    Covid-19

Sweden is not successful. They are a country of 5 million with 10,000 cases & the mortality rate is nearly 9%. How is that successful? Their healthcare system will collapse like Italy. the government is playing with innocent lives. And Nicaragua? That is a country ripe with drug gangs & a generation ago was ruled by the Marxist & ruthless Sandinistas.

  3. What if (and I'm not taking sides because damn it I want a cabin) someone sick or asymptomatic BRINGS the virus to a small community and starts an outbreak that could have been avoided? Can Winnipeg support everyone West of Thunder Bay if the sparse under-equipped hospitals between here and there begin to back up? Everyone thinks the risk to themselves is so small - end of train of thought. Where is the concern for your neighbors? Not directed at any one specific person just cottagers lol

    Covid-19

Nicaragua and COVID-19 - Western media's best kept secret http://www.tortillaconsal.com/tortilla/node/9033 Nicaragua has not established, nor will it establish, any kind of quarantine. People who have symptoms of COVID-19 and also have some link to someone with the proven disease will be admitted to a health unit for study and follow-up. Those who also test positive for COVID-19 will be admitted to one of the centres for the treatment of patients with the disease. People who are admitted from countries at risk (as defined by WHO) will not be restricted from moving within the country, but will be alerted to the precautionary measures to be taken and asked for a contact number and address to follow up by phone and visits. "With similarities to Sweden's successful strategy to tackle the pandemic, Nicaragua bases its strategy on confidence in the population's ability to take preventive measures while avoiding restrictions on economic activity to the greatest extent possible."

I think I’ve finally figured out what happened to Donald Trump. He’s following the guidelines for ‘mental distancing’ instead of physical distancing. Its the only explanation.

Oh for sure. That’s not even in doubt. We all heard about this weeks ago. Long before trump pretended it was something no one knew. And when he did finally speak on it, it was “cases will be zero”. “It will disappear”. Etc

Especially since more and more there are reports that many in his administration knew early on what was coming and he either dismissed it or did not care to act, also since he knew and what was coming he politicized it by calling it a Democratic hoax

Well now. That's going to put him on Trump's "Enemies List". Trump will be in a surly mood today (more than usual).

  15. Ban people? No, I don't think so. Seems a bit extreme... I haven't advocated banning anyone, I've just asked people stop being so selfish or inconsiderate or dumb or whatever it is... Maybe not driving hours to neighboring communities because they have great deals on kitty litter and diapers. Is there no grocery store in Kenora large enough to support their community? (There is). Why do they have to come to Costco, considering the risk? It just doesn't seem wise to me. I think everyone should be doing everything they can do to self isolate, especially the things that cost you nothing, all you have to do is be considerate and at least think things through - is there a better way? I'm talking about reasonable things like getting gas when you're near E, not when you're passing by the station and the bays are empty. Not popping in to the grocery store a 7-11 for a snack or because you're bored and want to go for a walk, instead waiting a week til you can do a worthwhile shop. Worst are the people breaking self isolation because it's Spring and they're bored. Play some solitaire or dry hump a couch cushion, whatever it takes to be entertained, just do it at home.

I've read about her a few times on reddit (go figure) and apparently the lady has been really active in a bad way on social media since she has taken over. People have complained about the slides being in need of repair and causing injury and instead of providing a generic answer saying that they will do their best... she blames the kids and everyone else and shits on the people making a valid complaint.

Funny thing is that I know of some folks in Kenora who have come to Winnipeg to stock up (Costco run) so should they be banned from going back to the community since they have exposed themselves in the big city and could potentially bring back the disease?

    Covid-19

so...anyone want to bet that Fun Mountain is going to have new owners next year? (otherwise that nice little outdoor pool in Transcona is going to get plenty of business) because I'm hearing on twitter and facebook that the owner has made some rude comments about health care workers? or maybe she's just sour because there's no way in hell the place is going to open this year? I've only gone 7 times, and the best time I ever had there was in 2003 when the 7th and 8th graders at my school went for their annual trip and the weather was not nice out, most of the kids were hanging out in the hot tubs, I got to enjoy many a slide that day

  20. Yes the I pay taxes here argument will help when you're fifth in line for the only ventilator in 50 miles I ask again where is the concern for your neighbor? Everyone is sacrificing. Oh but my wasted tax dollars on my vacation property I gotta get what's mine, everything I'm owed and entitled to, even in a pandemic! Are your hypothetical wasted tax dollars more important than the health of the people in small communities?

According to columnist David Lurie, writing for the Daily Beast, Donald Trump’s purge of inspector generals in the government is an attempt to make sure that he is not be subjected to any embarrassing reports or investigations before the November election. As Lurie notes, the president has enlisted former bodyman John McEntee, who was previously booted from the White House by former Chief of Staff John Kelly, to purge critics and those considered not loyal to Trump from their posts, and that inspector generals are at the top of the list. “In the midst of a deadly pandemic, Donald Trump has expanded his war on oversight by attacking the governments’ inspectors general, compounding the damage already done by his unprecedented stonewalling of congressional oversight investigations,” Lurie wrote, before adding that Trump and McEntee are dead set on “targeting IGs as part of a broader effort to purge officials who aren’t sufficiently personally loyal to Trump.” “That effort might help Trump delay any formal reviews of his failed leadership during the pandemic, or of his administrations’ disbursement of trillions in coronavirus-related spending, until after the November election,” he continued before highlighting the firing of Michael Atkinson, the intelligence community inspector general for turning over to Congress the whistleblower report on Trump’s attempts to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden. Adding that Trump’s “attacks on the government’s IG infrastructure have been so audacious that they have raised questions among at least some GOP legislators,” Lurie reports, “Additionally, Trump has taken a uniquely recalcitrant approach to congressional investigations. In the Ukraine matter, Trump defied long-standing precedent by refusing to voluntarily comply with nearly all congressional requests for information, and instructed current and former government officials to do the same.”

As long as we're planning to restructure society it's as good a time as any to restructure the economy in order to prevent corporations from vacuuming up the majority of dollars spent within communities and transferring their profits to other jurisdictions to lessen their tax burden. This is one practice that has gone too far and been allowed to go on too long. The majority of dollars spent within a community should stay within that community and not be siphoned off into the pockets of a few, this would create more vibrant communities and benefit everyone in terms of wealth creation and increased job opportunities.

no real issue league wide as nowhere have I ever heard a guy get canned for not wanting to do certain things roster/sms wise via an injury list..looking further into it as well seems there were/are other issues of him lining his pockets somehow with Eskimo money that wasn't part of his contract As for cottage goers..I as well have a place in Northern Ontario on one of the chain of lakes by Blue Lake north of Vermilion Bay..It's a place that is liveable and fully functional 12 months a year, and I get mail there as well, so try and stop me from going back and forth for extended stints..

The Taiter makes mention of the fact that we don't have a first round pick or even a top 15'er because we lost our pick in the ZC deal. Well worth it I say to win a cup. I don't regret that one bit.
