Your doctors advice is crap and I'd look for a new one. The flu vaccine isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing AND we don't get flu shots for ourselves, we get them for the vulnerable in our society. Same reason we all have to stay home and avoid other people over covid. It's no wonder the hard core right wingers hate it so much. It's doing a selfless thing for the common good. Selfish people hate that.

100% - Palliser has done a pretty good job - I'd say Legault, Horgan and Palliser have made some good moves... Horgan is staying very low key but there's a lot of infrastructure ready if the curve spikes again

Yeah, there's no political partisanship on this thread. Even with an act of kindness there has to e an agenda? Okay then... What's Junior up to? Oh yeah, he's been self isolating for a month. Too busy raising the carbon tax while our economy is heading for a depression & giving himself a raise when millions of Canadians like me have lost or are losing their jobs. Our great ******* leader.

We do have something, it's called the flu shot, and if more people took that seriously (ie. enough to get herd immunity) the number of deaths from the seasonal flu would likely go down significantly.

Anti-vax posts have been removed - start an anti - vax thread if need be - but keep them out of the COVID 19 thread. Rants have also been removed. This has been a valuable thread that is needlessly evolving into anti-vax rhetoric. Do not private message me - my explanation is clear.

I really can’t see it as political either here in Canada, as opposed to the U.S. They have two viruses. The Covid-19 and the idiocy virus. It must be terribly frustrating to be stifled by political lines when you’re just trying to do the right thing.

The tax rate isn't a big driver of whether a business is located somewhere or isn't. So your choice is flat out incorrect.

Its not really political. Most leaders have leadership skills and are relatively intelligent (either smart themselves and/or smart enough to have smart people around them). They *should* be great leaders in a crises.

    Covid-19

An article from 2012... That's super relevant. And then at the bottom page, the author brings up the "poison" ingredients. It's like you don't even try. And the fact you continue to play your "bUt ThE fLu" card in this thread is an excellent display of abject ignorance. Yes, the flu is bad. It does its share of damage every single year. WTF does that have to do with COVID-19, though - a completely different and new virus? There's also no valid argument against getting the flu shot if you're healthy and able to get it. Obviously, there are exceptions who can't get it but that's the importance of herd immunity. The flu shot has proven to work and if more people bothered to get it, instead of listen to idiots who spread misinformation and lies fueled by ignorance and willingness to learn, there would likely be far fewer deaths from influenza every year. Outside of mandatory vaccination, what measures would you like to see against the various flu strains that circle the glove every year? The simple reality is people need to do their part, but many do not - and choose wilfully to do so. The difference with COVID-19, a novel* coronavirus, is there is no vaccine or other measures available to stop or lessen its lethality. That's why it's been so damaging since it spread globally: we don't have the means to fight it the same way we do other viruses. That's why the experts (doctors, epidemiologists, virologists, etc.) have told us to stay home, distance from others, and avoid travel to minimize that damage and not overwhelm medical infrastructure while slowing the spread. Again, though: people need to do their part and listen. * novel means new, as in it is a new strain we haven't seen before

I don't know if it is willful ignorance or simply that you're slow but until such time as you can actually read and understand the arguments being presented pipe down while the grownups are talking.

I'll say right here and now, I ignorantly have never got a flu shot since I was a kid. Never saw the need for it. I ignorantly didn't understand community transmission. Now I get it. I'll be getting one every year from here on out.

We should all no longer be surprised by Trump and his assortment of neo-nazis and idiots who are governed by nothing except self-interest. They uniformly have no compunction about outright lying or inciting racism and intolerance so long as it serves their purposes. As things deteriorate even further, their actions will become more and more extreme and if/when Trump loses the next election, it could well lead to violence on a large scale, and that will serve Trump's ends.

And in related news, the captain of USS Roosevelt, a US Navy ship, went public a couple of days ago because he had 100 COVID cases on his ship and was getting no help for his people. The Secretary of the the Navy (and Trump toady) leaped into action like a tiger and removed the captain. He left the ship today to a standing salute and applause from his entire complement. He left with his honour intact.

This is a false assumption. In Europe, there is no mania about lowering taxes in a race to the bottom. Taxes are higher for all, individuals and corporations, but the inhabitants (apart from Brits) report themselves as the happiest in the world. And corporations are smart enough to realize that a happy, healthy workforce and consumers are the key to long-term success.

    Covid-19

I think the part you're missing is that if the measures that have been taken (ie. social distancing, etc.), then the load on the health care system would be much higher than it already is, and the number of deaths would escalate much quicker than they have. If we are able to keep the number of deaths below that of the seasonal flu, then that would indicate that the measures taken have worked as intended.

  39. Not quite, only goes back to 1950... so there is no footage of their losses in 1923, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1934... Also fun fact: In 1936 and 1927, the Canadian Rugby Union refused to allow them to compete for the Grey Cup. Can we still elect to do that?

    Covid-19

Your logic is that we brush aside 29 flu deaths to 1 coronavirus death because some people get the flu shot? I can do without that logic. Do you realise how ridiculous what you just said is? We currently have a 29:1 death ratio, almost exactly the same 29:1 death ratio that we are seeing in Ontario and I expect across the country and maybe the world and for that we are going to: collapse the world economy the cost of which will be "at least $1 trillion and possibly $2 trillion world-wide" plunge the world into recession/depression cause world wide supply shortages cause world wide panic buying force the layoff of hundreds of millions of workers world wide cause extreme poverty world wide cause world wide stress, anxiety, depression, suicide cause world wide violence, rioting, theft, looting put troops in the streets world wide and our part in it will be to stand idly by and: (courtesy Health Canada) stay at home unless you have to go to work talk to your employer about working at home if possible avoid all non-essential trips in your community do not gather in groups limit contact with people at higher risk, such as older adults and those in poor health go outside to exercise but stay close to home if you leave your home, always keep a distance of at least 2 arms lengths (approximately 2 metres) from others, and household contacts (people you live with) do not need to distance from each other unless they are sick or have travelled in the last 14 days All this for a death rate that is 1/29th that of the flu. Yes I realise that may change as the flu season ends but talk about a fail at logic. Even if the coronavirus death toll soars to 30 times what it is now we will only just have reached that of the flu. A flu we were happy to live with before destroying the world we knew over coronavirus.

  44. I mean we all know that the greatest 11 Grey Cup games are 1935, 1939, 1941, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1984, 1988, 1990 and 2019 but #12 to me has to be 2009.

give it time. You have this really bad habit of looking for an entire seasons worth for the flu and the very start of a pandemic... AND you are being completely dishonest about it any because our country is taking unprecedented measures to slow the spread of this thing. If we all had your attitude towards it you'd damned sure see more than 1 death from Covid in Manitoba (a number which is sadly going to climb). And further to that, it's not an either or situation here! each death from Covid is a death that is added onto other deaths. I mean even Trump and his loyal band of idiots have given up this stupid "the flu is worse" argument because it doesn't hold any merit at all.
