    2019-20 CFL Offseason

I'm glad 1290 took the time to weigh in on it in between 2 hours of the impact Nick Shore has on the Jets lineup

  2. This team needs to put up banners for all 11 Grey Cup winning teams inside the stadium. There is nothing really recognizing those teams in the stadium common areas

  3. Well, I'm not a slacker.... Already fretting about how we are going to defend our 2019 Grey Cup Championship

  4. You will never understand that I will forever be thrilled with winning the Grey Cup in 2019? That's pretty sad. No matter how hard I fan, it won't affect the on-field product. I would never expect anyone in this management to take any years off. I wouldn't blame them, though, if they thought this was a good time to reload in some areas and let higher priced talent go and relying on scouting to replace them. If you think that anyone in management and coaching is going to take their foot of the gas, you haven't been paying attention. And, yeah, if this team starts 0-5, that's going to suck; however, I will the 107th Grey Cup to reflect upon rather than being that a-hole who boos the team if they struggle in season.

  5. I honestly don't care one iota what happens this off season, in terms of player retention. I got a Cup in my lifetime which I was legitimately worrying night not happen, so at this point I can just die happy. Ha ha. Whatever happens this next season... Meh.

  6. Until this year's championship win, those banners would have served as little more than a reminder of our seemingly endless drought. Now that we have a new banner... let's start hanging some fabric

  8. I will never forget the HC LaPo led 2011 Bombers driving the length of the field on the opening drive, down to the 1 yard line, at home, sold out stadium, against a terrible Argos team. A Kicked a field goal, even with Swaggerville D, field position, going with a decently strong wind, and home crowd to bail out the gamble. He lost my confidence as a HC with that decision for good. That scared mentality is in his coaching DNA We also found a way to lose that game.

  9. One of the drawbacks of being a successful team with a lot of talented pieces. This offseason will be a real test for Walters (and team) to see how the fill they holes.

  10. To be fair, there isn't anywhere for Dinwiddie to go in CGY. Dickenson is going to be the guy for years to come.

  14. I wouldn't lump the west final in there with the good games. The play calling almost cost us that game. Thankfully the defense came ready to play. Grey cup was quite good as was the semi final.

  15. I’m one of those who did not and frankly still do not like Lapolice as an OC or HC. Yes I will agree that his offended put up some good numbers especially this year and yes he did win the grey cup and for that I congratulate him. For his position as HC for Ottawa I also congratulate him and wish him well. However it still does not take away the fact his offences are predictable and he continues to coach with a not lose instead of win attitude. He had a workhorse in Harris, an anomaly in Streveler, who he almost killed, and was rescued by a QB who hadn’t played all year. The stars were aligned so to speak. With that said out of the 21 games he called this year the Western semi final and the Grey Cup were the best two games of balanced offence I have ever seen him call and for that thank you and many accolades! Let’s see what happens in Ottawa, should he prove me wrong I will be front and centre cheering him on.

    Did You Know..

Did You Know... 👁‍🗨 that #1990 - is now a Vestige - (a trace of something that is disappearing or no longer exists.) 👁‍🗨 Strange, that I look to two plays involving 2 point conversions as fond memories, and they both involve Calgary. Firstly, Janarion Grant’s brilliant run back return for 2 points in a 29-28 Bomber win. And, The safety we nailed Mitchell with, early 2nd Q, semi-final Calgary. Kind of feel like it set the tone. 👁‍🗨 Remind me. How great is a CFL record 16 knockdowns by a defensive lineman? 👁‍🗨 LaPolice will soon learn that having a Rideau Hall is not the same as having a Ritchie Hall. 👁‍🗨 Yeah, I don’t even care about Christmas this year, I already got the cup I wanted. Besides, if I talk about the season too much someone’s liable to start calling it Big Christmas. 👁‍🗨 Contrary to popular belief, Coach LaPolice did not fly directly to Ottawa for his signing announcement, he went for shorter, safer routes, Sudbury, Kingston, that sort of thing. Nobody knows why Medlock accompanied him...

  18. I think I've posted this before, but looking back now, that parachute jump seems totally unnecessary. The Germans were already beat by that point in the war and were only a few weeks from surrendering completely. Senseless waste of human life to do parachute jumps with high casualty rates, with an enemy on the verge of giving up anyway. That's really a sad story.

Yes, I don't dislike the approach. But, kids handling this type equipment, car starting 30 years after going into storage... I just feel like it's going to be messy.

