Good article, worth the read. Much of it is as expected, but it is worth it to see it from Vindman's perspective.

  7. 3 worst. Charles Roberts trade. It all ended soo fast, one of the hardest player transactions for me. 2007 East Final, kevin glenn breaks his arm. Other wise that team wins a grey cup. 1995 off season matt dunigan leaves the bombers after appearing in 2 out of 3 grey cups here for the memphis 1 and done expansion team and puts up his best statistical career. 3 best. milt scores 4 tds on 4 catches vs bc. Juran bolden pick 6 on danny mac Andrew harris runs it down the throat of the entire cfl media and wins moc and mop while not being an allstar.

    Grey Cup Fan Base

So I was at the Bomber store on Friday and got some more intel on the Fan Base that I don’t think was put out before. Not sure if it will change my opinion about putting my name on it, but food for thought. First of all, the money that goes to putting one’s name on the base goes directly back to the individual club team, not the league. 75% of the money goes to the team’s finances, and 25 % to the players directly. So Bomber fans buying a name props up the Bombers directly. Secondly, the club will also issue a certificate (as we have seen) to the name holder, and the club is also planning to have a plaque placed somewhere at IG Field (they haven’t decided where yet) recognizing those who have put their name on the base. The base will travel with the Cup wherever it goes (Purolator food drive days, at the Hall of Fame, etc.) so it be be seen whenever the Cup is seen. It essentially is now part of the Cup the way I see it. Third, only individual names go on the base, and you pay per name. No “the Smith family”, no corporate entities, and no slogans like “Bomber nation”, “Riders suck”, or “too many men” and things of that ilk. But you can buy a spot in memory of someone else, not sure if you can note their name as “in memory of” or if it is just their name. Finally, the concern I raised about fans “deserving” to buy their way on to the Cup base when players have to win to get their name on the Cup itself. When I discussed this (was talking to Carol Barrott, who I would always trust with any Bomber info) and specifically asked if the players would be bothered by this, she claimed that the players she has talked to love the idea. She said they recognize what the fans have done to prop up the league and keep it going throughout the years, so it is cool that those names “can now hold up the Cup, just like they have held up the CFL”. Now she did acknowledge that she is in sales so she knows she is doing a sales job, and the players are getting a cut of the profits, but hearing that did put my mind at ease a fair bit, and I can see the rationalization when it is explained that way. Anyway, people will make their own choice, and I can respect those who opt either way. Just thought some context might help given the original debate.

    2020 NHL Playoffs

24 teams vs. 31 teams isn't a huge increase. If the league can make 12 teams per bubble work as it has, a similar system with four bubbles* seems pretty manageable. Logistically, however, I'm not sure how that would work with interdivisional or cross-conference play. It'll ultimately come down to what the NHL and NHLPA decide but I'm quite certain both parties want to maximize their opportunities, leading me to believe it'll be as close to an 82-game season as possible for 2020-21. I obviously can't opine on the details but I'd expect the restrictions and rules to be similar, if not identical to the current ones in place. At this point, I'd say it's not about promoting the best hockey; it's about promoting the business of hockey as "normally" as possible. That's what the NHL is first and foremost: a multi-billion dollar business and that means any hockey is better than no hockey. * PAC hub in Vancouver, CEN hub in Edmonton, MET hub in Toronto, ATL hub in Montreal (if the NHL decides to keep it all in Canada based on what's going on with COVID-19)

I don't have a problem with them starting back up. They've done a good job of keeping their games on the air and used the bubble appropriately. But, I just don't care. I suppose if the Jets were in it, I would watch those games.

  15. Best: 1984, second game of the season and first home game. They beat the Argos by two points after a disappointing season opening lose to Calgary at a time when the Bombers rarely lost at home. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t that significant of a game, but it was the first Bomber game I ever attended. I was a teenager and my Dad had no interest in going to football or hockey games, so I never went any Bomber or Jets games. But an uncle was going with one of my cousins and had a spare ticket, so he took me. It was a big thrill for me to finally get to attend a live game. 1988 Grey Cup. After the 1987 season where the Bombers were dominant but lost the East final this was an unexpected win as Tom Clements had retired. But somehow, they managed to win it. During the 1983 season when Dieter Brock was traded to Hamilton for Tom Clements. Brock had already said that he wanted out and wasn’t playing. In the pre-internet days, I remember watching TV when a ‘breaking news’ story scrolled across the bottom of the screen. It said something like ‘Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback, Dieter Brock, has been traded to Hamilton for…’, and when I saw that I immediately was thinking ‘Tom Clements, Tom Clements’! Worst: 1994 Eastern Final loss to Baltimore. When it finally seemed like it would be third-time’s-the -charm with Dunigan and the Bombers. 2002 Western final loss to Edmonton. After the 2001 Grey Cup loss and then this one, it just seemed like it was destined not to happen with this version of the team, despite everything they had going for them. Not an on-field disappointment, but in the mid-90’s when they dropped the royal blue uniforms and traditional ‘W’ logo for the scheme they wore for the next 20 years. I hated those uniforms and that logo! Bonus positive memory is when they finally switched back a few years ago.

    Streveler’s vs 49’ers

It was basically the same QB sneak he has been running for the past 2 years. Could be huge for a team when in those a yard and less plays to have a guy who has run good 100 of those in the past two years. Not many QBs in NFL can say they do more than 10 or so a year.
