  1. LaPo came under harsh criticism here by me & others on a daily basis but this playoff season when it counted he guided our offense brilliantly. He was a huge reason why we won the Grey Cup. As I criticized him then I can sure can give him credit where credit is due in winning our championship. I wish him well in Ottawa.

  3. I’m not a big LaPolice guy as far as our OC spot goes but to say he wasn’t responsible on some level for our running success is up there with the dumbest stuff ever written on this forum.

I will laugh a little bit if Lapo poaches Streveler. I just don't think Lapo really knows how to develop a guy like that and think it would hinder his development. Really think that Pierce though can be the guy to help Streveler become the star he has the potential to be. Pierce understands being a dual threat type qb and having that warrior mentality. I am excited at the idea of Pierce running the show. Really think the biggest problem with Lapo was his in game stuff, and I think a guy like PIerce who has been in there as a player will have a better understandng of when to play it safe and when to go for it.

  7. Buck has been a coach here since 2014. He has worked with the running backs and wide receivers and has had 4 years to work under Lapo. Pretty much the career path of every OC. I think he is ready and am excited to see what he does. For those wanting an experienced OC, who would you want Chaodelaine? McAdoo?

Yes, but I think you know what I meant. We really didn't see the full extent of our offense until Collaros took control. He & Streveler were brilliant. Nichols play never seemed to reach the level we saw in the playoffs. The offense seemed to suit Zack's style of play to a tee.

  9. I think the fact we are a run focused offence has more to do about being last in passing... IIRC, we were 1st in rushing... I think Lapo had just little a bit of a hand in the successful run game... And yes the defence was better than Championship calibre, but the offence needs to put points on the board in order for us to win. Our D > O, but the Bombers played complimentary football- all three phases... gosh that playoff run was beautiful... I am not saying we won the Grey Cup on the back of our Offense, but they still managed to put up 30+ on two very good teams and enough to win in a grind it out defensive battle. Give credit where credit is due. Lapo is not the greatest OC there ever was, but he's pretty darn good.

  10. Milanovich is making 750k in the NFL as QB coach... Edmonton is rumoured to have approached him for the HC job... With everything that is going on with him... I don't think he will settle for an OC role with us... Even if we are the..... ******* GREY CUP CHAMPS!!!! Damn- that does not get old! lol

I’m sure buck will devise his own offensive schemes. I highly doubt you’d see a carbon copy of lapo’s system.

  12. I think I'd stay within, And promote Buck. He's been studying under Lapo for a number of years now. Id love to see what he can do. Just my opinion.

  14. Congratulations Lapo! Underrated around here but a huge contributer to our longterm success. I know he wasn't happy about not being able to interview in Saskatchewan last year but I think we saved you. Ottawa is a good fit.

  15. Best of luck, LaPo. Despite the criticism he is a very good OC. He also legitimately cares about this city, and this franchise. Glad he was part of the Cup winning team. Everybody be cool give the man some due respect.

  16. I agree he's a bit over-hyped, but man, dude played a month on a broken foot and absolutely laid it all on the line for this organization. You can't tell me he wasn't an instrumental part of our O this year. Even when his game was off, defenses had to plan and play around him, he completely changed the dynamic when he subbed in for our starter - whether it was Nichols or Collaros. If nothing else, he's the best QB sneaker in the league and that alone is worth something.

And should be mentioned..losing Lapo should be..and is probably one of the least impactful issues we need to adress/face this off season We can still run the same offence if we want..its property of the Bombers..not Lapo..and we will most likely run a variation of it as our base..with new tweaks and influences..and change terminology but with basically all our offensive starters being back pretty much..there will be minimal issues

Strev wont follow lap..you can take that to the bank And as mentioned.. Pierce is not a rookie..or inexperienced.. he is/was heavily involved in game plan creation as well as a lot of what we did on offence..like mentioned he just didnt coach QB's It was Lapos base basic offence..which we seen when Peirce played in it..and coached within it..but there are things within it that are Peierce influenced. Lapo over the years has really stagnated QB's and not allowed them to really reach full potential..played a safe conservative game that got him...one Cup over course of his career..Buck will most likely allow his guys to be more aggressive and attack things moreso than Lapo did..and therein is where any QB in our system moving forward will develop more

