anything short of a Grey Cup appearance and his head's gotta roll. Way too late for him to change coordinators now and save his skin.2 points -

I posted in the other forum that the Bombers have failed to draw a crowd over 25,500 this year, not including the Banjo Bowl, for the first time in the history of the IG Field. This after 4 seasons (including this one) of better than .500 ball. Frustration turning to apathy plays a role as well as high ticket prices in the lower bowl which have only been somewhat addressed with the introduction of family season tickets, student season tickets and individual family packs. There are more and more seats becoming available between the 30s, which used to be sold out...a result of charging new season ticketholders over $1000 per seat for non-club seats and $150 per game. Seats between the 10 yard line and corner end zones continue to sit largely empty at those high prices. Miller has to take part of the blame for this. As for O'shea, his contract is up this year and if he is one and done in the semi-finals (assuming the Bombers don't turn things around to finish first), he won't be back. 1 playoff win in 6 seasons. Try to find the last CFL coach who lasted into a 7th season with 1 playoff win and no division titles. I think you will be looking back decades to find one...in fact, I'm not sure it has ever happened. It could also be the Argos or Redblacks (I think they keep Campbell for one more season,) offer a lucrative contract offer a more lucrative contract that O'shea jumps at as soon as the season is over. Even if O'Shea makes it to the divisional finals and loses I think it's a 50-50 proposition at best that he is back. Barely above .500 in 6 seasons and no real progress towards a Grey Cup by the looks of this season...him going to bat for Richie Hall this off-season with more of the same results. He has to wear that. No, the more I think about it, the more it seems likely anything less than a Grey Cup appearance will likely result in the end of the O'shea era in Winnipeg...should be the end of Richie Hall and Lapo as well...unless Lapo replaces O'shea as head coach.2 points -

Fair point but this season isn't over yet and anything can happen in the CFL. If we get hot at the end of the season we can definitely run the table and end the drought. Imagine his bargaining power then. :-) He has a very good regular season winning percentage and he has built a good team out of an inherited mess. We look to be a winning team again this year so he has those bargaining chips. The knock against him is his winning percentage in the playoffs. He is also well-known to be stubborn, too loyal to under-performing players, and has a perplexing tendency to pick poor offensive and defensive coordinators.1 point -

I think almost anyone who's watched 5 minutes of CFL football would be a better play caller than Lapo. The Bombers have no screen game with either QB, and no throwing 3 yard suicide passes to Harris repeatedly and hoping he bounces off the first big hit isn't a screen game. Lapolice at his best relies on a lot of horizontal misdirection, he's never been very good at challenging a defense vertically without this, even with a back like Harris. How are guys like Evans, Arbuckle, Fajardo piling up yards? Their OC's run an effective screen game and that opens up plays in the mid-range and downfield.1 point -

The thing that concerns me about the Bombers is it seems that there isn't an employer-employee relationship with the team. More like from Wade Miller on down to assistant coaches & scouts everyone seems like they're all one big happy family. All close friends. Which really makes it difficult to replace someone when it needs to happen. It's hard to fire your best friend on staff if you're management or O'Shea as HC. That's just the impression I get. These guys seem to be really tight & I don't think that is necessarily a good thing. There needs to be a little fear that if you don't do your job then you are replaceable. If Wade Miller & Kyle Walters are standing on the sidelines with serious looks on their faces then people should be concerned. I don't get that impression with the Bombers.1 point -

My thoughts... Hamilton played a MUCH more physical game than us, AGAIN... They won the battles in the trenches all night long. If there was a team I'd want to emulate, it would be them. Lapo sucks (old news). I hope he gets a head coaching job somewhere else. I think our O could benefit from giving Augustine some reps in the second half. I love Harris, but I just feel like he fades at the end of the game a bit. Augustine came in for two plays while Harris went off injured, and looked good. He ripped off a 12 yard reception and a 9 yard run. A little bit of Augustine could be a good thing. Has Lucky done anything since week 2? I'd swap him for Bailey. Lalwler is good! Sub Petermann for Demski. Not sure why we don't see more of Petermann, he looks good whenever he sees the field. Hect... just no. Bighill just doesn't look like the same impact player this year. If his name wasn't Bighill I'd be calling for him to be benched. I sure hope he can turn it around.1 point -

LaPolice working for TSN was absolutely great for his career. They constantly praise him despite the results... Suitor: Well Chris, LaPo is going to build an offense so his young quarterback can thrive. Bombers run Harris up the middle, resulting in 2nd and 9. Suitor: That one didn't work but it definitely got the defense thinking. The good thing about LaPo is that he's going to be creative. Streveler runs a QB draw for a short gain. Suitor: You can really see that Streveler needs to develop more as a passer. He's got some work to do. [next series] Suitor: Well I'm excited to see what the mad scientist Paul LaPolice will draw up here. Bombers run a screen to Lucky Whitehead for a short loss. Suitor: Look at how the offense stretched the defense there, that'll be setting them for up something later, I'm sure about that... Bombers complete an 8 yard pass short of the sticks. Suitor: This offense is dangerous Chris, that play was pretty close to making a first down.1 point
