  2. All things being equal, it comes down to LaPo's offense & playcalling. Put Nichols in a Tommy Condell offense with those Ti Cat receivers & he easily has a thousand more yards passing. Same with Streveler. He'd actually get some qb coaching & probably would be a lot better. Our qbs are stuck in a slow, ponderous & unimaginative offense with an OC who sucks the life out of every player.

When it comes to Blue Bomber history, he who cannot draw on the last 11 years is living from hand to mouth. Look at where this team was at after 2008 & 2009 - the cupboard was bare. Other than a 2011 GC berth, we had absolutely pathetic seasons after that. O’Shea brought success and competence to this team. To include the first two seasons just to make the point that he is .500, given the mess he inherited, is misleading. Other changes need to be made, but the coach who turned this team and organization into something respectable needs to stay. Meanwhile, we can keep lamenting our 9 - 6 team. In other news, the Grey Champion lost to the predicted tire fire.

  4. Not defending Streveler, but really every other team in the league no matter who is playing QB has receivers open, outside of us and Ottawa. Something is really wrong with the design of the routes and protections regardless of who is at QB, and it's been that way with Lapo forever back to his time as HC, pre-Crowton. Our QB's aren't great but they aren't this bad either.

As possibly the biggest Streveler supporter ... I am 100% over Chris Streveler.

Interesting that our passing production was same with a vet QB. You don't see any systemic issue? I don't believe Adams or Arbuckle would do anything in this offense and it's hard to judge Streveler too, obviously has had some spectacular moments but no consistency.

  8. When the D plays like they did tonight, Nichols wins, period. The team has lost 3 games in a row, which is bad enough, but in two of those games they beat themselves. Montreal a failure by the D, Sask a failure by the O. And whoever is complaining about the D tonight needs to just go to bed.

  9. Whitehead should not be on the roster. Grant is a better returner and anyone is a better receiver.

  10. Rose made three terrible guesses in this game and that was pretty much the Riders entire offense on the night.

Change for the sake of change is the quick route to failure. I'm absolutely not against change, but if it is not the correct change we'll just be starting from scratch and we've been there for most of the past 25 years. Lapolice is clearly bringing nothing to this organization. This is an obvious change that has very little risk, almost no risk that his replacement is worse, I guess we could be worse than Ottawa next year. We used to at least be good in the redzone, can't even manage that now. Objectively over a significant period that has been the only consistent strength of our O, Harris and scoring in the redzone even if they needed a lot of help from D and teams to get there. There has been no improvement over Lapo's time as OC, no matter how many new players, rookies or CFL veterans, are brought in. Lowest common denominator is the bald guy talking into the green light. Hall has taken lots of hits as Walters and Co have tried to jump start the O. We have spent far more $$$ on O, and handed Hall a random collection of inexperienced DB's and cheap vets. Our only money guys are D are Jefferson, Jeffcoat and Bighill. Two of those guys haven't even been a factor this season due to injury. Hall has done an amazing job to keep points off the board.

You really have to wonder how any HC worth his salt could sign off on that offensive game plan tonight? They basically put the game on Strev's arm? We are the best rushing team in the league playing the biggest game of the year in windy conditions and you put the game on Strev's arm? I'm completely blown away by the level of incompetence on the part of O'Shea & Lapo in preparing for this one. Heads have to roll in the off season.

  15. Will you please, please, please stop with this Trinity stuff like they're some kind of religious deities? O'Shea is just over .500 as a HC & he's won no championships. Only has won 1 playoff game. We're as close to winning a Grey cup as we were in 2016. O'Shea is replaceable. He's had his chance.

  16. Its 2019. If your offensive coordinator can't figure out how to generate some easy yards and create at least a decent pass game then he isn't very good. Paul LaPolice isn't very good.

  20. O'Shea has chosen, supervised, assessed and defended his coordinators. His judgement is suspect at the very least and does not inspire confidence in him as a head coach.

Both of these guys were cut by other teams. Arbuckle was cut by the Lions. Adams cut and traded several times. Probably at the end of his career. and yet with the right coach, turns out he's a good QB. As is Arbuckle. Again with good coaching. That's why we blame our coaches. using about one roll out in a game, with an inexperienced, mobile quarterback, is not good coaching. Having a young mobile quarterback try to be mainly a pocket passer, is not good coaching.

