  1. It's not like we're the Riders, where players take less money to leave.

I wonder why SJ Green requested his release? The thought of Nichols throwing no balls his way scared him away?

  8. Wore #22 with Boston College and with the New Jersey Generals in the USFL. Then went to the NFL where QBs must wear a jersey number between 1 and 19, so he wore #2 with Chicago and New England. Then came to the CFL and resurrected #22 with BC. When he went to Calgary, #22 was retired (Tom Forzani) so he wore #20 there. Once in Toronto he wore #2. Back to the NFL with Buffalo where he wore #7 (kicker Steve Christie wore #2 at that time I believe), and kept #7 when he went to San Diego. Finally, he ended up in New England where he once again wore #2. And now you know...…… the rest of the story.

  9. Now that you are officially gone, I will echo these thanks for your role as our QB on the field, but I'd also like to thank you for the person you were off the field. Making Winnipeg your home for your family, staying during the winter for promotional purposes, for the love you showed the community, even when that love was not returned by those who forgot that behind the player was a human being. And a HUGE thank you for your family's $10,000 donation to the Children's Hospital Foundation. You were first class all the way in my books, and I hope you have a happy, healthy, and successful continuation of your career in Toronto. You will always stand as a Grey Cup champion quarterback who helped end the drought for Winnipeg.

  12. Would hate to lose Jefferson but if Toronto backs up the brinks truck I could understand it. They’re going to be very agressive in FA. But let’s remember how well that worked out for B.C. typically the teams that over spend in FA often fall short in the regular season. You need to draft and scout new American talent in this league, over paying vets won’t do it.

I think Zontar has me blocked so it might be worth someone's trouble to ask them if they've got an update on all that voter fraud.

MBT is not going to be happy being Nichol's short-yardage QB. Nichols has CFL experience, and little else, on MBT. Nichols doesn't have Andrew Harris and/or our O-line any more. He can't run the ball himself, isn't fast enough or nimble enough to evade pressure, and doesn't have the arm to put the ball into tight spots consistently. Pinball isn't going to be happy paying Nichol's 350K/yr for 3 years to throw the ball away and/or turtle.

  19. Jefferson left the 2015 champion Esks to follow his coach to Sask. He loves that guy....and he also loves Osh, is my understanding. So....there's that, anyhow.

  20. Offer Jefferson the same deal they gave Bighill, 3 even 4 year contract at $250,000. Lock him up.

i really don't understand the thinking that if the Argos give Willie 300k, they won't be able to pay anyone else. It probably has the affect of limiting them from signing ONE extra big ticket guy. If you can sign Willie at 300k and a rookie at league minimum instead of two guys at 180k, that's about the extent of the impact it has. I'd pay Willie. He's worth it.

  22. Free agency is the time players can shop around and get their ego stroked. If you don't talk to teams how are you going to gauge your market worth? As a fan I really, really want Willie back. As a guy approaching retirement I can appreciate how a little more money can be useful and don't hate him getting some.
    3 points
  23. he's going to hear their pitch...check out the digs...nothing more..nothing less...if anything it will let Walters know what he is competing against...for all we know he may be willing to pay more what T.O offers and had that set aside, so could work in the Bombers favour and get him for less than they thought...
    3 points
  24. Dude, he could be cut at any time and not get paid, his career can be over at any moment, especially in the CFL you gotta make the money while you can. He turned down less money to get a cup last year with Winnipeg. I don’t blame him one bit if Toronto is willing to over spend.

  28. Farhan Lalji @FarhanLaljiTSN Nichols deal is 350k in hard money. Up to 560k with incentives. He made 450k with #Bombers last season. Clearly he is being paid as #Argos starter. @CFLonTSN @TSN_Sports

Roosevelt is the guy you add in week 10, when your top WR goes down and you're not certain your trust the back up. At this point, I agree, we don't need him.

  31. I'm actually not sure MBT couldn't be a long term answer - Just getting the same performance they got out of him last season would have him on track for a 5000 Yard season and a 2:1 td/int ratio with 68% completion and a pretty decent QB rating. MBT played well last year on a pretty bad team....

Nothing about the 'trinity' says that they will do this... Streveler was not 'anointed' #2 - he got the job when Alex Ross was injured and AFTER Durant retired.... History says we will sign a backup with some CFL experience and bring in another 1-2 QBs to compete with McGuire for PR spot
    3 points
  34. Yes I did, he was on their roster throughout the 2018 season and ran 3rd down sneaks.

  37. preach it. me personally, I'm getting a little tired of all the "grey cup this" and "rings that" on this board. People are getting blinded by the bling, if this keeps up pretty soon the Bombers will have a hubcap on a chain that they'll award on the sidelines after tackles.

  39. funny too with Derek Taylor pulling his best Rod Penison...saying he's not surprised Sask hasn't contacted Willie because they have to be very comfortable with Hghes and Leonard...yeah a 36 year old end who coming off surgery and at around 200k a year and Leonard...a 28 yr old guy who been on 3 teams in 5 years and has had 25 sacks at a whopping 5 a year clip...yup....I'd be super stoked too

We knew NOTHING about Strev and he had even less experience than McGuire when he had to start the season 2 years ago. People need to relax. McGuire is gonna be QB2 unless he poops the bed in camp.
    2 points
  42. I suspect he is wanting a contract with decent guaranteed money. And is probably getting futures contracts with little to none or camp invites.

Agree. But plenty of time is left in the off season. Ideally we'd get Franklin (or some one similar) on a cheap deal, and either bring back knight or find another athletic run threat qb to go into camp with mcguire and collaros.
    2 points
  44. I like McGuire's potential and upside but it makes me nervous going into the season with a guy who has three career passing attempts as the number 2.
    2 points
  45. Neither did Streveler or Evans or any backup.. Arbuckle was a backup. I mean eventually you go with your guy over guys who have shown all they are is a backup. Veterans are good for rooms but playing? Gimme the unproven Mcguire over the proven at best Backup. The younger guy needs to play in order to see what you got. At worst Mcguire is 1 of the vets some want to sign, but maybe he's more. I think he is. His mechanics and smarts in limited reps have been pretty solid.
