I guess it's the fact I don't feel that it's either one or the other- I can ***** about both problems, I don't feel that if I ***** about one, it nullifies my bitching about the other. Also, what happens in the USA... generally seeps into our great Country- in a much milder form I concede, but still seeps nonetheless. It's kind of like when people say "Why are you donating to African famine relief? You have hungry people in your own country. Why don't you take care of them instead?" 1- You can do both. 2- If you can't help both; maybe help out the people that don't have a safety net. Because one group's worst day is a whole lot worse than the other's. 3- Responsibility of privilege. If you are in a place of privilege, it is your responsibility to help those less fortunate.

Story out that the RedBlacks are negotiating a new contract for Marcel Desjardins. They have no money to pay scouts expenses or the players but they have money for greedy GMs that need to get paid. What a slap in the face to fans across the league who have to endure a damned shutdown with no plans (so far) for 2021. NO ONE. Absolutely NO ONE should get a new contract until the turkeys who run things decide there'll be a season & commit to it. Desjardins should wait like everyone else.

And it’s the ignorance, and the racism. It’s not just the states of course, but that’s where we see it and witness it the most. There should always be a blowback to this kind of behaviour and we are affected by this in many ways if you really think about it. I usually don’t post political stuff, but what’s happening in the US goes way beyond politics in what we perceive to be a “democracy”. We have to comment on this because simply saying harrumph, we’re ok, we don’t live there, is simply not good enough. The world is speaking out and the credibility of the US is sinking to an all-time low and his enablers should have to pay a price. What that is, I don’t know. But if we Canadians can flip some of the smarter Americans to vote out Trump, then it’s worth it. The stupid are beyond our reach.

  12. I would be shocked if we moved Patrik...His class of player doesn't come around too often.....We have to have cash in the kitty to make a decent offer to top flite defensemen without parting ways with star players...TSN mouth pieces are trying to jack up interest by creating a scenario that most likely doesn't exist regarding Laine ...Can't blame them though as the NHL is in 'deadsville' this year along with a few other professional leagues...Hopefully Chevy is on top of his game and we can make a decent deal to improve.........hopefully

It's the 10% rule. What happens in USA eventually filters over into Canada. I'm sure there were some people in France not too concerned about Germany either.

Could be right about the pay raise. Maybe not. Optics would probably be worse if a team didn't have a general manager. It still has to look like we're playing next year.

Yeah, I don't understand why people are losing their **** over this- it was expected. The Republicans have no morals, shame, or integrity, why were people disappointed that the lot of them comport themselves in a hypocritical, sanctimonious and generally people of low character manner, it's expected. You don't think trumpism isn't seeping into Canada? I mean, Jason Kenny is a poor man's trump and he is premier of wild rose country. He ran on a populist platform like trump did... and it worked. The expectation of norms in the USA also affects what is acceptable here in Canada. I mean, I find myself affected by it- I have given Trudeau far too many passes because my bar is set @ trump right now. "Trudeau-We scandal raises concerns over government granted contract"- I'm all... "Yeah sure, that doesn't look good, but is it really that bad... I mean trump installed a donor loyalist as Post Master General to break the USPS because he wanted to **** with mail in voting during a pandemic..." I should be a lot more concerned about the We scandal than I have been... What happens down south affects us a lot more than most think.

Judging by the country talent we see on TSN during Thursday night football I can see why Burns stopped when he did.

  19. The one thing I don’t get from the local TSN1290 media (and I sense the majority of the “Laine trade” talk is solely a media creation rather than them actually quoting sources) is that they keep saying the Jets have a 2-3 year window to win a Stanley Cup, which I think is nonsense. Their top 5 forwards aside from Laine (Wheeler, Scheifele, Connor, Ehlers) are locked in for 4 more years each minimum, as is Hellebuyck, and their top d-man Morissette is here for 7. And team windows always seem to be short-changed. How many times did we hear that the Caps window was closed before they won, or the Sharks before they made the final, or the Pens after the 2009 Cup win, or Boston after the 2013 Cup loss (you get the picture). Laine is still an RFA after next year’s contract is up, so we have him for 3 years minimum right now. Don’t move him unless we clearly win the trade from a “right now” perspective, otherwise, take the $11 million plus from Kulikov and Byfuglien that is off the books and get a serviceable centre and d-man.

  20. If they trade Laine it would have to be for a kings ransom. If they were to trade him for draft picks and a mediocre d-man everyone would have deja vu from Selanne departing and the fans would go crazy.

they will definitely survive....they've been through too much over the years for THIS to be the thing that kills 'em. It may not look exactly the same, but they'll exist in some form. With vaccines and mandatory masks at all events, I think it can happen. Football, due to being outdoors during the summer, will be an easier sell to the chief medical officers than hockey, which is indoors during the winter.

