Nah it's a saying you'll see in success literature. It was attributed to Julius Caesar (or Cortez) when he arrived on an Island... found that his army was making arrangements to go back home... so he burnt the boats. Got 100% renewed focus from his men from that time on. Basically take away the safety nets, remove any excuse to turn away from the task at hand.... singular laser focus.

I was there... Matt Nichols speech was incredible... very heartfelt and left many in tears... I think we can all agree he's not the perfect QB... but he was such an integral part of turning this team around and any failure to recognize that is just disrespectful and ignorant... let's give Matt the respect he deserves!

  8. When the Jets were making their run a couple of seasons ago, Jets fans were making fun of the Bombers by saying the Jets were going to win a Cup first even with not having a team for 15 years. Pro-Jets, anti-Bombers fans are almost as bad as Rider fans. I guess Chipman no longer needs to buy the Bombers to make them a winner.

  11. Lotta revisionist history about Nichols. He took deep shots and completed deep shots before he was injured. During that 7-2 run, we had the highest-producing offense in the league and our red zone production was off the charts.

  19. You can justify a lot of questionable behaviour. I'd rather just pay up and not create enemies. You would be foolish to think all other teams would not think twice about similar deals in the future. We already maxed out our investment, we don't win a Cup without him.

  20. And we would be livid if another team did that to us. Not much different than Durant f**king us over for a free payday. Not technically against the rules, but a d-bag move nonetheless.

He did it at the grey cup after party in Calgary too. There are some crazy stories from that but the best 2 are when Harris brought the cup down to the party and passed it around with the fans. And then when we were leaving the grey cup, Streveler was outside with a couple girls and then looked at us and yelled "we ******* did it" hugged me and my buddy. After that yells holy **** that hurts, the freezing has worn off and I need a drink.

Thing about this Bombers team is what a bunch of characters they are, despite being so "buttoned down" all season long. They're that way, but there's another side to quite a few of these guys. Great personality stuff we, or at least I, never saw at all, being let out after the championship. I Can not imagine what it's like to be on this team, must be such a great feeling.

  24. The odds of going into 3 games on the road and beating 3 teams with a combined record of 40-14 in the playoffs cannot be undersold. Anyone who thinks we didn't do an absolute masterpiece in this playoffs doesn't know how difficult this achievement was. It was a master stroke of coaching and execution. PERIOD. This has only been done 5 times in the history of the CFL and NEVER in such a convincing fashion. This was a historic run through the playoffs, and not just because we won the Grey Cup but because we literally had to play 3 Grey Cup calibre teams and beat them in their own house to do it.

  32. If Matt is back...which I think he will be, we will be fine. Is it optimal?..well in my opinion in whats available yes I think so. Though he tends to seem immobile and throws it away at first sign of trouble, thats not 100 percent correct. I think that the last month or so the offence evolved into one that realized it can push and should push a ball...Matt can make deep throws...he has shown that and more liberal Streveler with Matt (which I know both would be open to if it results in what we just accomplished) can be just as effective as what Collaros and Strev did With Zack...he has now brought himself back into the 550K+ or more neighborhood....but..and big but...I still believe he is at major risk to be one good Simoni away from being on the shelf again...even though he showed otherwise for us..we kept him clean, but you can't count on that all year, and to sign Atrev back as wel...which we should be he is gonna need close to 150-200k possibly incentive laden so we are looking at prob 750 to 800k for them. We can prob get Matt coming off injury at 500k max..he doesn't garner more than that especially off injury and I think the day of the 700-800k QB was an anomally and teams saw how it can hinder you in the grand scheme..Hello BC A Strev/Nichols combo would prob have us in a combined 650-700k total, that 50-100k surplus can go a long way to bumping up extensions for guys like Rose..Jefferson..Sayles..Bryant.. The Arbuckle love is rolling the dice..he was decent but not other worldly and still green...as was Dane Evans and look what happened when film was out on him to be studied for a big game, and he seen schemes that he wasn't familiar with, the pressure coming at him from all areas, not to mention the pressure of the big game...he wilted..crumpled...did not lead..he looked just like he was...a back-up inexperienced QB...Why do you think the Cat's have gone on record saying they want Masoli back??... Look what experience and been there done that does in regards to Collaros...vet experience...seen it all before...limited time with the team and he went in and won...He got put on a good team..within a good system, wasn't asked to do it all himself (as shown by his stats) and won a Cup Same can happen with Matt, as much as many hate on him, he was 7-2 when he got hurt (should have been 8-1 if not for that T.O collapse) so he can win...as shown by his record since Banjo Bowl 2016 when he took over

