    2019-20 CFL Offseason

Got to give credit to the Bomber coaches for getting Hansen in half a season to a level where he could contribute to the team in a very meaningful way.

  3. So if you drop the Canadian ratio requirements how long until they start to push to homogenize the rules and we're left with just another 2nd rate american football league? Keep the Canadian in the Canadian Football League.

  4. I don't think anyone on this board (other than yourself) are entertaining him as more than a second string WIP at this time. No one is entertaining him as a starter (yet).

I do not think that this "global expansion" was all about finding better players. I see that as a bonus if such can be found, but more likely it has to do with advertising. International companieslike Coca cola, Adidas, and Ford are more likely to advertise and pay well for programming that are watched in Europe, Asia, South /America etc.

  7. Been doing a little bit a research on the quality of talent being made available for the global draft. Winnipeg is in a good position because they already have an impact player but next season there will be two players on the roster and 3 more on the practice roster. Given that Winnipeg won the Cup I guess i'm assuming we will be picking 9th overall. I think last year the draft order was random. Clearly that would benefit Winnipeg. However, I'm trying to get a sense for whether or not there will be 9 players of substance available in case we draft 9th overall. Well. Its hard to research but most of the nations have released lists of available players and there is already some pretty good talent I can identify. Finland has 2 players who played American college ball. They are defensive lineman and didn't do a whole lot in college but its still better than nothing. France actually seems to have the best high end talent. They have three players who were good enough to get NFL shots included 2 receivers and 1 6 foot 4 defensive back. The two receivers went back to Germany and played after their NFL cracks didn't pan out and both were highly productive in the the GFL. Germany has a large list of players available. And I feel like German typically has the most talent available out of all the global nations. One of the players on the German list was one of the top runningbacks in the GFL. Maybe he can use that speed and strength to be a pretty good special teams player. Another German League player was one of the best pass rusher's in the league. Maybe he's another Hansen? Mexico has not yet released a list of available players. That could be the real wildcard. But based on the limited amount of research you can do from a keyboard and mouse I do feel like the level of talent available will be much deeper than last year where they basically ended up being one high quality player in Thiadric Hansen. https://www.americanfootballinternational.com/germany-releases-list-of-45-athletes-attending-cfl-germany-combine/ https://www.americanfootballinternational.com/france-announces-23-athletes-for-cfl-france-combine/ https://www.americanfootballinternational.com/italian-federation-announces-cfl-italian-combine-athletes/ https://www.americanfootballinternational.com/great-britain-releases-list-of-athletes-for-cfl-uk-combine/ https://www.americanfootballinternational.com/17-players-to-showcase-their-skills-at-cfl-finland-combine/ WR Anthony Dable - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl-aAGcBxTQ

  9. Nothing to do with Maurice....any firing would be strictly a "do something for the sake of doing something" move. The talent isn't there for this team to be any better than they are. They're rebuilding for sure...

  10. Would any other coach improve the crap we have on defense? This is a clear issue with lack of talent on the D.

  11. I completely disagree. Streveler isn't a pocket passing QB. He's a football player. He can take those hits, just the same way any receiver/running back could. And he proved it when he was running over linemen and linebackers. Could he get hurt? Sure. But that's football.

  12. Streveler can't continue to take the punishment he absorbed last year if he wants his career to last longer than 2-3 more years, NFL or CFL. It's up to him to decide what his career will look like but it would be both reckless and dumb for him to continue smashing through brick walls thinking there will be no lasting effect. Hopefully he sees the light.

  14. And in the CFL having 2 qbs on the field simultaneously playing for one team is illegal which makes no sense to me when Streveler could have lined up as a slot or running back & be fed the ball. The Grand Poobahs in this league who make the rules need their heads examined for not allowing talent to come to the fore.

  15. Streveler is almost definitely gone, he doesn't need to be a quarterback in the NFL, he can be an athlete and teams will find ways to use him.

I was happy to read Walter's comments on how much work the Global Scouting is. I mean its too bad its so much extra work but I'm happy that he doesn't view the work as optional. There was a time before Walters took over where Winnipeg wasn't even willing to turn over every stone to find a helpful Canadian player. I remember talking to a CFL agent at that time when Winnipeg had serious snapping problems and they weren't even willing to go an look at a decent young snapper who was living in Winnipeg who ended up signing with a different team. Like they wouldn't even put in the effort. Now Winnipeg is clearly of the mindset that if there is going to be global roster spots they will do whatever it takes to maximize the talent they will be bringing in for those roles. Its refreshing and no wonder Winnipeg ended up with the best global player from last year.