Thanks @Noellerfor posting this! I've had it in my mind to start a new thread about what the CFL needs to do to improve the league from the fan experience, to the on-field product, to the bottom line but have not really had the time to put together a thoughtful opening post with statistics and other support. If I have some time this weekend, I may do that.

https://www.tsn.ca/six-key-questions-the-cfl-must-answer-this-off-season-1.1529774?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter It’s been more than a month since the Canadian Football League pulled the plug on its season, with a deafening silence in its wake. While the National Football League and most of the top NCAA football schools are back on the gridiron, the CFL has put away its pads and helmets after a prolonged – and much debated – effort to play. So where does the CFL go from here? Here are six key questions that will require answers, some sooner than later, before we can begin to project what a 2021 season might look like. Some are more critical than others, but all of them matter. 1. How committed are the league and its nine teams to playing in 2021 under whatever circumstances are necessary? There’s been much debate and speculation about how many teams were truly committed to making the 2020 season happen. Sure all nine teams wanted to play. The differences were in what circumstances they were willing to support that decision. It’s essential that the league get all nine teams committed to playing, no matter where the decision-making tree may lead between now and next spring. That may require making sure the risks and losses are shared more equally around the table, so that some teams don't have substantially more to lose or gain by whatever decisions the league makes. Whether the league returns to the table with the government, can have some fans in the stands or needs to fall back on some version of a hub model, there should be no doubt there will be CFL football in 2021. 2. Will the league be able to put fans in the stands by next June? It's an impossible question to answer, given that no one knows in what state the virus will be next spring. Governments across Canada have taken a hard line when it comes to limits on gatherings – both indoors and outdoors – making no exceptions. Would that change by next spring without an effective vaccine or technology that would allow fans to be tested before they enter a stadium? There are college and NFL teams playing before partial crowds right now in the U.S., which will provide some evidence on how safe such a thing is. Without being allowed at least some fans in the stands in 2021, moving season tickets, which represent the primary revenue streams for teams during the off-season, is going to be a challenge. 3. Can the CFL and CFLPA reach agreement on changes to the final year of the collective agreement, which isn’t due to expire until May of 2022? The CFL has made it clear that the final year of its collective agreement with its players needs to be renegotiated to reflect the realities of the pandemic economy, with the league on a different kind of financial footing than it was when the deal was struck in 2019. The players are within their legal right to insist the owners must honour the CBA they negotiated in good faith two years ago. But with that stance, the owners could simply just opt not to play. All this comes on the heels of several months that demonstrated the lack of trust and occasional animosity many players feel towards the league’s leadership. It's time to move past that because this is no time to settle scores. The CFL and its players have to work together and align their interests in seeing the league through the current crisis, while understanding that doing so is going to mean both sides absorbing their share of pain. 4. What’s the salary cap going to be? It’s sure to be the most contentious issue with the players, coming off a year in which none of them got paid beyond last winter’s off-season bonuses. The CFL salary cap is slated to be $5.8 million per team in 2021, but there is little doubt the clubs will want that reduced. Coaches and front office staff of both teams and the league have taken 20 per cent haircuts across the board, so it stands the league will come at the players with a similar request. Twenty per cent of $5.8 million would mean a reduction of $1.16 million for a cap of $4.64 million per team. What would the players do if delivered a take-it-or-leave-it proposal of a 20 per cent reduction in salaries? How many current players might that force out of the game? Tough questions for the players – individually and collectively – to ponder. 5. How will teams manage the off-season football operations? The process of evaluating and signing players, both within the league and with regard to incoming players, is going to have a few curveballs this off-season. With no CFL or U-Sports football being played, the only recent film study will be among draft prospects at U.S. colleges. CFL free agency, which usually involves a flurry of signings in mid-February, could be even busier this year with so few players having negotiated extensions over the past six months. Will teams be willing to pay signing bonuses, after flushing roughly $1 million in signing bonuses a year ago without a season? Will contracts have to include clauses that make amounts subject to changes in the salary cap? It’s unclear whether teams would be able to stage free agent camps in the U.S. at some point And the annual CFL combine for incoming Canadians could be cancelled, just as it was at the start of the pandemic. Team building in the CFL will be a learning experience for everyone. 6. Is the league still committed to its embrace of international players? CFL staff spent the months before the pandemic travelling the globe to identify the best international players to fill 36 roster spots for the 2020 season – 18 on active rosters and 18 on practice rosters. A global combine scheduled for March was cancelled, and its players were left in limbo with everyone else. Globalizing the CFL’s player ranks has been a key component of commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s long-term strategy to grow the league’s business. But there are costs (estimated to be approaching $2 million for 2021) and logistics associated with this vision that add one more level of complexity during a time when the league is in survival mode. Expect this to be a discussion.

The data shows: three cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region; three cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region; three cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud; and 56 cases in the Winnipeg health region. The data also shows: 545 active cases and 1,265 individuals have recovered from COVID-19; there are 12 people in hospital and six people in intensive care; and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 19.
