  1. He didn’t go on a homophobic rant. He literally said that he doesn’t support gay marriage. He didn’t say that he hates gay people or anything derogatory towards them. Not to mention that gay marriage is still relatively new and that many people grew up in religious households where that is not supported. Someone should not be lynched for having a different view than you or I. We should focus on educating people on why that thought is considered inappropriate. Instead, we resort to calling the person a bigot and demand they lose their job. People participating in cancel culture as the ones who are saying we need to be tolerant of everyone’s views. Yet at the same time, are also the first ones to call a person a piece of **** on social media and not engage in any sort of discussion with them. I just think that educating and reasoning is a better option than automatically declaring that the person is garbage.

Your assbleed over Trudeau in this thread is nothing short of comical. The CBC has been alive and well for decades and that hasn't changed since the Liberals won the election five years ago. Trudeau isn't charge of **** as far as CBC goes but if you truly believe such nonsense, you'd have to make the same ridiculous claim for Harper when he was PM. CBC doesn't change its stripes when power changes hands. As for your whining about bias, have a read: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cbc-news-canadian-broadcasting/ CBC may lean slightly left but its reporting accuracy is high and that's ultimately what determines the quality of a news outlet.

  3. I liked this thread idea as a fan of football and the CFL, and as an actual football discussion. Is it dead because there's some unwritten rule that we're not allowed to appreciate talented CFL players who are not Bombers? I'm not abiding by that rule. Here's four Western Conference players I loved watching, but hated when they were dominating our Bombers: Mervyn Fernandez - BC Lions - really dominant player. Also had a decent NFL career. Warren Moon - Edmonton - Best player I have ever seen play in the CFL. John Helton - Calgary - Also a former Bomber, but, killed us for 10 years as a Stampeder Bobby Jurasin - Saskatchewan - Always disruptive, always involved. Secretly wished he was a Bomber

  6. What's really ridiculous is how some here go on and on about how terrible Riderfans is because they engage in militant groupthink and ban people who don't fall all over the Riders and want to talk about other teams, yet display the same insecurity here by criticizing a topic that dares go outside the Bomber boundaries. But I digress: BC - Nick Hebeler was a pretty funny guy, Darren Flutie who I first thought was simply riding on his brother's coattails actually had quite a good career playing without Doug throwing to him, Lulay is as tough as they come, respected Pierce and Harris before they became Bombers Edmonton - Brian Kelly was clutch and just looked like he worked harder on every play than everyone else, maybe because he looked smaller on the field. Warren Moon gets the Gretzky treatment - hated him when he regularly torched the Bombers, have massive respect for how good he was now that he's gone. Calgary - Doug Flutie was a big CFL booster throughout his time here and never talked down the league even after he went back to the NFL. Seemed to genuinely appreciate the second chance he got up here. Saskatchewan - Ray Elgaard was frustrating in how he "cheated" off the line of scrimmage on seemingly every play and never got called for it, but I'll credit him for one great awards show speech he gave. The year Dunigan and Flutie were up for MOP and both presented an award earlier, they did the usual pre-award banter and Dunigan finished by saying "OK do you think we've done enough suckholing now, should we get on with giving the award?". So Elgaard later wins Outstanding Canadian and starts the usual list of thank you's, then says "I also want to thank Matt Dunigan for setting the bar and making it acceptable for me to use the word "suckhole" in my acceptance speech. And while we're on that topic, I want to acknowledge the Football Reporters of Canada who voted for me" Hamilton - Clements, DiPietro. Love Neil Lumsden as a colour guy, especially when he pairs up with Irving when the Bombers play the Cats in Hamilton. Toronto - Already picked Pinball, Carl Brazley was a good guy and always got into a friendly banter with opposing fans without it ever being mean spirited, O'Shea and Dan Ferrone always showed class in speaking about their opponents. Ottawa - JC Watts, Tony Gabriel Montreal - Calvillo also gets the Gretzky treatment, but super humble and classy and who can root against someone who battled cancer and had to watch his wife go through the same thing?

Who do you trust for news then? Your proof is an anecdotal local crime story and yet you want to defund a multi-platform organization that does important news reporting from around the world and offers Canadian stories, talent, and perspectives that you will not find anywhere else. I really don't think the bias lies with the CBC in your case.