  25. Did you actually see some of his receptions? I can think of at least two where he was stationary when he caught the pass and a Rider defender was on top him right away. he had zero time to head up field much less break a tackle. I realize it’s your opinion but it’s clearly uninformed and biased.

I do not believe that O'Shea warrants another year, let alone 3. He chose his assistants and damned few have shone. What evidence is there that the next ones he would choose would be any better? Why have the systemic problems in the offence and defence been allowed to continue? Early on in O'Shea's regime, it became obvious that he was slow to change and rigidly, blindly loyal/stubborn, and it was speculated that this would be his downfall. And so it has been. His judgement has been repeatedly shown to be poor. And to those who are saying that if O'Shea gets canned, we are are going to go back to the dark ages of Reinbold, Burke, Daly et al, Walters has shown himself to be able to build a good organization and he ought to be able to find a good replacement for O'Shea. Status quo is not good enough- we are no closer to the Cup than we were three years ago. I think the talent is there, save perhaps at the QB position, but at this point the team has to have lost confidence in their coaches.

Trying to turn Streveler into a pocket passer is the equivalent of trying trying to turn me , a 61 year old balding old man who wasn't great looking to start with into a gigilo. As much as I might want it to happen....It ain't. Osh's part in this should have been to slap Lapo's bald head the second he brought it up. If Lapo had gone into this game and made intellegent use of a QB who has limited but very special abilities THAT would have been genius. But the buck stops at the head coach. In the end his blind loyalty may cost him his job.

The last game was the equivalent of bringing in Glenn and designing a game plan around him running the ball.

  31. We’ve been dreadful with him going on 2 and a half seasons. If you want to win playoffs and Grey Cups you have to have the ability to beat the teams that are going to be there. The Bombers record against +.500 teams the past three seasons is terrible. Our W-L doesn’t matter too much in that context of winning the league. Six of Nichols 7 wins this season were against Ottawa, BC, Edmonton and Toronto. By far the four worst teams in the league.
    3 points
  32. Man, I'd disagree with this, sure they lost and that sucks, but the D played lights out for the better part of 3 quarters with absolutely no support from the O. If the O had any semblance of traction, they might've been able to pull this one out. C'est la vie.

Yes, we might hire the next Jeff Reinbold as Head Coach & that's the risk but we might also hire the next Bud Grant. It's up to Kyle Walters to get it right when he does.

  34. Head Coach Ray Jauch couldn't get the Bombers into the Grey Cup despite having a great team & 3 second place finishes in a row with 10-6, 11-5 & 11-5 records in 1980, 81 & 82. He left. Within TWO SEASONS we won the 1984 Grey Cup with HC Cal Murphy. You don't sit still after 5 seasons. Something's gotta give.

Nope, Nichols didn't play the Riders this season. Nichols' played the soft part of the schedule and his wins came against the worst teams in the league -- BC, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Toronto. Streveler likely cashes in those wins too. Nichols also beat Bo-less Calgary throwing for 0 TDs and running for 2 yards so he doesn't get much credit there. As soon as Nichols played a good team like Hamilton he was throwing picks and looked awful.

Why bother arguing about QBs... our top receivers will be lucky to hit 700 yards this season This is a problem with scheme. Until that is fixed, we're stuck in the mud.

  38. I'm not sure people thought he'd be way better...more like he'd bring more variety to the game plan. Unfortunately I think many casual observers are starting to realize that regardless who our QB is we're going to have difficulty succeeding with LaPo calling the games. That being said Chris is hanging on to the ball way too long...but...ironically that was one of the knocks on Matt too. I don't know why that is. Just about every other team's QBs manage to get off a lot of really quick passes. Slants...hitches (with blocking in place). Matt's upside was eating it or throwing it out if he didn't feel comfortable. Chris tries to force it. I feel for Chris. I have no doubt he's feeling an incredible amount of pressure to take what was billed as a Grey Cup contender all the way which I think influences some of his poor decisions. He's trying to make up for some pretty suspect play calling with some pretty suspect decisions. Not a great combo.

  40. You are assuming that it would be better if Nichols was not injured. The deficiencies in the team were becoming evident even before he went down. And the coaching has remained the same.

  41. Winston Rose played a helluva game. His “miscues” likely come down to a player feeling like he needed to take the game in his hands. Good decision? That comes down to a matter of inches.

  42. Nobody gets open. Our OC is our receivers coach. The O has not been good for weeks.. Even with Nichols and the easier Schedule. Our O is overrated.. And Lapolice should be fired tonight
