There is simply not enough evidence to show that this approach would work. Why? Because healthy people appear to be the biggest carriers. Maybe this is not what you’re saying with all these posts you are making, but it is what I am hearing: “We can choose to live freer, riskier lives for ourselves. We cannot choose that others live shorter lives for our benefit. It takes a special kind of moral and spiritual blindness to fail to see the difference.”3 points

Picard gets a 6/10 for me. By which I mean I enjoyed it but I definitely didn't love it. Storyline was okay but drifts too far from the original feel of the utopian society and the relatively moral federation. I understand it's a different time now and the old TNG style wouldn't have worked but they strayed a little too far for me and also seemed to suffer from trying to cram too much content into too short of a time period which resulted in poor character development and interactions. Overall though I still welcome the return of Picard and the others from the TNG-Voyager era. Hoping we get a stronger plot and appearances from a few more fan favourites (glad they restrained from cramming ALL old characters into season one) if and when the second season drops.2 points

My original post talks about how Canada is doing a good job of flattening the curve... and Covid infection is much lower than previously believed. Somehow that was interpreted as wanting all old people to die ha... reminds me of the Joe Mack days here... Sweden never said that they were immune to Covid - opening a field hospital is pretty normal - Vancouver had one set up in a park and BC Place ready as another quarantine centre. I really think they are preparing to handle the 'spike' quickly rather than flatten the curve... 'Watching Sweden' means I am interested to see what happens there... not that I want to move to Sweden.2 points

It's not either-or. We find a compromise between "hide away for 2 years" and "just accept it so go about business as usual". Canada is doing well BECAUSE we have put stringent, extreme measures like stay-at-home orders in place. I'll come out when the medical experts say it is safe to do so, and not follow your guesstimate of "by May Covid will be done". Every person who wants to get back to normal now is simply going to prolong the effects of transmission by ignoring social distancing. And once a vaccine is in place then maybe it can be treated like another flu (and the only hard numbers I have heard are 12-18 months for it to be in place, Trump's grand "gut feeling" pronouncements notwithstanding). But until then, stay put is the best course of action.2 points -

You should lead a dramatic writing online course. Anyway - in the Yukon/BC we have seen this a month before everyone else and the curve is flattening - especially if you look at the death rate - which spiked early with 9 cases in the Lynn seniors home and has leveled. I also said GTA is going to be the problem area for Canada - this is a population density problem. As for tracking covid cases - we are just tracking test kits... so of course there will be a spike now that we are actively looking for it If you actually go through the data, Quebec added 40 covid deaths on one day that were cumulative - this skews the curve to make it look worse I was wondering when the 'denier' implication (covid/global warming) would show up... considering I make nature documentaries and guide polar bear tours - you can shove that... I'm not talking about stock market money - I'm talking about structural debt that will need to be repaid at some point - saving lives now will cost lives later. We're just passing the buck to Gen X. I'm assuming you don't recall how our health care and social programs were gutted in the 1990s repaying debt from the 1980s... We can revisit this in a week if you're still outraged that I think Canada is doing a good job.2 points

I loved the boneyard match but only in the context of the current situation. The empty arena just weirds me out so it was nice to see something a little different. Was texting jokes back and forth during the whole thing but I did like it. It was the most noteworthy part of the night for me. Goldberg... geez. Those matches gotta go.1 point -

This is a ridiculous response. 100% of Canadians will not get covid... Considering less than a month ago we were told it was 3-4% or as high as 9-10%... 1.8% is absolutely good news. For two weeks, the death rate in Italy has plateaued and now may be decreasing. R0 has decreased from 3 to 1 Canada 'should' be more prepared than Italy and has a much lower population density.1 point

This was first stated by Jared Kushner and this is probably an echo designed to take heat off Kushner. We need to keep in mind that there is no depth to which Trump and his cronies are willing to sink to and they are governing like an army of occupation. There is every indication that Trump wants to rule as a dictator and what he is doing now will pale in comparison to what he will do if re-relected.1 point

Ofcourse Covid will be over and gone by May. The flu was defeated and no longer exists. All viruses are defeated in three months. Don’t listen to health experts or government officials. What do they know. Listen to Crazy Ike on YouTube. He knows. Anyway. In Covid news.1 point -

Yeah, I'm aware of it too as I'm a school bus driver. March 14th was my last day. Schools will probably not reopen until September. Alberta has closed until September. So has BC. No way they reopen in Ontario or Quebec with their Covid 19 numbers so other provinces will probably follow suit to keep things the same across Canada. Ontario is optimistically looking at May 1st to reopen but that's not realistic knowing what we know now. If the pandemic recedes they may loosen restrictions in the warmer summer months but there is a concern of a second wave in the fall & into the winter.1 point -

I used to read GR in the early 2010s then I found too many factual inaccuracies and couldn't find anything other than cherry picked and manipulated data and opinion pieces masked as factual reporting and studies... It's a crank website. Trust me, I used to frequent that site. And yes, I have considered the links and info you have posted... weighed it against other sources and dismissed them because they are so out to lunch. Now if a website continues to churn out misinformation... it gains a reputation.... and at a certain point, it's safe to say that it is a crank website.1 point -

I think they really don't know what to say. If I had to guess, I would say they are saying July because that would be the end of the school year, which would considerably simplify the loosening of restrictions.1 point -

Nobody is ready for what is coming. Already there are stories in the newspapers and on TV questioning the White House estimates of 100,000 to 240,000 dead. The White House officials who devised those models won't provide the assumptions that went into them, and none of the models contained an endpoint for when the virus might run its course and the dying will stop. I just saw a public health expert from the University of Minnesota on MSNBC who dismissed the White House models out of hand and said we're looking at more than a million deaths from COVID-19 before the end of the year. More than a million.1 point -

Because the strong and healthy can still pass it on to vulnerable people, even if they are not symptomatic. We also don't know everything about this virus yet, as it is new, so it is incredibly dangerous to put the general population at risk by not taking precautions. It could have more detrimental effects on healthy people than we realize. Right now when we don't have a vaccine is all the more reason to keep our distance. A vaccine will be developed eventually, so in the meantime, let's not let it spread exponentially. Yes, the closures are terrible for the economy, but I would rather millions of people not die or have irreversible damage done to their bodies. You also keep saying that the flu is deadlier, but the coronavirus death toll has only spiked within the last two to three weeks. We don't know that it isn't going to be worse than the flu in a few months time. THIS is why we are being more cautious with coronavirus than with the flu.1 point -

Flattened because we're all for the most part taking extraordinary measures to keep it that way. The issue is always going to be that when things open up again it will spike. This is a very contagious virus. It's not necessarily the most deadly, but it spreads so easily you can overwhelm the system pretty easily.1 point -

No, there are no both sides. This is a science argument and science doesn't pick sides. The effectiveness of the flu shot is what it is. Vaccines are for herd immunity and protecting the weakest among us.1 point -

I have never claimed that coronavirus is no big deal so don't make stuff up. As to the flu shot being ineffective, there is lots of support for that argument. I think the intelligent thing to do is weigh both sides before you decide. Personally I don't care whether you get a flu shot or not. I wish you good health either way.1 point -

maybe the most interesting thing, to me, was that Americans who play CIS ball will now be considered NIs. As explained by Walters, if Brian Dobie recruits an American to U of M, and they play for 3 years and earn their degree, then they'll be declared NIs for the CFL. Pretty interesting...1 point

Covid will be over in Canada by May... And if your numbers are true - global leaders will be forced to decide between economy and elderly... they will choose the economy. The world is not staying closed for six months. One more month in Canada and maybe two in States - if that.0 points
