what's really funny is the number of Riders fans who are "cheering for us" right now.....a thin veil of "we can't beat Calgary, but we can for sure beat Winnipeg, so hopefully Winnipeg beats Calgary which guarantees us a spot in the big game". **** you. We're going whomping and whomping through the west until we meet Ham in a couple weeks. **** absolutely everyone who isn't one of us...

  2. From a guy who should know..a good read on why Rob Maver doesn’t like the current voting award system for punters...“I would have voted for Justin Medlock for the West Division,” says Maver. “He was second or first in lowest opponent return, he was second in net (yardage), and I think first inside the ten (yard line). Not to take anything away from anybody else, but when I look at how I value the position and how I’ve strived to play it, those are the metrics that I value.”https://3downnation.com/2019/11/08/stampeders-rob-maver-wants-all-star-voters-to-view-punting-differently/

  3. For the past several seasons, I have been tracking punting numbers in different ways. I do this primarily by dividing the punts into two categories - Own Side of Centre & Opposition Side of Centre I also track the net yardage of a punt from the line of scrimmage (LOS) on the punt play to the LOS on the next play. This helps adjust for the limitations of the CFL formula for net average. This season, the CFL started to track what it calls True Net which is very similar to my calculation. When punting from your Own Side of Centre, the primary objective should be net yardage. Justin Medlock is middle of the road for gross average but he ranks 3rd in net average. Meanwhile, the western "all-star" Jon Ryan leads the league in gross average but ranks near the bottom in net average. As Hugh O'Neill noted in a reply to one of my tweets #GrossIsGross When punting from the Opposition Side of Centre, the focus is more on field position rather distance. I track the percentage of punts that pin the oppoistion inside the 20 yard line, the percentage of kicks that result in singles and net average (this is less important here). Justin Medlock ranks a close 2nd to Hugh O'Neill with 80% of his punts pinnings the opposition inside the 20. He is the only regular punter to not register a punt single from the opposition side of centre. Medlock also leads in net average from this range. Jon Ryan is once again near the bottom in all these categories. Only 34.8 % of his punts pin the opposition inside the 20. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that 39.1% of his punts went for singles. Partly due to the number of singles and partly due to coverage penalties, Ryan ranks near the bottom in net average as well. The final aspect of punting that I looked at was punting & coverage penalties. Once again, Justin Medlock is near the top with only 4.7% of his punts resulting in punt/coverage penalties. Jon Ryan ranks near the bottom again with 21.5% of his punts resulting in penalties.

This is where O'Shea needs to make it very clear to the officials that they need to be on the lookout for this crap. Calgary's Oline did a fair amount of outright tackling of our pass rushers last game as well. If I were O'Shea I'd be making that clear to the officials as well. This is not the time to be Mr. Nice Guy hoping a call or two goes your way because you are so nice to the officials. Dickenson is a master whiner out there and often gets his way just because the officials don't want to have to be confronted by him. F(ck that siht! O'Shea has been a head coach for 6 years now. He needs to start imposing himself on the officials as an Alpha Head Coach to neutralize Dickenson's incessant whining.

I think special teams are the one area where we've clearly outclassed calgary in every game this year.

    2019-20 CFL Offseason

If we have a strong playoff run & win the West, O'Shea will be back. if It's a quick exit, I don't think Walters can sell the majority of the fanbase on another three years of the guy. There's a small but vocal group (some here) that think O"Shea is a great coach but they're in the minority. I think coaches have to be judged on post season success not just good regular seasons. O'Shea has never had a great season as a coach. A bunch of good ones. Not great. Hence, his losing record. He's never had a couple of dominant season to offset the dreadful ones.

  16. There better not be a play tomorrow where the stamps are 2nd and long and the game is on the line and their receiver away from the play, trucks our DB on purpose and draws a ******* flag for DPI. Every ******* Playoff game they have that play in there. The refs buy it ALL the time.

if you watch the games you can clearly see that medlock is the best directional punter out there. He puts that ball where he wants to all the time. very rare that he pooches one or just line drives it down the middle of the field.

  27. Some interesting implications for the Bombers: 1. Eric Rogers is obviously a big loss. Kamar Jorden is a scary combination of speed and hands, with a nose for the end zone on deep passes - hopefully the Bombers' secondary has done some prep for him. 2. Having Derek Dennis (starting LT) back is huge - Jefferson & Co. will need a little extra push to get through to BLM. I wonder how much the Stamps will run the ball? After much speculation at practice this week, slotback Kamar Jorden makes his much anticipated return to the lineup and will start for the Stampeders in the Western Semi-Final. Receiver Eric Rogers will not dress on Sunday after missing practice this week. The veteran receiver is out a second straight game. On defence, the Stamps get a few key pieces back in the lineup, as safety Royce Metchie, cornerback Tre Roberson and middle linebacker Cory Greenwood are slated to start. Offensive lineman Derek Dennis also slots in along with QB Montell Cozart, who is listed as the team’s third-stringer behind Bo Levi Mitchell and Nick Arbuckle. - cfl.ca

IMO Medlock is the best all-around kicker in the CFL, bar none and possibly in the NFL as well.

  29. Just to shift things a bit: this is going to be HUGE tomorrow. Medlock's punting skills and the team's success on returns vs. Calgary, are a couple of aces in the hole that no one has talked about very much.

The cold and snow have to favour the Bombers but will probably make for a sloppy, error-filled game. A Big Blue win will make it all worthwhile.

I'll take a stab... Maston played well at SAM... Taylor has been playing great at field HB... my guess is he was going to be DI'd and play some nickel packages... he wanted to start... coach said no... PS: I hope I'm remembering correctly that our DI's are usually DB, DL, Medlock and Grant...

  50. The Stamps are a cocky team and take after their QB and coach...but after what I saw from them last game in Winnipeg running up our stairwell...reminded me of that guy in the NFL who ran to the Cowboys star at midfield and just got plowed over - that's what should have happened to those guys - if Walby was still playing he would have knocked the receiver on his can so quick... anyways I hate Calgary and would love to kick the crap out of them on Sunday!
