https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/here-are-7-stunning-details-from-a-new-report-about-john-boltons-explosive-book/ The book confirms House testimony that Mr. Bolton was wary all along of the president’s actions with regard to Ukraine and that Mr. Trump explicitly linked the security aid to investigations involving Mr. Biden and Hillary Clinton. On Aug. 20, Mr. Bolton writes, Mr. Trump “said he wasn’t in favor of sending them anything until all the Russia-investigation materials related to Clinton and Biden had been turned over.” Mr. Bolton writes that he, Mr. Pompeo and Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper tried eight to 10 times to get Mr. Trump to release the aid. 2. Bolton says that similar incidents occurred with Turkey and China. “The pattern looked like obstruction of justice as a way of life, which we couldn’t accept,” Bolton wrote. He blames the Democrats for impeaching Trump on grounds that were far too narrow and solely focused on Ukraine, but this complaint is deeply ironic given Bolton’s refusal to testify. 3. Trump tried to get China to help him win re-election, the book claims. Bolton wrote that “the president overtly linked policy to his own political fortunes as he asked [Chinese President] Xi to buy a lot of American agricultural products to help him win farm states in this year’s election. Mr. Trump, he writes, was ‘pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win. He stressed the importance of farmers, and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome.'” 4. Trump reportedly did not know Britain is a nuclear power. This is a basic fact about world politics, and yet the president seems to have no clue what’s going on. 5. Trump reportedly asked if Finland is a part of Russia. The report doesn’t say who Trump asked. Hopefully, it wasn’t the Finns. Or the Russians. 6. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly dismissed Trump’s overtures to North Korea as useless. During Mr. Trump’s 2018 meeting with North Korea’s leader, according to the book, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slipped Mr. Bolton a note disparaging the president, saying, “He is so full of ****.” A month later, Mr. Bolton writes, Mr. Pompeo dismissed the president’s North Korea diplomacy, declaring that there was “zero probability of success.” 7. Bolton says he reported cases of Trump’s potential abuses of power to Attorney General Bill Barr. It’s not clear if anything ever came of these reports.4 points -

No, it's a completely fair comparison. Germany has an enormous population relative to their land mass. They have high numbers of immigrants and refugees - they are a cultural melting pot. The U.S. has the affluence to be more successful, but too much money is flowing to the top.2 points -

Shocking. Southern States screwing things up. Feel bad for the people who live in these States, get what’s going on, do what’s needed to the best of their ability but are clumped in with the knuckle dragging Neanderthals walking around blustering their liberty or death into megaphones cloaked in their confederate flags.2 points -
Those countries are not incredibly rich. Norway was smart enough to invest the oil revenues while keeping taxes relatively high. The USA leads the world in personal incomes, but that has not translated into happiness.2 points

I really don’t know about that. I consider what the rich boys are doing..mainly in MLB and their Player association, to be the clown show. They have tremendous assets, both sides, and they’re arguing about pro-rating. Small potatoes comparatively. Our League and our players are up against the wall big time..through no fault of their own. The players are afraid and I don’t blame them. The League is without answers, but really, who has answers? This is unprecedented. Elimimian seems to have a handle on it, but he’s got yappers behind him. Ambrosie has tight lips. He’s losing the room. They must get together..with the aim of next year, at 5he very least, as the end game. There’s a hell of a lot that has to work out for a season this year, but I sincerely believe they’re trying.1 point -

I doubt there's another league as reliant on gate revenues... They are probably waiting for some way to make Toronto work as a hub city... however Bombers did just call and say they are expecting a season starting in September1 point

Dr. Fauci delivers a disturbing revelation about the US’ pandemic infrastructure at the beginning of COVID-19 Back in February, the U.S. surgeon general sent out a tweet telling Americans to “STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!” This flies in the face of the CDC’s insistence, less than two months later that Americans should consider wearing, at the very least, cloth masks when interacting out in public. Top infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci sat down for an interview with The Street on Friday to explain what was going on in those early months, when government professionals, under the White House direction, began to give out what is clearly incorrect medical information about masks and their function to the general public. It turns out, our country’s lack of preparation for this pandemic, mixed in with our country’s completely incompetent and narcissistic leadership, meant that officials like Fauci felt compelled to tell half truths as damage control. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/dr-fauci-delivers-a-disturbing-revelation-about-the-us-pandemic-infrastructure-at-the-beginning-of-covid-19/1 point

That's fine, if you want to make excuses, but the USA could be better, they are choosing not to be. Squandered every advantage they had. Their **** policing is part of their overall poor policy choices. Population, poverty, area, these are all just excuses. America chose this path throughout the years.1 point

CBC News AlertToronto landlords for Blue Jays player Rowdy Tellez and coach Mark Budzinski say they’re owed thousands of dollars in rent. Both men say since the pandemic has suspended the MLB season and because they live in U.S. they shouldn't have to pay Toronto rent. 👁🗨 This doesn’t seem right to me.1 point

