    Covid-19

Public health officials advise the current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.59 per cent. Sixteen new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m. today. This brings the total number of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases in Manitoba to 558. The data shows there were: 11 new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region; and five new cases in the Southern Health - Santé Sud health region. While many of today's cases appear to be linked to known clusters in Brandon and the Southern Health - Santé Sud health region or are close contacts of a previously-announced case, preliminary information suggests that there may be a small number of cases of unknown acquisition in these areas. Case investigations are ongoing to determine possible COVID-19 exposures. When the investigations are completed, additional information will be provided as needed to inform people of any public health risks. The data also shows: six current hospitalizations, with three individuals in intensive care; 182 active cases and 352 individuals have recovered from COVID-19; and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at eight. The data also shows: six current hospitalizations, with three individuals in intensive care; 196 active cases and 354 individuals have recovered from COVID-19; and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at eight.

  3. It would suck for sure but the lottery is still the best system to ensure teams don't tank. I know the players don't tank but management can certainly do things to help give points away. None of those teams tried to tank this year but, through pure luck, may end up with the top pick. I think that shows that the lottery is working. Of course I don't want any of them to get the first pick. And, Steve Simmons is a piece of trash. That is all.

Stopping for gas? Whenever I do, I stick my hand in those cheap no name sandwich bags to handle the pumps, seeing as many people use them without safeguards...

    Covid-19

Live updates: Nearly 100,000 U.S. children test positive for coronavirus in two-week span August 10, 2020 at 10:14 a.m. CDT More than 97,000 U.S. children tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks of July, according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association. That number represents more than a quarter of the number of children diagnosed nationwide since March. The jump in cases comes as children are entering close quarters for the first time in months as some schools reopen their doors to students. Many districts are operating remotely to start the school year, with some others using a hybrid plan that has students come in a few days a week to prevent crowding. After one Georgia high school reopened with in-person instruction, viral photos showed hallways packed with maskless students. Now North Paulding High School is temporarily reverting to virtual instruction while the school is cleaned, after six students and three teachers tested positive. One student who took photos was briefly suspended and says she is facing threats from classmates. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/08/10/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us/?hpid=hp_hp-banner-main_coronavirrus-luf%3Aprime-time%2Fpromo

    Covid-19

Most gas stations have paper towel dispensers at the pumps (at least the Shell stations I use, anyway). Even before all this pandemic crap, I'd use a generous amount when handling the pumps, be it the grade select button or the nozzle. Now I make sure to use hand sanitizer when I'm done.

I know of Miller's reputation as a hard ass. Thing is, if he was that hard to work for I believe that Walters & O'Shea would have left years ago. Especially that 2014-16 era where the team was struggling. Yet no one quit on Miller.

To expand somewhat on what @MrFreakzilla posted, the top four teams in each conference (PHI, TBL, WSH, BOS in the East; STL, VGK, DAL, COL in the West) were all guaranteed a spot in the NHL playoffs. However, during the qualifying round between the 16 other teams, they played a three-game round robin amongst themselves within their respective conference to determine seeding for the opening round of the playoffs. https://www.nhl.com/stanley-cup-qualifiers

    US Politics

👁‍🗨 A somewhat long but hard hitting article on:The Unraveling of America In a dark season of pestilence, COVID has reduced to tatters the illusion of American exceptionalism. At the height of the crisis, with more than 2,000 dying each day, Americans found themselves members of a failed state, ruled by a dysfunctional and incompetent government largely responsible for death rates that added a tragic coda to America’s claim to supremacy in the world....Today, the base pay of those at the top is commonly 400 times that of their salaried staff, with many earning orders of magnitude more in stock options and perks. The elite one percent of Americans control $30 trillion of assets, while the bottom half have more debt than assets. The three richest Americans have more money than the poorest 160 million of their countrymen....The nation that defeated smallpox and polio, and led the world for generations in medical innovation and discovery, was reduced to a laughing stock as a buffoon of a president advocated the use of household disinfectants as a treatment for a disease that intellectually he could not begin to understand....The republic that defined the free flow of information as the life blood of democracy, today ranks 45th among nations when it comes to press freedom.... The American president lives to cultivate resentments, demonize his opponents, validate hatred. His main tool of governance is the lie; as of July 9th, 2020, the documented tally of his distortions and false statements numbered 20,055... For the moment, we have only the kleptocracy of Donald Trump. Between praising the Chinese for their treatment of the Uighurs, describing their internment and torture as “exactly the right thing to do,” and his dispensing of medical advice concerning the therapeutic use of chemical disinfectants, Trump blithely remarked, “One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” He had in mind, of course, the coronavirus, but, as others have said, he might just as well have been referring to the American dream...https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/covid-19-end-of-american-era-wade-davis-1038206/

I'm all for Wade Miller being our new Commissioner. He knows what teams need from the league from a financial & marketing perspective as a Team president whereas Randy Ambrosie really hasn't figured it out yet, it would seem. That & I believe he would bring a less hostile perspective to player relations & CBA negotiations. Dump Ambrosie & bring in Miller as long as Bombers replace him with someone who can fill his shoes as Bomber President. He may also hopefully have some ideas as to how to grow the game here in Canada. Especially Toronto & Vancouver.