  37. You know, if you have to make up phony stats to make your point, then the real point is that you just have a hate on for the coach and won't admit when you are incorrect. I started the apology thread because for too long LaPo has been the scapegoat for a lot of Bomber woes that go well beyond him. Like Richie Hall (whose "bend but don't break" defense I was not a fan of, but he has forgotten more about defensive coaching then I will ever know, so who am I to judge? And once the personnel issues got fixed in the back end and he trusted his players to execute a man defensive coverage system, look how well it played out in the playoffs). So, to counter your "facts": We scored on 9 of 11 drives at one point in the game, including every subsequent drive in response to every Ticat scoring drive. In the 4th quarter when everyone complains that he goes conservative, LaPo's offence took the ball with 12 and a half minutes left and put together a 10 play drive that killed 6 and a half minutes off the clock and but for a 50/50 call by the command centre, ended with a TD pass to Bailey. But even still that FG got us up by 3 scores and put the final nail in the coffin for all intents and purposes. As for your stats, of the 6 drives of 4 plays or fewer, half of those came in the first quarter until the offence found it's legs, so he made adjustments it would seem. Two of those 4 play or less drives ended in TDs, so not good enough for you that we scored quickly? And the last one was the O'Shea mercy run at the end of the game to give Hamilton their only turnover. I assume you aren't counting the kneel downs as a short 4 play or less drive as well. As for the drive starts, we DID in fact score a TD on a drive that started at the Hamilton 50. The other drive that we started at the Hamilton 50 was in the last 3 minutes when we were up 33-12 and O'Shea wanted to kill the clock, so he ran 3 running plays rather than push for a first down passing or try a "rub it in" FG, so I'll forgive LaPo for not being a jerk and running up the score. The Hamilton 24 starting point was late in the 4th when again they were killing the clock and kicked the FG that made it 33-12. We never started a drive at the Hamilton 41. As for the FGs "deep" in enemy territory, Medlock's FG attempts were from 48 (miss), 45, 17 (right at the end of the first half), 39, 41, 17 (after the called back TD), and 18 (after the fumble recovery by Jeffcoat). Save for the last FG where we started at the Hamilton 24, the average drive start for the Bombers on Medlock's FGs was the Winnipeg 35 yard line, and no drive started beyond the Winnipeg 44. LaPo is not perfect, and his offence does not light it up. That is by design. He says "the ball is the Cup - protect the ball and you win the Cup" He took a QB with some limited mobility and above average game smarts and made him a very efficient high percentage QB who won games most of the time. He took a 2nd yr QB out of Division 2 who had raw running skills but questionable accuracy and used that skill set to create an offensive weapon that no other team has. He took a QB with more escapability but an injury history and opened up a deep passing game again. 3 QBs, 3 different skill sets, and 3 times he made the offence work around them in one season. He was given a powerful o-line and run game and built on those players who were his best players, and mixed in a pass game with decent but no superstar receivers. And he delivered the #1 scoring offence 3 years in a row prior to this. And he won the Grey Cup for the second time. Oh yeah, just in case anyone forgot he's also a decent human being, he and his family also made this their home, and he quietly did all this after losing his mother this year. So excuse me for asking people to maybe get off his back and cut him some slack instead of asking for his head on a platter after every loss, and even after a few wins (which the team has done a lot more of than losing these past 4 years). He made big adjustments at the half in Calgary, and we rolled to a win. Saskatchewan keyed against the run all game, so he and Collaros worked the deep ball to counter it, and we won. And his team protected the ball, dominated the line, and worked in 8 receivers (including a QB!) so no one guy could get keyed on in the Grey Cup. So forget the apologies if you aren't big enough to eat crow when you say he is predictable or never changes or changes too much when things are going well, but how about a thank you? Coaches and players on other teams seem to hold him in pretty high regard, maybe we could acknowledge that a bit instead of "knowing" how bad he is.

  47. The minute the Eastern Final was over Evans thought they won the Grey Cup. We did that in 2001 walking into Montreal's Olympic Stadium thinking the Stamps would just bow down to our supposed greatness. I think Evans & the Ti Cats felt the same way. That the Bombers would be pushovers to the Ti Cats supposed greatness. Instead, the Bombers showed up nasty, ready & willing to do whatever it took to win. If it meant bloodying a few Ti Cats noses then so be it. Evans & the rest of the Cats wanted nothing to do with it.
