I beg to differ. By Lena H. Sun May 10, 2018 at 3:32 p.m. CD The top White House official responsible for leading the U.S. response in the event of a deadly pandemic has left the administration, and the global health security team he oversaw has been disbanded under a reorganization by national security adviser John Bolton. The abrupt departure of Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer from the National Security Council means no senior administration official is now focused solely on global health security. Ziemer’s departure, along with the breakup of his team, comes at a time when many experts say the country is already underprepared for the increasing risks of a pandemic or bioterrorism attack. Ziemer’s last day was Tuesday, the same day a new Ebola outbreak was declared in Congo. He is not being replaced. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/05/10/top-white-house-official-in-charge-of-pandemic-response-exits-abruptly/8 points

I see your Cuomo and raise you a Desantis. One made a mistake at the beginning of the pandemic when little was known about the virus,; the other willfully disregards the science and endangers countless people by ignoring the pandemic and spits in the face of evidence based decision making. I know which of the two I would crown with the title of "biggest error in judgement on Covid response"7 points -

I fail to see how the two are exclusive? The article is saying that herd immunity is immoral. You are saying the WHO says to stop lockdowns as primary virus control. The two statements are not mutually exclusive. You can have other systems and protocols in place and not have to chase Herd Immunity.3 points -

NEW Last updated: October 13, 2020 Public health officials advise the 35th death due to COVID-19 have been reported, a male in his 70s from the rural east district in Southern Health. This was a previously announced case. The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 3.5 per cent and 124 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m. bringing the total number of cases in Manitoba to 2,779. Of the 124 news cases, 26 were identified Monday, 83 were identified Sunday, and 15 were identified Saturday due to a backlog of cases. Today’s data shows: 16 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region; 1 case in the Northern health region; three cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region; nine cases in the Southern Health - Santé Sud health region; and 95 cases in the Winnipeg health region. The data also shows: 1,248 active cases and 1,496 individuals have recovered from COVID-19; there are 28 people in hospital and five people in intensive care; and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 35. Laboratory testing numbers show 2,383 tests were completed Friday, 3311 were completed Saturday, 2049 were completed Sunday and 2188 were completed yesterday bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February to 213,669. Case investigations continue and if a public health risk is identified, the public will be notified. As I see it not all new case happen in 1 day, lets wait and see what happens in the coming weeks to see if mask wearing and earlier closings will have any effect.2 points -

This a solid thread discussing how a party that caters to the elites can win elections with a widening equality gap. It also touches on where the general strategy of the GOP is taking them and the importance of narrow messaging. It's totally worth a read.2 points -

It is unfortunate, but expected. If these trials didn't come up with any hiccups, I would be ver suspect in the safety of the vaccine- the large clinical trials are working as intended. A 1 in 2000 chance to develope a debilitating or fatal side effect would have devastating consequences of it slipped through the clinical trial process. Its a good thing that they are investigating these "mysterious illnesses".2 points -

A tale from rural MB: We do most of our shopping in Winkler. Here are some things from our last 2 trips. We had things to pick up at Wal-Mart and the maskless lady in front of us was stopped and given the choice of buying one for a buck or leaving . She left. In the entire store there was maybe 2 or 3 that were not masked.Probably %99 compliance. We went to the Super Store for groceries.Despite the big sign claiming they have made masks mandatory there was no one watching the front. I would estimate less than %50 of customers were wearing masks. Worse yet , maskless staff with carts blocking half the aisle restocking shelves. Canadian Tire ? Maybe % 5 of customers with masks and not a single solitary worker had one on . I have a deep suspicion that comes from management. I fully expect a massive outbreak in Southern Health.2 points -

So.. what category is the one that contains a spokesperson in the most powerful office in the free world that fails to condemn the "pure racists" and even equates them with antiracist protesters until the political fallout is untenable? Is that the same category that stokes racial tensions and lends legitimacy to these "pure racist"?2 points -

Interesting interview of a person who covers the Christian Right in the USA, and what they get from Trump. ” “What do you think is the ultimate goal of the Christian right leaders who are supporting Trump? POSNER: A very serious - more serious rollback of the separation of church and state than the Supreme Court has already undertaken, and kind of a flipping of the separation of church and state to elevate the free exercise clause over the separation clause - so to basically brought in what is perceived as religious freedom for Christians and to have government policy and the law reflect that. So if you think about the Hobby Lobby decision, where a Christian company was permitted to opt out of providing contraception coverage in its employer health plan, bolstering government support for Christian private schools, creating huge religious exemptions so that people would not have to comply with nondiscrimination laws protecting people based on sexual orientation and gender identity - basically, have a government run from the perspective of the Christian right, what they would call a biblical worldview.” https://www.npr.org/2020/07/08/888906337/unholy-examines-the-alliance-between-white-evangelicals-and-trump we have the same thing in Canada. People who want the laws of our country to be based on their religious beliefs. Hard no to that idea.2 points