I'll also add that the Liberals have changed the appointment process to the Board of Directors so that an independent body (Independent Advisory Committee) performs the recruitment, review and appointment process. Someone is forgetting that Harper appointed 9 Conservative donors to the 12 member board and we're still living with a chunk of them because they serve 5 year terms. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/news/2020/06/minister-guilbeault-announces-new-appointments-to-the-cbcradio-canada-board-of-directors.html https://thetyee.ca/News/2016/04/27/CBC-Board-Member-Resigns/?nnw-28999-1 (Board member resigns to seek Conservative Party Presidency).

Clearly we don't know what happened in the locker room and if the players followed game plans or not. Purely looking at him during games when he was down he looked completely lost. Not even angry or frustrated... just had that empty look in his eyes.

  25. And my Eastern conference CFL players: Anthony Calvillo - Montreal - At first I'd notice that a D-lineman was always a half second too late getting to him, thinking next time he'll get there. Well, there was rarely a next time. Just Calvillo carving up defenses with the quickest release and best passing accuracy I've ever seen in a CFL QB. Amazing player. Could have easily started in the NFL Tony Gabriel - Ottawa - You could drop him in today's game in his prime and he'd still dominate. Great hands, red zone monster. Grover Covington - Hamilton - One of those players that opposing O-lines would circle on the schedule at the beginning of the year as a possible game where they might sit out with an "injury". Absolute terror Terry Greer - Toronto - Pinball was the greatest Argo. But, Greer put up 2000 yards in 1983! Pretty much could not be covered in the CFL

  34. The cognitive dissonance is astounding. "According to the Poll Tracker's aggregation of all publicly available polls, the Liberals have the support of 40.3 per cent of decided voters, an increase of just over seven percentage points since the October vote. The Conservatives, under outgoing leader Andrew Scheer, trail with 28.4 per cent, a drop of six points."

In all honesty, it seems likely that states reopening too fast and the protests have been factors in the spike in cases in the US. Not blaming one more than the other, nor do I think either is the only factor.

  38. Gee, in hindsight I'm glad I didn't send that post I was thinking of where I said "Shouldn't you be shooing kids off your lawn right now?" in response to one of your anti-Ambrosie rants. That would have been awkward. In all seriousness, we all give and take some (hopefully mostly good-natured) shots as part of this board, but no one should ever be silenced for their opinion if it doesn't violate board rules, or made to feel personally debased for offering an insight. I too enjoy hearing about more than just the last 20 years of Bomber teams.

Busted: Trump engaged in 3-Week ‘flurry of communication’ with Putin this tear — and the White House hid some of the calls President Donald Trump engaged in an unprecedented – and previously unknown – “flurry of communication” with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a three-week period earlier this year, according to a sister-network of Voice of America. “On March 30, Russian leader Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by telephone, the first of five calls between the two over a period of three weeks, a flurry of communication unprecedented during Trump’s 3 1/2 years in office,” reports Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFERL). Only one of those five calls, according to research from NCRM, was shared with the press. None were posted to the White House website, a serious deviation from prior practice. “For many Russia watchers, the flurry of behind-the-scenes phone calls and other communications is a clear indication that something’s going on,” RFERL’s Mike Eckel adds. He notes, “the two countries’ diplomats have spoken at least three times over that same period, which also coincided with an unusual shipment of Russian coronavirus-related humanitarian aid to the United States.” NCRM reviewed titles of over 800 news briefings on the White House website, where the Press Office used to post details of all telephone calls between the President and foreign leaders, known as “readouts.” The White House appears to be hiding readouts from calls between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin. In fact, in a serious deviation, there are no readouts of any calls between President Trump and any foreign leader that took place this year, posted to the White House’s website for the public to access. https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/busted-trump-engaged-in-3-week-flurry-of-communication-with-putin-this-tear-and-the-white-house-hid-some-of-the-calls/

  48. Great list! Brian Kelly was one of those receivers that wasn't particularly fast or big, but always seemed open, and caught everything. Ray Elgaard - At the risk of being accused of supporting Rider pride, I loved/hated him as a player. Any coach in the league would have taken him, but you hated him as an opponent. Type of player that you could tell opposing DB's hated playing against. Tough, dirty, faster than he seemed, caught everything.
