  7. Attempting to play the season would mean paying player salaries plus facility fees and all associated costs, the bulk of their expenses with no guarantee income can even cover the cost, going into hibernation and reducing expenses to the minimum is probably a cheaper and less risky alternative. Unfortunately a lot of the players currently making a living in the CFL will probably have to move on to other careers fairly quickly to make ends meet.

    Covid-19

There is a saying that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The PCs squandered the oil revenue for decades and now there is no easy way out of this economic mess that the provincial government has found itself in. The 1.5 billion dollars that will be given away will have to be borrowed and eventually paid for, but since hiking taxes in Alberta is political suicide, who is going to say that out loud. Kenney has done the equivalent of buying a (1.5 billion dollar) lottery ticket and is praying that winning will allow him to pay the mortgage. Gonna be tough times ahead in Alberta.

The way I understand it is, you have to go 14 days with ZERO income. So if you're a restaurant worker, for example, who was full time but is now 2 days per week, you lost a ton of income but dont qualify. If you go 14 days with no income and you do qualify but you get offered a shift or some gig for, say, $200, you'd have to decline it or you wouldnt qualify for the next benefit installment. So the usual Liberal bait & switch. JT gets to play the great man and then the bean counters put up road blocks. Just give it to everyone and be done.

But she didn't govern like that. She showed a willingness to put ideology aside to do the right thing. I have already found work in a different sector besides oil and gas, but you know what? The hatchet job Kenney is doing impacts us too since we do a lot of work with school boards and post secondary institutions. So yeah, you all chose to vote on ideological lines and now aren't happy you got the government you voted for. I lost a tremendous amount of respect for my fellow albertans this past election. We will spend years trying to get out of the mess Kenney leaves us, assuming people smarten up next time.

I believe that Trump and Co. are trying to buy up and/or seize as many of the needed medical supplies as possible and then use them to force compliance (AKA butt-kissing) among the governors and mayors- a form of blackmail, really. It is reprehensible, but the sort of thing that Trump's GOP has come to use as de rigeur. Trump has shown himself as absolutely willing to countenance the deaths of thousands if it meant increasing his wealth or chances of re-election. He ha.s openly refused to follow the law, and even still is involved in his business dealings

  14. We dont really know that. Lets not forget the Liberals tried to grab a bit of power using the pandemic as a cover and were rightly knocked about for it. We'll see what we think when our economy is toast and they raise taxes. They also came out with some new rules to get the emergency money and they're not as broad as they originally made it seem.

Like what happened in Ontario years ago, the NDP inherited a failing economy in Alberta. Worse yet, in Alberta, Notley and Co. dared to hint that there had to be a major shift in the provincial economy away from the oil industry and its seductive easy money. She proposed that healthcare was a priority over fattening the budgets of the petroleum industry, and that this would be an uncomfortable transition. But no one wanted to hear this- the fantasy was much more attractive. And then Kenney rose up and promised good times.

    Covid-19

The wife & I went out for a drive today. It was a beautiful day here in Ontario. The sunshine and fresh air was wonderful. There were people everywhere. At one point my wife turned to me and said "what quarantine"? Apparently the real number of people you'll infect if you are a carrier is indeed, 2, and not 7 as has been reported here. 2.2, to be exact, according to the WHO. Hard to find data on the flu amid all the covid coverage so we'll go with the WHO numbers of between 300,000 - 650,000 deaths world-wide. Trump, and I am sure many others, say they are surprised that flu is such a killer. Duh! This despite the fact that we know so much about it and have been living with it for so long, which is why we aren't scared of it. Deaths from covid-19 at around 46,000 world-wide. But we don't know much about it so, y'know, we're scared. The U.S. is projecting deaths could reach 240,000. Down considerably from the initial projection of 2,000,000. Because of these numbers, Trump says he has done "an amazing job". He's his biggest fan. I haven't found anyone projecting the expected total numbers of deaths world wide from covid-19. Guess we'll have to wait and see if it surpasses the flu's numbers. People in Ontario have been trying to call in to the Canada Service centres to resolves issues with their E.I. claims. Few, if any, are getting through. People have been calling all day, every day, for weeks now. E.I. would be nice to get if you could actually file the claim successfully. One of the questions asked when to try to file a claim online is "are you out of work due to the covid-19 virus?". If you say, "Yes", your claim is locked and you must call the Canada Service centre to speak to one of their agents. Good luck with that. Checked on my investments today. The value of my portfolio has shrunk 25% People are being told they don't have to pay their rent. Others are deferring their mortgage payments. Oddly, no such concessions from electric, gas, water, and insurance. Good times.

