As a small business owner of two corporations, you are completely full of it in terms of CERB... its already altered and rolled out faster than any govt program I've ever heard of So if your GF is a legit small business - $50K salary - you understand... if she sells one sewing machine a month, then she can go on EI like the rest of the country... either way its a win Scheer would have been paralyzed. No doubt - we'd be hearing platitudes and talking points and kissing ass to Trump3 points -

Problem is the facts are being generated as we go, no one actually knows what the next few months hold in store, everyone is guessing. My fear is if they moderate restrictions too soon, we might have to go through this strict isolation stage all over again, which would have an even greater economic impact as people's reserve funds will be diminished even more so. Any business that relies on discretionary spending is likely to be devastated as consumers are already in financial lock-down and are not anxious to part with any reserves they have accumulated. Easter coming up this weekend is a critical test, it could throw a serious spanner into the works if people relax social distancing and insist on congregating en-masse. I see the East Kootenay region is trying to encourage Albertans to stay the **** away and take their mud-bogging activities elsewhere. Stay tuned.2 points -
There are opinions aplenty many of which were grounded in the relentless barrage of media-hype we've been subjected to for the past few weeks. Talk about blah, blah, blah. So what? I had opinions that went against that flow. Again, so what? Isn't that what discussion forums are for, discussing the facts and having opinions? I won't apologise for having an opinion if that's what you're getting at. A lot of what I've been opining is grounded in fact although admittedly it hasn't been pounded into our heads by the great media machine. COVID-19: Approximately 83,149 deaths reported worldwide; 12,911 deaths in the U.S., as of Apr. 8, 2020. Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year. Well, just an update on my EI claim from yesterday. It took me an hour & a half of redialing, getting thru, dropped calls after doing so or being told ton call back as they were unable to take my call I actually got into the queue. According to my phone I called back 126 times before getting through. After a 6 hour wait on hold & constantly fretting that my call would be dropped but wasn't I spoke to an actual person who took care of my mistake from yesterday. My claim has been reactivated & I can now do my EI reports. I'm not complaining. I'm just relieved it's all taken care of.2 points -

This is key. Trump doesn’t even realize that the pandemic has actually been helpful for him. The economic disaster won’t be. And when Biden really begins reminding Americans why a failure he is, it won’t be either. The Dems have to be unified. Everyone of them has to be out campaigning and funneling their supporters to Biden. Generating new voters for Biden. A wave.2 points -
Don't even get me started...... every time I see some kind of "meme" online talking about "shut off the media and watch how quickly things get better", I want to punch a baby. Everyone knows covering your ears, going "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!" means everything is better now...2 points

It always winds up at the top. There is plenty of wealth in the world to cover the cost of things going on right now. Problem is that it's being horded by greedy misers who don't want to share. They got more money than they or their kids or their kids kids could ever spend yet they'd trade it all for a little more.2 points -

You took exception to someone else expressing they had issues. I assume you’re telling the truth when you said you had a posit live experience just as I trust the negative experience too (cause I’ve heard it directly from people). Why should I hve to find an alternative to the CERB? I don’t even understand that. Whether Trudeau sucks or not he’s still my PM. He’s the one that mischaracterized CERB (and the numerous news stories over the last 24 hours pointing that out are proof). I don’t hate Trudeau. I don’t hate anyone. But facts are facts. He was disingenuous. CERB is not working for many of the people it was specifically stated to be for. Maybe you’re not aware of it because it doesn’t impact you or people close to you and that’s ok. I’m expressing the negative aspect of it which is true. Also I was very critical of Scheer. It’s not about criticism. It’s about you comparing something that hasn’t happened to something that is. It’s Irrelevant. I can rip JT based on what he is and what he’s doing. Scheer ain’t the PM. And thank goodness for that btw2 points -

Not at all, in fact I've only pointed out only the positive developments in Canada for the past few weeks. And we were never shutting down the country for more than 1-2 months max. I do think this board owes an apology to J5V for simply suggesting this very scenario... just a week too early. Two days ago, this board was adamant that we couldn't even consider that we'd need to think about the economy or that covid could end up as another flu - until someone in authority suggested otherwise ha... Just surprised no one accused Angus Reid of being a crazy conspiracy guy.1 point

I agree to an extent but there has to be more than a watered-down version of Trump to galvanize voters. Biden has all the charisma of a postage stamp and his voting record on progressive issues is much closer to Trump than, say, Elizabeth Warren's. Biden has been solidly supportive of Wall Street and big business, so the chances of him reversing the giveaways to these and hiking their taxes to something approaching rational levels is pretty low. Had the Democrats chosen Warren and Sanders, they would have been well positioned for the next ten years, but that moment has slipped away. They have opted for "safety" instead.1 point -

I predicted a mid May scenario for beginning to normalize. At times that seemed crazy. But there is a lot of talk of “August” for sports and I think mid May as a beginning to loosen period gives you a clear glide path towards July/August1 point -

Yeah this is a tough one... was looking at another chart about how the covid death rate for compromised health patients over 70 is about the same as it would be for the whole year - just condensed. Definitely doesn't diminish the issue but I would like to see healthy v. compromised death rates charted - would be much better to target resources. I think one of the first things we should have done is address the care home issue - they don't have space to isolate until people die and free up rooms... even pulling up ATCO trailers for temporary additional space probably reduces the death rate significantly... It spreads 10x faster in care homes than in the general public. Almost half of the deaths are linked to care homes - should we not have most of our resources trying to contain that?1 point -

Yeah I read somewhere that the way it's written was more in line, if the league folds, as in it's not coming back, then the players would be FA (obviously) and it's not specifically for situations like this where play is being stopped basically via government order. Again, 3rd down is looking for stories (just like other sports media) where there really isn't any. I don't blame them at all either...I just wish people would stop taking everything they say as the word of god.1 point -

It's extremely complicated unfortunately. I heard an example from a physician who said he had a patient who technically died of a heart attack. However, it was due to the Covid virus. The extra stress on the body, anxiety from slowly getting worse etc led to a heart attack. So while it's not Covid that killed him directly, it was still very much involved in his death...so where does he land in the stats? Should he be a covid death? I don't know....but it's not just as black and white as some politicians/media etc (on both sides) make it out to be.1 point -

Weird because I read a story that claimed the opposite. For eample, in New York, their spike in "dead at home" cases during the pandemic which werent being counted as COVID because they werent testing dead bodies. But I guess there are stories that can support any position, no matter how untrue.1 point -

More from the "misinformed" ... http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2020/april/06/end-the-shutdown-it-s-time-for-resurrection/ "On March 24th, the CDC issued an alert stating that doctors should classify “probable COVID-19” or “likely COVID-19” as Covid-19 deaths. Perhaps that explains the seeming drop-off of pneumonia deaths this year and the simultaneous spike in Covid-19 deaths as some researchers have reported. The BBC reported last week that, “At present in the US, any death of a Covid-19 patient, no matter what the physician believes to be the direct cause, is counted for public reporting as a Covid-19 death.”Does that sound like a scientifically sound way of determining how deadly Covid-19 really is?What is most dangerous is that although this virus will eventually disappear, the assault on our civil liberties is not likely to be reversed. From this point on, whenever local officials, county officials, state governors, or federal bureaucrats decide there is sufficient reason to suspend the Constitution they will not hesitate to do so. Anyone who challenges the suspension of the Constitution “for our own good” will be labeled “unpatriotic” and perhaps even reported to the authorities. We have already seen hotlines springing up across the country for Americans to report other Americans who dare venture outside to enjoy the sun and build up their vitamin D protection against the coronavirus"1 point -