I'm glad you completely missed the point that higher poverty equals higher crime. Do you really think of all the crimes and police shootings involve the wealthier people in the States? You just have to look at America's affinity with the Wild West & Civil war movies to understand why they like guns so much. Unlike Canada, the gun is part of their history through their War of Independence & Civil War right up to the taming of the West & then in the 1930's with the gangsters in Chicago & New York. The gun is then glorified with 2 World Wars, the Korean, Viet Nam & Gulf Wars. To a lot of Americans the gun is part of Americana like picnics & apple pie.1 point -

Open carry is just a way to show people they are armed & you better not mess with them as they are warriors. The only problem is someday they'll meet someone also with a gun who is more of a warrior than them.... Idaho is an Open Carry State. I was in a Coeur D'Alene service station paying for gas when a young guy walked in with a handgun holstered to his side. He walked around the store making sure everyone saw him & he had this smirk on his face, probably singing the Bad Boy theme from Cops in his head. Meanwhile, I pay for gas, buy a bottle of wine & I'm asked for ID by the cashier as it is the law. I asked him why he needs to see my ID as I haven't seen 21 since 1976 & my grey hair & beard should have given away the fact I was at least in my 50's. He said he could be fined or go to jail if he doesn't ask. Those are some kind of ****** up government priorities as the dude with the gun could start shooting for no reason. Yet the State of Idaho is doing its Due Dilligence keeping underage drinkers from behind the wheel.1 point -

This isn't Loblaws. Fans aren't stupid & they'll figure it out soon enough. They know what is going on unlike the inner workings of a large private business. If Hufnagel's salary is $650,000 (low estimate) & he cuts it to $520,000 (20% cut) yet they still lay off two assistant coaches who make $50,000 each & he could have taken a further pay cut to get down to $420,000 to cover those 2 coaches salaries but refuses it still is money that counts towards the admin cap as well as operating expenses of the Stamps. he just gets more than anyone else. Myself, I'm tired of seeing these CFL team Presidents, Head Coaches & GMs give themselves the big money while everyone else suffers. If anything good comes from this damned pandemic it's the end of paying guys like Hervey, Hufnagel & Jim Popp these outrageous big bucks. Look how much the Riders paid Chris Jones. The money needs to be spread around fairly.1 point -

yup, a couple of those proud boys are well-known regional troublemakers. We'll see how Tiny's parole officer down in Portland reacts to this footage. Don't have time to dig it up now but there's footage on twitter of them going five-on-one against one guy well outside the chazop, they stole his phone and are playing keepaway with it. Totally fits their MO -- they swarm and look for vulnerable solos they can attack. They're human sewage, basically a gang of roided-up eighth graders.1 point

The Far Right Is Stirring Up Violence at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone On Monday, people associated with far-right groups like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer entered the CHAZ, beating at least one man on camera nearby. After a week of lusting for conflict in a six-block activist zone in Seattle, far-right figures went and made their own trouble. Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone—or CHAZ, although some newer stylings refer to it as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, or CHOP—is a small protest area that emerged last week, after police vacated a nearby precinct and city leaders agreed to leave the streets open for Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Almost immediately, figures on the right looked for evidence that the loosely organized protest area was a den of violence and criminality, with President Donald Trump tweeting threats to send in law enforcement and Fox News editing a picture of a gunman into otherwise-nonthreatening images from the area. Then, on Monday, people associated with far-right groups like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer entered the CHAZ, beating at least one man on camera nearby. https://www.thedailybeast.com/seattle-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone-visited-by-violent-proud-boys?ref=home1 point

A man tied to the far-right Boogaloo movement is accused of killing 2 officers amidst Black Lives Matter protests In Northern California, a man with alleged ties to the far-right Boogaloo movement is facing murder charges in connection with the shootings of two law enforcement officers: Damon Gutzwiller, a sergeant in the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office, and David Patrick Underwood, a 53-year-old federal security officer. On May 29, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Underwood was guarding the federal building in Oakland when a drive-by shooting occurred. Steven Carrillo, a U.S. Air Force sergeant, is accused of the shooting, and Robert Justus is alleged to be his accomplice. Gutzwiller was killed in a separate shootout in Ben Lomond, California. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/a-man-tied-to-the-far-right-boogaloo-movement-is-accused-of-killing-2-officers-amidst-black-lives-matter-protests/1 point

Trump encouraged China to build concentration camps, John Bolton says US Embassy Canberra / Public domain Despite the cowardice John Bolton displayed in refusing to testify during the impeachment proceedings, his forthcoming book appears to be a genuinely important contribution to the public understanding of President Donald Trump’s White House. As I noted in a list of details from a New York Times summary of his book’s biggest highlights, Bolton has alleged that Trump ran foreign policy along multiple avenues for his own personal benefit, rather than in the nation’s interest. But a new excerpt printed in the Wall Street Journal may reveal the most disturbing and ghastly piece of news from the book: Trump encouraged China’s construction of concentration camps for its Uighur minority. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/trump-encouraged-china-to-build-concentration-camps-john-bolton-says/ Holy Crap!!!!