  20. I care. As important as winning was, and has taken some stress away, this team needs to re-build the damage 29 years of no Cups had on the fan base. Going back to a non factor is a huge no-no for a season ticket holder like myself, or bringing in/back people who don't go to games. I am not taking hours out of my day to go watch some bullshit. It is only going to be more enticing to stay at home and watch, they MUST keep people believing they want to come to the stadium, it is the lifeline of the team. This is the best chance they've had in decades to do it. Getting comfortable is a giant, giant, giant mistake.

  21. Yeah.. BC is a good situation for him. They struggled last season. He gets to go into a situation with a top CFL passer and if he can turn things around he will look good for a head coaching job in a couple years.

  24. I'd love if we would stop continuously looking backwards at our history and start focusing on the future, Bug Grant, Milt Stegall, Charles Roberts, or whomever have nothing whatsoever to do with the 2019 Bombers. Their time was then, and they got their due.

  30. When the Vikings opened their new stadium a few years ago, Bud Grant was the first guy to blow the new horn. The Vikings honor their past, and the Blue should honor theirs too.

  31. https://globalnews.ca/video/6245010/we-are-the-champions-winnipeg-celebrates-bombers-grey-cup-win/ I hope, if Bud Grant is capable of traveling, that they bring him out for the first game this year with the Cup. That would mean a lot to the long-term Bomber fans who gutted it out those 29 long years. Just a thought.

  32. I had seen that and was glad to read that. Bob's a pro, and like he said, he gets it. The only thing I could actually see being true, is the Bombers being pissed off at Darrin Bauming and refusing to speak to him. I fully expect that to eventually blow over, tho, as everyone has a job to do...

  33. Wish Lapo all the best. Overall, he has earned another HC shot. I will really miss the game planning and first half Lapo. The incredibly shrinking playbook, 2nd half Lapo..... not so much.

  40. Buck has been heavily involved in the game plan creation the last few years..along with play creation..he will be fine and who's to say a lot of what we did wasnt devised by him.. Creating and running an offense isnt difficult and all teams basically run the same basic stuff with variations and subtle differences..and things keyed to players on roster.

I will laugh a little bit if Lapo poaches Streveler. I just don't think Lapo really knows how to develop a guy like that and think it would hinder his development. Really think that Pierce though can be the guy to help Streveler become the star he has the potential to be. Pierce understands being a dual threat type qb and having that warrior mentality. I am excited at the idea of Pierce running the show. Really think the biggest problem with Lapo was his in game stuff, and I think a guy like PIerce who has been in there as a player will have a better understandng of when to play it safe and when to go for it.

  43. Although American players had been recruited by teams before, Winnipeg was the first to import a large contingent. These hirings were controversial and eventually led to present-day rules governing player imports. As a result of their bold manoeuvre, the ‘Pegs became the first western team to win the Grey Cup. The 1935 championship game was played in Hamilton against the Hamilton Tigers, with the ‘Pegs victorious 18–12. Fritz Hanson was the star of the game, especially on kick returns, setting a record with 300 punt-return yards. Quarterback Russ Rebholz also threw two touchdown passes. The 1935 Grey Cup game was also the first to be broadcast nationally on radio. https://thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/winnipeg-blue-bombers

  44. I think the fact we are a run focused offence has more to do about being last in passing... IIRC, we were 1st in rushing... I think Lapo had just little a bit of a hand in the successful run game... And yes the defence was better than Championship calibre, but the offence needs to put points on the board in order for us to win. Our D > O, but the Bombers played complimentary football- all three phases... gosh that playoff run was beautiful... I am not saying we won the Grey Cup on the back of our Offense, but they still managed to put up 30+ on two very good teams and enough to win in a grind it out defensive battle. Give credit where credit is due. Lapo is not the greatest OC there ever was, but he's pretty darn good.

  47. He's only been what he is told to do..and game planned for..he cant fo rogue and do his own thing or his ass would be firmly planted on bench..or PR If put in an offence to augment what he can do with his legs and the conundrums he could cause defenses with his running threat he'd be lights out..Lapo hasnt done that here He is a passer if allowed to..and with more reps and plays doing so..would get better and better..He threw for over 6000 yards and I believe 50 some odd TD's...4100 of it in his senior season..a QB coming out of college with the label attached to them as a runner dont do that..they pass for 2000..2800 yards a year..Much like Fajardo was labelled a runner..was only used as that but for a chance..ans grew into it..that's after 4 years of college as a QB and his 4th year in cfl..Strev has had 2 years of college experience and 2 years here and from what he has accomplished so far being so raw is pretty amazing..given another year or so of grooming by the time he hits 26 he's gonna be a top dawg..and u can quote me on that now..
