When you think of the logistics of providing a critical service to in excess of a million people spread over the second largest country in the world in two weeks, it is nothing less than staggering to do that from ground zero.

I read that many provinces, states and local communities have asked previous health care workers to come out of retirement to help with this grievous situation, and many are returning to help. And good on them. Much appreciated. In the US, have they thought about asking previous Presidents to return?

    Covid-19

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who tested positive for the coronavirus roughly two weeks ago, has been moved out of the intensive care unit at St. Thomas’ Hospital after receiving oxygen support. “The Prime Minister has been moved this evening from intensive care back to the ward, where he will receive close monitoring during the early phase of his recovery,” Downing Street said in a statement. “He is in extremely good spirits.” The prime minister was hospitalized on Sunday and was transferred to the intensive care unit the following day. Exactly. I wonder if these same people would care to hazard a guess at the number of cases and deaths, if proper measures hadn’t been undertaken. Any unknown ‘virus’ has to be looked at keenly. As Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, says “once you’ve seen one pandemic, you’ve seen...one pandemic.”

Yeah, I think there for sure will be another spike, just not as severe. They'll be dealing with COVID for years, most seriously until there is a vaccine but the goal was always to flatten the curve, as they say, and spread it out. The hoax people and the deniers want to look at the positive news and say "see, nothing to this" when in reality it demonstrates the massive efforts to contain the virus are working. Why would Copeland donate money to a virus he already cured with his breath?

right from the very beginning, officials said "If this works, it's going to look like it was an overreaction" and that's exactly what we should all be hoping for. If everyone does their part and just STAYS HOME, this will be over that much sooner and we can get back to normal.

I think you are looking at this entirely too much as a left vs. right issue. That's why I bring up the populism. Populism transcends left or right. It's founded in people's emotions and feelings. Trump told a lot of people things would be great with his brand of populism. Turns out he's pissing people off. But you get a guy saying "my brand of populism is good for you" it can turn people on. Now the catch is that the media will never give a guy like Bernie a fair shake cause they're all deep pockets people who don't want to pay taxes, so a "moderate" is going to be the guy they pump. You can not discount the impact that media has on forming people's early opinions. However once you get through the bullshit of the campaigns to even be the nominee (which in my opinion do much more harm than good) you'd just have one guy touting his ideas to the public. Honestly I think Bernie is the pefect kind of crazy old man to cut through Trumps bullshit. I don't see Biden as that guy. Bernie wasn't ever my favourite choice, but I think he was the right choice given how everything else played out and he is much needed by the United States right now. Biden is the status quo and will just lead to further republican shenanigans going forward.

Down voting was a big reason all Republicans wanted Bernie.....so they could tar all Democrat candidates, for House and Senate, with the ole crazed socialist label. Biden would work best as some sort of rational, calming daddy figurehead.....spark and fire (as well as the bare knuckles) will have to be provided by the VP pick

  15. I had heard in New York there was a spike in 'deaths at home'; normally 25 or so people died each day but recently this number has spiked ; Monday saw 280 deaths at home, none of which had been previously confirmed cases of the novel COVID virus. These deaths and others like them were not being included in the COVID death tally, and if included the tally would rise significantly https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/08/829506542/after-deaths-at-home-in-nyc-officials-plan-to-count-many-as-covid-19 I know, who can we trust? Covid-19

What was frustrating was when I was able to get through, a recorded voice would ask me for my SIN, my Access Code & then give me all the options I could choose. Then after choosing, I was told that there are too many people ahead of me so call back later. Then after another 20 or 30 calls I got back in & did it all over again only to be told to call back later. This went on with me calling back repeatedly. Then finally getting through & thinking how lucky am I??? I must have won the lottery. Word of advice, if you have to call EI just keep doing it even if you were told to call back later. Call back right away. Even if you have to do it 126 times. Eventually you'll get through.

Well, just an update on my EI claim from yesterday. It took me an hour & a half of redialing, getting thru, dropped calls after doing so or being told ton call back as they were unable to take my call I actually got into the queue. According to my phone I called back 126 times before getting through. After a 6 hour wait on hold & constantly fretting that my call would be dropped but wasn't I spoke to an actual person who took care of my mistake from yesterday. My claim has been reactivated & I can now do my EI reports. I'm not complaining. I'm just relieved it's all taken care of.

I don’t see any calm, informed, factual information coming from the information you provided. What you offer is YOUR opinion, based on information related to shape your mind..and you don’t, or won’t see it, never mind admit it...but you, yourself swallowed it.

it's not just hospitals that can get overwhelmed. it's supply chains in general if you get a bunch of extra people in an area that aren't normally there. We already see in large cities store shelves that are empty, don't need to put further strain on small communities.

Way to many "smart people" who seem to think that they're special and the rules don't have to apply to them because "they know better".

huh? Obama ran on change and hope. Mostly words. And the idea was change from W. Easy to get behind for most people. He didnt run on universal health care and cancelling all student debt and other far left ideas. Obama was a lot of sizzle and didnt need much steak. Obama sure wasnt Bernie. You're making the mistake of painting Biden as a same old same old. The Dems winning, regardless of who it is, is a BIG change. Heck, a normal republican beating Trump would be a big change. I like Bernie too, but he was not going to win. And guess what, he didnt get the nomination. He didnt have the support. Vocal minority doesnt translate to majority support.

I am listed as a resident of Thompson Manitoba and my Paint Lake residence is considered my primary residence. The BRHA already includes me and my family in their population planning and its even where my family doctor is. Before you accuse someone of loophole chasing make sure you know all the facts. My Winnipeg residence is just a winter get away from my home in Thompson. I spend all spring/summer/fall in Thompson except to drive out for Bomber games and about half the winter as well going back and forth except for the past 2 months I was in Winnipeg because I was minimizing travel due to Covid. Also, I do plan on leaving 2 weeks before business start up and self isolating when I get there. Further to this, Paint Lake home owners constitute a small population and are counted as full time residents by the BRHA. There is no seasonal cottage industry in Paint Lake/Thompson because of geography.

Wasn't his whole campaign based around hope and change? Trump won because he was the anti-establishment candidate. The people deep down, they want change. The establishment they want status quo. Hillary was that, Biden is that. It jsut doesn't resonate with a populace that is feeling every more disenfranchised.

That's my summer home not a cottage. I have lived there 4 months of the year for the past 20 years and have seasonal business interests nearby that require my attendance and management. Once I am there, I will be staying there and not going back and forth to Winnipeg unless the CFL starts up again with fan attendance. This is not a loophole. I am not a weekend warrior at a cottage.....but thanks for judging.

  33. I could not see Bernie winning against Trump. Not because he is crazy or that his ideas aren’t good for the country. The simple thing is that this is the US. Trump got elected for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones is the simple mindset of the USA that “we are #1” (the only thing Dems and Repubs could truly agree on) And are the best at everything, especially our democracy and economy, from which we derive our strength, even if the outside world knows it’s patently false. They are not #1 in education, health care, standard of living. They are #1 in Incarceration rates and population percentage believing in God, and #2 in per capita gun deaths. They don’t think like the rest of the world does. They have had capitalism drummed into their heads for so long that no matter how much sense saving the planet or universal health care or social safety nets make (and this pandemic is making a pretty good case for this stuff) I don’t think that matters much to a “me first, my personal rights supersede everything else” mentality that feels overwhelming at times in the states. A moderate voice that doesn’t scare people is what will win in the US for Democrats, not a radical shift to the left to counter the hard right shift. JMO.