why not...you broadcast it perhaps as a pay per view thing...online and with cable...season ticket holders get it for free...the rest of the general public order it...still generates some revenue...advertising dollars can be earned..not an ideal or perfect scenario but easily doable...other leagues and NCAA were gonna consider it, so it's not like it's non-attainable by any stretch

U.S. Intelligence Concludes China’s Coronavirus Numbers Are Fake: Report U.S. intelligence has concluded that China has concealed the extent of their coronavirus outbreak, underreporting the number of cases and deaths caused by the virus. According to Bloomberg, the intelligence report—delivered to the White House last week—said China intentionally pushed out incomplete data and the total numbers coming from the country were fake. The outbreak began in China’s Hubei province late last year, and the country has reported about 82,000 cases and 3,300 deaths. The U.S., Italy, and Spain have all surpassed China’s known total number of cases, according to Johns Hopkins University’s tracker. The White House and the Chinese Embassy have not commented publicly on the matter. The coronavirus numbers of other nations—including Iran, Russia, Indonesia and North Korea—have also been seen as potentially undercounted. No surprise there. The available evidence suggests fatalities in the millions.

Alberta has a pretty diverse economy actually (well it did, but Kenney tried his best to go backwards) It's just that oil and gas was such a behemoth that it dwarfed everything else.

no real surprises at all. This is going to continue throughout the month of April at the very least. It's going to continue to go up and community transmission will certainly become a bigger part of it. You can only do so much to prevent that...there will always be stupid people going out there and transmitting it to others. Just really really hope that it doesn't get to the point where it's overwhelming the health system...

Trump play book was to blame previous administration and lie which he is still doing, and have his minions deflect, now he is going to actively try to rewrite history in terms of what people heard him say both live and what he tweeted, he needs to be held accountable

I'm Conservative & voted UCP but even Jason Kenney's announcement today of investing in Keystone XL got me gobsmacked. Like WTF is he doing in the middle of a pandemic investing tax dollars while cutting in every aspect of our daily lives??? On Saturday they cut 128 M from education & directed it into fighting Covid 19 just 3 days ago saying as a province we are broke. Then 3 days later, we spend $1.5 B on Keystone XL??? Where did that money come if were broke. Yep, put money into a pipeline but not into healthcare. Crazy. I'm pissed off. Albertans are governed by ideology & not good government.

I drove through an affluent area of Calgary about a week & a half ago. Big, big houses. In every driveway, people had 2 vehicles in the driveways. Lots had a third vehicle parked on the street. Some of them own recreational properties in BC, Montana or Arizona. People are maxxed out. Huge mortgages, multiple vehicle payments & credit card debts. If we do have a depression there will be a culling of the herd. I don't mean people dying. I'm talking about people being forced to live within their means financially. It will be difficult, it will be painful. It will be hard. My parents lived thru the Dirty 30's. Even when things were good in the 50's, 60's & 70's they were terrified of losing their money & our house. Five of us lived in an 800 sq ft home in Riverview in South Winnipeg. I had an older brother & sister. I didn't get my own room until my older brother got married when I was 13. They didn't spend on many luxuries because they didn't want to. We had one vacation as a family. Truthfully, just one. Even back then that was considered cheap. We drove to Vancouver when I was nine. We never stayed in a hotel. We stayed with family the whole way there & back. My folks would never had gone if they had to spend money on hotels. When I was a kid & I wanted to borrow a couple of dollars to go to the movies or get an ice cream cone at the BDI with my friends, I was always scolded about not appreciating the value of money. I was 8! I mean, it was living within your means to the point of paranoia but the Depression of the 1930's was a bad time for them & was very traumatic. My grandfather lost the family farm up in Moosehorn & my Dad talked about that a lot.

We're All Safe Now: Scamvangelist Declares COVID-19 “Finished” After Commanding God to Destroy It MARCH 29, 2020 Televangelist Kenneth Copeland, who said last week that God told him the coronavirus would “be over much sooner than you think” (but still wants you to tithe even if you’ve lost your job), offered up what I can only assume is a magic spell this morning in order to destroy COVID-19. And that’s why the pandemic is now over. (It’s not over.) Copeland screamed out at Satan to “get off this nation” and “crawl on your belly,” before declaring the crisis to be “over.” That will no doubt scare the virus into submission.