So, this had been bothering me, too........then I remembered. The movie isn't actually about HIM......the movie is about this reporter for a magazine, that is doing a story on Mr Rogers. So the guy who is the reporter is the main character. Fred Rogers is just the subject of his piece, therefore Supporting Actor.

  18. True- but the way series are formatted these days is a lot more palatable... having three series with 24,hour long episodes is a bit much and easily leads to fatigue... but these 1hr, 10 episode seasons are really good and always leaves you wanting more it iseems... I think this new serial format will go over very well...

  19. Completely agree... if anything Maurice is getting more out of this team then many others would. I also dont fault Chevy.... it's not his fault that Buff really screwed them over. Had we the extra cap space... we would of been able to retain Myers and picked up another guy on D to help with the depth.

  20. I'm no expert, but I doubt there is anything in Canadian Labour law that forces Canadian companies to hire X% of Canadian workers. The CFL has the ratio because of it's own rules and because they negotiated X number of Canadians with the union. Changing the number, which happens fairly regularly, requires the players signing off.

Which is just one of the reasons I stopped watching the NFL. They have superior talent but produce an inferior product.

  26. Tkachuk is a shitdisturber, no doubt, but that was a clean hit. He even slowed up and backed into him. Is he looking for that hit because it's Kassian? Probably, but it was clean IMO.

  27. Possibly the kind of guy who will still be drafted as a potential player to pay off down the road once his NFL opportunities are gone. So there is a guy like that who's heading to the NFL now. But when you look at the France lineup you've got 3 guys who went to the NFL already and a now in a position to try the CFL. I also keep hearing that the Mexican calibre of play is getting pretty good but I've yet to see an intriguing mexican prospect. Hopefully there are some gem's this year.

  28. Yeah.. It truely has mostly to do with trying to increase revenues and interest in the CFL more than it has to do with upgrading talent. They could always add more americans if the only motivation is talent. The only place where I see it being more about upgrading talent is at the Canadian College level. Less Canadians are playing football and eventually that is going to downgrade the Canadian product. So they are allowing for global players to come up to Canadian College and eventually count as a Canadian.

  31. As much as I don't like it. I completely agree. The NFL is seeing a new trend of athletes being used anyway they can be. Streveler fits that bill. Maybe he won't stick, but he most definitely will get a shot.

  32. Just because he's wanted back doesn't mean he's a starter which you imply. If he starts we win 8 games tops. As a backup used in certain packages he's valuable. But that's it. I don't see the Bombers eyeing him as a starter.

I do agree with you, but Hansen was regarded as the most pro ready player in the draft. It wasnt like he is out doing his potential.

  34. Thanks for posting this! I know the global players thing is probably annoying for CFL GM's and coaches. But, it's fascinating from the perspective of trying to find some really raw talent. The Bombers found a real gem in Hansen. Could become a rotational pass rusher.

  36. Let's face it: The Jets had a good November. They've been a .500 team otherwise and likely wouldn't be there without #37 between the pipes. This season unravelled before it even began.

  37. I don't see Strev making it down south.... it's not like he lit up the league up here with his passing. He's to raw to play receiver / tight end.... I see him back and with a long CFL career.

  43. What MOS was supposed to say, one supposes: “I don't think he’ll be ready to play. It’s been well documented that his throwing shoulder is screwed, and since his last lower body injury, Matt has the mobility of a fence post. He may never be able to perform at a high level ever again.”

  46. Kelowna is one of the most beautiful places to live in. It has everything one could need or want. Great climate, beautiful scenery and hardly any wind. You know, most people figure Windsor is associated with salt. I think the hint is in the first 4 letters of the name. It’s windier here. I don’t think it rivals Winnipeg for wind, but.... The climates are similar but Windsor has more humidity. Going from Winnipeg to Kelowna was an experience and moving to Windsor topped that. Windsor is bigger and more spread out so there is more car travel but I’m getting used to it now. Windsor is the most southerly part of Canada and is actually more south than Detroit, our neighbour. It’s weird. But at least I got to see the Jets play the Red Wings and the Eastern final between Hamilton and Edmonton. So far, so good..

  47. The Jets never played or made the playoffs from 1996 to 2015. The Blue Jays made the playoffs for the first time since 1993 (22 years). What are you trying to say? Should we try to miss the playoffs until 2034?
