I was just thinking today that we're probably not going to see a season start until Labour Day. If we get ANY CFL football this year, I'm calling it a win. It's one of the only things I really want in life right now (...other than good health for everyone...)6 points -

Do you go hunting for obscure things to support your agenda that its not big deal? I wouldnt use that guy as my doctor after his remarks suggesting flu is worse. He didnt take into account the spread of a pandemic. Or that COVID is more contagious and more deadly than the flu and the fact there is no vaccine. But sure, lets line up 1000 doctors and then make sure we follow the 1 who doesnt agree with the other 999.5 points -
As a lifelong CFL fan, we already know that the season doesn't really start until Labour Day anyhow.5 points

Favourite Blue Bombers Memory
rebusrankin and 3 others reacted to TrueBlue4ever for a topic
Have a ton of them, many memorable moments, was in Halifax when Milt broke the TD record so that one isn’t part of it. My favourite live game may now be last year’s West Final in Regina that I drove out for. But my best memory is October 9, 2005. My dad had turned 77 years old a few weeks earlier, and it was the Bombers’ 75th anniversary commemorative game. He had taken me to games for some two and a half decades, so I was just getting to the stage where I started to pay for the season ticket package to pay him back for all the years he had done it. We always wore our headsets to listen to the radio broadcast (I actually started doing it because I didn’t want to hear all the swearing around me as a young impressionable boy) from our East side seats, and he asked me on a few occasions where Bob and Bob (Irving and Cameron) broadcast from. So I thought a neat birthday present would be to show him. Called up Carol at the club offices, and asked if it would be possible to get a brief tour. She was wonderful as always and told us to get to the stadium an hour early and she would walk us through press row and the broadcast area. So we got a tour of the club offices and escorted up to media row, and down the hallway to where the CJOB booth was. Little did I know that she had made another request for my dad, one that she had hinted at to me but wasn’t sure could be pulled off since the pre-game broadcast was on when we arrived. As we got to the booth, we saw both Bobs and Mitch doing their pre-game thing, when they went to commercial, and Bob Irving came out and chatted up my dad for a few minutes, funnily enough more about family stuff rather than football, but Bob was as gracious as could be and giving of his time right in the middle of what was a broadcast session, and my dad was on cloud 9. My dad would pass away 12 years later to the day, so he never saw the drought end, but that was the best present I could ever give him and was the best memory I could ever have, thanks to the Bomber and CJOB staff. And yeah, everyone else knows that game as the Milt Stegall 4 catch, 4 TD game against BC, so it really put a bow on the day. Most magical memory of all for me.4 points -

Before we stampede off a cliff following sketchy reports, let us consider that when tobacco was being exposed as both carcinogenic and addictive, the tobacco industry trotted out their sophists to claim that it was all harmless, even beneficial. The same has been true for opiods, diazepam, and global climate change. I choose to believe that because the vast majority of bodies and people charged with overseeing our welfare has seen fit to deem the COVID19 pandemic as potentially catastrophic, the overwhelming consensus is accurate. After all, one US (GOP) politician brought a snowball into the Congress and said it was proof that there is no global warming.3 points -

That is the downside of the internet. People can always find something to support their viewpoint. There's no standards on what can get posted. It's why a guy like Trump can flat out lie and people will still buy it. So much misinformation out there and sadly the bulk of the population is just not equipped to understand how to separate good information from crap.2 points -
neat! I have a not-so-mild obsession with my hometown and its history. My grandfather was one of the "founding fathers", and received the Order of Manitoba for his work in designing the town. It's pretty great....2 points

Favourite Blue Bombers Memory

Tyrone Jones blowing through the line and smacking Roy Dewalt, over and over again, in a home game against BC. BC was "the team to beat" at that time so I am assuming it was in the 1985 or 1986 time frame. It was total domination, the Bombers just destroyed them. In my favorite memories, Tyrone always plays a big part.2 points -

Elimimian (CFLPA Pres) sent out a message telling players to "prepare for the worst case scenario".....which sounds about right. Tait had a good piece today about what some of the players are doing to stay healthy during this time. Will be tough to stay in football shape for 6 months or more when you can't get to a gym to lift weights...1 point

The Star Trek Thread!

Because swords are flashy. It has always stumped me that adversaries in sci-fi choose to use bladed weapons to fight when they could stand meters away and kill their opponents. But then, in firefights, everyone can be 10 meters away from each other and miss repeatedly. Plus, the number one bad guy must always be killed or captured by the number one good guy. And in horror movies, when someone (usually a scantily-clad young lady) is alone in a dark place and hears a scary noise, she is compelled to walk slowly towards it.1 point -

It will be interesting to see what happens with Star Trek. Disco season 3 is coming for sure (in post production now, though possibly delayed due to editing and SFX being done from "home"). Section 31 seems like it was pushed back which doesnt bother me because it sounds terrible. And the hot rumour is the next series is Pike which is hilarious since it means they were being dishonest about the need to move Disco away from "canon". Another rumour is they want to do a big cross over when all the shows air. One thing Ill say, Im still not convinced about the current team. Havent seen the Picard finale yet but as much I enjoyed it, and its way better than Disco, it still has the same fingerprints as Disco in terms of poor writing, lazy creative, convoluted plots etc Maybe I missed something but I still dont even understand the whole Borg sub-plot or why it was necessary. And making the android able to mind meld just so we could see the vision was as lazy of a plot contrivance in any trek series.1 point -

I think the biggest difference here is during WW2 for both Canada and Britain, the general public had more respect for their government and took pride in civic duty. Capitalism has caused the general public and your average Joe to think of himself first, instead of other citizens, most citizens now have very cynical views of government agendas. A law or action by any government, be it provincial or federal - is only as good as it is enforced. Trudeau can have 24-hour news conferences and pep rallies urging Canadians to stay home and practice social distancing, but until people are actually arrested or ticketed, his bark has no bite. Look at Taiwan - heavily hit by the SARS virus years earlier, they made sure they acted proactively - configuring supply chains so they could produce their own masks and medical equipment to be self-sufficient as they knew demand was going to skyrocket globally. They also rationed medical supplies on-hand to the general public, and made it illegal for businesses or individuals to profit by price-gouging (fines of up to $200,000 CAD) - both measures designed to prevent hoarding. They have even managed to keep schools and businesses open during the pandemic. Both Canada and Taiwan reported their first cases within days of each other... Taiwan as of today has 2 deaths, 215 cases, and a population of 27 million in an area about the size of Vancouver island. Canada has about 24 deaths and 2,091 cases... although we have a larger population (~37 million), it is much more spread out than Taiwan. End of the day - work at home (if possible), wash your hands and stay away from idiots - all good advice even before the pandemic broke out.1 point -

I wonder how the people of London felt in WW2 when the blitz was going on? People are supposed to sleep not stay up all night because of the barrage from the sky. We Canadians have had it so easy. The ONE TIME we are asked to sacrifice we ***** about not being able to go outside. The selfishness of people today is beyond words.1 point