PLAP called plays for Streveler to sit in the pocket and throw the ball under 10 yards or in the play offs call every single play to be a run play with Strev either taking it himself or handing it off. The one time he called a passing play it did fool Hamilton because literally the previous 30 plays he was given was a run play. Pierce (we hope) would call plays that would have Streveler moving the pocket and throwing on the run. We hope Pierce wouldn't call 30 consecutive running plays. When Strev started those games in his first season it was a decent balance of run and passes which kept Montreal off balance. LaPo fell in love with the bull rushing run plays and kept running with it over and over again. This is why I don't think Strev is a good fit in Ottawa and neither will Masoli be. Masoli became infinitely better in Hamilton once they changed the offense and used his strengths. Masoli had great success running to the sideline buying time and having lb'ers dropping from coverage to chase him and then for him to loop balls over their heads to the receivers coming back.

No he didn't. His best season with the Bombers he had 14 TD's and 18 ints. He also only had 1 good season with BC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Pierce I loved the guy as a player and he put his heart on the field, but I think your memory of him dominating might be skewed. Khari had a tonne of big games... Buck played with a tonne of heart and with a crap offense and laid it out on the field. Big time heart... wouldn't classify him as some QB rifling big bombs down the field.

  21. Also why do people think Nichols would suddenly retire just to be a QB coach? If the Blue don't want him , every other team will at least offer him back up QB money with incentives.

  22. So with this news is Lapo our O-Coordinator in 2022?

  23. I'd be ok with MBT as our qb next year. With a good ol and a running game, I think he'd win games here. As of right now though, I'm working under the assumption that Nichols will be back.

Also potential for Collaros to follow LaPo to Ottawa, but that may be a risk Desjardins is unwilling to take with his Job on the line.

  30. Huge, huge loss for us. Lapo is known around the league as an offensive guru. I hope our offense doesn't take too big of a set-back next year. I'm happy for Lapo though, he is a genuinely great guy.

Khari was a total gunslinger but Buck was not some risk adverse check down Charlie. Guy used his legs to make plays and took shots down the field.

Gonna agree with Brandon. Buck didn’t have a full season as starter until he was in Winnipeg. “In his prime” should refer to a season or three, not a series of 4 or 8 games... Khari was a gun slinger when he first came over. 5 and 6 receiver sets, high scoring games, 46 Passing TDs in a season...

  34. I am just excited to have a former qb as offensive coordinator. Think that is really going to improve the play calling. Was a huge weakness of lapolice. Guy just lacks that situational awareness in game.

  35. Yeah it might be nice to have a 700 yard receiver or two next year
    2 points
  36. I would agree. I suspect that Harris has lower numbers all around going forward. Demski too. Lapo just loves guys like those two, however I would expect the rest of the receivers to have a ump in the numbers.

  37. Lapo cant just take people..we have to agree to let em talk..and doubt we would..and why would buck leave here..where he is entrenched.. in a good squad too, to somewhere across the country for same position..and a poorer team..never happen

Buck is more of a gunslinger..go at em type guy..and with a Strev in his stable he will surely progress now. As for other comments on Strev..he has already progressed and like mentioned in Grey Cup he made some throws he wouldn't have before..and its his progress made in pocket and with throwing.. mainly due to his platform..he has one now. Out of draft one of his knocks was he had next to no platform and it hampered him in some of his throws. He was considered really good in his mid to intermediate range stuff and consistantly put ball in a receivers catch radius and was able to throw guys open..but his deep shots needed work because he was not set..his platform..his only real knock.. that and experience which he is getting When I was in CAli at that development camp talked with the QB coaches and we watched this and last season footage..along with his College film as we get access to it and you can see the development..and they also commented he is in a system not suited to him..and would stunt him..and I pretty sure Buck knows and sees that..but we were what we were and changes weren't being made last year Lapos departure is the best thing for all our QBs and if Matt is back next yr..u will see a difference in him too

  44. That's what Pierce is for and I suspect Buck will be given a larger role in the design and implementation of the offense next year. Agree with everything you've said here. BTW, during the Grey Cup game, I saw Streveler get chased out of the pocket, roll out to his right, and drop the ball into a spot near the sideline where Lawler was working his way back to Streveler and they made a perfect throw and catch to extend a drive. I then saw Streveler stand tall in the pocket and follow that up with a perfect 25 yard strike to Andrew Harris straight down the middle of the field that was an indefensible bang-bang play that was executed to perfection. All done on a bum leg. He is well on his way to becoming exactly the kind of QB you have described even with Lapo as his OC.
